What are some of your biggest pet peeves and why?

When people, in the midst of their conversations, use "you know?" too many times. It seems every four or five words are followed by "you know?", and that's annoying. It ruins an interesting discussion for me.

My biggest pet peev is when my sister text me for no apperent reason. And it's not like it's wasting my minuets, but I just find it annoying sometimes... especially if we are in the same room and he text is in French.

I've got many, but two of the biggest ones I have are when people use "retarded" and "gay" as insults, or out of context.

People who correct you as you speak has always been a pet peeve of mine, going back to when I was little. A friend's mom was always doing it to me. For example, if I said something about "me and my dad," she'd correct me and I wouldn't be able to continue talking until I said "I and my father." Just shut up and let me talk the way I talk.
Another big one is when people say they'll call me or come over at a certain time, and never follow through. If you're going to come over but then get delayed or something, just call and tell me. Don't leave me hanging for hours, and then show up and act like it was the time you were supposed to arrive in the first place. Some of my friends are really terrible at this. I've always been very punctual. If I say I'll call somebody Monday evening around seven, I call them Monday evening at seven. If I say I'll be there at six, I'm always there about 5-10 minutes early. And if something happens and I can't come over or be there on time, I call right away to let them know.
When people, in the midst of their conversations, use "you know?" too many times. It seems every four or five words are followed by "you know?", and that's annoying. It ruins an interesting discussion for me.
Oh my God! My dad is like that. It seems like it just started a few months ago, but I swear, he uses "you know?" like it was a period. He's also got this other problem where he sniffs constantly. He can blow his nose three times in a row, and he still sniffs like he's got a cold, even when he doesn't have a cold. It's so grating to have long conversations with him.
Another one is people who clear their throats but sound like they're a clogged up garbage disposal trying to turn on. This guy in the store did it the other day as he walked right behind me, and I swear I thought he was going to blow my eardrums out. It was just so loud! My dad has this problem, too.
Also, people who talk their way through movies or TV shows ("Who's that guy?" "I wonder what he's doing." "Oh, he's gonna find out what so-and-so did." "Why did he do that? Oh, that must have been because so-and-so left him that note saying to take care of it." "He's gonna do it. Watch. Watch, he's gonna do it. He's going for it."), people who let out loud exaggerated yawns, and people who leave their cars in the driveway with the radio cranked up (usually tuned to rap) so that you can hear it all down the street or you just hear the constant thumping of the bass. These people are morons and I'd just love to walk down the street and beat them up. And kids who do nothing by jump their skateboards up and down, clattering them on the pavement. Skateboards are for skating, you little punks, not trying to see how much noise you can make by just repeatedly slamming them down on the ground.

- People that must say what you, or whatever they may be looking at are "like," and potentially even exaggerate it. Such as if you say no to something, and the other person feels the need to say "you're like noooo."
- People that wear crocs and complain about their feet being cold, or getting wet.
- "First!"
- People that insist on talking at the movie theater to ask what is a character doing instead of simply waiting like the rest of us to find out. The worst time being when I was 11 and went to see "Six Days, Seven Nights" with my family. My aunt and mother were completely baffled (and voicing their confusion) as to why Harrison's character insisted on taking the pontoons from the wrecked war plane, and I had to explain that it was to replace the landing gear on his plane, and to make it float. Which they would have found out themselves only a few minutes later if they had been patient.
- Opinions used as facts.
- Previews for upcoming episodes ruining plot twists, or the best jokes.

Also, I co-sign what was said about people who leave grocery carts in the middle of the parking lots instead of putting them away in the sections provided.

Wow, where do I start:
-the amount of garbage my family throws out. I tell them that most things are recyclable, and that there's no reason to throw out a bag of garbage a day, or average.
-my parents' (especially my father's) lack of respect for my diet.
-Being talked down to.
-People who can't separate opinion from fact.

I'm sure everyone has a million pet peeves. Here are some of mine:
- People who sleep with the TV on while I'm trying to sleep in the same room.
- People who talk loudy on the phone and not leaving the room so I don't have to hear them.
- Loud neighbors, particularly ones who are playing extremely loud music.
- Teachers who make assignments all or nothing. For example, I'm taking a math class right now that is about Graphs and Optimization. We each have to do a portfolio of problems assigned throughout the whole year. By the end of the semester, if even one of the problems is still wrong, we don't get any credit for the portfolio at all and since it's 40% of our grade, we would fail. I mean, it's taken me a lot of hard work and time to do all of these problems, so having the stakes this high is ridiculous. I think I deserve at least SOME credit, regardless. I know it's good to go back and make corrections, but making sure all of them are correct by the end of the semester is ridiculous, especially considering I need to spend time working on stuff for my other classes. We don't even have enough time to go over all the problems we got wrong, and I really do try my best.
- Having a lot of homework assignments from a number of classes due on the same day. This is the biggest flaw, honestly, as far as having all of your classes taught by various teachers during the year as opposed to just one.
- Teachers who underestimate their syllabus and end up rushing final assignments. For my English class, for example, my teacher still plans to assign us our research paper, despite the fact that classes end in less than 2 weeks from now.
- Teachers who teach their classes by basically talking for the entire period by themselves, without even encouraging student interaction. This is especially a problem with my History class, because I feel the class would be more enjoyable and enriching if students like myself are given more time for discussion.

