A lone vigilante's activities create quite a stir in New York, where media reports of angel sightings become rampant. Did anybody else watch this one? Man, it was a REALLY great episode!! I liked how they used the religious aspects, complementing the story without being preachy. Liked Rogue going after Magneto. And there were some genuinely moving moments in this one, too.
Hopefully soon they'll let Beast be the focus of another episode.

Dude! I honestly felt this was one of THE-BEST episodes ever! That was so excelent. I've already watched it twice! hehe! ANGEL!
BTW, now that the entire ORIGINAL X-Men team has been on the show, don't you guys think it'd be cool in Toy Biz released an "X-Men Evolution CLASSICS" 5 pack? It'd probably work best as a Toys R Us exclusive, but just think..
Cyclops, Jean, Angel, Beast, IceMan(Or..is he "IceBoy" right now?), all decked out in their Evolution suits? eh?

This one was actually one of the better ones...in the troubled times of the last 3 months I think we're all looking towards God and religious imagery...from devil's faces in the clouds over the Trade Towers to two griders in the rubble forming a cross. People cling to symbols like drowning men to driftwood.
My favorite bit was the ending, with the teens spending times with their families (esp. the revelation that Kitty is Jewish!). Although I would've liked to see Magnus' holiday and how he spends it--his wife is (in mainstraim continuity) dead, and she was pregnant with the kids when she left him years ago. Perhaps, to humanize him, we see Eric Magnus Lensherr staring wistfully at Magda's picture, seated in his parlor in his armchair, crying a bit....
Watch for the bit where Kurt tries to sneak a kiss off Kitty and winds up smooching another guy on the cheek! I would have had Dog-Girl (in canine form) slurp him right on the lips...hope she doesn't drink out of the toilet.... :bosko:
People drop symbols in disdain if they don't pay off just as fast as they grab on to them in despair, and Magnus knew it--see how the people on the bridge turned against him when they thought he knocked Hayley to her near-death on the bridge. Of course it was The Master of Magnetism who did it, manipulating the metal in the cars and on the broken support cable.
His power has progressed far beyong playing with paperclips--Magneto desecrates a church by tearing studs out of the walls and hurling candlesticks off the tables.
Plus it was nice seeing Rogue making excuses to be near Scott, under the pretense of boredom (and Jean acting like a jealous little brat)...and Scott's story about his belief in guardian angels after he thought Alex died in the plane crash. Her best scenes are sucking off Magneto's power and when she realizes that Warren is the angel after a fether flutter's out of his white coat.
Logan appears briefly, but speaks volumes. He's glad to see his youth go (though admittedly he's forgotten ninety percent of it), and he opts to spend the holidays alone rather than with his "family" at Charles'.
Beast is, like myself, at heart an academic, whose idea of joy is upgrading Cerebro and quoting literature...but it was nice to see him and Charles enjoying a drink in the parlor, sharing a quiet moment.
Warren Worthington, for all his wealth, feels empty, I'd guess, and seeks philanthropy for both public acceptance and personal fulfillment...but his heroism poses a threat to the ignorant masses and to Xavier's cause. The end where Rogue asks if he'll join them and Scott's flat "no" tells us that if he isn't going to be one of them, at least he won't be against them. Better than than a hackneyed story about a sunshine X-Man who goes sour like Boom-Boom or Avalanche.

I really liked this episode, arguably one of the best, if not the best. Admittedly it was kind of "fluffy," but I thought it was a very sweet story through and through, and the Magneto fight was pretty cool too. I really liked the part at the end where they were cycling throgh the characters to see how they were spending their holidays. The snow fx were very eye candy. Poor Rogue, I just know her and Scott isnt ever going to work out.

I, too, thought that this epsiode was one of the best so far. The Magneto fight scene was very cool and the music for that scene was a definite plus! I wish I could have taped it so I could listen to that little bit over again!

