They've been working on this for ages. So glad they have this open to the public now.

For those who don't know, Trillian allows you to chat from Aim, MSN, yahoo, ICQ, googletalk, etc, all from one program. In this new version they've added support for Facebook, Myspace, Twitter and a ton of other social networking sites.

I like the UI changes, though I prefer thier updated classic skin vs. the New Astra skin. For a beta, it's quite stable. They've actually gotten ridden the problem I had with loggin in to MSN/Live. Overall, I like this makeover.

Been using this for a few days since a friend invited me in and I must say I'm rather impressed with it. I do prefer the updated classic skin though, the new Astra skin just isn't for me.

One thing though, registration isn't open to the general public yet, that's just a signup to get into the beta. Once you are in though, you get 5 invites though, so you can invite others it.

Mods: Maybe we can make this the official Trillian Astra topic where people can ask for invites or talk about problems with it and stuff if there's interest?

When somebody manages to integrate Skype functionality in with the rest in a multi-service IM client, I'll get excited. I'm sick of having to run the Skype client alongside Pidgin in order to talk to the 3/4 of my friends who use it exclusively. Until that happens, anything Trillian releases is just more of the same as far as I'm concerned.

Not that Skype isn't great and all, but it's, well... not that great. I mean, it just plain doesn't do anything that other IM programs didn't already do ten years before anyone ever heard of it. Also its file transfer speeds are inexplicably slow. I mean, seriously. It's just a direct file transfer from one machine to one other machine. It's not complicated. The only two factors that determine the transfer speed should be the connection speed of the sender and the connection speed of the receiver. There's no logical reason why transferring the same file between the same two people should take literally ten times as long in Skype.

...Sorry, that wound up getting way off-topic.
