View Full Version : Ideas for a new Fridays block
So, YAH is apparently gone.
What's your idea for a new Friday block?
Personally, I say fuse HHT and YAH into a longer Friday night block, maybe similar to Cartoon Cartoon Fridays.
6:00PM Chowder (NEW)
6:30PM Flapjack (NEW)
7:00PM Code Lyoko (NEW) [i just want them to air the final episodes of season 4]
7:30PM Total Drama Action (NEW)
8:00PM 6teen (NEW)
8:30PM Stoked (NEW)
9:00PM Star Wars: The Clone Wars (NEW/DECODED)
9:30PM Naruto (NEW) [since they apparently never finished it, i don't know, i don't watch this show)

I agree it should be similar to CCF, but nothing like Fried Dynamite. Ugh.
Not sure what I'd call it, but I'd like to see some CN characters hosting it, similar to CCF.
Here's what the schedule may look like.
7:00: Chowder (NEW)
7:30: Flapjack (NEW)
8:00: TDA (NEW)
8:30: Stoked (NEW)
9:00: 6Teen
9:30: Star Wars: Clone Wars (Decoded)

I prefer having comedy on Thursday and action on Friday so let's say they bring action back to Friday in Fall then this is what I want to see.
08:00 - Ben 10: Alien Force
08:30 - Batman: The Brave and the Bold
09:00 - Star Wars: The Clone Wars
09:30 - Naruto Shippudden
Saturdays remains on Saturday mornings for premieres.
It's simple, it would do well. They should do it.
Make this a new action block with a real name this time.

In response to the first 2 submitted schedules, I don't think action and comedy should occupy the same block. The 2 sensibilities simply don't mesh. I would either designate comedy for Thursday nights and keep action on Friday nights, or move the comedy block to Friday nights and create a new action block for Saturday nights.
I'll post a schedule when I come up with one.

I would like to see something similar to CCF or even Fridays. I don't really like how they premire their new comedy shows on Thursday nights.

Why not? Thursday has been working great for comedy, even better than Friday did in the past it would seem. So why fix what isn't broken? I'll admit I was quite use to having comedy on Friday when they moved it to Thursday but it wasn't a bad move by any means and if you don't think you can catch those shows then I'm sure they encore at some point on the schedule.
So... what's wrong with Thursday?

I agree with you guys making a block similar to CCF.
Except instead of the cartoons hosting in nowhere (I recall the old CCF
with the cartoons just hosting on a blank white screen with spirals going
everywhere :P) it could be like a talk-show with a stage and everything. I miss watching new cartoons on Friday. That's just the way it should be. It just doesn't feel right for comedy and action to be seperated. I mean, its like you might catch the new cartoon episodes on HHT, but there's new episodes of action cartoons showing on YAH that you reeeaaalllyyy wanna see but you somehow miss it. Its just better to be able to sit through one block and see ALL the premieres. Hopefully you guys understood that. :P
Because IMO the whole concept and whatnot of having it on Fridays is that it would be the end of the school week, and would have something else to look forward too: New episodes of your favorite TV shows. Having it on Thursdays kinda takes that away.
If they DID do something like CCF, It's almost inevitable they'd use Chris from TDI/A a few times.
It'd be awesome if Chef Hatchet hosted.

Oh, so that's what this is all about.;)
Myself, I like Har Har Tharsdays and don't think it needs to be changed. However, I'm all for the idea of a new action cartoon block airing on Friday nights. It could go something like this:
8:00pm - The Secret Saturdays
8:30pm - DC Comics Presents (new series)
9:00pm - Ben 10 Evolution
9:30pm - SymBoitic Titan
And hey, just for the heck of it, why not add an extra hour?
10:00pm - Megas XLR
10:30pm - One Piece
It could be called Friday Explosion, or something similar (I'm still playing round with names).

