View Full Version : CN Too USA?
So, in the United Kingdom, they have a channel known as CN Too. As the name suggests, it's a second Cartoon Network, and airs older Cartoon Cartoons and whatnot. Would you want them to launch one in the United States?
Personally, I say yes. 24/7, and would mostly air shows that either never air, or rarely air on regular CN. It'd be live action free, and ideally would use the city theme.
Programming I'd give it: Dexter's Laboratory, Ed Edd n Eddy, Mike Lu and Og, Scooby Doo, Samurai Jack, Megas XLR, Johnny Bravo, My Gym Partners a Monkey, Camp Lazlo, Juniper Lee, Cow and Chicken, Foster's Home, Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, Code Lyoko, Time Squad, Dragonball, Total Drama Island, Squirrel Boy, Codename Kids Next Door, Freakazoid, Ozzy and Drix, Courage, Powerpuff Girls, Sheep in the Big City, Class of 3000, Storm Hawks, Whatever happened to Robot Jones?, Transformers Animated, The Cramp Twins, Teen Titans, and maybe a few other shows I forgot about.
Personally, I'd say let Boomerang stick around, but shows like Dexter and Powerpuff Girls would be removed from their schedule, and stuff like Looney Tunes would be added.

I'd like for CN to have an all animation channel to dump their leftovers on and CN Too is as good a name as any. I still think making Boomerang into CN Too would be a good choice but I'm all for a third channel if possible (it's not, so I'm not going to ask for it).
Anyway... the channel should air any and all CN original shows except for maybe the current batch (however short live they may be... an hey maybe they'd make more episodes of each if they built up a Nicktoons Network of sorts but I doubt it... they're much too cheap to bother).
I'd like to see their older action slate since I don't much care for the current one.
I'd like to see them pick up some new acquisitions that they're not confident enough to air on the main network.
It could be 24/7 and might as well be since Adult Swim isn't going to move from where it is. Perhaps a more action oriented late night block to make up for the utter lack of action on weekday Adult Swim? Sure would be nice.
And classics would be welcome especially if this is Boomerang with a new purpose but even without it being Boomerang. Especially Looney Tunes.
I'd like to see an afternoon action block. Doesn't need a name or a brand but seeing it be Miguzi or Toonami would be neat.
Of course it's not going to happen... because CN sucks like that.
Cartoon Network has Boomarang for the older cartoons, I am sure shows like Fosters and all that kind of stuff will end up there someday, PPG and Teen Titans did afterall.

True, but IMO Boomerang is better off currently for the true "classics", such as Jetsons and whatnot.

If they kept The Flinstones, The Jetsons, Looney Tunes, the Hannah-Barbara stuff and the pre-80's cartoons on Boomarang and then made a CN Too channel with more modern classics that are no longer aired then I would be all for it. 3 Networks wouldn't be out of the ordinary and CN Too would probably be a cannel only offer to premium cable package subscribers like Boomarang is, so I don't see why it couldn't be done.

I'd really love to see this happen. Since I only watch the network currently for chowder, tda, 6teen, pokemon and yugioh. And I watched it all the time when they aired most of the shows you listed. Boomerang does air some of the 90s cartoon network shows, as well as teen titans. However I think replacing that with looney tunes and older shows would be a better idea.
As much as I want to see this happen, it probably wont unfortunately.

I think that CN Too in the U.S. would be a good idea, However, I think having both CN Too and Boomerang together would be redundant.
I see no reason why 1990s Cartoon-Cartoons can't air on Boomerang, since they're all over 10 years old now and are therefore old enough to be considered "retro" programming. Honestly, I don't get why some people are so hung up on that.
The Cartoon-Cartoons don't need to have their own channel, and Turner doesn't need to create a 3rd channel just to air them and Looney Tunes; they can all just to go to Boomerang, or Boomerang could be relaunched as CN Too.
Honestly, a more economically feasible idea would be for Turner to create a new childrens' entertainment channel for CN Real so that CARTOON Network can remain intact.