I cannot stand those girls who act like being assertive and stubborn makes them seem tough. Just because you're from the ghetto doesn't mean society is going to treat you any differently. Life isn't fair, deal with it.
Also I get easily agitated by crying babies in public. Whether or not it's considered proper parenting to ignore them having a temper tantrum I don't care, but the rest of the world doesn't want to wait for their little fit to end.

When people leave their grocery carts all over the parking lot instead of putting it back in the specific spot designed to hold the carts until an employee brings them back to the store.
Yes!! That's me too. I don't care if the grocery cart racks are 7 cars up from where I park, I'll still put it back and not just leave it there by my car.
My pet peeve is when people say stuff that contradicts my basic knowledge of weather, ESPECIALLY if it's someone that has no idea what they're talking about whatsoever, and then turn around and act like I'm the one that's wrong.

-Drivers that speed down a small road at 60 and stop abruptly right before turning onto the main road, like they're going to just keep going despite me having the right of way. My town does this and I don't know why. Some don't even stop in time behind the white line and have to back up.
-People that park right beside my car in a vacant parking lot, so I have to make sure they don't 1) scratch the car, 2) play the open door racing game.

-People who swear so much during a conversation. I don't mind a few swear words, but if they to use the F-word or S-word in every other sentence then it's hard for me to take them seriously.
-People chewing with their mouths open.
-I do get a little annoyed by crying and screaming babies in public places.
-Being made fun of about my weight. I'm very skinny. I weigh a little less than 120 pounds. Back in high school people would ask me if I ever ate. I do eat a lot I just don't gain weight. It's not my fault.
-People who act like their opinion is fact.
-People who don't turn off their cellphones or put them on vibrate in the movie theater. It pisses me off even more when people talk on them while the movie's playing. If you need to answer the phone that bad then step outside.
-Even though I'm black I despise being called the N-word. I don't like anyone calling me that. Even if you're black too.

Generally speaking, I hate having a phone conversation in the room when someone else is there. This is only partially out of respect for the other person, but honestly it's so I can avoid a commentary on my own conversation. Right now i'm in college and sometimes my roommate will just ask, "what are you talking about?".....ITS NONE OF YOUR DAMN BUSINESS!, IM NOT TALKING TO YOU! or, he'll just give his opinion on a matter I told someone else. either way, really annoying.
Especially among students, people who complain about not having enough time. you know what, time is universal, we all have the same amount of time, its not different from you. I take just as many classes as you do and have to maintain a job, go to extra curricular activities and still spend much time wasted on the net, yet i still manage.
whenever people sing christmas songs when its not christmas time. not often, but when it does, it kills.
sure there will be more, will let you know when they come to mind.

I take just as many classes as you do and have to maintain a job, go to extra curricular activities and still spend much time wasted on the net, yet i still manage.I'm going to have to take exception to this. This semester, for instance, I'm taking 15 hours, tutoring in our writing center, working on the school newspaper, working another job on weekends, AND playing on the university softball team. There really is next to no extra time in my day. A lot of homework (mostly reading) never gets done because, well, I need at least a few hours of sleep at night. I rarely waste a lot of time online during the week as well. I know time management; there really is very little time in my day. At all.

People who don't use their blinkers when they are about to turn. It would be great to warn me ahead of time so I don't run into you.
People who ride your tailpipe when there is ice and snow on the roads. Yes I am careful when the roads are slippery, you should be too.
Okay this is a pet peeve of mine from work and its been annoying me for quite a while now. We give discounts to people with AAA auto club and of course when I ask older people they would usually say "No but I have AARP" and then laugh about it. Seriously its not funny and its not the same thing, notice that AAA has three A's hence the name triple A. AARP has two a's and thats double a. [/nag]

Whether or not it's considered proper parenting to ignore them having a temper tantrum I don't care, but the rest of the world doesn't want to wait for their little fit to end. I've gotten over that when its actually a baby because there's really only so much you can do short of leaving it at home which isn't always a viable option. Its when parents let their 5 or 6 year olds carry on like lunatics that I want to start biting off noses.

