Why are the Superfriends Cartoons not ever discussed here. or documented in the Worlds Finest section? Superfriends is pretty good, minus the typical 70s/80s cheese. I realize they are seprate from the DCAU, but still.

I realize they are seprate from the DCAU, but still.Because The DC Animation Forum is the official forum for The World's Finest, and The World's Finest covers DC Animation from Batman: The Animated Series to today (with the occasional exception). That's basically it. Any discussion on Superfriends or DC Cartoon from before Batman: The Animated Series can be held at the Retro: Classic Cartoons Board (http://forums.toonzone.net/forumdisplay.php?f=116). Thank you for understanding.
And on that note, I will be moving this thread to the proper forum.

Superfriends was mostly a cartoon of the 70's right??? Cause I was a child of the 80's. So I saw just a little bit of Super Friends as a child, but not very much. I kind of look at them as being to the Justice League cartoon, what the original He-Man cartoon was to the 2002 He-Man cartoon. And to a lesser extent, what the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was to the 2003 TMNT cartoon.
Here's my question to the children of the 70's. As adults, are you actually able to sit and watch the dvds of this? I'll watch the original TMNT dvds, but I think a lot of it is the nostalgia getting me through all the episodes. I was pretty young when the original He-Man aired, so I don't quite have the nostalgia to get me through the He-Man episodes. Usually after I watch one episode of the original He-Man, it's all that I can tolerate for days, maybe even a couple weeks.

I was a child of the 80's, and I loved the Superfriends. However, I find Challenge and The Wendy & Marvin season the hardest ones to sit through.
Wendy & Marvin because they were so damn boring. Superman was dealing with eco-terrorists and mad scientists that could have easily been stopped in five seconds flat ordinarly. Pre-Crisis Supes could juggle planets, but in this season it took an entire hour and two meddling kids to get the job done? Ugh.
Challenge because of all the plotholes.
Take 'The Monolith of Evil', where the Legion of Doom decides to go deep into the Earth and get an 'evil' device. They realize they need Superman to fly past the monster and take it. Um... hello? You have BIZARRO on your team, why not send him to get the monolith? But, no, no, let's tip off the Superfriends to what we're doing. We've got this kryptonite ball and chain that we paid for, and by God, we're going to get our money's worth. And let's not even get into Green Lantern's ring created atomic laser...

It's not nostalgia or a lack thereof that makes it tough to sit through He-Man. It's just He-Man.

It's not just HB's Superfriends, but any discussion of Filmation's library of DC animated shows gets relegated here too -Their Superman, Batman, Aquaman, Shazam, Justice League, Titans etc.
Also the Ruby Spears Superman, Plastic Man, not to mention the Fleischer Superman films all tend to get moved here too. Where on the The DC Animation Forum they might garner more discussion (although mostly derisive:p).
Oh well.
Although they're fun to discuss, I don't think there's enough of them (or much of A contemporary interest in them) to garner their own board.
So, Retro: Classic is their home.
And although it would be cool if World's Finest had a similar comprehensive guide and pages dedicated to them - image galleries, episode guides, Alex Toth style guides and story boards, etc, all collected in one place, I don't think that's where their interests are.

IMPO, relegating Super Friends and the other pre-1992 DC toons to just the Retro forum is wrong. They can say it was meant for a different generation, sure, but the same people that grew up with the Super Friends also watched the DCAU family of shows.
The difference between then and now is a greater emphasis placed on characterization, continuity, and storytelling in the present era. You didn't have that in the 60's & 70's, though the Challenge of the Super Friends series represented the first attempt at establishing some semblance of continuity with the ongoing Legion of Doom arc. To go back and try to establish historical links from then to now would be painstakingly difficult, I submit, but without the fan support and appreciation of those earlier series, coupled with the Tim Burton Batmovies, you wouldn't have the DCAU, IMPO.

Any cartoons from before Batman: The Animated Series will not be covered by The World's Finest or the DC Animation Board. Myself nor any of my colleagues at The World's Finest have any interest to cover those shows. The World's Finest started out as a fan site/message board for Batman: The Animated Series, and it's going to remain dedicated to that program and the ones that came after it (with the rare exception). Things for the board could change in the future, but for now, the DC Animation Forum and The World's Finest will not be covering any cartoon from the pre-Batman: The Animated Series era. End of story.