I thought it was okay.
I was glad that they showed Kitty being Jewish, and everyone elsedoing their thing but what about Wolvie??
He's just playing pool all by his lonesome.
Which is why I have a strange question, what religon does Logan follow?
Infact in one ep. of the X-men on Fox, when Nightcrawler was frist introduced at the very end Logan was like praying (?)!
Has anyone seen this episode?? Am I imagining things?
Is there an X-Men ep. list?? :wakko:
Thanks!

Yeah, Kurt gets Logan to goto Church...it did happen. As to Logan's religion, your guess is as good as anyones/ He's lived an afully long time, and had mega mind troubles (brain washing chip etc.)
Oh, yeah, the Kitty thing....the main reason it was shown I'm sure is cause they don't want the Jewish kids getting all pissy that there was no Hannukah stuff on the show.

--I thought Kurt would be Jewish, being raised by German parents (although his birth parents are Mystique and an unnamed German nobleman). In the Fox series, he was a monk, rather like Martin Luther...does Judiasm have monks? And why do I find the thought of a Jewish Valley girl funny?
Logan seems to be a man who turned his back on God a long time ago, or believes He turned on him. I don't know what denonimation the church he prayed at was, but I'm sure God doesn't mind where he chose to do so as long as he was sincere.
And I sympathize with Rogue. Too much makeup and Texas accent aside (she's supposed to be a Louisana girl), she's one of my favorite characters, and has been way before the Evolution days. I don't mind her being so awkward and less sexy--she was that way in the early comics too--but the mascara is a bit overkill, like a little girl playing dressup with Mommy's stuff....

Do you NOT read the comics?
Kurt is an ordained something or other..
And no...we don't have Monks, or Priests (anymore), Ministers, Pastors, or anything. Just Rabbis.

Well Scott tells Warren the perks of the institute, however Scott knows Warren wont check it out. They go back to the hospital, they find out the girl woke up and will be ok. Warren is happy. Everyone leaves the hospital and they cycle through images of how each of the X-men members are spending there xmas. Pokemon runs long! X-Men ended at about 11.02 or 11.03.

I don't know for sure(because I can't stand to sit through an entire episode..), but I think PokeMon runs long because so many advertisers try to buy commercial time during PokeMon. Whenever I tape The Mummy, & X-Men, after the Mummy, there is some time left over on my Timer, so I end up recording 3 minutes of pokemon...which is more like the 30 second theme, & 2 1/2 minutes of commercials, before it cuts off in the middle of a commercial. Then my timer usually comes back on, during commercials, then finishes PokeMon. Stupid Pokemon...grr...
But, by now, I think its safe for everyone to just, simply, set your VCR to record it at least 5 minutes over the norm. Its the only safe way(and I think most of us have learned this from experience)
Anyway....
Has anyone seen/have pictures of the new X-Men Burger King toys? I saw a bid come up on Ebay today, but they were all in packages, so I couldn't see the actual toys. It'd be nice if these figures were 5" tall, & articulated(remember the Batman Beyond Toy promotion? Jet Pack Batman was 6" tall, had action features, was articulated, & looked a heck of a lot better than the Hasbro figure), then I'd have a Rogue for my collection!
Anyone else buying the oh-so-sweet X-Men evolution toys? I just wish they'de release Avalanch, Quicksilver, Rogue, & Kitty! grrr! Hopefully those 4 will be the 4th wave. That'd be sweeeet!

Hey, I'm new to this forum thing, and I was just wondering, if anyone knew when On Angel's Wings would repeat...I can't believe I missed it. I had Toys for Tots, from 6am to 11am that Saturday and totally missed it. I'm so obsessed with the show, that I even tried calling my house to see if someone would tape it for me, but of course no one did. So now I'm dying to see it, also what did they preview for next weeks episode? Thanks!

Hey thanks! Though I'm cross that I have to wait 15 days, or a half a month, to see it! I think I'm going to set my VCR from now on so that I will never be Xmen-deprived again. I know that WB was playing the same episodes over and over and over and over...but that was better than just one episode a week. If you ask me it would be best if the 3:30 timeslot changed each day or something so that if you're not big on one cartoon, it wouldn't be on every single day. Actually the only Kids WB cartoon that gets on my nerves is pokemon and that's only because it plays all the time! Plus I'm just a nut for Xmen, and Batman...obvoiusly I love super-heros...ok right, now I'm just talking to try to escape homework, but you know what, I need to get this crap done, so once again, THANK YOU!