my biggest pet peeve is when someone stands over my shoulder
People who don't know the difference between "Your" "You're" "Their" and "They're". Its SO simple I don't understand how their can be any confusion ;)
People who pass yellow lights. I mean people who don't understand what they're for. I hate people that are very far away speed up just to barely pass the yellow light or cars that keep going while its yellow. Thats not what is there for its if you are unable to break on time or if you were already passing. It annoys me SO much whenever I can't go on when I have a green light just because of some person who doesn't understand what it means.
I hate people that tailgate you and try to annoy you when you are driving the speed limit. I can understand if you're going slower but I'm doing nothing wrong for driving at the speed limit, stop being a jerk. Yeah we all drive above the speed limit most of the time and I hate when people are driving slower than it slowing you down but when you are following the law there is no reason for them getting pissed at you.

This is most annoying when someone does this on the expressway. I try to keep a good amount of space between my car and the car in front of me. Why can't you? Heaven forbid I may have to slow down or stop suddenly. Then where are you? Plowing right into the back of my car, that's where.

Be prepared, I've got a few. I'm a crank.
People who act like their opinions are concrete facts.
People who call things "gay" when they want to insult. That's so thunderously stupid it makes my head hurt.
People who swear excessively. I'm not a prude, but an overdose of F-and-S-bombs just diminishes any point you're trying to make. It's especially annoying when people swear when it's not necessary. (Where's the ****in' salt?!).
People who take grocery carts home with them, then leave them lying around anywhere. You paid for the groceries, but that doesn't include the cart. Just because you used the cart doesn't make it yours. If you don't feel like carrying the groceries home, simple solution: get a car.
People who talk during movies, then ask you what's going on in the film. Maybe if you weren't yakking the whole time and we're actually paying attention to the bloody movie, then you'd know what was going on and you wouldn't have to ask.
People who talk loudly on cellphones. Why do some people think that everyone else wants to hear their incredibly trivial conversations?

- People who take your clothes out of the washer or dryer, just because they are impatient to wait for you to come back and take them out yourself. I don't want people touching my clothes and taking them out, thanks.
- When my roommate invites people into the room without asking if I'm ok with it. Visitors on occasion is fine, but when it becomes a habit, it get's kinda annoying. I like having my personal space.

-People who beep at the lead car in front---the very second a traffic light turns green at an intersection. Seriously, if they could just wait for two seconds...
-People who think reading is stupid.
-People who push themselves to be borderline perfect, but end up making themselves out to be negative and critical of everything around them. I have a friend who is like this, and she actually labels her friends as either "her smart friends" or "her average friends" based on their academics.
-Teenagers with personalities so fake you can sense it. Every time I hear someone talk like an idiot just to pleasure society it sickens me.
Also I get easily agitated by crying babies in public. Whether or not it's considered proper parenting to ignore them having a temper tantrum I don't care, but the rest of the world doesn't want to wait for their little fit to end.

Here a couple of mine:
When people say they'll do something and then not do it. I know many people like this and it's just annoying. It's unfortunate that so many people don't live up to their word.
People who leave their phones on vibrate in class. Well you know what? people can still hear if it goes off so turn it to silent please!
Lack of respect.
No manners
People who always use the excuse of "being busy." I know that! I am too! But you can manage time for if you really want to and I believe that some people just don't want to.
People who use opinions as facts
People who are underminers. I can't stand these types of people. They make it seem like your problems don't matter and that their issues are the biggest ones in the world. One of my good friends is like this. I love her to death but it's one of those things I can't stand about her.
Just a few of mine:)

Same here. I'm a sensitive person and that really just not hurts the person that is being called at but hurts me as well. It's just so rude and inapropriate. And I hate it when people are trying to be cool to fit in say those words.
And almost every period in class there's sombody that calls out words and unrelevant questions to the teacher or/and the entire class that it just bugs and gets me out focus.

just got back from a concert and what just about drove me up the wall more than some of the talking, was the "shhh"ing. There were at least 5 "shhh"es that were obnoxiously loud AND i didn't hear who they were trying to tell to be quiet a moment before so it was a loud and sudden "shhh"
A couple of you have mentioned crying babies, and most of the time I think its okay. they're babies and they will cry. but during a performance its just rude. Im glad my local concert hall (which this particualar show didn't take place) forbids children under the age of 10 but not this one.
and if the crying babies weren't bad enough, some people were trying to "shh" the babies from like 5 rows back. that damn kid can't even see you, know who you are, and the parents are already taking care of it (for the most part, they'll do anything to avoid leaving the show which is reasonable from their point of view but from mine, i want them evaporated) so SHUT THE HECK UP!

