is it because cn does not own dbz or is it becuase they don't care about dbz any more and are trying to make naruto the new dbz sensation:shrug:
Naruto is dead to CN, and DBZ died a long time ago. The creator has moved on (GT was made without Toriyama)
And does CN even have the rights to the DBZ movies? They haven't shown them in years.

They still have the rights, I heard CN was gonna air The Dragonball z movies (Not sure if it will be on Action Flicks, Maybe Wednesday nights) To help promote the Live action Dragonball movie.:)

I've been wondering the same thing. I said that they should play the movies so the younger generation could see how awesome this anime is. It's not like DBZ still isn't insanely popular. I know some kids are still into DBZ cuz they like the video games to. It would also help promote the live-action movie and Bandai's new DBZ products. The last DBZ movies were "Fusion Reborn" and "Wrath of the Dragon" shown in late 2006 and DBZ was taken off mid 2008. They still have many Dragon Ball/Z movies they haven't aired and they haven't aired the GT special either.

DBZ is no longer a profitable franchise, as the series ended production several years ago. Perhaps the reruns will be in demand if the live action Dragonball movie is a huge success...although having seen the trailers and I personally wouldn't count on that.

DBZ is the top anime property in the US over Pokemon and Naruto. The season sets are selling off the wazoo. CN may air the new DBZ special sometime this year or maybe early next year.

Don't CN stills remember that DBZ made them high ratings. Even when it was syndacated.:D

Its nothing more than a placeholder to the executives at this point. That show's time has passed, and they want a new one to take its place.

That show's time has passed, and they want a new one to take its place.I doubt no action cartoon will ever get as high ratings as what DBZ did back in the day. Still, the DBZ movies would be perfect for action flicks. Heck there are so many movies that they could stay for a very long time on CN. It's not like CN doesn't overplay the Scooby-Doo, Pokemon, Naruto, and the DC movies over and over and over again. It would definetely help expand Action Flicks.

CN's biggest hit right now is a comedy (TDI), followed by an action (SW:CW).I'm just saying in the action department, that DBZ was probably CN's biggest hit. Not to say that maybe a comedy could do just as well. A comedy just wouldn't take DBZ's place because the impact DBZ had on the anime and action industry was phenomenal.

Either way, you're right that DBZ was CN's most successful show.

I know it wouldn't be no where near what they use to, but I'm sure DBZ pulled its own weight.

Me too. Can someone post me The website so i can see please.:)
Cynopsis Kids usually has ratings reports for Saturday nights, but they usually never give the information for individual shows (except for Saturday morning)

How could DBZ had given Cartoon Network high ratings before it was picked up by CN?
Anyways, it's not an issue of CN remembering. They remember, but that was then, when these episodes were first run, but that was a long time ago. DBZ wouldn't be the major ratings grabber that it was back in 2000-2002. As previously stated, DBZ has been mere filler for the last 2 years that it was on CN.

DBZ stopped pulling in sizable ratings for CN years ago, so they pulled the show. It doesn't matter how big it was for them at one time, they're not about to spend the cash to acquire the DBZ movies which they don't already own nor re-air the ones that they do own for a show which is no longer a ratings giant and isn't even running on the channel currently.
That's all there is to it.

They may air some of the movies to promote the live-action movie. It would definetely help Action Flicks from being so darn repetitive as well if they aired the movies. I think it would be perfect to keep the franchise on the network in movie form.

They might do something like that IF the movie does well, but they're not going to associate themselves with the movie in any way, shape or form if it sucks.

Actually, they never aired movies 7,8,9,10 and 11. It's surprising they at least didn't air one of the Broly movies.

Hey, if they aired with the original Japanese music and not the fifty-80 minute AMV versions I'd be game.
The fact that this thread is still open speaks volumes about the state of the CN forum.

Wow lol DBZ not profitable? You do know it's a multi billion dollar frnachise that broke numerous records such as being the only animation to top the top 2 slots of Billboard VHS sales back in 2003, the 1st animated show to break into the top 50 and top 25 most watched cable shows and not many have followed that success, the games still sell in the millions and the season box sets sell in the millions and you say it's not profiable anymore. DBZ ended years ago but it's still huge in Japan and in America as well as other terrortories. While not as big as it was it's stil huge. The DB MMO which Akria Toryiama is working on which is considered the actual sequel to the DB manga and the new released DBZ movie that just came out at the Jump Tour a couple months agao has an estimated budget of $100,000,000 and is one of the most anticapted MMOs on the Asian front.
Now DBZ isn't really heard that much of anymore since the only things really keeping it's name around is the games and boxsets but DBZ is far from a dead property. Also besides the 1st 3 DBZ movies the rest were somewhat crappy. They were all pretty much extended episodes in the 35-55 minute range while World's Strongest, Dead Zone and Tree of Might were in the 1 hour or more zone. I think those 3 would be the only good ones to show. However the 1st Broly movie is one of the most popular DBZ movies and since Broly is one of the most popular characters that could work but besides the 1st 3 and Broly: The Legendary Super Sayain and maybe Wrath of the Dragon no other DBZ movie would work well with Action Flicks. Hell the specials The History of Trunks and Bardock The Father of Goku were better then most of the movies.

But my faves are Dead Zone, Tree of Might, Cooler's Revenge, and the 1st Broly. I think those would be best for Action Flicks. I'm sure CN still has the rights for most of the movies if they still have the rights for the series. I would like to see some of the DB movies to that have never been shown on CN.

ADDENDUM TO MY PREVIOUS POST:
I realize that saying that DBZ is no longer a "profitable franchise" was a bad choice of words. A better way of putting it would be to say the DBZ is no longer a viable commodity, as the series has been done for years, and there's no sign of any new series coming down the pike. Therefore, there's no real incentive for Cartoon Network to continue running the same reruns when there's no sign of any new DBZ material. This is probably why we haven't seen any DBZ movies airing on Action Flicks.
Like I said before, I could see CN airing some of the DBZ movies if the upcoming live action Dragonball: Evolution is a success, but I 've seen the trailers, and I really don't see DB:E breaking any records at the box office.

Well not only is DB: Evolution looking very crappy it would seem to me that anybody associated with the real DB universe would want distance themselves from the movie. I don't even know why FOX grenlit the film because out of all the animes the DB and DBZ universe would be one of the hardest to convert to live action. I don't think the film will be a complete failure though. Just the ammount of DBZ fans in the world which easily makes up at least 100 million, at least 1/4th will see the movie so around 25 million will see it in theaters at least so the film should easily break at least $100,000,000.
Also I doubt CN would even care to promote the movie anyways. Evolution is being made by FOX and CN is owned by News Corp rival Time Warner so really CN wouldn't really see anything in terms of marketing Evolution since they won't make any money from the film.

I hope DBZ comes back in some way shape or form to the network. I bet they play some DBZ movies sometime when DB:E hits. It would really be nice to see all the movies play on Action Flicks. It would be a great way for the franchise to stay around on CN. It would also cut back on all of the other Action Flicks movies that have been run about a thousand times now. CN will probably play the new special after FUNI dubs it so we can look forward to that. Even if it doesn't play on CN, we can still look forward to the DVD of it.
