So I've got this new job as a stocker (not "stalker," mind you-- that's just my hobby), and one of the perks is that since I don't have to deal with customers or the general public, I can have headphones at work.

This is good, because it makes the work day (or night, in this case) go by quicker, but bad, because I'm starting to get sick of all my music. (-:

So I've been listening to the old Hitchhiker's Guide radio play lately, and that's pretty awesome, but I'm trying to space it out because once I'm done with that, I'll be officially out of stuff to listen to. I suppose I can hunt up some more audio books, but those can get expensive. ($15 a month for Audible? I think not!)

So, long story short, can anyone recommend any good podcasts to pass the time?

Preferably something funny and/or related to geek culture in general (you know, anime, video games, the kind of stuff we talk about around here all the time). Or something news/politics/current-events-related, I'm feeling sorely out of the loop now that I don't have a radio in my car to listen to NPR any more. But if you've got something you listen to that you want to pimp, I'll give just about anything a try.

Good clear audio quality is a must, because it gets kind of noisy at work sometimes and I don't want to have to crank up the volume to ear-bleeding levels just to understand what's being said.

Thanks!

How about Kyle Hebert's Big Bald Broadcast? It's both geek related, fun, and interesting to listen to.

There are only two podcasts that I listen to/subscribe:

Rangercast: A Power Rangers podcast. It's good, but the audio quality will not be up to your standards. http://rangercast.libsyn.com/
TalkRadar: The podcast for GamesRadar. My favorite gaming-related podcast. It's explicit and very funny. It's also extremely long, like the most recent episode is almost 2 hours, 45 minutes long. I've grown to enjoy Anime Pulse. It's a healthy dose of irreverance, with some anime reviews thrown in. Plus their review scale is cool.

And don't forget to check out Manga Pulse, which is the other show. Now THAT'S a funny show.

I don't like tooting my own horn.

However, the Toon Radio (http://www.toonadio.net) webcast offers the podcasts Anime Genesis, Anime Gate, GeekNights, and Anime 3000, along with animation-related radio programs such as Anime in the Limelight and Adventures in Anime Music, in schedled time slots. We also plan to add others as we acquire them. In fact, our Open Source block on Fridays lets listeners submt their own podcasts for broadcast.

Between podcasts, you can sample the soundtrack music that plays 24/7 every week of the year.

I also subscribe to MuggleCast and PotterCast (both obviously Harry Potter podcasts) and Imprint, which probably won't be up your alley, as it's a Twilight podcast done by several of the MuggleCast hosts.

Stuff You Should Know podcast...

Infact most of the How Stuff Works podcast network is pretty awesome... You can find them all if type in How Stuff Works in the itunes search bar.. but I definetly suggest checking the Stuff You Should Know one first, it's pretty awesome.

And if your into Lost I'd say Jay and Jack's podcast is awesome, and if your not into Lost they have a general podcast about different subjects, which is just as fun.

I've heard wonderful things about Ricky Gervais's podcast. Also, if you dig Kevin Smith, he's got one called SModcast.

Noobtoob. This is a weekly independent video game podcast, and it's hilarious. They do reviews, preview upcoming games, gaming news, voicemails, and more. They're mainly an hour long, but it's one well worth spent.

Thanks for the recommendations, guys! I loaded up an episode each of Anime Pulse, the Big Bald Broadcast, and NoobToob to try out tonight. Would've done more, but the wee little mp3 player I take to work is only 2 gigs. Came close to picking up a 4 gig Sansa to alleviate that, but then I found out that Archos is scheduled to release an 8 gig flash player for around the same price soon, so I'm gonna wait.

I also realized that saying, "Gee, I wish I had some podcasts to listen to," and "gee, it sucks that my car radio is gone so I can't listen to NPR any more" in the same post was pretty motarded, so I did the obvious thing and hit up the NPR web site to find out that, yes, most of their programs like Talk of the Nation can be had in podcast form as well. (-: Durr.

I have discovered Destructoid podcasts last night at work.

They teach me naughty things, like how to Quincy at Playstation Home

Oh god, it's hilarious.

I've only listened to like 2 episodes of it, and the side stuff they do on YT, but I love the One Piece podcast. I think of it as the One Piece equivalent of DaizenshuuEX, and they also have some well known members of the One Piece community, like Firecrouch and Demon Rin.

I look forward to the next episode.

In addition to MuggleCast, I listen to Smart Mouths Podcast. It is a current events/politics/pop-culture podcast and it is hosted by some of the MuggleCast hosts. I really like it, but I can see why some people would not like it (the views of the hosts are kind of one-sided).
