Wow. Just Wow. Even though the powerhouse stage faded away, CN brought us something just as good and entertaining and we enjoyed it. That of which was the famous CN City bumpers.

As amusing and enjoyable as they were, CN finally decided to take them out in 2006 which was when the contract of the bumpers ended. CN was stupid enough not to sign another contract with Animal Logic and therefore we do not have anymore city bumpers. Instead, CN decided that they were tired of the city bumpers and decided to aim for a more childish, and rediculous level ........... that's right! Noods.

Oviously a very stupid choice. The only good shows remaining I think are Tom and Jerry, Scooby Doo, Courage and Fosters. I am really disappointed by this completely and would like to reminisce.

What was your favorite city bumper? Which ones do you remember?

Also, I have uploaded over 60 CN City Bumpers on my brand new Youtube channel CNZONE09. Check them out.

My favorite bump would have to be when Ed comes and sees this window and the dog from PPG is nearby. After fooling around a bit, Ed ends up flying into the sky and the dog barks at him. It has pretty funny. :D

I'd do anything to see CN airing them again...

Did that one ever air here in the USA? I remember seeing it in England when I went there in 2007 and I also saw it in Macedonia and Germany in 2007. I think that one only aired in Europe.

My favorites were the early ones (Tom and Jerry, Dexter's Laboratory, Teen Titans). These kind of bumpers had a lot of effort put into them (as apposed to the later newer 2005 ones) and are REALLY hard to find now-a-days but I have tons of them on SVHS and am soon uploading them to Youtube.

For example of an early one, the one where Eustace was at the ATM and couldn't get it to work so he keeps trying to work it and calls it a "stupid automated pedal machine" and the camera pans out to show all the CN characters waiting in line because he is taking so long.

Another one is where Dexter and Dee-Dee are in the car with they're parents and they're waiting for a stoplight to turn green. Dexter keeps saying "She's touching me!" while Dee-Dee keeps replying "No I'm not". As we pan into the car, we see Dexter and Dee-Dee (who is poking Dexter) repeating the same dialog while they're parents have a really pissed look on they're face.

One more I liked, was a bumper played between or before Dexter's Laboratory. It involves Dee-Dee, inside of Dexter's Lab, drawing with chalk on a see-through blackboard that has The Periodic Table of Elements. Dee-Dee continues drawing until Dexter appearantly notices her and offscreen yells "Dee-Dee get out of my laboratory". This bumper is so clever, funny, and very old. This bumper was so old from the others that they used to air it in May 2004 before the city look and they actually used the checkerboard logo on it (later replaced with new one). It was one of the first city bumpers made. A 1/2 second clip of it can be seen on the CN City Offical Bumper and the full version can be seen on my Youtube video "More CN City Bumpers"

One of my favorite city bumps will always be the one where Fred and Daphne from Scooby Doo are in the Mystery Machine and Fred challenges Coop and Jamie from Meags XLR (riding in Megas) to a game of chicken.

Also, the one with Johnny Bravo and Samurai Jack at the local laundromat.

One of my favorite bumps from that era is the one where these 2 dudes are sitting around in their living room, and Blossom, and later, Bubbles and Buttercup fly smack into their porch door because there's an image of Mojo Jojo on their TV screen.

That is a "Made You Look" ad, not a CN City advertisement. That is from 2003. That involves a Live Action segment while CN City is the CGI universe that the cartoons live in.

Yeah, I know all of that. I was there, thanks. But the actual City bumps that I was going to choose were already mentioned by other posters.

But I'm willing to play ball with the nitpickers, so:
The spot in which Prof. Utonium locks his keys in his car.
The spot involving Johnny Bravo and Samurai Jack in the laundromat.
Freddy Jones challenges Coop and Jamie in Megas to a game of chicken in the Mystery machine.

Those bumpers were incredibly fun and creative. I loved how it showed all the cartoons living in one city together... it just seemed so neat and simple, but funny to me.

I miss those bumpers. The noods honestly annoy the crap out of me, they look really ugly in my honest opinion. (When colored with a character, anyway.)

