I know the Diamond and Pearl saga is far from over, but comparing the first half of the fourth generation (DP and Battle Dimension) to the first half of the third generation (Advanced and Advanced Challenge), which series would you say you’ve enjoyed more?

With AG, I absolutely loved the inclusion of contests, May, and rival Drew, which I believe to be one of if not the best things to happen to the series. However, I found the other portions of the show to be decent. Some of the gym battles were cool, as were Team Rockets new Pokemon and Ash helping his Pokemon learn new attacks but I was kind of bored with about half of the filler episodes and I was never too fond of Team Magma and Aqua. I also didn’t really like Ash and Brock’s new Pokemon aside from maybe Treecko (although I did like Ash’s Battle Frontier team).

DP has its fair share of good and bad too. I love the gym battles, the majority of the filler episodes, and Ash’s new rival Paul (who beats out May by an inch for favorite character). I feel the current team of Pokemon for the main characters are overall the best in the series. I like all of Ash, Dawn, and Brock’s Pokemon, although admittedly some of them are underutilized. I like the contest episodes but I don’t find myself enjoying them nearly as much as the ones in AG. I also like that the Elite Four and champion seem to be more involved than previous seasons. The Team Galatic and Pokemon Hunter J episodes are fun and hopefully we see a lot more of them. In terms of the bad, I think Dawn’s rivals are positively dull (oh, why couldn’t Conway be her rival? :(). I also don’t like Team Rocket as much as I use too. The Dustox and Cacnea farewell episodes were nice but I don’t particularly care for their antics anymore and their new Pokemon are bleh.

My opinion may change if rewatch the Hoen episodes, but for now I’m going to give the edge to the first half of DP.

Both have their ups and downs, although DP has the edge due to Paul (Ash had no rival in AG till the leagues), Pokehunter J, and Team Galactic being handled much better than Magma/Aqua.

On the other hand, I liked Ash's Hoenn Pokemon more than his DP Pokemon. Treecko was a lot more fun than Turtwig, and I also LOVED Corphish, it was one of Ash's funniest Pokemon. I also really liked Swellow and Glalie. Also Ash's Pokemon evolved a lot quicker in Hoenn than in Sinnoh, Treecko evolved by the 65th episode!

As for the contest arcs, again both have their ups and downs. I liked May's rivalries more, although I like how Dawn has lost the appeal rounds in contests twice in a row.

Also in terms of dub, is this going to be bias? 4kids still dubbed all of Hoenn, so all the old voices were in their prime back then. The PUSA voices are fine, but it took Ash's new voice awhile to get into the role properly, although now I like it a lot.

I've thought of this myself before, but I'm not sure since AG is already over and DP isn't close to being over with yet. I agree that both had their ups and downs. With DP, you do have Paul, who I do think is Ash's best rival, and it is nice to see Ash with a rival after not having one for most of AG. Even though I didn't mind too much with how Team Magma and Team Aqua were handled in series, even with the Groudon and Kyogre episodes, I have to admit that Team Galactic are seen as more of a threat. I like Pokemon Hunter J too since this show really did need a villain like her for a change of pace.

As for Ash's team, there are some Pokemon I prefer from AG and then DP on his team. I also prefer Treeko over Turtwig for its attitude and how it became so much cooler once it evolved. While Corpish was hilarious, I'm not sure I would choose it over Buizel since it's pretty cool, so I'm going with a tie. I definitely prefer Chimchar over Torkoal since I think that it's stronger and I love the emotional story that it has. Even though I'm sure Staravia will improve in the future, I have to go with Swellow on this one. I do think that Staravia has some funny moments though.

In all honesty, I prefer most of the Contest in AG over the Contests in DP. One of my favorite parts of AG was the introduction of Contests and the development of May as she became a stronger Coordinator. I think that it helps that I find both May and her rivals much more interesting characters than Dawn and her rivals. Unlike May, Dawn hasn't really developed her team yet and I find most of her rivals really dull. I even forgot that Kenny was even there for the longest time once. The only Contest I've enjoyed in DP was the Wallace Cup.

I haven't seen Advance or Advance Challenge for awhile so I can't compare the gym battles of those seasons with Diamond and Pearl or Battle Dimension. Though, I will say that I think Ash's best gym battle in a long time was against Lucario. It probably helps that Lucario is my favorite Pokemon too.

Anyway, I think that it's a bit too early for me to say which saga I prefer. Both have enjoyable qualities and things I wish that they could have improved upon. I think that it will be easier for me to tell after I see all of AG again and DP once that finishes up as well.

Not sure about which is better but both are awesome. No real problems with them at all! Both are better than the original Indigo League series and far better than any other "Mon" shows out there....

Wait. This thread was started yesterday? It's not an April Fools thread? Darn!

Well, in seriousness, they both have some merits but I don't want to talk about it seriously until this day has passed. :p

Both are really equal to me. Both have good qualities in their own sence. AG had a definate plus with the addition of contests. I also loved May's personality. And her rivals were great too. But the only thing about AG is the fact that I missed a bunch of episodes beucase that was about the time I started fading out of pokemon for awhile until the Battle Frontier when I started to get back into it.

DP, Ash's rivals are better (considering he didn't really have any Honnen rivals). Especially Paul, we haven't seen a character like him ever. I also think the villans in Sinnoh outweight the Honnen villans. With Team Galactic and Hunter J, we got some pretty intense villans.

I say I like DP much better cuz I like Ash rivalrs and gym battles a lot of his Pokemon are pretty cool. But Dawn's on the other hand, well lets just say she uses her Pipulp way more than it needs to be. I do like Bunery though, she's cute I just wish it was used more. Her contests can some times be fun, but her rivals are dull as heck, I don't think the writers know what to do with them. Zoey hasn't appeared in along time, they don't have backstory on her, her friendship rivalry with Dawn is lame. Kenny who? Nando who? Those two seemed to have disappeared off the face of the earth. I do like every ones outfits on the other hand, Dawns character is great and Brock seems more useful DP series. Over all yah I like DP series more. But I do like May's character over Dawn's and I like May's rivals over Dawn's as well meh.
