For the record, this Elite Four member does not have any Platinum upgrades. But they do have an additional Pokemon they didn't have in the game.

I thought that this was a fun episode. I really got a good laugh at Officer Jenny actually going into a fangirl mode over Aaron like that. She really was a huge fan of his. I was also surprised to hear that he was actually going to challenge Cynthia. I never thought that he was that strong in the game, but I've also never been too impressed with a lot of Bug types. Of course, the game rules aren't the same as the anime. Anyway, I noticed that most everyone in the stands were girls, which was pretty interesting.
So Ash was thinking that he would win at the champion league and then face off against the Elite Four and possibly become an Elite Four member? Yeah, that sounds cool and all, but I'm not going to hold my breath for that. All I want from the Sinnoh League is Ash finally beating Paul, hopefully with Chimchar or its evolved form. Everything else after that would be a bonus for me.
Anyway, Team Rocket's plan to steal and show off Elite Four Pokemon was kind of weird. Even if they could successfully steal the Pokemon, showing them as Elite Four Pokemon would draw attention to them. It was kind of funny though. It was also nice of Aaron to invite Ash and his friends to his house. It looked really nice with all of those wild Pokemon running around. Ash trying to imitiate Aaron's physical workout training was nice too and he, of course, overdid it.
I did like hearing of how Aaron first caught a Wurmple. It did look really cute with how it helped Aaron out of that tree. It was also really nice that Ash remembered his Butterfree and we even saw an image of when it left with the pink Butterfree. Of course, Team Rocket steals all of the Pokemon with another wind machine. At least that allowed for Aaron to explain more of his past with what happened to his Wurmple. Even though he was young and new to training Pokemon, he did sound really harsh to it. I did like how that explained why he was so into Bug type Pokemon and I thought that it was a more emotional reason than most other trainers with one-type teams we've seen before.
I was glad that the Pokemon crashed the balloon and I was surprised to see that Solarbeam come out of nowhere. I had a feeling that we would see Aaron's Wurmple as a Beautifly since it would be too sad if he didn't get it back at the end. I thought that it was really sweet how it went to train by itself and then came back to Aaron. It was cool how they defeated Team Rocket together, though I didn't like how Piplup, as usual, didn't do a thing until the final battle of the episode.
At least it had a happy ending with Aaron having his Beautifly now and was heading off to face Cynthia. That would be an interesting match to see.
Overall, it was a nice episode. There wasn't a lot of action there, but I thought that it was still enjoyable to see Aaron get his Beautifly and Ash to remember his Butterfree. I'll be looking foreword to the next new episode next week.

I haven't seen animation this bad since Nando's introductory episode. :ack:
Aside from the dip in animation quality this was an alright episode. Its always nice too see a Elite Four member in the show and I'm glad we got a glimpse of Bertha and Flint. Jenny acting like a fangirl was different but a somewhat refreshing change of pace for a otherwise stale character. I wasn’t all that impressed with Aron’s Pokemon. They didn’t really show off much of their power with the exception of the target practice session in the episode’s beginning and they were laid out by Carnivine’s and Seviper’s attacks for longer than my liking. Aron’s childhood memories of Wurmple were cute but it evolving and coming to save the day was predictable.
Nothing really great happened in this episode but I’m hoping we actually get to see that battle between Cynthia and Aron. If they just say Cynthis defeated him I’m going to be a little upset.
Anyway, I'm kind of looking forward to the upcoming gym match. Fantina isn't my favorite gym leader but I want to see if Ash's strategy for her Pokemon's attacks end up working out well.

Cause this ep had the same animation director as the Nando ep.

Well, obviously. :p I'm just saying why do they need to use that animation director if its just for a handful of episodes. I know Pokemon doesn't have the highest animation budget but with the amount of bank the franchise pulls in its strange that they cant afford to at least have consistent animation.

So Ash was thinking that he would win at the champion league and then face off against the Elite Four and possibly become an Elite Four member? [...] Everything else after that would be a bonus for me.
I slept through the episode, so I went to read the Bulbagarden thread. In regards to that dialogue piece, I saw somebody post this...
Satoshi: I hope to win the Champions' League in Sinnoh, and challenge the Elite Four and the Champion Master someday.
Ash: Here's what I wanna do. I wanna battle my way through the champion league, and then become elite master or maybe even become one of the Elite Four.

You know, the more I think about it the more I realize winning a league isn't all that special. Assuming tournaments are held at least once a year there must be dozens or possibly hundreds of kids and teenagers who have achieved victory. There's probably a second league that is held for these winners and then a third league held for Elite Four members and Champions.
I wish the writers would actually make Ash win a few. Its not like him winning would be that big of a deal. I wouldn’t be surprised if a trainer has to win several tournaments to earn the right to challenge even one of the Elite.

He won the Orange Island and Johto championships, right? I don't remember.

He won in the Orange Islands and got in the top 8 (IIRC) in Johto.

