Episode 33 - "Three's a Crowd"

Premieres: March 21 at 8:00 AM E/P
Repeats: None

Season 3 continues with another new episode. No synopsis this week. Tune in to find out what it's about! :)

Meet your Autobots:

http://www.transformersanimated.com/img/characters/optimus-prime/optimus-prime-preview.jpg Optimus is the leader of the Autobots that have crashed on Earth. He attended the Autobot academy, but Ultra Magnus made him leader of a salvaging team since he believes Optimus isn't programmed to be a hero.

http://www.transformersanimated.com/img/characters/bumblebee/bumblebee-preview.jpg Bumblebee may be a young bot, but he has speed and is willing to serve. He worries though as he's never been programmed for actual battles.

http://www.transformersanimated.com/img/characters/bulkhead/bulkhead-preview.jpg Bulkhead is strong and ready to bust through must challenges with his strength, but he tends to get stuck on the simplest tasks from being too overaggressive.

http://www.transformersanimated.com/img/characters/ratchet/ratchet-preview.jpg Ratchet is a veteran from the previous war, and he's always ready to assist his friends when they are in danger.

http://www.transformersanimated.com/img/characters/prowl/prowl-preview.jpg Prowl is silent, but he is also deadly. He usually strikes without any warning.

One of the almighty Decepticons that will continue to appear:

http://www.transformersanimated.com/img/characters/megatron/megatron-preview.jpg Megatron is the leader of the Decepticons and is always a force to be ready for, especially when he's studying his enemies techniques and building himself stronger body than ever before.

And, of course, the humans.

http://www.transformersanimated.com/img/characters/sari-sumdac/sari-sumdac-preview.jpg Sari Sumdac is a young girl armed with a key powered by the All Spark. She's decided to help the Autobots train to become heroes.

http://www.transformersanimated.com/img/characters/isaac-sumdac/isaac-sumdac-preview.jpg Isaac Sumdac is the creator of Detroit's robot empire, but he has stolen technology from Megatron to do so. He assists the Autobots when needed, but he worries what they will do if they find out his secret.

http://www.transformersanimated.com/img/characters/captain-fanzone/captain-fanzone-preview.jpg Captain Fanzone is the chief of Detroit's police, but he isn't a fan of robots. He questions what the Autobots true intents are, but he also recognizes they can help him when the situation calls for it.

I actually think the Wasp episode is next week, entitled "Where Is Thy Sting?". "Three's A Crowd" makes me think we might get some Black Arachnia or human villain action though. It's difficult to say though because no synopsis is listed anywhere for this episode.

I think I shall work on getting updated pictures this week as well, at least for Sari. I say that because I'm the one who came up with all the character descriptions in the first place. Of course, I was also doing the episode synopsis for Transformers; Animated before (seasons 1 & 2) because I had permission from Red to do them, which is why I'm a little upset you beat me to the punch this week {Shadow}.

Ah, you're right. The synopsis I posted is for "Where Is Thy Sting?". I'll edit my post. Sorry about that.

Since no one had posted a talkback for last week's episode, I didn't think anyone would bother to post one for this week's, either. That's why I posted this early. You can go ahead and continue doing the rest of the talkbacks if you want, though. It's fine with me. :)

This is the first episode of the series where we don't have any clue what it's about before it airs.

Lol. Dirt Boss = bad news. He can remote control other bots. I sense the Devastator is coming in a few...

Oh yes. Judging by the ending, I would be surprised if we didn't see Devastator soon. Probably Devastator vs the Dinobots judging by their little cameo.

Saaaay, since Dirt Boss is partially made up of the Headmaster unit.... does that mean we've seen the last of the ever annoying Headmaster? One can only hope....

Naw, the Headmaster could build another one. I'm guessing that the Headmaster Unit is where Dirt Boss gets his power to control other robots, though. I actually looked it up to see if Dirt Boss was another of the old Constructicons. Turns out the previous Dirt Boss was a rude, foul-mouthed minicon from Transformers: Energon.

As for Devastator, considering there are only three of these guys including their rather diminutive new "Boss", we'd likely end up with a smaller Devastator or need to recruit some more Constructicons.

If Jetfire and Jetstorm have taught me anything it's that you can have combiners in Animated with just two or three Transformers alone.

Dirt Boss probably gets my vote for the ugliest Transformer I've seen so far. Do like his body controlling drill though.

Love the ending with Lugnut and Ramjet though. At least we know one of the Seekers/Starscream clones is still operational. Now to find out what happened to Blitzwing, Sunstorm, and whatever they call the Female Starscream.

