View Full Version : CN Spring Break 2009

I just saw the commercial for a couple of special marathons that will happen during spring break next week, and apparently they will also include "sneek previews" of some of the new CN shows that are comming. It's basically a rehash of the old "Summer Previews" that they used to do. So far I only saw bits from TDA and some of the new live action shows.
Thoughts?
I hope summer special bumps return:D
So that's what the weird schedule is about.
I wonder if we'll see some Generator Rex and Symbionic Titan footage.

So the spring schedule is weird huh? How so is there a whole bunch of marathons or high rated shows in the morning?

What types of marathons are we talking here? If there are marathons of shows that aren't airing on CN right now, then you've caught my attention. :)
Also if there's a preview of Sym-Bionic Titan, that'll make me happier.

Also if there's a preview of Sym-Bionic Titan, that'll make me happier. The Spring Break schedule will be pretty free-form, with mini-marathons (some will feature less-aired shows like Teen Titans) throughout the morning, and Flicks movies at noon. For example...
6.0 normal, but with Ben 10 AF taking over the 7.0 slot
9.0 Clone Wars x3
10.5 Ben 10 x3
12.0 Ace Ventura Jr.
2.0 Chowder x2
3.0 Johnny Test x2
4.0 TDI x2
5.0 Clone Wars x2
6.0 LOSE x2
7.0 back to normal

I want to see the commercial, this sounds good. I liked when Fridays did the previews for the coming year a few years back. But I hope that they don't have summer-exclusive bumps unless they're Nood bumps. Because if they have non-Nood summer exclusive bumps, than I can guarantee that the Noods will be gone come Fall.

The commercial only showed the current running shows, TDA, and some live-action shows. No Scooby, Adventure Time, B10 Evolutions, Superhero Squad, Rex or Titan.
I was at least hope they would try to show at least 3 more animated show previews, along with TDA.

My Two Cents:
1. Ben 10: Evolutions is coming next year (and the final season of Ben 10: Alien Force (which they should sneak some parts of the third season in there) coming up later this year), so why spoil anything on Evolutions when it's coming next year? Besides, it's still in production, give CN Studios some time. Same goes to Generator Rex, Sym-bionic Titan and Warner Bros. Animation's Scooy Doo - Mystery, Inc..
2. Since Adventure Time with Finn and Jake went through a couple of months in production with some storyboards done, CN should give us a sneak peak on how the show will look and move the CN Studios way, and give the fans a short interview with Pen Ward.
3. CN should also confirm an airdate for the Live Action shows (probably Saturday or Sunday), TDA, new Chowders and Flapjacks, and other comedy shows.

I sure hope the LA stuff is short-lived and CN can go back to airing all cartoons.

You Are Here isn't ending. Clone Wars Season 2, B&B Season "2," Ben 10 AF season 3, Secret Saturdays Season 2, and Sym-Bionic Titan will all be there (the tentative plan now is that Generator Rex could be on by the end of the year or mid-January, just prior to Evolutions premiere).
And The Othersiders could be there on You Are Here as well. Cartoon Network pretty much made it certain that Fridays is their fantasy/action night, and they're seeing The Othersiders, their first original "alternative" (read: reality) series, as an action series, and they're going to try to put it on the night, perhaps leading into The Clone Wars. Of course, the block could be expanded by an hour as a result, but nothing's written in stone yet (rather, it's on a dry erase board), and things change.
I guess Symbionic Titan has been in production longer than we thought.

Why did people think that live-action would be limited to one day of the week? You just don't acquire/develop expensive programming to have it air once or twice a week.

You just don't acquire/develop expensive programming to have it air once or twice a week.I never thought that live-action would be relegated to one day (although in my opinion it should), but I did expect that all the live-action shows would be airing on one night when they announced CN AMPT.