- People who take your clothes out of the washer or dryer, just because they are impatient to wait for you to come back and take them out yourself. I don't want people touching my clothes and taking them out, thanks.
I tell people over and over to stop this, and I try my best to keep a steady rhythm going (if the dryer still has a load in, I listen for the washer to stop so I can put those clothes on top of the dryer to make room in the washer for the next load.) I also make sure to finish whatever laundry I'm doing before I leave the house, so there's no reason not to tell me if my clothes are done.
And they usually put them in the most horrible places after I've taken the trouble to dry them. Instead of just putting them in my room, they lay them on chairs where the dogs pass under them and get hairs all over everything. And my dogs like to fling their coats CONSTANTLY.
People who dont wash there hands after going to the bathroom.
I'll probably get to my encyclopedia of public restroom pet peeves later, but for now...yeah, I've learned to just use a wad of paper towels to open the door.

- I hate people touching my straws.
- Don't like my neck touched, especially from behind.
-Hate being cramped, possibly have to do with mild claustrophobia
- "How OLD are you!?"
- Rubberneckers on the highway
- My mom's friends talking very loudly in Spanish while I'm trying to watch TV. The suddenly I'm accused of having the TV too loud.:mad::mad:

You know? I can't think of a lot right now. Which is weird, 'cause I'm usually always going on about something that's gotten me angry.
The one thing I can think of right now is when people shorten words down to one syllable, for example "naturally" down to "natch." It's not that hard to say the whole word! It's not like we have a set amound of syllables that we can use.

I pronounce virtually nothing. Like, if someone asks me if I want something - I won't say "no, I'm good," I'll say "nahmgud." Not just slurring the words - combining them into one single, two-syllable word. Same thing with "you know" (y'know?) and "it's alright" ('s'alrite) and a bunch of other replies.
I enjoy it quite a bit.
Oh, one more thing: people that contribute nothing to a conversation. Like, I tell a story and they respond with "really?" or "interesting" or something like that. It makes me feel as if the ball remains in my court despite the fact I've just put far more force into the speech. Or... something.

- People who take your clothes out of the washer or dryer, just because they are impatient to wait for you to come back and take them out yourself. I don't want people touching my clothes and taking them out, thanks. It's one thing if your laundry has been sitting in there for awhile--like a few hours. If there's only one set of machines around, well, sometimes people need to do laundry. I know I'll be waiting for the washer/dryer and if the person hasn't moved their stuff within about 45 minutes of finishing, I'll take it out and put it on top. On the other hand, if it's been like 5 minutes since the load finished and they're THAT impatient to do a load, well that's ridiculous.
One thing that bothers me is when people don't do those small, polite things that they don't have to do, but really should. I'm talking holding the door when you're within a few steps, a friend offering a helping hand when your arms are full and they've got a free hand, supposedly good friends not consulting you about grouping up for things... Little things like these show how polished a person is when it comes to manners, and some friends of mine are sorely lacking in this area. Irks me to no end.

There are many I can rattle off, but I'll just add this: double-dipping. Dip the chip/bread stick once, please. I'm kind of a germ-freak when it comes to food. I can't stand it when someone takes a random drink out of my soda can either. Always seemed to happen at high school lunch.

My biggest peeve is being accused for something that I didn't do. For example: one time at my high school, I was in the lunch room sitting down minding my own business (I have a twin brother by the way) when all of a sudden, a janitor came up to me and he said that the next time he saw me in the lunch room, he was going to call security and have them escort me out. I was like ".......what are you talking about?" and he was like "I saw you in the lunch room 2 periods ago and you're ditching". I was like "No, that wasn't me. I have a twin brother". He didn't believe me and he was like "No, don't give me that crap!" Well, eventually the janitor found out that I was telling the truth and he didn't even apologize to me!! How in the world is someone going to come up to me and accuse me of something I didn't do, then when they find out they were wrong, they don't even apologize!!

While it seems small, it still kindof irks me, people who STILL pronounce Ryu from Street Fighter's name as "RAIYU". Is this one of those conditioning experiences that prolonged usage of that pronunciation of the name causes them to keep doing that? And this is LONG after the fact that constant audio cues in more recent games reveal that it's pronounced as "Ree-yu".

I was like, " 'Roo'?! What is this, Winnie the Pooh?"

