Hi guys,
Now that i have boomerang and I've been watching the old H&B cartoons again, it's gotten me in the mood to see some of the big movies and specials they produced over the years.
My favorite H&B special from my childhood is "Yogi's first x-mas". I love that special. I also love "I Yabba-Dabba-Do!","Jetsons: The Movie" and "The Jetsons meet the Flintstones".
I've recently seen Yogi and the Spruce Goose and though it was terrible. Fun to see all the characters together but absolutely terrible.
So my question to you all is what H&B movie/specials would you recommend (besides anything Scooby)? I heard there was a great anniversary special out there but i have no idea what it's called. Any ideas are appreciated. I'm looking for mostly Yogi and the gang or Flintstones and Jetsons!

"Hey There, It's Yogi Bear" was Yogi's first (and only, to date) theatrical film, and is out on DVD.
It's a rather cute film (with a LOT of songs).

My favorite is The Good, The Bad and Huckleberry Hound. It's especially good if you're a fan of Huck (which I am), who gets both the lead role and (finally) the girl. I hope someday it gets a DVD release.

My favorite is "Yogi & the Magical Flight of the Spruce Goose." Bat313, I'm sorry that you didn't like it. It's not a good movie, technically, but it has that Hanna-Barbera 80s charm to it that I love. I probably love it as much as I do having seen it so many times.
By far the worst is "Yogi & the Invasion of the Space Bears." That is an awful movie is the most bizarre premise. Can't say that much for "Yogi's Ark Lark" either. I like "Yogi's Gang," but "Ark Lark" was nothing but the same situation played ten times over.
"Hey There, It's Yogi Bear" is a beautiful looking film but it's not the greatest in the story department. However, the animation alone makes up for it.
And as for my current avatar, it's from my other favorite Yogi series, "Yogi's Treasure Hunt." Gotta love a premise that pits all the Hanna-Barbera superstars together for "Raiders of the Lost Ark" style adventures.

I'd like to see Yogi and his Superstar buddies get together for one more Treasure Hunt-type adventure.
After all, the 25th anniversary of the Funtastic World of Hanna-Barbera TV show is just around the corner, in 2010.

Hey thanks guys. Looks like some good movie picks in here. Sounds like i'll defenitly have to see "Hey There, It's Yogi Bear" since it got so many recomendations. Also, someone mentioned the top cat movie in another thread that i completely forgot about!
Does Boomerang regularly air movies any day of the week? When i caught the "Spruce Goose" it was a Sunday but i haven't seen a movie since! I'm actually kind of annoyed that there weekday and weekend schedule are almost, if not completely, (I haven't checked for certain) identical. (edit: just saw the July highlights thread and looks like i can at least catch "Yogi's Ark Lark! What time do these movies air? Any other good movie in that list that are airing in July?)
And Kolbar, i can definitely understand your love for the "Spruce Goose." I too love seeing Yogi and his gang together with their original voice actors. The plot and jokes just seemed so corny to me but i sat through the hole thing because i just love the H&B characters.
Does anyone remember the name of the movie where 3 young bear cubs are left on Yogi's door step and he escapes with them in a hot air balloon? That was another favorite of mine from my childhood!

That was Yogi's Great Escape (http:///www.imdb.com/title/tt0191663/) (1987).

Boomerang seems to be airing movies just about everyday in the morning now. From that list in the July thread, it seems like they're showing more of the specials than the movies. And I don't think Boomerang has ever shown "Banana Splits in Hocus Pocus Park" before either or the non-HB movie "Rover Dangerfield." From that list though, I'd recommend "Scooby-Doo and the Reluctant Werewolf" if you're into Scooby.
I always felt the Scooby movies (at least "Boo Brothers" and "Reluctant Werewolf") were the best of the Superstars 10. They seemed to conform to having one plot and were generally paced better than the others. Of of the biggest problems in movies like "Spruce Goose" is that the major plot of the film doesn't initiate until the last forty minutes after 50 minutes of other quasi-related adventure.