Otherwise, this was your basic breather episode. And I should've suspected as much after Transwarped nearly kept me on the edge of my seat. Still better than the last Constructicon based episode.

I'll have to check this episode out on CN Video on Monday, but shouldn't Sari have an updated profile in the OP?

If Jetfire and Jetstorm have taught me anything it's that you can have combiners in Animated with just two or three Transformers alone.

Y'know, I didn't expect them to actually do any combiners on this show. I mean, one of the things I like about this show is how pared down the cast is. They've just got certain characters who all have very distinct personalities. Usually, having combiners means having four or five characters to construct the bigger robot and very little chance to develop each of them.

I mean, they only have three Dinobots, two Constructicons and one Combaticon (Swindle). And most of the robots that don't belong to bigger sets are pretty easily recognizable (like Wreck-Gar or Blurr).

Dirt Boss probably gets my vote for the ugliest Transformer I've seen so far. Do like his body controlling drill though.

I wonder if they'll actually try to make a transforming toy out of him. It probably wouldn't be easy.

Love the ending with Lugnut and Ramjet though. At least we know one of the Seekers/Starscream clones is still operational. Now to find out what happened to Blitzwing, Sunstorm, and whatever they call the Female Starscream.

So that's who that guy is (note: the Starscream clones may be the one exception to the thing I said above in my first response to this post).

Otherwise, this was your basic breather episode. And I should've suspected as much after Transwarped nearly kept me on the edge of my seat. Still better than the last Constructicon based episode.

Yeah. It gave a little space between events. Next, they'll be following up on Wasp/Waspinator, which is cool (I'm a mark for Beast Wars stuff). I'm actually interested to get back to Sari's situation, myself. The kid's been through a lot lately. She's found out she's half-robot, upgraded herself, went berserk and aged about six years in a day. I wonder how she's holding up (heck, I imagine going from eight years old to being in the middle of puberty would throw anyone for a loop).

Awesome episode with another appearance of a new Constructicon:eek::D,

The highlights:
I love Dr.Sumdac's/Bulkhead's chemistry:p.
Yay,the Constructicons:Scrapper & Mixmaster:D,which they're awesome,which both Tom Kenny & Jeff Bennett did excellent with their personalities.
I'll predict that Headmaster robot head will turn into a new transformer pretty soon, just a thought, but it looks beatup though.
Bulkhead offering the Constructicons a job,that can't be good:sweat:.
Woohoo, another Constructicon who's Dirt Boss:evil:,he's a bit short:p(I thought he would be taller),but his mean, bossy personality is hilarious:p,he's already my favorite:D,Jeff Bennett voices him I think,I remember him back in Transformers:Cybertron in the racing planet episodes who's Override's nemesis.
Dirt Boss's design makes him look like an evil Lagann from Gurren Lagann:D& his mind controlling drill powers are pretty neat.
If Dirt Boss & Megatron were to meet,Megatron will so OWN him in his control, hehehe:p.
They'll bring back a few more Constructicons & Devastator will be here, sweet:p,like the old school G1 days.
Yay,it's Lugnut,I missed you,but his robotic voice is so awesome which is how evil robots would sound like, hehehe:p.
The Autobots just handcuffed Lugnut, awesome teamwork.
Bulkead's little yelling act on Dr.Sumdac made me LOL.
G1 Sludge cameo:D.
Uh-oh,the three Constructicons wanna have all the oil from the city which they wanna charge $40125.44 for 4 gallons of oil & blowing up oil tanks, they're so evil/awesome like Megatron:evil:.
The poor Autobots totally miss Bulkhead.
Poor Ratchet getting squashed by Lugnut, that's gotta hurt:eek:!!!!
Funny with Bulkhead stuck to Mixmaster, hahahaha:D.
Controlled Bulkead vs.The Autobots was pretty neat.
Great that Bulkead used the transport device to get rid of the exploding oil tank along with the three Constructicons, they'll be back.
Yay,its the Dinobots:anime:.
Cool,it's Ramjet(white liar clone),but are you sure he's trustworthy Lugnut on not telling Megatron,hahahahaha:evil::D.
No Sari, but she'll show up in next Saturday's episode which she was awesome in her new Autobot teenage look:D.
I hope to see Blitzwing & the other Starscream clones who's Sunstorm,Thundercracker(blue egomaniac clone),Skywarp(cowardly clone),& Laserwave(sexy female Starscream clone) next Saturday:D.