:^: Eh, I personally don't mind the Nood bumps; they're kind of cute to me. They're not as good as the City bumps, I admit, but they're not that bad, at least not to me.

The only CN bumps which I truly disliked were the "YES!" bumps and the "Fall is Just Something that Grownups Invented" bumps. Those truly showed a lack of creativity and imagination.

The "Yes!" one didn't last that long though, and I guess it didn't bother me since that came along around the time of the Billy and Mandy obsession.

But I will agree with the "Fall is just something that grownups invented" bumps... what was the point of showing kids trying too hard to be 'indie' for a network that showed cartoons? That's sad that the band who wasted their time on that song has actual potential. ):

I totally agree. The "YES!" bumpers looked like they were made it like a minute and "Fall is Something that Grownups Invented" was a disgrace, it had nothing to do with cartoons.

Actually, The Hives had their day in the sun with "Hate To Say I Told You So". All they've done since then is blow their indie cred on mediocre, overproduced albums and, of course, this.

Seriously, CN could have had access to Muse, Shinedown, Linkin Park, Armor For Sleep, The Used, My Chemical Romance, R.E.M., and whoever else is signed to Warner Bros. Records or its affiliates like Sire and Reprise if they wanted any kind of rock cred, plus there at least WAS the entire Ninja Tune library. There are so many better artists at CN's disposal other than a one-hit wonder.

I thought the City bumpers were alright they weren't really my favorite. I knew bumps like these wouldn't last long since they looked pretty expensive and they had to make new ones for each new series they made.
A lot of these bumps I saw for the first time were in Japanese. It's always cool to hear how the characters sound in that language.

If I recall....we're actually allowed to link to Youtube if they're just bumpers.

now I understand, I think the reason they "suposedly" stoped cartoon network originals it's because of they changed their staff and bosses at the studios, but I think they should reconsider about bringing back cartoon network originals, by the way ¿when did they started to show nood bumpers?

I'm not going to say anything about the Noods because that's your personal opinion. But you might want to do a little bit of research before you go on a rant. Cartoon Network hasn't stopped making originals. They're still producing Chowder, Flapjack and Ben 10 Alien Force, and are well into production on a new show called Adventure Time and a new shorts program called Cartoonstitute. They've also recently started production on a new action show and The Secret Saturdays is also a Cartoon Network Original, but it's not produced by the studio itself. While I really liked Cartoon Cartoon Fridays and the whole Cartoon Cartoon brand CN did and wished they didn't let it go, I just want to say that Cartoon Cartoons were just a name that unified the originals; the quality of the actual show was never affected, and calling a show a "Cartoon Cartoon" doesn't make it any better. Oh, and the shows Cartoon Network is getting from Canada are nothing new. Remember Atomic Betty? It aired frequently throughout the City era that you like so much. These Canadian shows are just acquisitions, and Cartoon Network has been getting acquisitions forever, whether from Canada or Japan or Warner Bros Animation.
On topic, I really liked the City bumps. I'm not nearly as nostalgic about them as I am about the Powerhouse bumps, which I found to be better, but they were definitely second place. There were so many good bumps, but my favorite one would probably have to be the one that showed the plastic bag being blown by the wind through the entire city, with various characters moving it along while going about their routine. I liked it because it really showed in one bump how large of a variety of cartoons Cartoon Network had to offer.

Because then you would know that Cartoon Network went through several types of bumpers, before settling on the current Noods, which came as a part of the new Sydner regime.

Sorry, friend, but that's not accurate. At all. CN never stopped airing Cartoon Network originals. Ben 10: Alien Force, Chowder, The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack, Tranformers Animated, they're all CN originals. As were Squirrel Boy, Camp Lazlo, My Gym Partner's a Monkey and Class of 3000. Just because CN stoppped using the name "Cartoon-Cartoon", that doesn't make these shows any less original. Also, CN was acquiring Canadian shows long before Total Drama Island and 6Teen, and they never aired acquisitions to the exclusion of their original programming.

I thought that Flapjack and Chowder were taken from Canada!?! Ben 10 Alien Force I can understand IS DEFINITELY a CN Original so I am sorry and same goes for Transformers Animated which they for some reason air in the time slot they should be airing Time Squad or Dexter in, but its alright CN wouldnt anyway.