I'm also a Yogi Bear fan and I feel that his best movies/specials were Hey There It's Yogi Bear, Yogi's First Christmas, Yogi's Ark Lark, Yogi and the Magical Flight of the Spruce Goose and Yogi the Easter Bear.
But there are some movies/specials that weren't so good such as Yogi's Christmas Comedy Caper, Casper's First Christmas, and Yogi and the Invasion of the Space Bears. While they're not the worst, they really don't offer much.
Don't remember much of Yogi's Great Escape as I haven't seen it in quite sometime.

I get a kick out of all the Christmas specials, particularly Yogi's First Christmas. I also love Yogi's Ark Lark because I have fond memories of it as a child.

I don't know how I forgot "Yogi's First Christmas." That movie is hands down the best. It's so incredibly cheesy, but watching in on Christmas Eve has become a tradition for me over the last few years. The best part of watching that movie is pointing out all of the obvious animation errors (usually color switching sweaters from frame to frame).

I also have fond memories of Yogi's Ark Lark as well from my childhood. It is one special that I never get tired of seeing.
I think Hey There, It's Yogi Bear is also superb. I remember seeing it in the movie theater when it first came out in 1964 and all of the subsequent rereleases.
My favorite of the get togethers though, is The Good, The Bad and Huckleberry Hound. They got Huck right and the movie was very well done. I think it is the best of the Superstar 10 movies and I would give 2nd place to Top Cat and the Beverly Hills Cats.

Hey..:) I';m your age but I don't recall seeing it in theatres or not, but I DID see it NUMEROUS times on TV! I wonder why they don't rerelease it [Alvin and the Chipmunks at our SUMMER KDDIE MATINEE?? If I ran a theatre I would have ONLY "Hey There It's Yogy!" :D:D:D[Most recently in 1992 on Disney channell. Somebody over on John K.'s blog wasn't too fond of it, calling the humans Scooby Doo prototypes, but to me it's more kindly a transitional period. I didmn't know CHarlotte and the other Hanna-Barbera animated features were "Yogi and gang"! I saw some of "Good, Back and Huckleberry Hound" on its first day in 1988 and liked what I saw..

I kind of liked that...Top Cat especially didn't get a fair chance since 1961 [when his original canonical show first came out] of anything to headline after that till April 1988 [when TC the movie aired]..I actually DID like "Rocking with Judy Jetson" [so we can have another Jetson-centric topic like the Rosie one..] last time Janet Waldo did Judy before that 1989 theastrical with Tiffany as Judy...complex story but still fun to see Judy have her own voice* and own movie..in a way "The Flintstones meet the Jetsons" was kind of fun.
*Singing voice for Judy: B.J.Ward, [NOT YOU,. Tiffanyu LOL] at THAT time one of the hottest, in the popularity and looks factor, voice artists, supposedly she sang the original Bugs Bunny theme as a group singer.

My parents took me to it in 1964 at the Indian Theater in Roseburg, Oregon and then when I was eight years old it was re-released for a Saturday matinee at the same theater. It was the first time my brother and I went to the movies by ourselves. I remember singing the song waiting for my mom to show up. Then, it was re-released again in 1973 and I went to the Saturday matinee with a couple of friends at the Jerry Lewis Cinema in Roseburg. The Indian Theater had burned down and this was the replacement but in a different location. The last time I saw it in the theatre was in 1986 when it was rereleased by Clubhouse Pictures and Hanna-Barbera. It played at the Albany Cinemas in Albany, Oregon. I went and saw it three times on the big screen during that release.

Just thought of another i use to like. The sequel to "I yabba dabba do!" , "HollyRockaby Baby" where Pebbles and Bam Bam have, i think, twins!" The later Flinstone movies are definitely some of my favorites.
I don't think that Yogi's Christmas Caper was that bad. Along with the usual suspects, Snag, Huck, the Doggies and Quickdraw, there were cameos by several other HB characters including Jinksy and Flintstone. Nice to have Snooper and Blab and Hokey in this too. It should have been an hour which would have made it better. I think Treasure Hunt was a good show, and it's always a treat whenever Jinksy or Hokey make an appearance.