I'm guessing that you must've really enjoyed the City bumps and Code Lyoko, since you make it a point to include them in every one of your fantasy schedules/suggestions. ;)
Anyways, I like this idea, but why would we need a whole other channel for it? I don't see why Boomerang US couldn't just become this channel.
Turner doesn't need 2 rewind channels. If they won't create a separate channel for the CNReal type shows, they sure aren't going to pay to create another retro channel when they already have one.
People need to let go of this mentality that Boom can only air shows from 60's to 80's; that rule got tossed out the window the second Boom began airing Justice League, The Batman, Teen Titans and some Cartoon-Cartoons.
Like Blackstar said in the post above, having 1 channel for "classic" reruns and another for "newer" reruns is redundant and pointless. All of Cartoon Network's 90's library shows are a decade old now, so there's no reason they can't air on Boomerang. It doesn't have to be 1 channel for Looney Tunes, Yogi Bear, The Tex Avery Show and Smurfs and another for Dexter's Lab, The Powerpuff Girls, Juniper Lee and Ed, Edd 'n' Eddy. In the right hands, there's enough room on a 24/7 schedule to accommodate them all.

I think that Boomerang could re-launch as "The Retro Network"...and simply air everything that aired on Cartoon Network from 1992-1999...that being literally everything... WPT/WAC/CC/SA/AA/PZ/T...and all the other shows they used to air.. with old bumpers and promos too.. just them being adjusted to say "Retro Network" instead of "Cartoon Network"..:p

CN Too or Cartoon Network Classic (CNC) would work as well.
-The above is more or less what I was thinking, except I say why cut things off at 1999? Why couldn't the channel just air everything that Cartoon Network doesn't run anymore? Shows like Atomic Betty, TMNT 2K3, Justice League/Unlimited and Megas XLR all debuted on Cartoon Network after 1999, so why should fans of those shows be deprived?

I always thought that having a "Cartoon Cartoon Channel" would be nice, but I think the most logical step would be to have Turner make a general family channel that can play CN Real shows and all those live-action movies they seem to love and leave CN to the toons.

If CN believes live action will fix their problems they're not going to put it on a channel less viewers get. Instead we'd end up having CN much as it is and Boomerang gets converted. CN's channel space would never be that all cartoons channel we'd like it to be if they think live action is worth showing. So ideas of making Boomerang into a general entertainment channel will only lead to both channels being general entertainment with the current mindset at CN.
CNToo wouldn't have to be all "retro" CN shows. Stuff like Juniper Lee, Robotboy, Transformers Animated, and TDI aren't retro..
Three networks wouldn't hurt. Nick has four.

They did have 4 but the problem is that Nick GAS is no longer on the air. Instead it is a former channel. I wonder why GAS is gone...
And a CN TOO would be awesome with all the cartoon cartoons and original shows like MegasXLR and Samuari Jack that use to play on the old network. And I remember hearing a rumor that Cartoon Network was to make a channel like CN TOO. And that rumor would probably be a lie.

Let's not confuse quantity with quality, m'friend. More doesn't always mean better, or even as good. Like Sketch already said, CN could satisfy it's fans just fine with only 2 channels. CN doesn't need 3 channels. They only need 2 really good ones; Cartoon Network for premiere shows and Boomerang (or CN Too) for reruns.

No, those shows aren't exactly "retro", but they have all completed their initial runs on CN, therefore re-airings of them would be reruns, and therefore would be suitable programming for Boomerang/CN Too. One 24/7 channel for older reruns and another 24/7 channel for newer ones would just be excess baggage, not to mention a waste of money and air space. 2 CN channels (one for premieres and another for reruns) would do just fine. I still don't understand why you feel that there should be a separation between the older canceled shows and the newer ones. Reruns are reruns.
And what Nick does is of no consequence to what CN should do. Turner isn't Viacom, simple as that.

Well CNToo could have premieres too just not likely of original stuff but I could see them use it to finish airing shows they didn't finish already as well as pick up some series that they don't trust will do well on the regular network somewhat but not entirely like how Nick uses Nicktoons Network to test programing.

IMO, a 3rd CN channel would be overload. Turner doesn't need a 3rd kids' channel, they need to better run and organize the 2 they have now.
I say merge CN and Boomerang into a single network, since people are always clamoring to see the classic cartoons and the Cartoon-Cartoons come back to Cartoon Network (blocks like Har Har Tharsdsays and You Are Here/Toonami Revisited/Boomeraction-whichever you prefer would air here), and rebrand Boomerang into the CNReal channel, sort of like Turner's equivalent to The N/TeeNick, and possibly move [adult swim] there to air late nights to early mornings, since many posters feel that [as] is in the way of their beloved classics airing on late-night. I agree with the 2 Channel idea. When we were younger, CN aired everything from Bugs Bunny to Johnny Bravo in an efficient schedule. Boomerang can be done the same way instead of bringing CN Too to USA.
CN is too cheap to launch another network, that's why it imports all those Canadian teen-drama shows.
It technically has 3.

Even though CN West is just an offset of 3 hours, it's still another Channel.

