Ash, Brock and Dawn continue their adventures through the land of Sinnoh, meeting some brand new Pokémon, rivals, and challenges along the way!
4
Recently:
Ash has been trying to figure out how to beat Fantine and her Hypnosis, but Ash seems to fall asleep while trying to come up with a strategy.
Dawn got to compete against one of her mom’s old friends in the Solestic Town contest, and won her third ribbon.
And Team Galactic unleashed their latest phase of their plans to rule the world, and succeeded, who knows what will happen next.
4
Last Time:
“Double Team Turnover!”
Team Galactic was still in the process of stealing the Lustrous Orb, but amongst all the chaos, Team Rocket actually got away with the Lustrous Orb. But it wasn’t long before Ash, Dawn, Brock, Cynthia, Cyrus, and Team Galactic all found Team Rocket. Cyrus got really pissed off at Team Rocket and told everyone about how the two orbs can summon Palkia and Diagala themselves. But in the end, Team Galactic did get their hands on the Lustrous Orb, and now they have both.
4
This Time:
“If the Scarf Fits, Wear It!”
Saturday, March 21th, @ 9:00am
Ash will now head back to Hearthome City once again for his official match against Fantine. Along the way, they meet up with a breeder. But she has been complaining about a flying pokemon that has been hanging around town at night. Of course, Ash, Dawn, and Brock decide to investigate.
4
Notes:
Hopefully we all got to catch our breaths after that fantastic two part special, “The Charge of Team Galactic”.
Pokemon: The Rise of Darkari will be on next Saturday.
And, like always, reruns are on at 8am weekdays.

For a Pokemon who wouldn't even go back in his/her pokeball, Licklicky certainly obeyed Angie when attacking Team Rocket. lol.

Was the stuff on the paper supposed to kanji or Tajirian? (they look too similar) D:
EDIT: I still say that Lickylicky looks like a gumball.

Not much to say about this episode. It had some funny moments and it was nice that we got to see Angie again. A decent semi-filler.

I think that it had more to do with how Licklicky didn't like being in its Pokeball more than not obeying Angie.
As for the episode, I thought that it was pretty fun. It was really nice seeing Angie again, who still obviously likes Ash. I was kind of surprised that everyone thought that Licklicky was a scarf monster when it was really just wearing a balloon around its neck. I was also surprised that Angie thought that she would be in trouble for evolving that Lickatung. I thought that trainers would be excited to see their Pokemon evolved after being at a breeding center since the main purpose is to train and raise Pokemon while they're left there.
I did think Licklicky was kind of cute though. It was so hilarious how Ash and his friends paniced like Team Rocket usually panics when they see them in their costumes. At least that gave them the time to hide Licklicky. Ash and his friends were really helpful with Angie. I did like how I forgot all about Piplup being out of its ball again until they fought against Team Rocket.
Even though Angie did go overboard with training that Lickatung, I think that was for the best since it was so strong with its different attacks. I was still surprised that her parents were upset with the situaiton. It was really nice for Ash to step in and stand up for Angie. Like I thought, the trainer was thrilled to see his new Lickylicky. You would think most trainers would be thrilled to see their Pokemon evolved after leaving it at a breeding center for awhile. It was really cute how Angie's parents made that comment of how if they got married, they could take over the family business. That was kind of cute.
Overall, it was a nice and fun episode. I liked seeing Angie again since she was a nice character from the School arc and her feelings for Ash are still there. I'll be looking foreword to the next new episode next week.

Am I the only one who thinks these fillers are more bearable when the gang helps out a character we know like Angie, than some random character of the week, who they just meet and will likely never meet again?
The part the end was real funny with the narriator and Angie's parents.
But I wonder in the future is Angie will ever meet Paul, because there is a character triangle, Angie and Conway have meet, Paul and Conway have meet each other, so if they meet, it would complete the character triangle.
Personally I think Angie is a combination of Misty and Gary. Anyway agree of disagree with that thought?