As for the Gym Partner, Camp Lazlo, and Squirrel Boy, those were all made prior to 2006, or at least before the city look ended.

Also, I am sorry, Camp Lazlo IS considered a "Cartoon Cartoon" seeing in the UK they now air it as part of their 2-hour "Cartoon Cartoons" block every night.

Camp Lazlo isn't a Cartoon Cartoon. The "Cartoon Cartoon" name was officially dropped in 2003; Codename: Kids Next Door was the last Cartoon Cartoon (well, you could say that Billy & Mandy and Evil Con Carne were, but they were just expansions upon Grim & Evil). Plenty of non-Cartoon Cartoons have aired on the Cartoon Cartoon block, but they're not Cartoon Cartoons. They're just CN Originals.

There's no need to apologize, but I must point out that Camp Lazlo is not technically a Cartoon-Cartoon, since CN retired that term back in 2003, two years before Camp Lazlo's debut. Lazlo is technically a Cartoon Network original series. But hey, why quibble over terms? Cartoon-Cartoons, CN Originals. Six of one, half a dozen of the other. Camp Lazlo was an original series that was specifically created to air on Cartoon Network. We can at least agree on that.

Wow. I'm looking at more on the internet and I can't believe they did one for all of these. They even got some for Ben 10, I thought he came on after the City era.
It's a shame, but one I think I like about the Nood bumps that the City never had was feature bumps with acquired show characters walking around. Sure they got featured in magazines on racks but that's not the same. In fact, anime characters were never in any bumps with original animation, except Speed Racer.

Ugh! Sorry, my Youtube account was deleted by CN but I was going to upload some of those early city bumps I mentioned earlier on.

Like the 2 Stupid Dogs city bumpers and Time Squad ones. These were done very well and even looked more CGI and went into more detail than some of the later ones. The problem was these were rarely aired, except when Time Squad used to air at 5:00am and Friday nights around 3:30am when Evil Con Carne aired did the 2 Stupid Dogs ones air. I know, I don't know either why they made a few 2 Stupid Dogs ones, but believe it or not, there were about 3 Cow and Chicken ones made. These bumpers were early city bumpers from June 2004 and were really hard to find on CN after around September 2005 when Animal Logic made newer ones.

Same goes for Scooby Doo, one of CNs most overplayed shows, I searched like hell trying to find Scooby Doo ones because they never used them! When Scooby Doo aired they would usually use the Mystery Machine and the Ghost Pirate bumper! There were originally about 20 Scooby bumps and they kept playing the same 2 over and over again in 2005. I am guessing CN doesnt really map these things out very well.

Also I apologize, Noods were followed by some other bumpers that I dont know of. After the City look ended, CN was barely an interest to me, I remember some YES! bumpers but thats it. I have no idea what the 2007-2008 bumpers were. But I am glad I don't because I keep hearing this Fall stuff that I really dont want to know about.

I have a theory. Haven't you noticed those bumper uploaders have other non-bumper videos on the channel? Like Gamemastersuperstar; he has video game videos on his channel. Even me, (Avatar1397; I uploaded the wave and SS bumps) my channel didn't get suspended because I had other non-bumper videos.

I could be wrong, but that's just a theory.
Well I suppose, I could make a few videos that are irrelevant to CN bumpers so I will try that out thanks!

Those were the "YES!" bumps, and yeah, they were pretty bad. Very unimaginative and mercifully short lived.

I used to love these, they had a charm and vibe to them that the newer stuff just lacks.
I vaguely remember one with Raven hosting a talkshow, I think their was at least 2 of them but I only saw them once.

I found this one for Robotboy which came as a surprise both in content and "I don't remember seeing this" factor.:D

Hey guys! FostersFriend here.

Glad to see you guys are enjoying the bumps from my YT channel. Most of the bumpers I collected (I have over 60) are all from the City era, and from Cartoon Network South Africa provided by CN Europe though.