Saturday "On Angel's Wings" aired so lets review. it. I'm sorry for posting this thread so late. I loved this ep! I always liked angel and i think his persona is dead on in this. The romance triangle between Scott,Jean, and Rogue is very interesting. I wonder how will this end? The battle between Angel,Cyclops,Rogue, and Magneto was GREAT. Does anyone besides me wanna see Angel join the X-team on the next season?

It was a decent episode. Liked the Rogue/Scott interaction (god I wish Scott would go out with her and not Jean. Grr.) and that the Christmas element was not overdone, though I would have LOVED to see "A Very Brotherhood Christmas". :p The ending, showing how the X-Men spent the holidays, was very well done (and they left in Kitty's Judaism! Yay!) However, I think that Angel should remain a one-shot character. The X-Men have way too many members as it is.

I'm assuming this is a repeat from the Christmas theme...because I don't recall seeing it before. But if it's not, no biggie.
I enjoyed the episode, a lot. It was nice to see Jean a bit green with envy & jealousy over the gifts and attention Rogue was giving to Scott.
I'll even admit to getting a little teary-eyed at the touching spots. :)

I always enjoyed "On Angel Wings". Too bad CN isn't going to play it for they're holiday Christmas party. What's up with that anyway?
Best Evo ever!
I remember that this episode aired when I was wondering why I was still watching this show. What had ranged from a poor to an average series got a good kick up with the ass with the debut of everyone's favourite Angel. More of what I like the X-Men doing, worrying about the mutants around them, not Bayville High. It was probably a good idea to get rid of most of them, I don't think anyone missed Kurt in this episode.
It even has a nice Christmas tone to it, and a few nods to Marvel fanboys, with Warren reading the Daily Bugle and I believe a Stark Enterprises building was seen when Magneto and Angel where flying through the city.
And the ending was great too. Just seeing everyone celebrating christmas in there own way, except Kitty of course, who's Jewish.
Best Evo ever! *****

I wouldn't say "On Angels Wings" is the best Evo episode ever but this episode was and still is really, really good. This stars one of my fave X-Men members, Angel who is protrayed very well BTW. I too like the ending where everybody is celebrating Christmas in there own little way. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everbody!

this was one of the better evo eps for me. i liked it, had some beautiful animation. i don't know why, but the backgrounds come to mind immediately, i thought they looked great in this ep, that's what i remember thinking anyway.
had more religious tones in it than i was expecting, which was fine, that's a natural subject to spark up with an ep revolving around an angel and christmas, but just another thing that comes to mind. the fight with magneto in the church was well staged and overall, the set pieces in this ep were great. the scene on the bridge was also had a great pacing. yep, i liked this one, devoid of any teen angst.

If I'm correct, it's air along with the other episodes on a regular basis. The episode is referenced on Operation Rebirth and Under Lock And Key (Angel's 2nd Evo appearance).
The Digimon Christmas Episode is the second Christmas Episode that airs regularly due to it being part of the plot.

This was the first time I've seen this episode, and I think it was very well done. :) I thought the idea of Magneto's conversation with Warren in the church was appropriate symbolism: the Devil trying to tempt an angel! The religious aspects of the episode were handled very well, and were not heavy handed. I was appreciative that they included the scene of Kitty lighting a menorah - a lot of Christmas/holiday episodes tend to ignore the fact that other holidays are celebrated during this time of the year as well.