I guess Symbionic Titan has been in production longer than we thought.Shoot, Survive This comes on next week on YTV. Cartoon Network's getting it in the summer. Sym-Bionic comes on in the fall, tentatively speaking. Animation is a lengthy process. They wouldn't announce anything unless they have a few episodes already in the can.
The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest was in the works for four years before it aired a single episode. But right now, CN's more interested in presenting the live-action fare, and the Spring Break weeks will do that

I was hoping that the live action stuff was going to be bunched together and in one programming block where we don't have to visit but it appears as if they are going to be airing the live action shows throughout the week and eventually they will probably weave in alongside CN's animated shows and be shown throughout the day, which sucks in my opinion. I still plan on avoiding them regardless and keeping my focus on the animation that CN airs, it's the best (and maybe the only) option for those of us who do not want to see live action programming on CN. Like Chdr mentioned, it looks as if HHT will live through the summer, but have we had any news on YAH and weather or not it's going to be killed off yet, or are we still awaiting news pertaining to this? As far as the Nood's are concerned I would have to agree with ECDT, let's just hope that whatever the new bumps end up being that they are as fun and as interesting as the Nood bumps were, if not then besides a few key shows, CN may seriously be in danger of loosing a lot of it's fans who are on this forum. With all that being said, I am actually pretty stoked for the Spring Break on CN to begin and I will be watching the footage with an open eye and an open mind, I do hope that things turn out okay in the end.

I really felt that at one time the Nood's were going to become the face of the network and they were going to give CN a "brand" and make the company as a whole more recognizable, which in a way they have, but CN will still go ahead and flush them anyhow. CN wasted a lot of money on them with the production costs, website upgrades and other Noodish thing's they have done since their inception, it's too bad that CN changes their look as often as they do, people become attatched and then out of nowhere it's gone.

Yeah! there we go, it was originally called Epic Chow for some reason, it had those 2 puppets Jib and Crash for hosts.
I get this information where I hear it, friends, people who work at the advertising department at CN, people who work there, etc.
Most of the info I get are not set in stone though, so I could be wrong sometimes.

Did anybody notice the small footage of the Scooby Doo Movie?
Yeah. Scooby looked fine, but in one of the clips they showed Shaggy, who looked kind of weird. In the same clip they showed some guy standing with Scooby and Shaggy who I'm guessing was Fred, and get this, he didn't even have blonde hair.
There was supposed to be a friday night block with those 2 puppets, I forgot their names. And they would preview upcoming movies.
My memory is foggy because we had a huge debate on this months ago about the new bumpers.
Epic Chow was supposed to for Sunday nights if I'm correct. Epic Chow was announced after the 2008 upfront, which stated they'd be establishing a Sunday night movie franchise. Epic Chow was canned for the Flicks, but I'm pretty sure it was always meant for Sunday nights. It couldn't have been for Friday nights because they also announced at the 2008 upfront (once again, before Epic Chow was announced) that Friday nights would be dedicated to action/adventure shows like Brave and the Bold, Alien Force, Clone Wars and Secret Saturdays (i.e. YAH).

The Friday night fantasy/adventure block was nameless for the longest time, but then Capacity and Kidrobot came around with the Noods campaign. The network ran with it, and it has been a successful chameleon-like one at that, adapted into the entire infrastructure of the network, from the bumps to the Friday fantasy/adventure block to the movies franchise, which is why they got rid of Epic Chow in the first place. Of course, part of the reason for the Noods campaign was to showcase the animated side of the network.
That's not to say it'll go away. Just limited. They can't/won't put live faces on the Noods. Otherwise, it'll look awkward. They're keeping it "real" thus a hybrid campaign of sorts for the summer before deciding on something new in the fall. I hope they stick with Capacity myself, but I was fond of what Animal Logic did with the cityscape design.
And, just for the record, take everything I say with a grain of salt. And despite rumors saying otherwise, I'm not a Cartoon Network spy. Spies don't openly, publicly, and repeatedly criticize the folks they work for while using his real name. Plus, I'm here at Toon Zone, and I love it here. We're independent and proud!
I just pay attention.
This spring break thing gives me hope for summer exclusive bumps again.