So the bumpers like RobotBoy and the toons playing soccer were mostly after CN stopped airing them in the US, but it seems Animal Logic continued making them for CN Internationally! :anime:

just remember guys: if they did bring back the old Cartoon network you would get bored of it eventually and want some new themes that is why these TV shows upgrade so if you stopped them well you would think the old theme of it would get boring right? (i really hated that Fall theme anyway it kinda sucked -.-) but anyway this is the future now so don't make any wishes or anything cause they will continue to upgrade CN (if they could at least call the Logo "Cartoon network" again though =P)

I love the city bumpers, they are the best look CN had since the mid 90's checkerboard era. They could be used forever cause there are so many and you never get bored and they are made so good and realistic.

But today my Cartoon Network (EMEA - Europe,Middle East & Africa) changed their look and it looks like there will be no more city bumpers.:eek::ack:
This new look they have is terrible, they play the same bumper all day long with the CN logo exploding and some arrow appearing on the screen, balloons and other stuff I can't see. It's the same thing all day.
Also the up next bumpers appear during the ending credits with the arrow and a small window.

I thought CN Europe would adopt the same look CN US has but this is something different and utterly boring and terrible.

The City bumps were really expensive to produce, since they had to incorporate all of those separate characters and drawing styles, as well as using the actual voice actors for the characters, not to mention the rotoscoping that the ads utilized. I loved the City bumps as well, but I knew that CN wasn't going to be doing them for very long.

As much as I adore the City promos, I pretty much see why they stopped them. There was so much work put into them and probably so much funding that it wasn't worth it after a while.

It was still pretty sweet seeing major characters being pretty much in the same universe as one another which, as a kid, I always wondered how that would happen. And the amount of detail you could find in even one small bumper before one show was really cool, especially if you're a hardcore 'toon fan.

There were never any of the city bumpers with characters from Code Lyoko, were there?

Here are a couple of ideas for more "modern" ones:

Dexter, Jeremie (from Code Lyoko), Carl (From Johnny Bravo) and Harold (from Total Drama Island) entering a electronics store, all wanting to get the last of some sort of part or something, and having a huge argument. Meanwhile, Cheese (from Foster's) walks in, grabs the item, buys it, squeals for joy, and eats it, leaving the four arguers dumbfounded.

This one isn't really detailed, but basically Billy from Grim Adventures, Jude from 6teen, and Ed from Ed Edd n Eddy having a mindless conversation on a bus or something.

The City bumpers only included characters owned by Cartoon Network (or Time Warner, the parent company). The only time characters from acquired shows appeared were on posters seen in the background.

Well not HD widescreen, I had DIRECTV at that time which carried a very HQ broadcast of CN. So this is the formula basically

HQ CN Broadcast + Component DVD Recorder = 720p DVDs w/ HQ broadcasts

They don't have to be widescreen. They are full screen. I can make it widescreen though if needed.

Yes. I have a lot of the Coming Up Next ones for Code Lyoko. There might be a poster one. If so, I will definitly have it. I have 120 tapes and 90 DVDs of CN City daily broadcasts.

Also, try to think more positive.:) Johnny Test ones did exist. I have 8 from CN UK. These were kind of like one of the last type of city bumpers made for a show because these aired a few months prior to the city bumpers being taken off air.

Like for example, There is one where Johnny and the dog (forgot his name) are inside a teleportation device inside the twin sisters laboratory and the twins pull a lever and Johnny and the dog end up in Dexter's laboratory where they are confronted by Dexter.

I've also heard something about a bumper similar to the (awesome) bumper with Fred from Scooby-Doo challenging Coop and Jamie from Megas XLR, but with Batman instead of Coop and Jamie. Does said bumper exist?
No. Doubt it. Batman only appeared in Justice League bumpers and one bumper where he scares Shaggy and Scooby.

I'd say a montage of several "now, next" bumpers, and the Johnny Test ones.

Just to confirm, this is the bumper where Aku tries to get into a children's movie using a fake student ID and two kids behind him (from The Powerpuff Girl's school) are making fun of him, making him infuriated? If so, I have it. I need to find the tape and will upload.

I've actually seen a clip of Doreamon. He himself doesn't appear in it, just a illuminated neon sign with him on it.