Talk about switching gears - we go from 'Adrift' (hidden meaning in the poor writing of that episode/ ;) ) to this really well done piece. I give it 5 stars.
Warning - long rant here folks
Likes:
1) Kurt chasing Kitty with mistletoe - she tries to brush him off but gets caught up in the fun of being chased. Poor Bobby - but considering some of the pranks he's about to pull - serves him right. :D
2) Rogue getting Scott the sweater - which he proceeds to wear the next day.
3) The way Warren is portrayed - really tries to stay true to his comic character in my opinion. He really hated being a mutant but when push came to shove, he never hesitated to use his power to help others. The whole way that he wants to think things through before making any commitment is really well done. It's a shame he had this great debut and is underutilized for future episodes.
4) Rogue absorbing Magneto and getting the yellow eyes - it makes a really cool avatar for Rogue fans. She looked really cool flying after him.
5) My favorite part of the episode is the scene in the diner when Scott and Rogue take a break. They are talking about whether the Angel really exists when Rogue begins to tease Scott about beleiving in angels. Her reaction as she realizes that he does and her back pedaling was really well done - very true to life. Here she is with the guy she really likes and she sticks her foot in her mouth. (Now who hasn't done that?) It's a good insight to what Scott was thinking about Alex as he grew up.
6) Detail of Scott and Rogue alone for holidays at the Institute. One side rant of that detail though - I wonder what happened to Rogue's relationship with Irene Adler - her blind stepmom aka Destiny. Was it totally severed after the Turn of the Rogue episode? She spoke kindly of her stepmom in Shadowed Past (ep where Mystique is revealed to be Kurt's biological mom).
7) The ending scene was very appropriately done. A common mistake in these politically correct times is to ignore ethnic or religious traditions in the interest of not insulting any one person. The better solution is to embrace the diversity and to celebrate your own and learn about others. I was really shocked my son's school had a holiday celebration with Christmas and Hanakkuh songs, but the music director also included African, Asian and European traditions and songs. It was really well done and the kids had a great time doing it. Celebrating rather then ignoring their heritages.
8) Some people hate it, but Jean's reaction to Rogue and Scott together is very realistic. It should give her something to think about - how can she string Scott along like this by being with Duncan and not possibly lose him to another girl in the process.
9) Scott being friendly with Rogue - after everyone else leaves and Hank talks about upgrading Cerebro, he goes to put his arm around her as they go back inside. At the hospital when the find out that the girl will be okay, he puts his arm around her again. Check out Warren looking at Scott thinking 'What a player this kid is'
Dislikes
1) While on that thought about the shot of Warren, Rogue and Scott - Rogue looks weird to me for some reason. Yes, he has a tear in her eye but her face seems distorted to me for some reason.
2) What did Magneto hope to accomplish by kidnapping Warren? I guess he was going to use Mastermind to bend Angel to his side? Or just hope Angel would see the 'correctness of homo superior' while a captive?
Sandman

Um...ditto! :)
I always wondered why Magneto would even bother recruiting Angel for his Acolytes. I guess he really wanted someone who could fly because Warren showed little fighting ability at any time we saw him onscreen. That would make him slightly more useful than Pyro I guess.
Another nice touch was Scott and Rogue running from the crazy doomsday guy with the sign. I can see why people liked the Scott/Rogue relationship. One of the sad things about Evo was that we never got a chance to see Scott react to the fact that Rogue was interested in him. I wonder how Scott would have reacted? Getting to see everyone celebrate the holidays in their own way was nice, but couldn't we have peeked in on the Brotherhood to see what a miserable Christmas they were having? I guess villains are not allowed to celebrate holidays.

Ditto to everything said by Lyranfan as well.
I also agree with Sandman. There should have been at least one shot of the Brotherhood. I don't know why but the little girl in the hospital in this episode reminded me of Rahne. Maybe because of the voice? I noticed Scott didn't get Rogue anything for Christmas. I wonder how she felt. So this is why we see Rouge shapeshift into Magneto in "Self Possesed." I always wondered where that came from. It's a shame Angel doesn't appear in more episodes. This is my first time seeing this episode and I thought it was great.

The little girl in the hospital might have been voiced by Chantal Strand who is credited in this episode and is also Rahne's voice actor. It would have been cheaper than hiring another voice actor for that part. That’s why she seems familiar.

