Eh, I read about it in a magazine, but it doesn't look like my kind of anime for some reason. But the promos for it were pretty good.

On the commercial, they put all the critical praise from some of the top newspapers at the bottom. Hearing rave reviews from The Chicago Tribune and other respected publications is usually a good thing. But when they are reviewing something like anime or videogames I always try to take it with a grain of salt (where ever that expression came from). I don't know, I just find it hard to trust the really mainstream publications for reviews on this kind of stuff. But, I do think this looks really great.

Now HERE'S an "adult" program for Adult Swim. The only problem is that Jin-Roh is about 2 hours long. It'd be great if AS would start showing movies, though. After all, if Toonami used to give up a day evey week to show a movie, AS could do it every month or two.

Jin-Roh's a great movie, I didn't see the commercial, but I'm happy they're advertising it here. Clever move. It probably won't appeal to most anime fans because it's not very anime-ish (kind of like Perfect Blue, only moreso). It's much more talky and intelligent- like a good mystery/psychological case study. It might not appeal to anime fans, but it will to film fans. If that makes any sense. I saw it in the theater though, so it's been awhile.

It's very bleak and political, but I'd try to rent it first. It's a good movie, like said earlier, but not for everyone.

Um...I live in the third circle of hell, we just got princess mononoke at the blockbuster, so if I EVER want to see Jin-Roh, I have to buy it. I personally liked Perfect Blue, it reminded me a lot of Hitchcock films. I like both films and anime, so would you say its a pretty safe purchase for me?

The Jin-Roh commercial completely took me by surprise. At first I thought it was actuall a theatrical trailer for it, and I was like, "Wha?" But actually, it's great to see anime like Jin-Roh getting a bit of tv exposure. Kudos to Best Buy.

Well, the story was written by Mamoru Oshii (Ghost in the Shell), so it gets pretty into the political stuff. It's kind of a mix of psychology, romance and politics.

the Jin Roh commercial took me by surprise too...
I was pissed as hell that I missed the opportunity to go into NYC to see it in theaters, but oh, well...
DVD will have to do...

I saw Jin-Roh in the theaters, and this movie could have been a lot better. Mamoru Oshii, who also did Ghost In The Shell, likes to deal with political factions to set the stage for his stories. Visually, Jin-Roh was great. I liked the character design quite a bit. The animation is top-notch, but it looks like the whole movie was rotoscoped. This is not an anime masterpiece, because it lacks charcter depth. The characters' motivations are never actually clear, and it almost seems that the non-development of the characters is the whole point. Worth a rent. Grade: C

The Chicago Tribune has been famous for giving good reviews and/or word about anime. Any advertisement preaching any other snippet from any other paper or TV reviewer pretty much gets discounted, IMO.

Roger Ebert has always been a good anime fan to have around. Of course he's not a full-blown otaku in any sense of the word, but he always has something amazing at his festivals(ie. 50mm print of Grave of the Fireflies).

Otherwise, all anime always gets over-analyzed so any reviews are pretty much USELESS, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

BTW, there's a 3 disc edition, too much stuff to see.......

....and Blockbuster seems to be excercising their right to NOT carry this title, for some reason. They carry 'X', they carry 'Blood', but they seem to have something against Jin-Roh. Maybe they should try watching their stuff before they decide what to carry and what not to.