Now I'm ready. Comedy premieres on Thursdays and action premieres on Fridays were working for me, so I don't see the need to change that. Just spice up the schedules a bit and stick on an extra hour for each.
HAR HAR THARSDAYS
8.0-Chowder
8.5-The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack
9.0-Adventure Time
9.5-6Teen
10.0-Stoked
10.5-Total Drama Action (when that ends, Cartoonstitute replaces it)
FRIDAY NIGHT FURY
8.0-The Secret Saturdays
8.5-Batman: The Brave and the Bold/DC Comics Presents: Superman (these 2 series would alternate)
9.0-Star Wars: The Clone Wars
9.5-Ben 10 Evolution
10.0-SymBiotic Titan
10.5-Naruto Shippuden
*[adult swim] would start at 11 PM on these nights, BTW.

Cartoon Network Presents.......Friday Friction!
7:00 - The Secret Saturdays
7:30 - Batman The Brave and The Bold
8:00 - Star Wars The Clone Wars
8:30 - Ben 10 Alien Force
9:00 - Naruto Shippuden (Everyone seems to like it, dub of course)
9:30 - Maybe a fan selection, or one of the new action series coming out in the near future.
If the 9:30 airing was to be fan selected, they could have voting done on their web site or via phone and they could show up to date results all night untill the showing finally happens. :anime: Just a suggestion, but nothing like this will most likely happen. I would keep Thursday's the same as they are now I guess.

I wouldn't mind seeing a "Friday Variety" block. Say like this.
7.0 Chowder
7.5 Brain Rush
8.0 Scooby-Doo
8.5 Naruto
9.0 Star Wars: The Clone Wars
9.5 Total Drama Action
I'll go along with the Action Block on Fridays thing.
A lot of these I have no clue if they'd be new or not, so that's up to you
7:00PM Ben 10: Alien Force
7:30PM Batman: The Brave and the Bold
8:00PM Code Lyoko
8:30PM Secret Saturdays
9:00PM Naruto
9:30PM Star Wars: The Clone Wars
Sketch

You're going to put Code LYOKO into every fantasy schedule aren't you?
Come on man... I don't even do that with One Piece.
"End of the week, so it should be special" well... sure but action is more special to me any day and there's no reason to cram everything into a Friday night block when they'd have to start at around 6PM to do it. Better to use both Thursday and Friday. Again ratings indicate Thursday is doing well for comedy so making comedy Friday again seems rather pointless.
But I'll play devils advocate... make Friday comedy and Thursday action. I'm all for it. It's just clear to me that Saturday night is actually NOT alright for fighting. Not anymore.

A new Friday this fall? Let's go back to Toon's roots and have Comedy.
7:00 Chowder
7:30 Flapjack
8:00 Total Drama Action / Stoked
8:30 Adventure Time
9:00 6Teen
9:30 Cartoon Cartoon Hall of Fame
And how about Action Saturdays while we're at it.
7:00 Ben 10: Alien Force / Evolution
7:30 Batman: The Brave and the Bold
8:00 Star Wars: The Clone Wars / Decoded
8:30 Sym-Bionic Titan / Generator Rex
9:00 Naruto Shippuden
9:30 One Piece
10:00 Soul Eater
10:30 The Secret Saturdays

I just want them to finally air the final Season 4 episodes. I'd even settle for it getting the Fosters' treatment.
Further on my idea for a CCF-style Friday block:
Different hosts each week, though the hosts would sometimes return. Hosts would include Chris from TDI/A (that would be inevitable if they ever did a CCF-style Fridays, as I said before), Chowder, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Flapjack, Ron The Rent-A-Cop (come on, that'd be hilarious), Batman, etc.
I agree with the statement about NO Fried Dynamite style. That was horrifying.
If they HAD to do live action, I say try to get Tommy and Tara (somehow, they worked.), or another duo that isn't some obnoxious preteen kids.