Usually, I've been missing Pokemon, BUT NOT THS TIME!
Yep, saw Pokemon this week this time, of course, you wouldn't think I would miss it, right? I knew Angie was back in this one.
This was really good, and episode that was the good guys be a little crazy for once is awesome, and the ending made me laugh harder than I thought it would!
Hm, did anyone get any vibes of a movie, about the fact that Angie had to inflate Lickylicky, like a baloon?

I actually don't mind fillers where Ash and his friends help out characters of the week or where they help characters we already know. I can understand why people get bored with some of those episodes, but I think that it doesn't matter if Ash already knows the characters he helps out or not. It all comes down to how the episode works out in terms of the story/writing.
I can see where you would see Angie as being similar to Misty, mainly with having a crush on Ash. But I'm not quite sure where you see Gary in her. She's a good trainer and all, but I don't see much of a connection to her and Gary through that.

Angie is kind of tomboyish, its like the writers took the idea started with Anabel and developed it into a new recurring girl character.
I think Angie is more based on Anabel IMO, but since Anabel obviously couldn't return they made a new character instead.

Oh, now I see. That makes sense. However, I didn't think that Gary wasn't really that friendly during his time as being Ash's rival. He cooled down a bit before we saw him at the Johto League, but he still had some of his attitude of thinking he was superior up until he lost to Ash. Granted, not nearly as much of an attitude as he had back in season one, but I felt like it was still there. Ever since the end of the Johto saga, he has been much more friendly with Ash. Now that I think of it, most of Ash's rivals, outside of Paul of course, have been competitive and friendly towards him.

What about Pikachu? ;)
Well, with that said. This episode was ok. I enjoied seeing Angie. At least it wasn't like, 4 seasons down the road and we finally see her again, and then we are all like, "Oh yeah!"
but other than that, this episode was VERY predictible. Like, for example, I knew that the trainer was going to love his newly evolved pokemon. Like, everything just seemed really predictible to me.
So, I'm glad we saw Angie again, and this episode had it's funny part, but nothing that really stood out to me.
Oh, and the ending was Hilarious!!!!! Angie's parents wanting her to marry Ash?! ROFL! That was fantastic. I didn't see that comming.

Which is why I don't like the episodes featuring Angie. That whole Anabel thing was excruciating enough as it was, I don't need to see it in more episodes. Doing it with an original character is the only thing they did right.

Lol, the names people come up with. And one other shipping question: Ash and Anable, the Battle Frontier Brain... the one that had a crush on Ash. What's that one called.
Edit: nevermind, I looked it up, it's Abilityshipping. I like that name better than Morpheushipping, IMO.

Uuuuh, no. IMHO, those Anabel episodes sucked; Anabel had absolutely no reason to crush on Ash (except that Ash is the Marty Stu main character) and since Ash was oblivious, there was no point in it to begin with. What's worst is that Anabel was the lead Frontier Brain in the games and had a calm, dignified personality but is just a weak-willed, lovestruck idiot here. That's why I'm glad we'll never see her again so that the writers of this damn anime don't mess her up even further.

You honestly feel that way Mod?
Anabel's personality seemed the same in those two episodes I saw and her crush wasn't even mentioned until the very end of the second episode. If anything, it's more annoying that it was just thrown in there with no build-up or reason to exist.
I hardly consider that character derailment.

Huh. It's interesting that you say that. I didn't really think that anyone would be that against Anabel. But why do most people fall in love anyways. There has to be some sort of personality trait that Anabel must have liked. Yeah, Ash isn't the smartest, nor the best looking, but perhaps Anabel just liked Ash's determination for his training, and for his pokemon. I thought it was cute, and that they should have expanded on it a little more. That's why it seems really weak, becuase they didn't expand on it, and it seems to be mostly forgoten. I respect your opinion, but I do disagree with it.

She was OK in the first episode I guess, but the second one did have build-up to that annoying crush, it was all over the place. She was basically helping Ash learn how to defeat her. What the hell? And no, her personality in the anime was just the stereotypical nice/helpful kind you get from alot of filler characters in this show. The Pokemon Adventures/Special manga had her more or less how she's supposed to be (in fact, that manga nails alot of the video games' characters much better than the anime does.)
Even worse, of course, was Lucy and her crush on Brock. Wasn't Lucy supposed to be, y'know, creepy and self-absorbed? Not nice and with a fetish for squinty eyes? Now that is undeniable character derailment.