I often wondered about Scott's reaction too, Sandman. It could go a lot of ways and I think the writers were under restrictions on how much romance to show.
If could have been (the first being the most likely)
1) embarrassment - He never meant to give her the impression he was interested in her that way. He was the one selected to recruit Rogue (never formally announced - but Jean says in 'Turn of the Rogue' "Nobody wants you to stop trying with Rogue" as they walk to the geology bus trip).
He just wanted her to know that she would be welcome on the X-Men. I think it was the fact a nice guy paid attention to her that caught her eye at first (not very hard since she was living with the Brotherhood at the time).
I've heard recently that a study was done among married men. It states some high percentage of men knew within five minutes of meeting their future wife that she was THE one. Scott is portrayed that way towards Jean in the EVO comics and in the original comics too.
2) shock - why him? On the surface they have little in common - he's preppy, a play-by-the-rules kind of guy and a team leader. She's a loner, very sarcastic (in defense of herself) and a Goth - according to some, not so according to others.
But if you scratch beneath the surface to reveal more:
#1 They both have powers they can't control. I never put this together on my own - I read it in a fanfic where Scott and Rogue connect as more then friends.
#2 They are both athletic - and are competitive
#3 They have a kinder side that shows through. Scott stands up for Todd against Duncan and his buddies, he befriends Kurt at the end of the first episode Strategy X. Not that Scott isn't a royal jerk sometimes (Joyride, Survival of Fittest).
Rogue was really helpful to 'Risty' without any hesitation when they first meet. And how many times is Rogue seen picking up Scott's visor/glasses when he's being bullied by Duncan or Bortherhood.
While I think it was a neat idea, I think the traditional fan base would have been in an uproar if Jean and Scott had not finally sealed the deal in season 3 like they did.
Count me in as another fan of the Rogue/Scott pairing. I tread new territory, and I would have liked to see some closure come out of it. Alas, it never came.
As for the episode itself, It's one of my favorites. The whole setting was handled well (barring "Holiday Trees". I mean, Holiday trees? WTF?). And I liked Angel's story and the way he was used here. I liked the further exploration of Rogue and Scott, and appreciate how they changed Magneto's look, setting it up for his revelation in "Project Rebirth". Also, I liked seeing Logan in a bar, although I would have preffered that it not have the "Club" sign, which I found distracting.

You make good points, particularly the one about Scott and Rogue's powers being similar in nature. They had good chemistry and I also would have liked to see more of Scott's side of it. Too bad it never had a chance after "Power Surge."
(barring "Holiday Trees". I mean, Holiday trees? WTF?).
Yes, they can show a family praying in a church, quote the Bible, and have a girl light a menorah, but they can't print the word "Christmas." Ooookay.

Sandoz if definitely right on track about the ROMY fans - 99.44% of the fanfics have ROMY in the description ;)
I've been thinking about the whole Scott and Jean thing for a while and wondered if this might come into play.
Jean is telepathic - she can sense the thoughts of those around her. If Scott wanted any chance with her, he had to have a one track mind - that is only think of her.
If he had thoughts about any other girls like Rogue or Kitty, Jean would pick them up and think he's untrue. Just a thought.

That could be, because I also noticed that the blonde girl in the CD shop sounded alot like Amara as well so maybe they have a tight budget on voice cast.
I'm watching this now, my DVD came in the mail this morning, and the one thing that's standing out so far is the outstanding music. The christmas style, mixed with Angel theme makes for some great music. Truly outstanding on all levels.

This is one of my favorite holiday episodes and I'm looking forward to watching it this season on DVD. I think this is the episode that made me take more notice of X-Men: Evolution. With that great montage of various X-Men celebrating the holidays in their own unique ways this is one of the episode that can be watched and rewatched over and over. Everything seems to work just fine in this episode.

i liked this episode, its the best on on the "powers revelead" DVD by far
the fight at the end between Rogue, Scott, Magneto and Angel was really good, good to see Rogue doing some flying now and then ;)