Not all summer bumps have to be good. May I bring your attention to the "YES" and the Summer '07 bumps? I remmember back in the Summers of '00 and '01 they had the "Cartoon Cartoon Summer" and they didn't really have special bumps, but those were still probably the most memorable CN summers. The only time Cartoon Network had good summer bumps to me was during the Summer of '05.

Just to clarify, the nood CGI bumpers were originally to be aired between 2008-2009 according to the contract with Capacity.tv and CN. The bumpers won't be kept for very long though.
Although this does not mean they are going to lose the noods all together.

I don't get it. Why do they show this when people are in school and whatnot(I think)? I'm guessing other states have Spring Break around now(I was off a week last month)? :robin:
Anyway, I give up. After seeing the CNReal on Upfront 09, I give up. I always backed up CN when people talked bad about it, but I just can't do it now with this news. CN really improved last year with the Noods and new shows, then downhill it went(with the end of Toonami). I'm neutral from now on.
Don't think I will stop watching CN though. I will still watch Chowder, Flapjack, Star Wars, Batman, old CN shows, and all the new animated shows that the smart people have and will make at CN/WB/etc Studios.

I don't want to open the floodgates but I must say my theory: they're starting to phase out the Cartoon Network name in favor of plain CN, much like the way MTV did in the early 90's.

Okay, I saw the TDA sneak peek from the Spring Break thing.
And...They seem to know seeing the episodes from us already, it looks like, since they just wailed some spoilers, such as the ones who are out, heck, the medical challenge episode, which is the next episode, was even shown a bit, which sorta surprised me.
Also, it looks like that logo will be the US logo, from a standpoint.

I have really been enjoying the CN Spring Break "block" that they have been doing, I like the segments with Chris from TDI and to be honest, the live action stuff isn't as bad as I figured it would be. Most of the live action stuff seems to be game based, I was worried we were going to see a lot of sitcom/tween comedy stuff so I am somewhat pleased as to whats on the horizon. My only fear is that we will see the tweeny comedy shows and Hannah Montanta/Zack & Cody style ripoff's if the current live action stuff becomes a hit, so in a way I still hope it fails badly.
..More live action shows on Cartoon Network. Joy.
Just when it looked like the channel was starting to improve.

It's obvious CN doesn't care about its viewers when it comes to this new content...I remember in one of the Spring Break commercials, Chris said "Just imagine all of the ratings!" Also, one of the lines in the Are You CN This music video mentioned that TDI "topped all the ratings, so all sorts of fine!"
I'm pretty sure CN's demographic could care less about ratings, and more about shows that interest them. CN desire of ratings over quality is the type of mindset that will send the network into a deep(er) hole, I believe.
If the live-action fails and CN's ratings fail, then good, I hope they learn their lesson. If it succeeds, they'll be trapped in their "ratings>quality" mindset and continue to air bad shows which could possibly end with the channel's demise.
Come on CN, make the right decision..

Well, at the rate CN's going, they may as well air all live-actions shows and just call the channel "Network".
Besides, why can't CN use what works for them? Out of Jimmy's Head was a live-action/animation show on CN, and it was terrible. If CN can't create a decent live action show, what makes people think the upcoming live-action will be any better? In fact, what is live-action doing on a Cartoon Network anyways??
Then again, maybe if their live-action shows were cartoons, then it might be OK. But I highly doubt that.
The point is that CN really should just stick to all-cartoon format instead of live action/cartoon format, because it just kills the point of calling it "Cartoon Network". That's all.

The live action stuff has not even aired yet, and isn't there only going to be like 3 or 4 shows anyway? If so, I don't see the need to change the name of the network or get all crazy over the LA stuff coming, besides, most of it looks like game shows anyway or "Survivor" esq reality stuff, so when the season ends I am sure CN will dump it if the ratings stink anyway.

I still think people are misunderstanding what Greg Araya said when he said "regular production". He's not working at Cartoon Network anymore. He's working at Disney on XD. And he didn't seem too happy when he was talking about regular production either. I'm not sure what he meant by regular production, but I don't think it's a series. Though I could be wrong.