:^: It's only cheating if you're not paying for the packages which include both channels. As long as I'm paying for both CN East and West every month, I have no problem switching between them as I please. It helps when I miss something on CN East, or just plain want to watch said program again.
Or if you're on the west coast, you can watch the shows at their original times.. God, I hated only having CN East.
Anyway, That's mean Nick has five channels if the East and West feeds count as different channels.
It certainly wouldn't hurt to have three. They could remove Cartoon Cartoons and whatnot from Boomerang (Krypto the Superdog certainly should not be on there), and put them on CN Too, which would have more Cartoon Cartoons, as well as shows that they rarely air on normal CN, such as Ozzy and Drix, Code Lyoko (big shocker, eh? :p), Transformers Animated, Naruto, etc.
Boomerang would then get "new" shows, like Looney Tunes and maybe a few surprises, like Dragonball or Super Mario Bros. Super Show. CN Original would hopefully begin its recovery process in the meantime.
CN: Newer shows, premieres, etc.
Boomerang: Old shows.
CN Too: Not-as-old shows.

We've discussed this before, but I still say that 2 Cartoon Network rewind channels would be very redundant. The Cartoon-Cartoons don't need to have their own channel. They can just air on Boomerang along with the other retros (and rotating Boom's schedule would actually help the channel, since Boom shouldn't stay locked in 1 era forever) and CN can air the premieres and newest shows.
I'm no fan of Krypto the Superdog myself, but why shouldn't it be on Boomerang? It's been over since 2006, so it's counts as "past tense". And don't say something like "Becasue I hate it.", becasue no one is forcing you to watch it.
Also, I don't consider CN East and CN West to be separate channels from one another, because they both air the exact same programs. They just air them at different time zones.

So following that logic, I suppose Turner would have to create a 4th channel in 2019 for not-quite-as-old-for-CN Too, but still not-new-enough-for-CN shows. Sorry, but I just don't see the point of the above. Boomerang has long since ceased to be a strictly-for-baby boomers' channel, and its' already running shows from the 90's and beyond, so why should it stop now?

Co-signed.
2 CN rewind channels would be a waste of time, money and effort. There's no reason the Cartoon-Cartoons, Ozzy & Drix, Juniper Lee, Xiaolin Showdown, or even Krypto the Superdog can't--or shouldn't--air on Boomerang.
Let's face it: Boomerang is stagnating, it's been running a treadmill for years now. Adding newer defunct shows to the channel every year would be an effective way of keeping Boom's schedule lively and interesting. Make the channel ad-supported and you've got yourself a contender. Besides, if Boomerang would get the likes of Dragon Ball and The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!, then I don't see why they couldn't also get Ozzy & Drix and Code Lyoko. Nitpicking between years is just an impractical splitting of hairs to me.
I've said it before and I'll say it again: there's no reason for a split among CN's canceled shows. Old reruns, new reruns, doesn't matter. Reruns are reruns. One channel for new shows and another for reruns is all that's needed.
But I've said that before also.
Hey, Latin America has two CN rewind channels (Boomerang and Tooncast), so I don't see why the US can't have something like that.
Boomerang LA is hardly a rewind channel, actually. It's more of a "teen" channel now, like The N, and has shows such as Life with Derek.
Well, yeah. It's not really a rewind channel for CN alone, as it's mostly a family channel, but almost everything it airs is reruns.
It still has an animation portion, though.

The way I see it, if it's old enough to be remembered nostalgically and Turner has or is able to acquire the broadcasting rights to it, then it's fair game to air on Boomerang. Since time perpetually moves forward, it's silly to limit a reruns channel like Boom to a single era. Like Silverstar said earlier, reruns are reruns.
But that's just me.
Here's how I'd do the three channels:
CN: Premieres, newer shows, Adult Swim
CN Too: SOME Premieres, strictly animation, 24/7, Cartoon Cartoons, anime, not-as-old-but-technically-old shows from CN
Boomerang: Classic Cartoons. The CCs that are on there now and newer shows would be removed and sent to CN Too, and time would be given to shows such as Looney Tunes and Garfield.

Merge your CN Too and Boomerang into one channel, replace CN Too's premieres with "premier" (in the sense that they've never aired on a Turner-owned station before) acquisitions from companies like Sunbow, Filmation, Nelvana and Those Characters From Cleveland, establish a Toonami/Miguzi/Boomeraction/What-Have-You block for classic (or just canceled) action cartoons and add classic animated movies and shows like Toon Heads, O Canada and Sunday Pants and you'd have what I'd do.