What exactly is Jean's problem in this episode? I'm not normally a Jean-hater, but come on! Rogue is a depressed goth, Scott blatantly likes you, and even he didn't HE CAN'T TOUCH HER. Plus, correct me if I'm mistaken, but isn't she still dating Duncan at the time of this ep? Plus, just recently, Rogue had been vital in saving Jean when her powers were out of control, so it's just annoying that Jean was unnecessarily jealous. Hmph.
Anyway, ranting aside, I loved Evo's version of Angel. I really liked how they touched on the really-rich-guy-who-could-have-everything-but-can't-because-he-has-a-pair-of-enormous-wings-on-his-back storyline. Seeing as it's Christmas Eve, I think I'll go watch my DVD of it right now cos I love the little clips at the end of the X-Men spending Christmas with their families.
I watched this episode last night in hopes to get me in a Christmas mood, and it actually worked!
Simply the best episode of X-Men: Evolution ever. Arguably one of the best Christmas themed episodes in any cartoon ever. An outstanding episode.
Part of me wishes the crew got a chance to do Spider-Man, simply because the backgrounds/New York looked incredibly beautiful in this episode. I would've loved to see more of it.
I wish Boyd wrote more episodes!
I watched this episode earlier today. :) Aside from the traditional animated specials, it's one of the few Christmas episodes I just don't consider my holiday complete without having watched at least once. I think I'll take the DVD with me when I go for Christmas dinner at my aunt's tomorrow; I don't think my niece has seen this episode, and I'd love for her to be able to watch it.
I agree with Amazing Spidey and others who have said they would have liked to have seen a Spider-Man Christmas episode; it's a shame that with all the episodes done, a holiday oriented story wasn't written.

...the episodes he wrote were easily some of the best. He should write more!!!! Hint, hint!

Hello Mr. Kirkland and Mr. Gordon! It's great to see you guys visiting this board! Very kind of you!
One thing you guys really nailed in this episode is the Wolverine segment in the montage. In the other X-Men cartoon they have him hanging around the mansion for the holidays when he'd be doing exactly what you guys show him doing - being alone. It's a great character moment that I liked. I'm also glad you acknowledged Kitty's Jewish faith instead of just completely ignoring it.
Great episode!

I might get flamed for this, but, what the hell. I'm a DC girl anyway. ;)
I HATED what they did to Rogue in that show, just like I hated what they did to her in the movies. Rogue was my favorite X-Man when I was a little girl, so I'm a classic X-men purist and very opposed to the "gothening" of her. Ironic, because I am a goth, but that's just the way I feel.
I ALSO very much loathe the character of "Archangel." I'm not Christian, but I'm a fond student of Angelology and I believe that angels should not be taken so lightly as to be made into superheroes in kids' comics and cartoons. Yeah, stick in the mud. That's me.:brain:

This episode is THE highlight of the entire series. I was rather luke warm for series run, but there were several stand out episodes, and "On Angel Wings" is the most memorable for me.

Easily one of the best episodes of the season!
This episode is easily the best episode of X-Men: Evolution ever. In a season that was vastly improving from episode to episode, this one came along and blew them all out of the water. It has everything you could want from an episode of Evo, great animation, some solid voice work (Magneto's was above average here), a great plot, and a lot of great chemistry between Rouge and Scott.
I think the smaller cast of this episode works very well for the story, and the opening gift exchange had a fair amount of laughs in there. I especially liked Wolverine and Xavier's exchange about youth. "Yeah, glad that's over." McNeal played a much better calmer Wolverine than an angry. When he's not shouting at the top of his lungs, he's a damn good Wolverine.
I loved the first scene with Angel, with him saving the disabled woman. Between the beautiful visuals, and the utterly fantastic music, I actually think this is one of the best scenes in the show. Man, I'd love to have a soundtrack of this episode!
As I said in an earlier post, I loved the background during the New York scene. Given how most cartoons these days have bland, generic backgrounds, it was nice to see them take time with these (I don't think we ever saw them again either!). It's the same with the digital colouring/ink, it looks crap in the majority of cartoons, yet when used correctly like in this show, it manages to be one of the best looking cartoons ever.
Whilst the show came close on more than one occasion, with episodes such as The Stuff Of Heroes, Operation Rebirth and Ascension this episode is easily my favourite of the entire series.

