View Full Version : Flapjack Not Renewed?!
Love him or hate him, with "Chowder" ending and "Adventure Time" not yet premiered, Flapjack has been continuing the legacy CN's original cartoons, of which, is quickly going the way of the Dodo thanks to CN Real.
Is even he done?
Cartoon Network doesn't cancel shows, they just don't renew them.
C.H. Greenblatt, creator of "Chowder", said his show had fallen to such a fate. He also said that even if Chowder got great ratings over summer, that still might not save it.
Is 'Flapjack' facing the same fate, but Thurop hasn't told us?
The TAG Blog is the official news source from The Animation Guild.
Its president stopped by Cartoon Network, and here's what one staff member said:
I spent a part of my morning at Cartoon Network, where Chowder and Flapjack to hear staffers tell it, are soon to be part of CN's history:
"They're writing some scripts and doing some boards for new episodes, but right now it looks like Flap and Chowder aren't being picked up. I'm getting laid off next week, know of any new shows happening other places?" ...
What?! Is it really true that' Flapjack' may receive the same death sentence as "Chowder" - no renewal?!
I hope not! (http://animationguildblog.blogspot.com/2009/06/over-at-cartoon-network.html)

I'm a bit out of the loop here, but weren't they working on a new season.
It's airing right now. However, it sounds like that's it. Two seasons and then kaput. Kind of criminally short life for a cartoon on the Cartoon Network!

They're still working on season 2, but after that, I really wouldn't be surprised if it just didn't get renewed again.
ARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH
I didn't want to believe it, but it happened.
There better be some good stuff from the 2010 Upfronts.

How many episodes will Flapjack have in total when season 2 is complete? Also, what is the break-down for # of eps in season 1 and 2?

I believe it's 20 half-hours for both seasons.

I don't want to be too optimistic. But just because no episodes have been ordered as of yet, doesn't mean the show hasn't been renewed.
Give it some time.

Why on earth is CN throwing out two cartoons that have done quite well for them these past two years? It doesn't make any sense. STOP IT. Stop killing good shows before their time.

Well, while I know its not 100% certain yet that Chowder and Flapjack have been canceled, I do have one thing to say.
Chowder and Flapjack are much more successful and popular than Cartoon Network's originals have been in the past few years. They're more successful than Camp Lazlo, and Gym Partner. Yet neither of those shows ever came close to being given the boot until they were finally given the boot. And if I'm not mistaken, both shows had more episodes than Chowder and Flapjack do.

CN would be shooting theirselves in the foot if they did this.
So no.

Camp Lazlo had around 6-7 seasons, and Gym Partner had around 4 IIRC with 50-something episodes, despite not being nearly as popular. Meanwhile Chowder only has 45 (or is it 49?) half hours and Flapjack has 40. I still think there's a possibility of CN wanting to wait and see how the ratings for the eps airing this summer are gonna be like first. We all have to remember that there's still a lot of episodes left of both shows to air. Heck, we're still in season 1 of Flapjack!
C.H. Greenblatt isn't too confident about Chowder's future: (http://nerdarmada.blogspot.com/)
And if you need more proof that we're not a part of CN's future, take a look at this page. (http://www.cartoonnetwork.com/thissummer/)
No mention of Chowder or Flapjack in the summer shows. And you can't say it's just new shows they're promoting, because Clone Wars has been on, Flicks has been on, and Total Drama Action is a sequel to an existing show. There's a sea change afoot and we're getting swept under.
But at least we get to premiere all new episodes until the end of the year! And they're really good ones. We hit a great stride second season. So do enjoy!
You might have seen the press releases of the new shows coming to Cartoon Network. There's a big shift in what this network will be next year, and we don't know if we'll still be a part of it. There will be new Chowders airing until the end of the year, but right now we're winding down production. People get laid off starting at the end of next week. We could still be picked up, but it would be hard to reassemble the crew in its current form. If this really is the end, then it's been a good run and we've had a lot of fun. I hope you all continue to enjoy the show.
We're working on the last Chowder episode and it's looking to be a really good one. I wanted to make sure know you how everyone's lives ended up, so we're doing a special half-hour story set twenty years in the future. Best of all, you get to meet the kid who becomes Chowder's apprentice! It was actually an idea I had from the very beginning to pull a Dragonball Z, where the series jumps to the future and we follow the next generation.
We don't know if there'll be any more Chowders after this one, so we have to assume this is the end until we hear otherwise. As I was told, CN doesn't cancel shows, they just don't renew them. This summer could change things if ratings are really good. We premiere in June, but I have no idea what week, and I was told there'll be minimal advertising before the re-launch. If we do well, it'll be thanks to the dedicated fans, not the network.

I asked the man himself, Thurop Van Orman, and this is what he had to say.
welll... I they're asking me how many more episodes I wanna do... so I think they want more... but we ARE making an extra special episode for the end of second season, just in case...

That's good. If this really is the end, at least we'll be able to see the shows go out with actual finales, instead of just regular episodes.

Well, that's at least a little better than what we've been hearing. CN would be insane to cancel Chowder and Flapjack.

I still believe that Flapjack has a better chance of survival on Cartoon Network than Chowder. Since Chowder does seem to somewhat fall under the new action phase that CN is going through, especially all these later episodes.

Well, for once I'm glad CN is doing these extended seasons, since 40 eps in total is far better than 26 over 2 seasons.
As for shooting themselves in the foot/ being crazy, CN has been doing a lot of that lately. I don't know what to expect from them anymore. For all I know they could kill Adventure Time after the contracted first season is done.

Even if Flapjack and Chowder are not being renewed after their second seasons, both shows still have a number of episodes left to air (Chowder has over 15 and Flapjack has over 20).
Neither show is going anywhere anytime soon.

Chowder and Flapjack are the best CN originals I've seen in awhile. I'd hate to see them go so soon.

Wait, what? Are you saying that Chowder has a lower chance of being renewed than Flapjack because it's a comedy cartoon? Because Flapjack is one too, ya know...

Flapjack is long gone, I haven't heard anything about this show being renewed at all or having new episodes in ages. I'm also a member on TV.com and a lot of the users there I know don't like this show, but some of them do. In my opinion Flapjack was actually a pretty decent cartoon show, and I actually wouldn't mind it being renewed eventually with at least 10 more new episodes or so. I think my favorite character in the show was K'Nuckles.

New episodes are going to be airing each Thursday for the rest of the summer, and Thurop Van Orman mentioned that Cartoon Network appears to be somewhat interested in ordering more episodes. It’s still possible that the series will be cancelled, but I’m not sure how you came to your conclusion.

I know, but they could always turn it around, especially since Flapjack seems to fit CN new agenda of adventure like show. After all we have Greenblat, who's acting bitter that Chowder might be canceled, and Thurop acting positive about how his show might be picked up, he's just playing it safe for now.
 Don't kill The Misadventures of Flapjack!!!!! I like this show and it's one of the few Cartoon Network original's left, for CN to kill it just does not make any sense to me whatsoever.