Well a new action block that's sort of a fuse between YAH and Toonami would be cool. I'd like to see mixes of the YAH lineup with some anime. Although I don't see that happening anytime soon, I can still wish ;)

I really don't care if we get a new block as long as the 4 shows that were featured on YAH are still aired on the network, it looks like they will continue on saturday morning's so no harm no foul.
A new friday night line up would be nice, but they really need to put some nut's and bolts behind it and do something that is going to make cartoon fan's clamour to their network instead of Nicktoons/Nick or Disney XD on friday's.

That would be pretty cool. But for me it doesn't feel right for that to be on Fridays. It would be on Saturday nights like Toonami. And the CNReal shows would be on Wednesdays not on Saturdays.
And on Fridays? A Cartoon-Network-Original-Shows-like block which would only show original programming.
Thursdays stay the same.

Meh I've nothing better to do.
7:00 Ben 10 Alien Force/Evolutions
7:30 Secret Saturadays
8:00 Batman The Brave and The Bold/DC presents
8:30 Star Wars The Clone Wars
9:00 Sym-bionic Titan
9:30 Generator Rex
10:00 Naruto Shippuden
10:30 Soul Eater/Kenichi the Mightiest Deciple
I'll do another one, both HHT and a new YAH-style block.
HHT:
7:00PM Chowder [NEW]
7:30PM Flapjack [NEW]
8:00PM Wayside [NEW] (they don't have the rights to this show, but it wouldn't be surprising for them to air this show.. hey, 6teen was on Nick before too)
8:30PM Stoked [NEW]
9:00PM Total Drama Action [NEW]
9:30PM 6teen [NEW]
If CN gets the 10:00PM hour slot back, then have it start at 8PM still.
YAH-style block.. Possible names are Rise Rise Frisedays (yeah, bad name), or just YAH.
7:00PM Secret Saturdays [NEW]
7:30PM Code Lyoko [NEW] (yeah, i know, you saw that coming)
8:00PM Batman: The Brave and the Bold [NEW]
8:30PM Naruto [NEW]
9:00PM Ben 10: Alien Force [NEW] (right? if not, One Piece or some other action show premiere)
9:30PM Star Wars: The Clone Wars [NEW/DECODED]
Same as my HHT- If they get the 10PM slot again, YAH/RRF would start at 8PM.

Hmm. Friday ...
7: Batman The Brave and The Bold
7.5: The Secret Saturdays
8: Star Wars: The Clone Wars (decoded)
8.5: Ben 10 Alien Force/Evolution (whatever it's called)
9-10: Random collection of the old HB Superhero shorts (Space Ghost, Herculoids, and others ad nauseum). Something old school.
Since none of the cartoons CN presently airs as comedies in primetime strike me as funny, I have no Thursday comedy block entry.

I suppose i'll post an actual schedule as well
7:00- Flapjack/Chowder (whichever one continues on I guess)
7:30- Adventure Time
8:00- Batman: Brave and the Bold
8:30- Star Wars: the Clone Wars
9:00- Naruto Shippuden
9:30- Soul Eater/One Piece
So the first hour would be a comedy hour, followed by the main shows YAH aired (imo), and an hour of shonen anime.
And as for TSS and Alien Force, it would seem fine to add them to Saturday mornings.

:^: That's too much of a mish-mash to me.
I don't mean to harp on about it, but I still don't think that action and comedy shows should occupy the same block; the genres tend to attract different audiences and sponsors, as they are separate sensibilities. (There are of course some viewers who will willingly watch both, but that's not how network execs and advertisers tend to think.)
I also don't think anime needs a separate designated hour. Anime as a whole isn't just action: it encompasses several genres, so Japanimated action still qualifies as action in my book. If you're going to designate an hour for Japanese action cartoons, you might as well do one for Canadian action cartoons and one for French action cartoons, etc. Action is action, regardless of what country it comes from.
I'd put The Secret Saturdays and Ben 10 Alien Force/Evolutions on this Friday block and move Chowder/Flapjack and Adventure Time to a separate comedy block, but that's just me.