There are many I can rattle off, but I'll just add this: double-dipping. Dip the chip/bread stick once, please. I'm kind of a germ-freak when it comes to food. I can't stand it when someone takes a random drink out of my soda can either. Always seemed to happen at high school lunch.
You'll be pleased to know that the Mythbusters recently disproved the "double-dipping spreads a lot of germs" theory.
The first thing that comes to mind is how unrelentingly grouchy my coworkers are. I observed this last night - everyone was in a foul mood but me. And you know, it was all the typical complaints; "This sucks, I hate my job, I wanna go home, why do I have to do this", etc. Most of them are still high schoolers, but even the ones who are in their 20s tend to behave like teenagers (and that includes the managers). So they're the types who expect everything to be handed to them, who don't want to work for a living and are more concerned with the drama of their social lives. And that drama frequently spills into the workplace, mind you (inter-employee dating occurs frequently, even though it's not actually allowed, and there's been a lot of talk about how one ex-employee is supposedly cheating on the part-time shift supervisor that he's been dating).
Me, I just do my work without complaint. 'Cause I know it's how I'll get enough money to provide for myself and eventually move on to a nicer job. Everybody else seems to demand instant gratification.

When people say something completely offensive and terrible, but think that prefacing it with "no offense" makes it okay. "No offense, but you are a worthless, ugly waste of oxygen and you should have died during childbirth."
Also, when people say anything prefaced by "I'm not prejudiced, but.." The next part of that sentence is always something that reveals that person is horribly prejudiced.

One that really annoys me is when people are like "I'm a so-and-so major so I know what I'm talking about/this is why I'm right/etc." Or when they constantly talk about what their major is. I really don't care.

I was reminded of this from a conversation I had with someone today. Anyway, I can't stand cruel neighbors, and by "cruel" I mean someone who throws animal poison into your backyard to try and kill your dog. Also, stealing your outside decorations for the holidays. Just awful.

i have quite a few pet peeves
1. rude people
2. really slow drivers
3. Hannah Montana(ugh!) & HSM
4. when my computer freezes
& some others
Oooooooo where do I begin:
- People who walk behind me, and then trip me up.
- When my mother feels the need to shout things at me for no apparent reason.
- People who talk/text in the cinema. They really need to shaddup.
- People who don't clean up after their dogs.
- Chavs.
- Whiny people who feel the need to spill out their life story to people on the interent.
- Bratty spoilt kids who need a good kick where the sun don't shine.
- Huge queues in the supermarket.
There's more but the list would be too long....

People who just watched a George Carlin/Bill Hicks special, and then bring down the mood of everyone around them with their "humanity is worthless" lectures.

When people swear alot for no reason. I mean a "hell" or "damn" is okay here and there, its just when people are dropping f-bombs right and left, then we got a problem
The use of "gay" meaning bad, stupid, lame, ect. I find that very offensive
When people talk non-stop on their cell phones ecspecially in places like the library
When people say that the only people who watch cartoons are little kids and stoners/drunks. (I had a teacher that said that once)
At my school there is a place called the "Silent Room" and it just bugs me when people treat it like the "Social Room"

Heard those kind of rules are hard to enforce. I know my college is having a hard time about this policy they implemented last year about it that people can't smoke on campus, hell they can't even smoke in their cars, which I consider fair game. If you think about it cars are your own property, not the school.

They should just let students be the adults that they are. It's impossible to create a "tobacco free generation" like the PSAs say.

Cable operators that flat out hang up on you when you try to politely tell them it's a bad connection and you need to redial. I could have done that.
Nutcases that call you, knowing they have a wrong number, and demand to know who you are, without saying who they are first. I had a lady actually screaming in my ear at one point.

-When the pitch of a TV show is wrong.
-When you hate something, you're deem an "butthole" by someone, when that's not true.
-People getting tick at things they shouldn't.
-When you're asked to be what you're not.
-Repeating the same things over and over, knowing that the thing that's being repeated will never happened.
-People who think they're funny, while they're actually annoying.
But it's mostly the TV pitch thing...

"Me and my friend..."
I am a writer. I am an English major. PLEASE do not you the English language like that around me, OK?!
yeah, i correct my brothers ALL the time and they're always like "it doesn't matter." of course i wouldn't correct someone who's not a family member or friend.
when parents don't control their children in public. it's so annoying. especially when they're at the movies/church/etc and they don't take they're children outside and try to control them there.
also people who talk during movies/tv. its so annoying and frustrating.
immaturity, i cant stand it, especially when it comes to people being loud and rude during presentations and stuff.
when people try to correct you on something that you know to be a fact. and they keep insisting that you're wrong.
racism/prejudice. sorry but i hated high school because of this. in my goverment class some guy kept saying we should just blow up the Middle East. he was being serious too