I'm not against Anabel. I'm against Ash/Anabel because it simply doesn't work for the characters/story at all.

MANY trainers are determinned and love their pokemon. What makes Ash any different? Oh wait, that's right, he's the Marty Stu main character. He can have any girl he wants to swoon over him, even a freaking Frontier Brain.
And they should have expanded on it? You're giving this show's writers too much credit, my friend. It was never meant to be expanded on, the fandom just blew it out of proportion (doesn't it always when it comes to shipping?)

Oh yeah, can't forget about that. Now, I thought that this relationship (if you can call it that) was a little more out of place. I thought it was just a little weird, at first, that someone actually likes Brock. But after they threw in the Ash/Anabel thing, then it seemed like the writer were actually attempting at some possible relationships.

Yeah, being the main character is a terrible reason for one to have a crush on Ash, but then why wouldn't it have happen to the other female Gym Leaders. I just thought it was interesting becuase no one has ever had a crush on Ash before. Let's be honest, Misty and May never had any feelings for Ash. And I hardly think Bayleaf counts >_>. This is why it was interesting, becuase no one has had a crush on Ash before. And with Lucy having a Crush on Brock as well, I think that shows that the writers were attempting at trying to give some of the main characters a relationship. It had been 9 seasons (or about 4 years in the pokemon world) without anyone having any feeling for Ash. But I don't know what happened to that. The writers dropped that idea like a hot potato. I felt that little crush had a lot of potential in the future, but since the writers just introduced it then left it for dead, it just seems kind of stupid. I think that if they would have expanded on it, it may have worked out a little better.

I believe there was a girl Ash met during or before the Johto League who had a crush on him. She even made him promise to go out with her if she managed to beat him in battle.
Misty liking Ash is arguable but I personally think she just views him as her best friend and nothing more.

Did you not read what I posted on the Paul opinion thread? I don't want Paul to be nice and I do like the idea of a cruel trainer, I just hate how he's been developed thus far. I dislike the one-note typical nice characters, but I also dislike the one-note stereotypical nasty ones like Paul. He's been the same in the opposite direction is all.
Better development is what I'm expecting of the characters, but alas, I doubt that'll ever happen.

Ok, I understand. And it just seems like to me that the writers are scared of change. Especially changing the charcters themselves. We've only seen a change in the female character every once in awhile, and seems to have been ok, but I don't see why they can't devolop the characters themselves. Ash really hasn't progressed that much over the years. Top 8 in the last two tournaments. And the same goes for the rivals, with the exception of Gary. He has been the onlly one to really have matured a lot since the begining. You're right, it is a shame.

I didn't think Anabel having a crush on Ash was that bad. I thought that it was kind of cute to be honest. I thought that it was kind of interesting how Anabel was helping Ash. We don't usually see that happening among trainers and it wasn't like her helping Ash made the match all that easy anyway.
Even worse, of course, was Lucy and her crush on Brock. Wasn't Lucy supposed to be, y'know, creepy and self-absorbed? Not nice and with a fetish for squinty eyes? Now that is undeniable character derailment.
I actually loved that change. For once, we saw a character who liked Brock, instead of Brock only liking her. Besides that, I liked how she wasn't as self-absorbed as she was in the game. I thought that it made her more likable, but it probably helps that I was annoyed with her when I played the game.

The Gym leaders in the games barely have a personality besides the 3 lines of dialogue they say to you when you challenge them.
You make it seem like the games have this excellent plot and every character is well-defined and deep...but they're not.
The character you play as is a blank slate with no personality, and the Gym leaders barely appear outside their Gyms in the games, with only a few exceptions.
I don't read the manga so I don't know what they do there, but its not like anything we see in the anime is that much different than the games. The writers put their unique spin on the characters because they're supposed to be living, human beings, rather than the 3 lines of dialogue digital things they are in the games.