Speaking of foreign bumps, here's the classic one where Professor gets locked out of his car.

Alright, listen up, I am looking for some city bumpers and regular bumpers. I am on a search, if someone has one, I will put up 30 bumpers (powerhouse or city) of your choice.

(by the way, I have a lot of rare "Coming Up Next" powerhouse bumps not on the CN Powerhouse Archive website)

City

Christmas Bumper: Billy trying to warm his hands by some TVs (in a TV shop) that are displaying burning firewood. We see Mandy and Grim standing behind him as Grim questions Billy's nonsense by asking "Should we tell him?" and Mandy replies "Nah, It's Christmas"
Ed, Edd, n' Eddy: The Eds are walking along the cul-de-sac until Eddy asks Double D "Do you get the feeling something just isn't right?". We see the Ed's backs as they are walking only to see that their shadows are switched.
Squirrel Boy: Andy's dad comes outside to retrieve the newspaper until he yawns for a small while and closes his eyes. Once he finishes stretching, he notices the newpaper is gone. We then see Rodney in the kitchen reading the paper with the CN logo.
City Bumper: Ray (Juniper Lee) is in the Cul-De-Sac practing karate. We see him about to chop Plank in half until Johnny notices him and screams "No" with a vibrating echo. Johnny then pushes Ray out of the way.
Powerhouse

Right before the city bumpers, there was a series of ads that made me crack up. These ads were a series of clips from CN shows replayed over and over again to promote CN. They were kind of like a knock off of "Screwy Ain't It?" ads. These were shown in the era of "Last Bell Marathons" and "Don't Go Back to School Day". The ad I am looking for is one where Eddy is getting popcorn and repeatedly asks the question "What Am I the Popcorn Fairy?". The clip was from "Little Blue Ed".

I seriously think they would be able to turn these bumps into an actual show.

Here's a few more "modern" bumper ideas:

Susan and Mary Test are seen working on Megas, were they finish, and Coop can be seen, anxious, where he then sees the completed work, jumping with joy over how they installed a Megaslush machine into Megas.

This one would be like the Megas VS Mystery Machine one: Fred pulls up next to the Batmobile at a red light, where he uses the same dialogue as the Megas one, but after the first sentence, Batman glares at him and speeds off, leaving Fred dumbfounded.

Heather and Ron the Rent-A-Cop are seen walking on the sidewalk, where the KND are up above, and drop a large water balloon on them, freaking out Heather, and making Ron yell "I'LL GET YOU PUNKS!!"

Dexter, Harold, Jeremie, and Carl (from Johnny Bravo) are seen in an electronics store, where all four of them are after the last of some electronic item of some sort. They begin having a huge argument, and while having the argument, Cheese comes in, picks up the item, pays for it, squeals "YAY!", and eats it, leaving the four arguers dumbfounded and embarrassed, in which Darth (from 6teen) passes by and laughs at them.

Cheese is seen at the video store from 6teen, along with some other random CN characters. He goes to buy a movie, in which Wayne starts criticizing Cheese on his choice, telling him he's not worthy to get the movie. Cheese begins freaking out (think like the Fosters Episode Mac Daddy, when Bloo would take away the chocolate milk), and Wayne tries to get him to shut up, but nothing will work.

Jude, Chowder, Ed, Billy, Lindsay, Cheese, and Nicolas (Code Lyoko) on a bus or something, just having some sort of mindless, random conversation, while Dexter stares at them in confusion.

Sissi and Heather having an argument about something, then the KND drop another large water balloon on them from above, and Gwen passes by and laughs at them.

I've got a lot more ideas..

Hey yossi, are you gonna post more city bumps soon? I really want to see those Johnny Test ones!

And I have a question for anyone to answer: What were the bumpers like that was post-city but was a revival of the city look? Wikipedia calls it, "the 2006-2007 campaign... reprise of the 2004 CGI City look using flat, dark colors." If anyone has a video of it or can describe to me what they were like, please answer.

All of the city characters were in this 3D CGI colorful animated place, that took place from april-early september, way different from the city look, but acceptable.

