Anyone remember this great show? This was one of my favorite shows while growing up with cartoonnetwork, this is the show that gave life to shows like Dexter and cow and chicken. And there was so much talent of famous and would later be famous in this. So Anyone remember this show?

Yes, I remember the World Premiere Toons, as well as it's half hour series formatted version, The What-A-Cartoon Show, which used for a time aired in reruns on Boomerang, but not anymore for some reason.

My favorite was “Captain Buzz Cheeply”. I always loved that one; I even voted for it several times back when they had that competition. I haven’t seen it in quite some time, so my memory of it isn’t the best, but it really stood out to me when I watched it back in the day.

Ralph Bakshi did two shorts for CN that I thought were fun. He even animated parts of them himself. As someone who has seen the Terrytoons stuff Ralph directed (and animated single-handedly), it's interesting how he evolved as a director and animator in 30 years.

I also remember liking Fat Cats, which was directed by Jon McClenahan at his Startoons studio.

That was Phish & Chip in 'Short Phuse', directed by none other than Butch Fairly OddParents/Danny Phantom Hartman. Later on a second Phish & Chip short was made, "Blammo the Clown".

The one I always remembered most was the short "Gramps" which I think was also having Butch Hartman's name within the credits somewhere. And one called "Podunk Possum"? I think which was just strange, yet hilarious.

I love Gramps. Yeah, it was co-created by Butch Hartman. I don't understand why Butch changed his style so much. I loved the style in Gramps, but now Butch's style is well...nothing more than flat doodles and pop culture references.

I think I've seen practically every single WAC! short at least once, with the exception of Swamp and Tad, which I've still yet to see (and probably never will). I loved how each and every short brought a new and fresh style. Later, when Seibert and his crew went to Nick and did Oh Yeah! Cartoons, some of the shorts were ok, but they weren't as good as WAC! in my opinion, and Random! Cartoons doesn't compare at all.

I love Gramps. Yeah, it was co-created by Butch Hartman. I don't understand why Butch changed his style so much. I loved the style in Gramps, but now Butch's style is well...nothing more than flat doodles and pop culture references.

Well, I did like "Sparkles & Gloom". A pity that has yet to be greenlit for a series.

And speaking of pop culture references, in Hillbilly Blue, there were a couple of appearances made by Colonel Sanders, the KFC guy. Butch may have or may have not created an idea about that, but I think I still see some comparison between his past and present work.

One of my favorite shorts from this was Larry and Steve. It's like Family Guy, but more family friendly, with jokes that both kids can laugh at, and some that even adults can pick up on, like the euthanasia line, I always crack up at that line.

I suppose I don't mind the pop culture references as much as I do the change in drawing style. In Butch's WAC! shorts, the characters were more drawn out, and overall had better designs. Fast forward to Fairly Oddparents, and everything is flat and has no dimension to it at all.

My favorite WAC! shorts are as follows:

-"Help!" by Bruno Bozzetto. AFAIK, this was the only foreign short, but who cares what country it came from, it's a riot. The cat has to go through all sorts of unnecessary and unrelated medical tests just to get treatment for pricking his finger. It's a sly satire on health care, when you think about it. The music and animation were both well-done, and I love the production design (such as the literal maze of the hospital).

-"Kitchen Kassanova" by John McIntyre. Loved how the girlfriend kept polishing things while the man was in the kitchen. The Squigglevision-esque animation gave this one a unique look, too.

-"Out and About" by Pat Ventura. Probably the funniest and certainly most zaniest (and that's saying something!) short by Pat Ventura, this Sledgehammer O'Possum short borrows its tone from Tex Avery and runs for miles. Love the wacky saloon-style piano music that plays throughout the short. There's also some creativity to many of the gags.

-"Tales of Worm Paranoia" by Eddie Fitzgerald. Very Ren & Stimpy-esque (thanks to its animation style and stock music), which of course I love. The opening, where the man who's late for work keeps inadvertedly stepping on the worm, is gold simply because the reasons for stomping him are so ridiculous. "Gotta get that exercise!" "Put out that forest fire!" :D

-"Strange Things" by Mike Wellins. I mainly like this one because it's the only CG WAC! short.

-"Babe, He Calls Me" and "Malcolm and Melvin" by Ralph Bakshi. Worth watching for the wacky animation alone, not to mention the bizarre nature to it all.

-"Larry and Steve" by Seth MacFarlane. Anytime someone calls Seth a hack, I point to this short. It's hilarious, and also proof that he could easily do kids' cartoons if he wanted to, and would do well to boot, as he wouldn't dumb it down for them.

-"The Chicken From Outer Space" by John R. Dilworth. Nails the creepy atmosphere. When I first saw this back then, I was pulled in by the visual nature of it.

-"No Smoking" by David Feiss. Good squash and stretch animation for this Cow & Chicken pilot.

-"Drip Dry Drips" by Jon McClenahan. Displays the same kind of visual charm that StarToons had on Tiny Toons and Animaniacs.

-"Lost Control" by Zac Moncrief. I can't explain why I like this one, I just do. It's visually flat but the short as a whole just seems to work.

from when it was still World Premiere Toons, then The What a Cartoon! Show, Cartoon Cartoons, The Cartoon Cartoon Show, Cartoon Cartoon Fridays...
its been so long, but i still enjoy watching the shorts... the opening kicked *****!

Hmm yeah. But I still kinda enjoy Butch's flat style. :( Danny Phantom at least seemed to have more shading and color on it, at least.

Yeah! I remember all of those except "Babe, He Calls Me" and "Malcolm and Melvin". I've never seen those. Drip Dry Drips was really funny!

Also I remember now "Buy One Get One Free" and "Pizza Boy in: No Tip!" Both of those were pretty crazy. XD

And "Mina and the Count" which was pretty cute.

I remember a lot of the shorts showed here were extremely frantic and full of gross humor, similar to Cow and Chicken or Ren and Stimpy. Particularly this one short that involved a man cooking dinner for his date, and ends up making a disgusting casserole that the girl somehow still love so much they proceed it eat it all and CHEW UP THE WHOLE FREAKING TABLE. Damn man.

That's Kitchen Kasanova, by John McIntyre. It's a pretty good one, I agree, but then again the majority of the WAC! shorts were good.

I miss the "adventurous" attitude that CN had at this time--- encouraging animators to create these "pilot" shorts, hoping that one of those shorts would spawn a series. And many shorts did become series---Dexter, Johnny Bravo, Cow & Chicken and PPG, for example. Their policies now are more strict than then. But even then, the rejection rate was high.

(hits head) I whip myself for not including "Buy One, Get One Free" in my favorite shorts list. It had the same visual style as Ren & Stimpy (no surprise, since some of its crew members worked on it as well), and the jazzy music fit extremely well.

Yeah, I forgot Buy One Get One Free. It's definitely one of my favorites. The colors were really nice, and I loved the jazz music most of all.

I was going to go through the trouble of naming my favorites but they're all my favorite. Except for Malcom and Melvin and the sequel to that. It's not funny IMO and seems kinda like an edited adult cartoon.
