Ok, Im in a bit of a spot. My car wont start and I was hoping someone could help me out. Yesterday afternoon it worked fine. I drove it to a friends house and then came home. I went back out to my car to look for something and left the inside light on. This was at about 7:00pm Tuesday night. When I came out to go to the store today, Wednesday at 7:00pm, 24 hours after I left the light on. Now the headlights and the radio are all functioning, but the car will not turn over. When I parked yesterday, I was out of gas, almost completely gone. Im thinking this could also be the problem, that maybe I'm out of gas. The only thing with that is, Ive put 2 gallons of gas in the tank and it still wont start. Im out of ideas and I dont know what it could be. Its either the battery, or Im out of gas. My car has never had any problems up until now. I get it checked out regularlyand I get the oil changed every time it needs it. (im a little late this time around but I still have oil in the car.) can anyone help?

That 24 hours of dome light probably sucked out enough juice from the battery that there's not enough to start the car (much more than, say, to turn the lights on).

You probably only need a jump start (make sure you do it right) and then drive the car for a good 20-30 minutes. That should recharge the battery.

Yup, dead battery, not totally dead (which is good because it'll take a charge better that way) but make sure that if you go to the gas station someone with a car comes with you. Not very safe to pump gas in your car with it running so in case it dies again after you shut it off, you'll need to jump it a second time.

This happened to a friend of mine, I jumped her car she went to get gas, then I realized that her car would die again and showed up at the gas station just as she was starting to freak out again.

I think just a jump is what you need on it.

As for the gas, im guess the fuel pump is out or going out. And if your car is fuel injected, dont pump the gas, IT WILL FLOOD YOUR CAR!!!

What make and model is it, and year? Just curious. And if its a stick, you do know how to cold start it right?

If you know a good mechanic and a way to tow your car there, then thats the best bet...

How does driving a car charge a battery?

How does driving a car charge a battery?

Driving the car around after it has been jumped keeps the battery charging and returns it to a normals state. I forgot who asked, but my car is a 2005 Kia Spectra. I do have an update though.

After trying to jump start it 3 different times, I removed the battery and took it to Auto Zone. They put it on a machine and told me that my battery was almost dead. The offered to charge it up for free, so as of now it is charging. It was supposed to take an hour, but after the initial hour, it was still charging, so Im leaving the battery there overnight. The guy did say that my battery is still good, its just going to take a while to charge. Im hoping after I place the battery back in the car it will work. Oh yeah, he told me my battery wouldnt take a jump start because there was too much corrosion on the connectors.

My friend in the story above had that problem, they were bright copper green. I had to use a toothbrush to clean them off. Keep the battery clean people! You will not regret it!
