I recently decided to open an amazon account (after learning they have gift cards, so I don't have to use credit.) and I was wondering if Amazon as a whole was reliable, I mean I won't be waiting months for somthing to come in or what not, get e-mailed if the Item I want is sold out, etc?:p

They are very efficient. I have always gotten my packages in a timely manner.

Depends on the item. To be fair, any seller can't offer any guarantee on stock. Having worked in customer service a decade ago for video games, I was amazed how many people would play the seller for issues of stock simply being low, delayed or non-existent from a supplier. Not saying that the seller wasn't to blame in some cases, but there are no definite scenarios.

But as far as customer service goes, I've never had a better service than Amazon. They have a great returns policy, their prices are excellent. Aside from play.com, I've not had such quality and communicable online service. I'd say they're one of the best online.

I've ordered tons of stuff from them, and I've never had to return anything. Their standard shipping often gets to me before the 2 day would (but then again, I'm two hours away from the Pgh distribution center). :D

Everything I've ordered from Amazon (IE the main site, not the smaller outside merchants) has come in a timely manner and in many cases ahead of schedule (it pays to live 90 miles up the road from their corporate HQ). I'd say go for it.

Amazon is great for me, and I've found lots of great deals from them. I do about 95% of my anime shopping there.

I trust Amazon very faithfully, it very reliable, does have some items for cheap, and gets to my house in a timely matter. I even got my family to shop on Amazon, especially around the holiday season when they can't be bothered to got to the stores.

I've ordered several times from Amazon (the main site, not the small inside stores), and everything has arrived as described. So I say yes, it's very reliable.

And this comes from someone outside the U.S.

Amazon is definitely reliable. I Love amazon...its actually the thing I miss the most since moving out of the US. I'll probably order stuff from there soon though it won't be the same without the free shipping.

Costumer Service was excelent at least up until my last order in september.

Are they really THAT reliable? Think again... (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/30215820/)

Seems the only thing Amazon suffers from is 'human on human' customer service.. so yeah it's about as reliable as the Space shuttle..(With half of it's heat resistant tiles missing).

The one thing you need to beware of on Amazon is the fact that they do provide an eBay-ish service for independent sellers to sell their stuff through the site. This is always quite clearly marked, so you can easily avoid it if you're nervous about it. And like eBay, I'm sure they have various safeguards.

Other than that one little proviso, yes, they're a completely reliable site.

Good point-- I've once or twice gotten semi-burned buying what turned out to be bootleg merchandise from Amazon Marketplace sellers (to be fair, it was always USED merchandise, so it's entirely possible that the sellers were unaware of its bootleg nature and had gotten burned from whoever sold it to them). In each case, I sent an email complaining, and they e-mailed me a printable shipping label to send it back and get a full refund, no questions asked.

I also had an Xbox 360 die on me while it was under an extended warranty purchased through Amazon, and they gave me absolutely no guff about sending it back and having it fixed, so while being Xbox-less for a while as I waited for it to shipped to them and back was annoying, I couldn't be happier with the way I was treated service-wise.

I've been a regular customer for years, and in terms of getting stuff shipped to me in a timely manner, I have no complaints. If there's an issue where it may be out of stock or take longer than normal to ship, it's always very clearly marked as such. And their estimates for when something will ship and how long it will take to reach me are usually pretty accurate-- I often receive it sooner than they estimate, which is great, but I've never received it any later than one or two days beyond the estimate they give me.

I have shopped at Amazon quite a bit before and I always received my orders within a week or less after they were shipped out.

I have had some problems with ordering from the independent sellers on Amazon though. I also got a bootleg copy of an anime box set, which was used as well, and there was a time where the person sent me the completely wrong item. Still, I was able to get into contact with the sellers and they were really helpful and understanding.

I feel like the Amazon itself is really reliable, but I would be a bit cautious for the Amazon marketplace, even though I'm sure that the sellers there would be happy to help you with a problem as well.

Just like pretty much everyone else, I've been shopping with Amazon for years and had no problems. Everything is reasonably priced and shipped in a timely manner. The only problem I've had was through the Marketplace when the item I ordered was lost in the mail. I got in contact with the seller and they gave me a refund without a hassle. So yes, Amazon is a great place to do online shopping.

Yeah, the only time I don't use Amazon is when I'm buying something that's significantly cheaper at RightStuf or DeepDiscountDVD. Amazon's prices are almost always at least competitive, but they seldom have the very cheapest prices around when it comes to DVDs. And with computer stuff I usually go with Newegg, both for price and the fact that it's a dedicated site means that it's better organized and easier to find what I want. But other than that, if I buy it online, 99% of the time I'm buying it from Amazon.

The Amazon downloadable mp3 store is a worth a plug, too: they sell nice, normal, compatible-with-everything, DRM-free mp3 files for an equal or lesser price than the equivalent AAC file on iTunes.

Well after looking around amazon it seems like a decent amount of the DVDs i would like to purchase our out of production and can only be bought used, I think I'll still brave it though, after all since I'll be using a giftcard if anything goes wrong all I have to ask them to do is put the credit back on it. Oh why do I always want to buy things I can't find in stores! Darn you nostalgia! DARN YOU!!!!!!!:p

They're pretty reliable, but alot of the reviews for VHS's or DVD's are biased or not very good, and ofcourse theres some that waste space with a lengthy or short synopsis.

That's true, but I've seen that for product reviews for other stores like Borders and Barnes and Nobles' websites. I usually try to look for the reviews that are long enough and have good arguments in them, instead of the ones that are made in just a few small sentences.

I don't even look at user reviews on Amazon, I use other sites to get reviews of games, anime, tv shows, movies, or books that I'm interested in reading. Though it was a good way to expose a certain someone for the fraud they are.

Got some stuff being sent out right now :) Amazon is great for things like books, CDs and DVDs, but I find if you want anything specialist, you need to go elsewhere. That's why I get all my electronics from Newegg.

As for the delivery, if you choose SuperSaver as your delivery method, your stuff gets sent through the US Postal Service, and their tracking system is next to useless. If you cough up for delivery, you get UPS and get to see where your stuff is.

I love Amazon.com. I buy stuff all the time from it. I'd say that I even have good things to say about the independent sellers on there. The only time I had a discrepancy from one of them, they took care of it without any hassle.

I've been using Amazon for about ten years now and have never had a problem. If I can't find something in a store and need to order it online, Amazon is the first place I will check and order from if they have it. Books, CDs, DVDs; about 80% or so of such purchases have been through them. :)

I've been using Amazon for years now, and they're been pretty good. In all the years I've been ordering from Amazon, there was only one instance that I never received a package from them, and that was in December 08. I wrote them about that, and within the same day, they wrote back, telling me the package ended up being mishandled, and offered either to ship a new package with the same items, free of charge, or a refund. So, yeah, they've been good to me.

Gotta watch out for the marketplace segment of the site, though. Most of them are basically just people selling their used stuff through Amazon, so they're not as reliable in certain instances.

I've also purchased quite a bit through Amazon Marketplace and have never had any problems. All my orders arrived within the specified time frame or maybe just a tad after, but I haven't had any bad experiences. As long as you purchase from people/companies that have good ratings from other buyers, you should be okay. :)

Amazon.com is very reliable. All you need to do is read the description of the product carefully. They tell you what may be wrong with the item. Also items that are not sold by Amazon directly may have different return policies so make sure to read those before you purchase an item as well. Other than that it's all gravy. Amazon has an array of great products for low prices.