Ash is kind of obvlious to these short of things, which I thought was kind of funny too. I can understand why you would feel disappointed with how Ash wouldn't find out about Anabel's crush on him. It would have been nice to see if she had said her feelings out loud, but it also would have been kind of weird too.
Good. I didn't. I thought it was pointless and irritating.
I respect that difference of opinion.
Didn't we already have a character or two who liked Brock already?
Before Lucy, I can only remember one girl from the Johto League Champions season where she made it like she wanted to get married to Brock because of a wedding she had seen beforehand. While that was interesting, I kind of preferred Lucy's crush on Brock since she didn't mention any of her feelings for him. I thought that made it more interesting and unique.
And Lucy looks creepy and resides in a Seviper-shaped Pike. Where the hell do you get the idea that she should be nice? I don't see the need for this discussion to turn into a negative one. Just because I don't mind the video game characters being different in the series than they are in the video games shouldn't make you this upset. I'm also not sure why the fact that Lucy looks creepy and resides in that Seviper Pike mean that she can't be nice. I would prefer it if you would not get this upset over such a small discussion. Please calm down. Thank you.
I'm honestly wondering what amount of personality you see in these characters from the games now myself. In all honesty, I don't really think of their personalities when I'm playing the game since I'm just trying to make my team stronger and earn a badge. That's about it really. It's not like you see or hear that much from them in order to see a really well-developed personality.

Nicely said. I agree with you. While the games and series do differ in some areas, I don't really think that they're that different. I do like how the writers give their own take on the characters since that does make them more unique than they are in the games. As for the manga, while it is a bit closer to the games in some aspects, such as trading Pokemon in order to evolve them and such, than the series is, it also provides some changes in the some of the video game characters.

Well, the Gym Leaders and Frontier Brains were standard video game bosses. I know that. What I'm saying is that their few lines of dialogue do set some characteristics for them that any other Pokemon adaptation can develop on. And I think the anime writers usually do this poorly. There's very little to seperate the Gym Leaders from any other trainer. In fact, many of the characters that are made to be "living human beings" just don't feel like it. They just...do things in whatever situation the writer puts them in. Which is whay I'll take the "3 lines of dialogue digital things" over the anime's so-called characters, thankyouverymuch.:p
And as for what I put in bold...blank slate with no personality? Sounds just like Ash to me!
Sorry, couldn't resist.
That's completly true. But for what people have been saying, Lucy in Emerald version must have had a little more personality, but how much personality can one really have in the games.
Actually, Lucy in the games was a character of few words. But those few words, plus the way her servants described her before you face her, gave you the impression that she was every bit as venomous as her pokemon.
Before Lucy, I can only remember one girl from the Johto League Champions season where she made it like she wanted to get married to Brock because of a wedding she had seen beforehand. While that was interesting, I kind of preferred Lucy's crush on Brock since she didn't mention any of her feelings for him. I thought that made it more interesting and unique
Both examples were pretty pointless, but at least "the Heartbreak of Brock" was funny.
*sigh* I'm not trying to be negative. I'm not upset over your opinion, I'm just arguing mine. I don't expect you or anyone else who is in this show's fandom to ever get it. We don't have to discuss this if you're unconfrotable with it. The Angie/Anabel comparrisions have led this thread to places where it probably should not have gone.

When I said that I thought that the discussion was turning negative, I meant more of how I felt like this discussion wasn't being done in a respectful way. I understand that you are arguing your opinion and I understand where you're coming from. Just because I am in this show's fanbase doesn't mean that I don't understand that. I just felt like you were arguing your opinion a bit too harsh when you said
And Lucy looks creepy and resides in a Seviper-shaped Pike. Where the hell do you get the idea that she should be nice?
I think your point would have been more effective if said in nicer/more respectful language than that. While this is the first time I've heard of someone arguing over the personalities in the games and the show, that doesn't mean that I don't understand it. I think that there is a difference between not agreeing with an idea and not understanding it.
I do agree that the Anabel and Angie discussion has caused this thread to go into a discussion that I don't think should have happened. This topic could be interesting if done if a more respectful way, but this is not the place or the thread to do so. I suggest that we do drop this discussion and allow for another else to share their opinion on the original topic of this thread, that being the actual episode.