I remember some of those, they aired at the very tail end of the Powerhouse Era alongside the other bumps. They were sort of a "precursor" to the City bumps, probably quick place holder bumps while Animal Logic produced the City bumps, which probably took some time and money to make. I don't care for them too much, but it's kind of cool to see how shows like The Flintstones or Jetsons' worlds might've looked like in the Cartoon Network City, although these ones weren't as good quality as the City ones.

Monroe trying to catch a frisbee, and ends up landing near Velma and Mandy on a beach blanket and says "Ladies, got any suntan lotion? I can always fetch some more!".

Billy and Mandy using Grim's head as a ball and tosses him back and forth until he says "See, this is why I don't come here anymore".

A Poster that says "Last Day of Summer" crumbled up on the ground of the CN City Park.

I didn't like the city bumpers at first, but looking at them now they were definitely better than what the network is doing now, and plus even though they got rid of the classics they still only showed cartoons.

My favorite one would have to be the one where Prof. Utonium locked himself out of his car, and Dexter mocks him.

Also, Theres accidentally Scooby Doo, Cartoon Theater, and CN City bumpers in there because the video editor included them in there when it should not have. I was trying to piece together another CN Latin America Bumper collection using only the ones with Latin voices.

On the other hand, Total Drama Island does unfortunatly not have a Now/Next symbol. The Now/Next bumper with the police car is the one played during TDI. As you can see, they put a star there instead (as it means various and its played for shows without symbols like Bugs and Daffy, Cow and Chicken, etc..). Sorry!

I've got an example of the city era "Next" bumper played during the closing credits of a show during the city era in the UK.

IS there any way I can watch other contries CN's in the USA. Is there some sort of Sattleite Provider that carries worldwide networks? (just curious, doubt my parents would switch to sattillite just so I can watch anothor countries cartoon network) But still when im on my own someday I would love to have a GOOD CN to watch! )

I think your only option would be to get a Dreambox, like Yossi has.

Did they ever release any of the instrumental music used in the "Now/Then" bumpers, besides the Summer 05 tune? I'm mainly looking for the one in the second one in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=86AOglVKSAs&feature=channel_page

Yeah, those are USA.

Does anyone else have more of those types of Now/Then bumpers with characters saying what's on now and what's next, or just Now/Then City bumpers from the USA in general?

A couple more city bumpers from Latin America, including a Samurai Jack one that I think might be rare... I remember seeing it on TV.

And a Now/Then bumper with a new and AWFUL announcer. He sounds like he's extremely tired.
The older one sounded better...

Anyone have city bumpers from CN France and/or more American Now/Then bumpers?

That Samurai Jack bumper is ONE OF THE MOST OVERPLAYED bumpers from CN USA. Plus, its already posted on my channel I think. If not, then I ENSURE you that I have over 30 copies and will post one.

A couple of bumpers I recorded today right here. These aren't really "city" bumpers, but rather the characters against live-action.

Those remind me of bumpers Like these from CN USA in the early 2000's. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EkbdAKna3EU&feature=related)

I seem to recall a Now/Then bumper with an underwater background from the city era.. Anyone know if it existed?

No, that bumper was used after Miguzi. It went from the underwater world of Miguzi, down through a pipe, and up into CN City. I have this bumper over 20 times because it was aired every weekday.

If I recall correctly, it was just one of the Now/Then bumpers with an underwater background.

Does anyone have more of the Now/Then bumpers with CN characters doing the announcing instead of Nikki?

I heard of one with Billy (from Grim Adventures) announcing one for Code Lyoko and Mucha Lucha.. Thats one that'd be hilarious to hear. Anyone have that one?

I find it strange how they no longer air Totally Spies. They seem to still have the rights, and there's tons of episodes to air.

That's not why they ended Foster's! The show ended long before Craig McCracken left.

I don't think that Dudley was being mean. He was just explaining that Cartoon Network didn't cancel Foster's because Craig left. He was still at the network when they were working on those last episodes of Foster's.

As for why they're airing Fosters early in the day, it isn't that surprising considering that they aren't making new episodes of Fosters anymore. They could have given it an afternoon slot if they wanted to, but they apparently wanted to put it on in the late-morning. It was their choice to make.