It was kind of flat to me. It felt like a mix between the 'random Decepticon' episodes of season one and the 'random Allspark bot' episodes of season two. After the excellent Transwarped, I would have hoped we could have moved beyond that.

I think a big part of the episode would come down to how much you care for the Constructions. Whilst I don't hate them, the episode seemed to be all over the place with their characterisation after last season seemed to make it clear they'd chosen the Decepticon side. Them still being mixed could have worked if the plot had been better and not just a painfully obvious way to get Dirt Boss into the story. DB himself wasn't even that good of a character and just seems to be there to eventually form the head of a combiner. I won't start any GL drama.

The Sumdac angle was also odd. Whilst it's great they haven't just forgotten him being held prisoner for a season and the Autobots still being cautious of him, it was awkward that he didn't pick up at all on the idea that Bulkhead was pretending to be a bad guy. Especially that really bizarre scene where he tracks Bulkhead down to the Constructicon hideout just to grovel...bwa?

The resolution was also cheap, reusing the exact same answer to the problem as last week. Tsk.

As is, I think this was a really half formed script that could have used more development to make it work.

Well, I liked it. There was a 90% chance that no regular episode could even do half the awesomeness that is Transwarped. It's a Bulkhead episode but thankfully it's not "Bulkhead is a big klutz that wants to do good, feel sorry for him" episode.

Honestly, with that title I was hoping this was gonna be Blitzwing's comeback, but instead we get a new Constructicon. Oh boy. Weren't they last seen getting buried alive trying to save their booze-I mean oil.

So yeah, alot of fanwanks in this one. Not just the constant Sludge cameos and the 3rd time Sparkplug showed up. There's Dirt Boss' cerebro shells, anyone who seen "Traitor" and/or "The Insecticon Syndrome" from G1 probably know that. And the fact Dirt Boss' design is based off the anime Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, which Derek J Wyatt is a fan of.

The one true good thing I can say Lugnut & Ramjet are still alive and Female Starscream & Blitzwing is probably alive as well.

Here's a really bad animation error...

Remember, Bulkhead is suppose to be with the Constructicons at this point.

I'm not even ask whether or not Prime, Prowl, Bumblebee, & Ratchet were trying to get Lugnut out of the hole or the Constructicons made the fastest crime wave in the history of Detroit.

Grade: B

This episode was not good. It felt very flimsy and a bit lazy.

Let's see the faults:

I never really liked the Contructicons, since they can't really decide between good and evil, and all they also care about is driking oil.

Dirt Boss doesn't make a good impression on me at all.

Where did Lugnut come from? This was like an excuse to put him in this episode.

No mention of Sari. I know she's probably still injured, but Issac mentioning her would at least be nice, unfortunatly, the writers were lazy on this part.

The only goood thing about this episode was that it was a bit funny, like how Bulkhead was threatning Isaac, even though he was only acting.

Hell_Cat summed up my feelings pretty well. I was disappointed the series had not grown past these episodes. I do not mind a funny episode I just wish it was a.) funny b.) not feel like rehash from last season. I sort of lost interest about halfway through the episode.

This was answered in the episode rather early. The said that Professor Sumdac had invented a new device allowing the Autobots to once again detect the Decepticon signals. While Bulkhead was trying to build a new space bridge with Professor Sumdac, the others were pursuing the Decepticon signals, and this episode happened to be the signal of Lugnut.

Yes, but it was sorta random.

Yes, but it was sorta random.

Not really. The previous episode, Transwarped, picked up DIRECTLY after the season 2 finale. From that, there were many Earth based Decepticons unaccounted for. Since Prime's team are officially sanctioned now as the Autobot presence on Earth, it's there duty to find out what happened to the Decepticons who weren't thrown through the space bridge. They just had more pressing threats to deal with in the season opener.

I'd agree it was a bit like earlier episodes, but there was at least a solid reason for hunting him.

I actually liked the parts where Sumdac got confused, and actually thought Bulkhead was genuinely being mean to him. Overall, it was a solid episode. The only thing that confused me was the passage of time. Couldn't tell whether it was one night, or a few days due to those newspaper headlines.

Well, I'll be resuming doing the talkbacks for season 3 of Transformers: Animated this weekend, and I am in the process of getting screen caps from the episodes to use some new character photos, as well as preparing to update some of the character descriptions. I have sneak peeks of the new character photos on my Photobucket page, but since I moved the locations, the links won't work unless I repost them, and I intend to save those surprises for Friday night/ Saturday morning.

Sari and Bumblebee look dramatic, it really wouldn't be fitted, but Bulkhead looks fine.