Hmm . . . I'm going to do a mild reshuffle of the current lineup and add a pair of shows. Please assume shows are new unless otherwise noted.
7:00-Batman: The Brave And The Bold
7:30-The Secret Saturdays
8:00-Naruto Shippudden
8:30-Ben 10 Alien Force/Generations
9:00-Star Wars The Clone Wars
9:30-Soul Eater
As for HHT . . .
7:00-6teen (hit early and hit hard)
7:30-Adventure Time
8:00-Chowder
8:30-Flapjack
9:00-Total Drama Action
9:30-Johnny Test (it held down the last slot before and did well).
Somewhat New HHT and YAH ideas:
HHT:
7:00PM Johnny Test [NEW]
7:30PM Chowder [NEW]
8:00PM Flapjack [NEW]
8:30PM Stoked [NEW]
9:00PM Total Drama Action [NEW]
9:30PM 6teen [NEW]
YAH:
7:00PM Secret Saturdays [NEW]
7:30PM Batman: The Brave and the Bold [NEW]
8:00PM Code Lyoko [NEW]
8:30PM Tara Duncan [NEW] (another acquisition idea of mine)
9:00PM Naruto [NEW]
9:30PM Star Wars: The Clone Wars [NEW]
If they get the 10PM slot back, I say instead of starting them at 8PM, HHT would give the slot to Cartoon Carton Top 5, and YAH would finish off with fairly-older shows as well: Megas XLR and Samurai Jack. That'd be awesome.

I'm not a big fan of comedy on Thursdays, so I'm moving it back.
Friday:
7:00 Ed Edd n Eddy
7:30 The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy
8:00 Stoked
8:30 6teen
9:00 Total Drama Action
9:30 The Life and Times of Juniper Lee (but, since that's not going to happen...) League of Super Evil
Saturday:
7:00 Atomic Betty
7:30 The Secret Saturdays
8:00 Star Wars: The Clone Wars
8:30 Batman
9:00 Encore of TSS or Naruto
9:30 Encore of Star Wars: The Clone Wars or One Piece
New idea, for if Cn got the 10PM slot back. All should be new.
7:00PM Ben 10: Evolutions (or Alien Force, dunno)
7:30PM Batman: The Brave and the Bold
8:00PM Tara Duncan
8:30PM Code Lyoko
9:00PM Powerpuff Girls Z
9:30PM Naruto
10:00PM One Piece
10:30PM Star Wars: The Clone Wars
i should try this......... just for the heck of it
HHT:
7:00 - Chowder
7:30 - Flapjack
8:00 - Adventure Time
8:30 - 6Teen
9:00 - Stroked
9:30 - Total Drama Action
replace one of those with Cartoon Institution later as well
YAH:
7:00 - Ben 10 Alien Force then Evolution *is that what its going to be called?*
7:30 - The Secret Saturdays
8:00 - Batman: Bold and Brave
8:30 - Naruto
9:00 - Star Wars
9:30 - Soul Eater

Most previous schedules have tackled what I'd like to see. Although I'm interested in where PPGZ is going to land on Cartoon Network if at all.
An idea for if they revived CCF:
Hosts would include Chris Maclean, Chowder, Jude, Flapjack and that other thing (I don't watch the show, so I don't know who he is), Chef Hatchet, etc.
Schedule
8:00PM Chowder (NEW) [Replaced by Ben 10 or a new show when Chowder ends]

9:00PM Flapjack (NEW)
9:30PM Stoked (NEW)

Eh, that schedule's a tad too random for my tastes. Sure, those shows are all Cartoon Network originals, but Ben 10, The Secret Saturdays and Star Wars: Clone Wars are all action shows. Action and Comedy should each have their own separate blocks, not occupying the same block, IMHO.
This is how I would it:
Har Har Tharsdays
7:30pm: Johnny Test-Season 4 (Here's hoping the new episodes don't suck)
8pm: Chowder
8:30pm: The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack
9pm: Adventure Time
9:30pm: Total Drama Island