It's not the best episode but it's really up there near the top. I pretty much agree with all you've stated about the episode. I really like the montage in the episode where we see all of the X-Men celebrating the holiday in their unique style. I was even surprised they stuck close to the comics with Kitty's religious backgrounds.
And Magneto really does shine here. The chase scene between he and Rogue through the city is incredibly well done. Magneto was handled really well in the city. He had that quiet rage about him that boiled up to the surface when needed. His theme is chilling too.
This episode is way better than the 1990's X-Men cartoon's lame Christmas episode.

I don't like it THAT much, but still, it's very enjoyable. Much better and down-to-earth than the X-Men TAS Christmas episode (still, it was decent, in it's own weird sappy way).
One thing that I liked was the quiet, homey feeling of it all. It wasn't like character explosion like most of the episodes, it was basically just Rogue + Scott. Just look at the scenes with them talking with Xavier and Beast... No fast-paced storytelling, no high school drama, just a peaceful, little conversation. An enjoyable change of pace.
Then, we have Magneto. Aside from Rebirth, and maybe 1st season finale, he had so little character development, one thing that always angered me. Look at the TAS, that's how Magneto is supposed to be done. But this time, we even had a chance to watch as he tries to recruit another mutant. Then the standard action scene ensued. Seemed a little forced, although very well done.
Angel himself seemed to be a plot device more than a character, but he had it's moments.
And the final montage really shined. It was so nice to see various X-Men celebrating Christmas in their own way, it was a great touch. Good to see they didn't ignore Kitty's religion, and Wolverine in the bar, it was just so... Wolverine.
One more thing, I don't agree with Stu about McNeil's voice... he was brilliant as Wolvie, angered or calm. For example, he pulled it off great in Rogue Recruit when he did Mystique/Wolverine trying to scare Rogue...

This was his last appearance before "Operation: Rebirth" right? He still looks like he has the same design before he jumps a few years in the age department with that episode. While his character was a bit under developed during the show for the most part I think we got a good idea of whathis character was and was setting out to do. Not as defined as the TAS version but was getting there.

I don't think I'm saying anything that hasn't already been said, but what the heck. I just watched my copy of the "Powers Revealed" DVD again yesterday. Now I don't dislike any episode of X-MEN: EVOLUTION, but "On Angel's Wings" is by far one of the best the series ever produced. Everything just CLICKED in this one. I thought they handled the relegious aspects very well by acknowledging them and not getting preachy. The dialogue with Scott and Rogue in the diner was WONDERFUL. And the closing montage is proof that pictures really are worth a thousand words.

I didn't think there was anything wrong with that becuase of Magneto's status and beliefs. Be thinks he's doing what is right and isn't going to let anything stand in his way even if a character wants a bit of privacy or spiritual guidance. If anything this showed off just how strong his beliefs are towards his goals and how he'll ignore just about everyone else's to make sure his are done.

Though not on the schedule yet, the Canadian channel YTV (http://www.ytv.com) is expecting to air this episode once again over the holiday break. The network tends to air it a couple times over the holidays, usually during their Saturday morning block and then during some of their holiday marathon blocks. If YTV is airing this episode, like expected, we should know in the next week or so.

The church is primarily there for imagery purposes. The church, like the menorah and the "holiday" trees, add to the Christmas feel of the episode. It's subtle but effective.
Also, it should be remembered that Magneto is not Christian. (He's Jewish.) That means he would view the church as a place of worship, not his place of worship.

I hope YTV does air this over the break. I make a point to watch this episode every year. It's so much better than that terrible "Have a Very Morlock X-Mas" episode. I found it to be one of the most mature episodes of the series and also very haunting. There's something about the music and the church scene and just how everyone turns on Angel on the bridge. And you really can't beat the emotional punch of that montage at that end. Even if YTV doesn't air it I'll watch my copy of it on DVD.

btw, WHO THE HELL IS RESURRECTING THESE OLD THREADS?!?!?! X-Men: Evolution is a popular topic here and Jim brought back this thread because the Canadian channel YTV is probably going to air it over the holiday break. YTV has aired this episode a few times every years for the past little while during the holiday season. Since this isn't a pointless bump up like most of them are I don't see why there should be a problem. Let's just enjoy this topic and how well it fits into the holiday season.

