Wow, not bad at all. I thought Spike's voice would bother me since I was used to the Roger Smith tone, but it works for me. One of the best moments was the closeup at the first bar of the "pregnant" woman.
I have two questions:
1. What was that red stuff the guy put into his eye suppose to do??
2. Will there be a thread for posting our reviews for all of the Adult Swim shows tonight?

Your gonna love it. it only gets better by episode.
to answer your question:Red Eye hightens your senses and reactions. thats why he was able to dodge bullets in that bar fight

Ah, a young man's first time at Bebop. Like Spooch said, it only gets better from here. Try getting the DVDs if you can.

Are there any extras?

Yeah, this is honestly one of the weaker episodes. Well, of course -- it's just the beginning! It starts getting all-out freakin' AMAZING at the 5th episode, "Ballad of Fallen Angels." Next week's episode, "Stray Dog Strut," is pretty lighthearted and funny.
The DVDs are so expensive, man! And the boxed set is barely any discount, if any at all... They DO all have 5 or 6 episodes, which is really packed. It's my bet that there are few extras.
(I wonder how much they could fit on DVDs if they only had one language?)

Yeah, there's extras. Not a lot, but each DVD is different (I got the box set for my birthday and I haven't looked through all of them just yet..)
Get the DVDs. They're yummy.

Extras - there's a series of short interviews, one music video, non credit opening theme and closing theme, and a couple of image galleries. That's about it. If you buy the box set, it also includes the first soundtrack, which is a pretty cool extra, too. :)

Hum,I happen to like David Lucas's voice over work.He did a good job doing Spike I say.

I'm not complaining about the voice work. I was just so used to his Roger Smith tone that I thought it would bother me here. But since Spike and Roger are two completely different characters, it works for me.

The $200 box set is a ripoff. Its $20 more than buying the DVDs one by one at retail price. It contains a CD, but if you're just looking for the series, if you look hard enough you should be able to find each DVD for $20, 6 DVDs, adds up to $120. Not a bad deal, as you get TWO music videos (each for different versions of the opening theme), creditless ending (you don't need a clean opening, as all the text is on the side not disrupting the picture), many interviews, character introductions, and image galleries. Overall, a great deal for a great anime series.

My parents insist they didn't pay 200 bucks for the box set.. I think they got it off Amazon or something, I dunno. *shrug*
I almost think the CD makes it worth it, 'cos it's hard to find non-bootleg copies. Being one who refuses to purchase anything SonMay or EverAnime, reasonably-priced CDs are not easy for me to find anyway.
I've lost what I was trying to say. Ah well.

Yeah, it's $160 on Amazon. But buyer beware! I got mine from Amazon and when I opened it there was a giant rip down the front of the box. I tried to contact them about returning it, but they said "well, it's already opened" so I couldn't return it. Everything worked ok, but part of buying a box set is that the box looks cool. Just my luck I guess...

I never buy Anime on DVD, now matter how much I love it. I'm not anti-economy or anything, and I like the work that Bandai does with anime, but they are asking a bit much. I bought one Cowboy Bebop Tape (as tapes are cheaper than DVDs) and i got 2 episodes for $14. Talk about a good deal! If they just toned down the price they would find more people buying from them. Honestly, with $200 I could get a GeForce 4, the best graphics card out right now (actually, thats what I'm doing). There was a joke once that wen tsomething like this: "Being an otaku is more expensive than being a crack addict" and it's true.

Actually, Agent MaxX, because Bandai puts two episode per VHS tape while they put 4-5 episodes per DVD, buying the DVDs is ultimately cheaper (for Cowboy Bebop, anyway). $20 per disk, 6 disks==$120; $14 dollars per tape, 13 tapes==$182. Heck, you can buy the limited edition box set for $160, and it includes a CD. ;)

hm. still, its quite a bit of money. Especially with animes that are longer than 26 episodes, such as Gundam Wing, with 52 episodes or something.

I've seen the box set online for as little as $130, but even still, that's just a lot of money. The Simpsons Season 2 set just went up for preorder on Cdnow and it's $34.99! That's 24 or so episodes on four discs. Even if it were six discs, it wouldn't have gone above sixty. Anime DVDs are just too freaking pricey. And don't even get me started on VHS. Two episodes per tape? TWO?!?!?!? I'll probably get Bebop at some point, but not until I can find a decent used price. At least I now have them all taped (I even had a premonition and set to tape the Thursday night they showed Cowboy Funk, even though I was positive they wouldn't. Woohoo!!)

It's the economics of scale. The Simpsons set is bound to sell more than probably most anime discs (even the most popular). So it can be cheaper since it's a guaranteed best seller.
Two places to check for word of good deals on anime are the forums for these two sites:
http://www.anre.org
http://www.animeondvd.com
I've been getting most discs for under $20 (granted they're on 26 episode or less shows). It just takes a few extra minutes to find the best way to save cash (sales, coupons, etc).
The Perfect Sessions just dropped to $150 at amazon.com.

I got the perfect sessions for $125 from Amazon before it was released and then had to wait a while. But at suncoast in my area they sell the DVDs for about 30 a piece so the box set saved me quite a bit. I am not sure how the prices are in other areas but it was the most economical for me... I recomend it to anyone and everyone... the sound track kicks ass... now only if I can get my hands on the rest of them...

WOW, this was consider a weak episode?? The next few should be mind blowing then.
Two questions: How many DVD's are there?? How many episodes on each?
The Perfect Sessions is a box set of all 26 episodes. Session 1 contains episodes 1-5, session contains 6-10, session 3 contains 11-14, session 4 contains 15-18, session 5 contains 19-22, and session 6 contains episodes 23-26.
And yeah, Asteroid Blues is weaker than the other episodes in my opinion.
JTurner954
03-11-2002, 05:53 PM
So there are a total of 6 DVD's?
Shnay
03-11-2002, 06:43 PM
Yeah, there are six DVDs.
I think Asteroid Blues is one of the weaker episodes, but I still like it. [Although give it until Session 5, I think next week's episode is worse than Asteroid Blues].

The most I would buy a DVD for is $20. Therefore, if I end up liking the entire series, I would buy it for $120-130 (or less if I could).

I think next week's episode is the weakest of the CB series, if you ask me.

Yeah, whenever "anime for all ages" appears on a promo for an episode of Cowboy Bebop, you know you're in trouble.

Trust me, the $200 that the "Perfect Session" costs is well worth it. If I'm not mistaken, it even comes with the fist soundrtack.
(can anyone verify this?)
I'll be able to verify in A COUPLE OF DAYS WHEN THE PERFECT SESSIONS ARRIVES AT MY HOUSE!!!!!! :D :D :D :D :D

Yep, it comes with the first soundtrack. And what a soundtrack it is!

The perfect sessions does come with Cowboy Bebop O.S.T.1(origional sound track 1) This is mainly all the music from the frist few episodes and yes it does contain tank the theme song, and it is a longer version complete with Jazz solos from "The Seatbelts". The soundtrack is amazing... I found a few random songs on Amazon but if anyone knows where you can get the other soundtracks please let me know...

Hmm, then maybe it will be good to find at $140-150 for the set IF I like it.