8pm: The Secret Saturdays
8:30pm: Batman: The Brave and the Bold/DC Comics Presents (alternating)

It'll be great if Cartoon Cartoon Fridays returns, but it's better to be just Fridays, since CCF was only for CN Original series. Fridays will have both original and unoriginal series. Here's my schedule:
6:00 - Chowder [NEW] (when it ends it will be moved at 10)
6:30 - Flapjack [NEW]
7:00 - Adventure Time with Finn and Jake [NEW]
7:30 - Cartoonstitute [NEW]
8:00 - Total Drama Action [NEW] (after the season ends it will be moved at 9:30 and when Total Drama the Musical premieres on CN it will be back at 8)
8:30 - 6teen [NEW]
9:00 - Stocked [NEW]
9:30 - Ben 10 Evolution [NEW]
10:00 - Star Wars: The Clone Wars [NEW]
10:30 - .com Pick
The set will be the same as CCF. There will be a different host every week like Chris, Chef, Jude, Chowder, Yoda, Flapjack, Dexter and many more, but when there's a Halloween or Christmas special everyone will host. Every week the viewers can vote for a show (there will be 5 choises every week) and the show with the most votes will get to air at 10:30 on Fridays. If some week a show doesn't have a new episode, then it will have to air a re-run. Adult Swim will start at 11 PM every Friday.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: action cartoons and comedy cartoons don't work on the same block. They generally attract and are aimed at different audiences. I don't recall CCF or Fridays ever airing any action cartoons, so I don't get why so many people think this should happen.
In the heyday of CN which everyone remembers so fondly, there were blocks such as Toonami and Miguzi which were for premiere action cartoons, and Fridays was for premiere comedies, and more recently we have Har Har Tharsdays for premiere comedies and (until recently) You Are Here for premiere action cartoons, and that's how it should stay, IMHO. Why designate a chunk of programming time as a block if it's just going to be the same random assemblage of shows that you can see any other time on the channel?
BTW, just because a series is an acquisition doesn't mean it's not original. A premiere is still a premiere, even if it's 3rd party.

Wow.... nobody seems to want to watch The Outsiders by the look of the schedules lawl.
If Toonami came back with as an action block and with a comedy block I would watch. I don't think that's a bad mix at all actually.

Ok, but if Toonami did come back, what shows should be on it? CN doesn't have the rights to a lot of the shows that aired on Toonami anymore, so it cannot just recreate the block as it was. Not to mention, cN will not put new shows on it, not shows from 5 years ago.
Really now saying that brining back Toonami will fix everything is far too simple, Toonami was jsut the name of a block, the name itself doesn't change anything.

They did it once before I see no hardship in doing it again. I'm not trying to say bringing Toonami back would fix everything, but riding the real world chu chu train will just end up with them driving off a cliff.

It's The Othersiders, actually, and many hardcore CN fans are deliberately ignoring the CN Real programs as a form of protest. Also, I heard that Othersiders is kind of cheesy.

I don't wish to re-open that old can o' worms, but I completely agree. First, that's unrealistic because even if Toonami did return to cartoon Network, it wouldn't be the same Toonami from 1998-2004 that many of us fell in love with. It would have new original programming and regardless if said shows were good or mediocre, it would still not be enough to save Cartoon Network. A block is only as good as the shows that air on it.
Second, Toonami is dead. It was canceled last September and it's not coming back. Ever. If Cartoon Network still wanted Toonami around, it would still be around. Period.
But please, please, please, let's not turn this into another debate about Toonami. Folks are basically beating a dead horse at this point.