Thanks for pointing that out. Ash just wanting to challenge the Elite Four like everyone else does instead of wanting to become an Elite Four member. I still don't think that he'll actually get that far in this league, but it's also a bit too early to say how it will exactly go for Ash in the Sinnoh League too.

Ash did win the Orange Island League, but not the Johto championship. As Tash already mentioned, he was in the top eight in the Johto League. The other championship Ash won in was the Battle Frontier since he got all seven Frontier symbols. So Ash does win tournaments every once in awhile. They're just usually not directly connected to the games like the region leagues are. I know that the Battle Frontier was based off of the event in Emerald, but I'm not sure if that really counts as being as directly connected as much as region leagues are mainly because how Ash battled in the Battle Frontier and how you battle there in the game were radically different from one another.

haha, yeah I got a laugh out of that too. Aaron's pokemon looked pretty good during practice, but I was highly dissopointed when they fought Team Rocket by themselves. What, pokemon aren't as storng with their trainers.... maybe, but I'm sure they wouldn't become that weak. I'm sure Aaron's gonna get crushed by Cynthia. Cynthia is so tough, especially if Garchomp can take like a hundrend hits as still keep going. Aaron's pokemon, I'm not that impressed.
So Ash was thinking that he would win at the champion league and then face off against the Elite Four and possibly become an Elite Four member? I was alittle suprised by this remark. I agree that Ash is definatily going to face in the Sinnoh Championships. Will he actually face the Elite Four, probably. We've been introduced to two of the four now, and we've seen Cynthia on a few occasions. Now, will he actually become a part of the Elite Four? If he doesn, could this be hinting that the series might be coming to an end?
It was also nice of Aaron to invite Ash and his friends to his house. It looked really nice with all of those wild Pokemon running around. Ash trying to imitiate Aaron's physical workout training was nice too and he, of course, overdid it.
You know, I'm a fan of trainers who train themselves (probably because I'm an athlete myself). It just seems that training yourself will show get work ethic and strenght to endure. Like, whens the last time Paul tried one of his own workouts. ;)

Actually I thought that the Wurmple story kind of came out of nowhere. Like, all of a sudden Aaron is confessing that he was a cry baby when he just started out as a trainer. I thought that was just out of left field. but I did think it was cute was Wurmple helped Aaron out when he was younger. And I just knew that we were going to see Wurmple/Beautifly. No suprised there for me, but it was alright.
At least it had a happy ending with Aaron having his Beautifly now and was heading off to face Cynthia. That would be an interesting match to see.

Come on now, let's not be compairing Aaron to Paul.

Actually, you do make an interesting point. Think about it, to get into that Championship Tournament you only have to win 8 matches total. Sure, it's not any 8 matches, but still. I don't think we've actually seen Ash win 10 battles yet, including his 4 Badges (in which one was actually a tie). I agree that there should be higher level tournaments where in ored to win, you need to have a sertin reputation (like, you've won a LOT of matches, and you have experience, ect.). But, it's probably not going to happen. But I do like your idea a lot.

I actually forgot that Aaron's Pokemon were hit by some of Team Rocket's Pokemon. Yeah, that was kind of weird. To be honest, I had a good laugh when they said that Aaron was going to challenge Cynthia for the championship title. I wasn't too impressed with him in the games, even though I know Pokemon can be stronger in the series than they are in the games, and outside of May's Beautifly, I haven't really thought that Bug Pokemon in the series were that strong either. Cynthia definitely has more impressive Pokemon with just her Garchomp and Gastrodon.
Even though we have seen more of the region's Elite Four than any other region, I still don't think that means that Ash is going to challenge them. I'm not saying that I don't like the idea. We definitely would get some really good battles with matches like that. I just took it as the writers using more of the video games' characters to their advantage than they have in the past. Cynthia does have a fairly good amount of importance and appearances in the games as well.
Considering Ash doesn't actually say that he wants to become an Elite Four member someday in the Japanese version, not to mention I think that they're going to keep Ash and Pikachu as long as Pokemon remains successful, I can't see the series ending anytime soon.
You know, I'm a fan of trainers who train themselves (probably because I'm an athlete myself). It just seems that training yourself will show get work ethic and strenght to endure. Like, whens the last time Paul tried one of his own workouts. ;)
That's a good point. It also shows that the trainers who train themselves don't just let their Pokemon do all of the work. The idea of seeing Paul doing one of his own workouts to his Pokemon sounds really cool to me too.
I can see why you would think that came out of nowhere. I think that it was just there to give Aaron a somewhat more interesting backstory and for Ash to have a nice little flashback to his Butterfree. I actually didn't mind that Beautifly coming back was predicitable. I like it when an event I think will happen in a show actually does happen.
My money is on Cynthia.
Nice easy money there. ;) I wanted to say that I didn't think that Aaron had a chance against Cynthia, even with all of his fangirls supporting him, but I wasn't sure if I should since I didn't want to upset anyone who actually did think that he could. I worry about these short of things for some reason.
