I was looking at CN's schedule for today and noticed that they'll be airing Wakko's Wish at 10am. So...how come they have the rights to Wakko's Wish but not the show itself. It seems kinda odd.
Wakko's Wish isn't part of the show. For rights purposes, it's a standalone movie.

It's no longer airing (see CartoonNetwork.com's TV schedule page), they have replaced it with "Scooby-Doo Meets the Boo Brothers".

Who said they didn't have the rights?
Just because it doesn't air, that doesn't mean they don't own the rights to the show.

They used to air Animaniacs on CN back in the day...
I miss that show.

In general that's a shame that they were thinking of airing the movie at such an early hour. 10 am!? Why not just put it on with The Flicks if they're gonna air it?

They try to avoid un new DTV's on the Flicks and besides theve aired movies at 10am for years.

I remember Toon Disney playing a few Pokemon movies a while back, but they don't have the rights to play the series.

Cause the show is old I'm suprised Disney hasn't scooped up this treasure and Tiny Toons for Disney XD cause they already have Pinky and the Brain.

I actually don't remember CN airing Animaniacs outside of this movie. I remember that it aired on Nick a few years ago, but I don't recall it being on this channel.

CN certainly did air Animaniacs back in the Powerhouse days. I actually remember the bumpers quite well.

I've noticed that they only air Pinky and the Brain during the after hours. So maybe that's why.

^Just mentioning again that I'm 150% positive that Animaniacs aired on Cartoon Network before it aired on Nick.
This isnt even up for debate. Animaniacs did air on CN.

Yes, it did. Animaniacs aired on Cartoon Network from 1998 to 2000. I used to watch A! on CN, and I remember the bumps.

I know that it aired, but do you know how long it lasted? I don't remember them being on for that long.
EDIT: Silverstar posted the same time I did, so never mind

:^: I just posted that. It ran on CN from '98-'00. So it was 2 years.

From the schedules I've looked at, Animaniacs was actually on until 2001.
I occasionally watched the Nick repeats, but they weren't a big draw since I strongly disliked their scrambled-up intro with the Nickelodeon logo put in everywhere, and still feel the same. Pre-Kids WB!, I got my kicks of A! from CN.

I'm not sure that Animaniacs started airing on CN in 1998. The series was still airing first-run episodes on Kids WB at the time.

Additionally, I don't even think Cn or Nick even aired all the episodes.

I don't think anyone was meaning to start a debate on this. I was just saying that I don't remember Animaniacs ever airing on CN, not that it never aired at all. Considering that it was apparently on for a good couple of years, I'm surprise that I remember it airing on Nick more than I do airing on this channel. Maybe I was more interested in Nick's programming than CN's at the time or I simply don't remember it at the moment. I remember Freakzoid airing on CN, but not Animaniacs for some reason.

They definitely didn't. For some reason CN didn't air any of the shows with Pinky & the Brain shorts in them, except for "Don't Tread on Us". And many of the post season 1 shows were also not shown on CN. Nick aired even fewer shows.

One thing I remember is that as part of the promotion for Animaniacs coming to CN back in the late 90s, they added a brief clip of the Warners running past whatever cartoon they were airing, with a brief theme jingo playing over. I remember taping some "2 Stupid Dogs" from the CN airing and one of the Secret Squirrel segments had this.

Didn't the show end in 1998 though? Wasn't that Star Wars episode in late `98 like the final one?

It was actually the final episode of Pinky and the Brain (Freakazoid cameo included). ;)

Despite "Star Warners" being the final episode of Pinky & the Brain , it premiered the same day as the final Animaniacs episode ("The Scoring Session/The Animaniacs Suite", which was also a fitting ending) as a special send-off.
So yeah, Animaniacs ended on November 14, 1998.

Isn't Wakko's Wish technically the finale since it was the last thing they did with these characters?

It's counted as a movie instead of an extended episode, hence why CN can air it and (as far as we know) not the series itself.
I mean, it counts in that it's the final animated production to date, it wraps up all the character plotlines, and that it can be called a "special 100th episode", but it's not technically part of the show.

Obviously, but it's still a finale in the sense that its the characters farewell.

Interesting story---when I was younger I always thought that was a gimmick for a sweepstakes---("when the Warners walk across the screen during a programme, note the time and date you saw it and mail it to CN to win a prize"), but it turns out it was just a primitive form of during-the-show advertisement.
