Hopefully this gets good ratings and we can see a full-scale return of the Looney Tunes on CN.

Technically this was made in 2008, so it's not the first thread of 2009. ;) Unless we're living in different timezones...

I've been looking forward to something like this for years. This marathon beats every good thing Cartoon Network has done in the past 4 years. Seriously. Better than Foster's and Chowder.

Either way, I posted this as the first talkback (not thread) of 2009, in the sense that it's the earliest cartoon-related thing to discuss this year.

Either way, quite a milestone. :D

like you are watching cartoon network "west" from where I live :)I don't live in the US, actually. (See my location)

My time zone is GMT -4, which is the same as the Atlantic Canadian zone, I think. I won't be seeing the marathon like you guys, but I'll watch some of the shorts on DVD to start the year nicely.

Besides, any advertising of Looney Tunes is good advertising. ;)

I'll be watching, actully I will be flipping between this and the Honeymooners marathon on WPIX 11, I never miss that, a New York New Years day tradition since 1996.

I see they're airing the colorized versions of the black and white cartoons. I've always known them as black and white so it's interesting to see what color choices they made in 1995.
In You Ought to be in Pictures, the color looks off on the people but fine for the cartoons. Maybe they thought black and white would turn away a lot of the kids but I never minded it when I used to watch them.

I really hope they make Looney Tunes a show on CN again, especially since I just got CN as an HD channel.

warnerbroman
01-01-2009, 07:52 AM
theBut even if they made full detailed plot synopses and what was planned up till episode 65 there's still no reason for the new team to use them.

The new team would want to do their own interpretation of Spidey in whatever way they see fit. They have every right to do that, and it might turn out great, since it would be their show.

noods would be awesome too

Has the drunken stork been cut entirely from all of his episodes? Must have only started a few years ago, cause I remember CN airing some of his appearances. The other cartoons to feature the stork ("Apes of Wrath", "Goo Goo Goliath", "Stork Naked" and "A Mouse Divided") have him in roles too big to be cut out. However, none of these shorts is airing in the marathon, so CN chose not to air the cartoons at all.

"Fresh Hare" is still one of my favorite Freleng Bugs outings and it's a crying shame it hasn't been remastered yet for a Golden Collection, especially since the ending hasn't been seen on TV in years. We can only hope for 2009.

"The Wabbit Who Came to Supper" is a favorite of mine, too. I always love the scene where Bugs steps out of the shower, humming a note, then tunes himself on the piano and goes back into the shower. :D

That cartoon was "Notes to You" in 1941, which I've never seen in it's original before. I see a redrawn version on a lot of PD tapes that look reall crappy. I wish they could have aired a CC version of Notes to You today.

Actually - even though "Oproar" is the more famous short, it is the one that's actually a remake. The original was a 1941 black and white Porky Pig cartoon called "Notes to You". Gotta say, the fat cat with the soprano voice gag has me in stitches every time I see it.

It seems they aired the old ABC "Bugs Bunny and Tweety Show" print rather than the one they used to have which was complete. Jack Benny liked the Honeymooners so much that it led to another cartoon "The Mouse That Jack Built." The cast of Jack Benny's show did the voices of the mouse versions of themselves (one of the few times actors other than Mel Blanc recieved onscreen credit).

Supposidly the only payment Jack asked for was a copy of the cartoon.

Tweety, Sylvester and Bugs get the spotlight this hour. With the exception of the upcoming Speedy Gonzalez, every cartoon this hour stars one of the three.

It's awesome to watch these again. Luckily I turned it on in time to see Hair-Raising Hare. That's my favorite.

Ah. Speedy Gonzales. The one they took off because they were afraid he was promoting Mexican stereotypes even though he was quite popular on Cartoon Network Latin America.

Ah, very good to see Speedy again, he is probably my 3rd favorite LT character behind Bugs and Wiley :)

I do hope CN decided to put LT on at some point during the day, preferably mornings or early afternoons...

If this wonderful marathon doesn't draw more viewers for 14 hours than Cartoon Network has had for the last two YEARS, there is no hope for this country.

I'm going to remember this for a long time.

"Birds Anonymous" is airing as I type this. Friz Freleng's Oscar-winning Tweety and Sylvester classic.

I don't think I saw "Rabbit Hood" before. Well, with 1001 shorts made during LT's 39 year run (1930-1969), there're bound to be a few that I missed.

I loved it, of course (Chuck Jones can do no wrong.) I laughed out at the part where Bugs tricks the sheriff into buying a property on king's private garden, starts building a house over it and just as he was almost done, he realizes that he's been tricked.

I don't know why people were surprised a Speedy short aired. He is a fan favorite and that redicuous "Speedy ban" was lifted before Looney toons left TV.

Does anyone know what was said in "Porky in Wackyland" by the small yellow thing when the Three-headed guy was hitting himself. It sounded to me like he said "His mom saw a sign for a porn broker" or something along the lines. Is this true or am I just deaf??

The little yellow thing says to the audience, "He (the creature with the 3 heads) says his mother was scared by a pawn brokers' sign." Which, BTW, looks like this:

They're really pulling out all the stops. Every cartoon they've shown has been one of the best. Nice to see my favorite Pepe Lew Pew short, "Louvre Come Back To Me", made the cut.