That means he would view the church as a place of worship, not his place of worship.Furthermore, Magneto has never been depicted as a practicing Jew, either in Evo or in any other take on the character. He's a man of lapsed sprituality.
There was probably a time when he was a religious man, but Evo Magneto has been alive since the 40s and has probably grown very, very distant from his faith. I really don't think the whole "church" thing would really enter his mind much to begin with.

It's good to know I'm not the only one who thinks this is the best episode in Evo. It's just perfect...ok I would love to see Kurt in a church or something but darn it the censorship ruined that!!! Aside3 form that this episode is the definition of perfection. Interesant plot, Hints of the other heroes Spider-man Iron-man, Rogue actually Flying, The dark perception of the dev il tempting tthe angels, Kitty as a jewish, Wolverine as a loner, this is one of the best moments of Wolverine in the series, the last sparks of the Rogue crush on Scott, the dialog in the restaurant and the end with the words of Scott and the silouet of Magneto a very dark reference of the past maybe this was the moment for a weird cameo of Mr. Sinister but that makes no difference this episode is perfect I'm trying to think of other episodes but this is my favorite more than Self-possesed, Shadowed past, Grim Reminder or Stuff of heroes and varely better than Operation: Rebirth.
With the festive season now upon, I thought now would be a nice time to look back on my favourite Christmas episode

I notice no one bumped "A Very Special Morlock Christmas."
This is probably one of my favorite Christmas episodes because it is not about Christmas. It uses the imagery--snowfall, fireplaces, parties and "holiday" trees; but there's no ridiculous plot about having to save Santa from Magneto.
Instead, this episode mentions what Christmas (and many other December holidays) are about--faith. It is what Rogue and Scott discuss while in the diner. It is what Warren temporarily loses after the young girl is hurt.
And this exploration is done entirely within the realm of the established characters. Rogue does not suddenly become a jaded agnostic. It is almost to be expected after what she has been through. Scott's reasons for belief are personal, touching and wholly in character.
For a show that could not address religion, per demands of S & P, this episode takes an interesting stance on faith. It does not judge any character and it validates both sides of the belief/not belief argument. No deus-ex-machina "Christmas miracle" saves anyone. There is no smoking gun to say, "Look Virginia, there is an omniscient deity (or deities) watching us, but we only acknowledge it on Christmas."
But, instead, Warren, Scott and Rogue learn they are the arbiters of miracles. So if you have faith, then you never know when you may "entertain angels without knowing it."
It's a simple message that is in spirit with the season, and it is not inundated with all the Christmas cliches that get treaded out this time of year.

And on an unrelated note, "Gambit does not make TV dinners!"
If CN airs this today, I might begin liking the channel again.

Another favorite episode of mine, I mean forget the Christmas episode from the 90's X-Men cartoon or other Christmas episodes, this episode is one of the more perfect examples of how to do a Christmas episode for an Action cartoon. This gets a 10/10 for me.
Other highlights include the look Jean had on her face when Rogue gives him the sewater, Rogue absorbing Magneto's powers and persues him, Angel himself, the Daily Bugle newspaper, and the ending montage, it's just so brilliant.

I just rewatched the episode, as I'm going through the series on DVD, so I just let it run as the next episode.
It was interesting to hear Jolly Old Saint Nicholas being played as the song at the party, since even during Christmas time, not that many groups record the song, or the groups that have recorded it don't get it played that often. Suffice it to say, but Jolly Old Saint Nicholas is a favorite Christmas song of mine.
But the story was pretty good, having Angel flying around New York helping people, and then getting accused of doing bad...really great story.
Of course I haven't seen the 90's X-Men Christmas themed episode in years, so when Disney finally releases that on DVD it'll be interesting to compare the two episodes, and hopefully Marvel, Toonz and Liberation will make a Christmas episode for Wolverine and the X-Men someday, maybe this Christmas.
