This episode was pretty interesting.
Seeing the two pokemon stranded at the beginning was a good way to start this episode. It leaves a lot of questions as to how they got there in the first place.
I'm not really sure why Piplup was wondering about the ship like that in the first place, but perhaps Piplup was just being adventurous. Team Rocket took the opportunity to snatch them up pretty quickly. I think their little act was pretty believable.
Luckily Ash caught them as they were about to leave, and followed them pretty quickly. That whilpool sure came out of nowhere and I'm a little curious as to what would have happened if he got caught in it too. Especially with him running out of breath and all.
So Pikachu and Piplup are stranded on some small island. I thought Pikachu's idea of sending a thunderbolt in the air would have worked. When you look in the past, that's usually how Ash ends up finding Pikachu. But too bad it didn't work this time around.
So we go back to Ash and Officer Jenny for the time being. Now Jenny started talking about the weird rocks that surround the island, and at first, I almost thought it would be somewhat connected with the Team Galactic senerios (you know, they been using some special meteoites too), but it turns out that wasn't the case.
However, the Deyxos thing was very unexpected. We've had a Deyxos episode in the past with Max, I remember. Do you think there could be any possibility that this is the same Deyxos? It could be becuase it looked like Deyxos was just traveling around and after getting weakened by the lightning it fainted and reverted back into an egg so it could recharge. So I think there is a possibility that this Deyxos could have been the same one as before.
I did, I just choose not remember it.
I think the cast chooses not to either. I don't think we've ever had a mention of a previous movie in the main series before. Maybe Mewtwo Returns, but that was a special.

Was Team Rocket really so stupid that they thought they could capture Deoxys, let alone fight it? They can't even successfully steal a small electric mouse, so what makes them think they can take on a Deoxys?

I doubt that it was the same Deoxys from that episode since it didn't have any problems with being alone or leaving. It also most likely wasn't one of the two Deoxys from the movie since it didn't have its friend or felt sad about being alone. It also wasn't an egg that Deoxys reverted back into. That was its center crystal. From the movie, we learned that Deoxys can regenerate its body and when it takes too much damage, it goes back into its crystal to gather enough energy to restore itself.
Though, I can understand why you thought it was an egg. I thought that it was too until the flashback came up.
I think the cast chooses not to either. I don't think we've ever had a mention of a previous movie in the main series before. Maybe Mewtwo Returns, but that was a special.
There have been a couple of times where a movie has been mentioned in the series. Ash said that he saw a Lugia in the Orange Island when he found that baby Lugia in Johto and I believe that the Deoxys episode in the Battle Frontier season mentioned the events of the Deoxys movie as well. I think that one reason why we don't have movie referenes that often is because not everyone who watches Pokemon watches the movies. That and not every situation involving a Pokemon from one of the movies requires a reference since that may not be so appropriate for the current situation.
As for the episode, I thought that it was pretty cute and interesting. It did start out a bit different with Pikachu and Piplup already stuck on the island. It was nice to see Dawn not caring Piplup in her arms for once. I really didn't understand why Piplup was running around the bottom of the ship like that. That felt like a really bad choice to make. I was surprised how easy it was for Team Rocket to get Pikachu and Piplup. I thought that Pikachu would have tried to use Thunderbolt once James grabbed it.
Of course, Ash and his friends found Team Rocket, but they were able to get away for a moment. That whirlpool did come out of nowhere and it was pretty strong since it carried Pikachu and Piplup far away. It was nice how Brock and Dawn made that SOS call for Ash. Even though Piplup has been annoying to me for awhile, even I thought that it was kind of cute when it was eating those apples. I thought that Pikachu had a nice idea with shooting off their attacks like that and it might have worked if Ash and the others weren't looking at Officer Jenny's map at the time. Of course, the fact that electricity draws in electricity also was a flaw in the plan.
So, the rocks had some eletromagnetic energy that destroys devices. That was kind of weird, but I just go with it. I thought that it was nice to see a Corphish again, even though it was also weird to see one that wasn't Ash's Corphish. As I mentioned earlier, I thought that they were making a nest, a weird nest, from the rocks for an egg, especially when I heard the heartbeat. Though, it being Deoxys makes a lot more sense in the long run. I liked how Pikachu and Piplup helped them out with getting more of those rocks. I was surprised that Buizel and Staravia found Pikachu and Piplup, but didn't let them know before heading back to Ash.
I didn't think that Team Rocket would make an appearance without just watching Pikachu and Piplup for awhile. I thought that the golden Magikarp arm was pretty cool. It was nice to see Ash and Dawn having Pikachu and Piplup again. I also liked seeing Deoxys completely restored and using the meterorites to strengthen its power. It still was kind of weird, but I just went with it. I thought that Brock would have mentioned something about Iron Island since we did learn about that in the last episode.
At least Deoxys was happy and well enough to go back on its own. And now Ash and his friends finally got to Chocovine Town, which still sounds like a ridiculous name to me, but we're close to the next Contest.
Overall, it was a nice little episode. Piplup annoyed me mostly at the beginning, but that was my main issue with the episode. It was nice to see some generation III Pokemon again too. I'm looking foreword to the next episode next week.

Well, I don't usually care if the original town names are kept in, but it's just that Chocovine Town sounds like such a weird name for town, even for a town in the Pokemon Universe.

This episode was forgettable, by the first half. There other times this was one and it was even done better.
And then the second half came. It was a bit too random, with Deoxys (randomly, of course) appearing/hatched from an egg (and then leave). I guess the producers knew it looked boring, so they added something out of the ordinary I guess.

The ep was indeed all over the place.
Its like Deoxys was added just to fill in time for the last 5 minutes of the episode. The random Corphish there bugged me as well. What's next....a random Bulbasaur will be in an episode?

I can understand that, but at least Hop Hop Hop Town sounds so ridiculous that it's actually funny. To me, Chocovine Town just sounds weird.

I agree that the episode did feel pretty random with the Pokemon that appeared in it, but I usually just try to go with it.
Also, Deoxys did not hatch out of an egg. That was the crystal that is in the center of its body. The movie confirmed that Deoxys can regenerate its body and if its damaged badly enough, it will go back into the crystal until it received enough energy to restore its whole body. I can understand why you would think it was an egg since it really looked like that to me too until we saw the flashback.

Oh yeah, I was really curious on how they got away with that. Pikachu was under water for quite a long time before coming up for air. Not not only that, but it said a few words and even attacked once. That was a fair amount of effort there and Pikachu was underwater so a long time. I'm glad that I wasn't the only one to notice this.

Haha that reminds me. I also wonder how those masks they wore in the earlier episodes work. You know the propeller thing with the red on its sides that they stuck in there mouths?

Oh yeah, the thing that allows you to breath underwater. Yeah, that would be such a cool invention. It beats carrying around a big ass oxygen tank.