I watched an episode of the othersiders and yes.... it was beyond cheezy.
I guess since CN won't listen, not watching the shows is the only possible way that we can do anything lol.
Like i said in previous posts, the block wouldn't save them but it COULD be a start in the right path. But you're right, CN would probably just ruin tom some more and put worst shows known to man on it.
Seems to me though that the more time they took away from it over the years the worse it became.
Ranting ftl :(
Wish they would take that garfield 3D show off..... that version is no where near funny than the 2D =P
If you're trying to recreate Har Har Tharsdays, then Ben 10 doesn't belong there. Ben 10 is an action show; it should air on an action block.
And what "other thing"?
I said it would basically be a recreation of HHT because most of the shows were from said block.
I don't know what the other thing is. I think it's a whale.

If you mean Bubbie, she's on Flapjack, not Chowder.

No offense to everyone here but it's time for a quality Friday block and for CN to acquire decent cartoons because
1. Naruto is WAY overrated and it's fanbase is freaking insane
2. I see nothing of interest in the Total Drama series NOR Clone Wars
6:00: The Dreamstone
7:00: Chowder (NEW)
7:30: Adventure Time (NEW)
8:00: Untalkative Bunny
8:30: Watership Down (The TV Series)
9:00: PPGZ
9:30: The Animals of Farthing Wood
10:00: Flapjack (NEW)
10:30: Kaiketsu Zorori

The schedule isn't organized right. Chowder, Flapjack and Adventure Time should be first. PPGZ should be last. But about the other shows, I don't think CN will ever air them, because these shows are too old to have a premiere on the channel. I see that only Chowder, Flapjack and Adventure Time have new episodes. This block should air new episodes, not mostly old shows that make their premiere now.

No offense meant, but this doesn't even seem like a program block; rather, it's more of a random assortment of programs with no rhyme or reason to them. I realize that the above is a fantasy schedule and as such, you can put any shows that you want on it, but it's too random and confusing for my tastes. You have comedy cartoons, action cartoons and drama cartoons all airing on the same block. It's all over the place. That schedule needs to be organized a little better.
Also, having reruns of canceled shows airing alongside premieres makes the block seem like a joke, although one could conjecture that since those shows have never aired on CN or in the U.S. before that they would be "new" in a sense. Still, I think that a program block should be exclusively either new shows or reruns, not both.

That would work for Boomerang. But would lose when placed against Disney and Nick.

I think some older anime could probably do pretty well on Boomerang. I wouldn't be shocked if something like Dragonball came to the network.
New CCF-style block Idea...
6:00PM Chowder (NEW)
6:30PM Flapjack (NEW)
7:00PM Johnny Test (NEW)
7:30PM Adventure Time (NEW)
8:00PM The Garfield Show (NEW)
8:30PM Total Drama Action (NEW)
9:00PM Stoked (NEW)
9:30PM 6teen (NEW)
A bit long, but wasn't the original CCF long as well?
And yes, as said before, it'd feature Cartoon characters as hosts.
Examples.
Week 1: Chris Macclean (TDI/A)
Week 2: Johnny and Dukey (Johnny Test)
Week 3: Zack (The Secret Saturdays)
Week 4: Jude (6teen)
Week 5: Chef Hatchet (TDI/A)
Week 6: Chowder (Chowder)
Week 7: Flapjack and K'nuckles (Flapjack)
Week 8: Batman (Batman: The Brave and the Bold)
Or, a block like that stays as HHT, and we get a new Friday Night Action block, ideally a revived Toonami.
6:00PM The Secret Saturdays (NEW)
6:30PM Ben 10: Alien Force (NEW)
7:00PM Sym-Bionic Titan (NEW)
7:30PM Code Lyoko (NEW) [I know. I include this in every one of my action block schedules.]
8:00PM Batman: The Brave and the Bold (NEW)
8:30PM Naruto (NEW)
9:00PM One Piece (NEW)
9:30PM Star Wars: The Clone Wars (NEW)
And yes, the One Piece episodes would be the Funimation dub. I'm not a fan of this show, but I've seen what 4kids did with it... Oh god.
