Before I give my choices, I'd like to go on record and say Adult Swim in 2008 stunk more than any year before it. With that out of the way, my choices:

Best Series
- Death Note

My choice for best show of 2008 is a toss-up between The Drinky Crow Show and Clerks.

Best Single Episode
- "New World", Death Note

A finale to an excellent series that didn't feel like a setup for another season. Metalocalypse's second season finale is my runner-up choice.

Best Male Character
- L, Death Note

L beats Light on the unpredictable meter making him more fun to watch. My personal choice once again is Adam West.

Best Female Character
- C.C., Code Geass

A girl who loves pizza and is basically the only person I liked on Code Geass.

Best Supporting Character
- Dr. Steve Brule, Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!

I loved how it fit the tone of the show. Metalocalypse was a close second; the songs were better in the first season. Another runner-up: Xavier: Renegade Angel.

Hard rock in anime instead of the same ole music. How refreshing. I'll also give nods to Assy McGee and Xavier: Renegade Angel for nice sounding opening themes.

Read that line again. Do I really need to point out why this is the Worst Single Episode? Although I'm surprised no one mentioned an episode of Young Person's Guide to History.

Not only is he an actual ass, but you can barely understand what he's saying. His talking can either puts someone to sleep or make them leave the room. And I'm disappointed that someone would nominate and/or vote for Eric Wareheim instead of a fictional character. That's just cruel.

Really difficult choice here but I'll go with Assy since it seems like the only parts of the body that move in this show are eyes and ass cheeks.

And now some awards that were given out at a ceremony held earlier today.

"Best Moment on Adult Swim" goes to "Old School Fridays", a night where Adult Swim aired classic bumps with original Adult Swim programming like Sealab and The Brak Show while also airing Home Movies and Cowboy Bebop. A fine example of what made Adult Swim watchable in the first place. Runner-up goes to Christmas when they will air the underappreciated Astro Boy once again.

"Worst Moment on Adult Swim" goes to the decision to air A Young Person's Guide to History, a show that did not show any effort at all like its cousin the better-not-still-bad Saul of the Moleman. The best joke involved a cameo from Tim and Eric which lasted less than a minute and should have had the same kind of humor for the rest of the series. Runner-up goes to the moment where Sabrina, this year's "Have It Your Way" winner, was not allowed to mention why she choose the episodes she wanted. It's like having a Whooper without bread.

Code Geass gets the award for "Best Anime on Adult Swim in 2008" even though it only had Moribito as competition. "Best Anime of 2008", however, goes to Gurren Lagann on the Sci Fi's channels "Ani Monday" block which is more entertaining than Geass.

The "Underappreciated Award" goes to a show that debuted last year which I saw this year and enjoyed: Dark Place, the first British comedy I've seen and enjoyed since "Are You Being Served?". This is what Saul of the Moleman and Young Person's Guide to History should have been.

The "Most Angry" award should go to anime fans for having to deal with constant schedule changes ( 5 am for new anime? Ridiculous), constant edits to anime episodes themselves, and insults via Adult Swim bumps. Doing this won't keep viewers; instead, they'll go to the winner of the next category.

The "Biggest Threat to Adult Swim" award goes to .... not Ani Monday which won last year. Instead, it's the internet which has provided more legal content through sites like Youtube and proves to be better than Adult Swim 2008. They must see this trend as they are no longer having new episodes before they air on TV. Ani Monday was the runner-up with shows like Gurren Lagann and Gundam 00 showing people good anime can appear on other channels.

The "Otaku Truth" Award goes to Death Note, a series the otaku community praised and turned out to be worth the hype (reasons mentioned earlier). Runner-up goes to Gurren Lagann.

The "Otaku Myth" goes to Code Geass, a series the otaku community praised and turned out to be nothing but disappointing. Lots of pizza? Try two episodes of a sign and one scene of C.C. eating lots of it. Table humping? Try in the dark where the character can be doing anything for 10 seconds. Entertaining? Try something else if you don't like slow pacing and boring characters.

The "Anime Truth" goes to Bleach for proving via ratings and through my own experience that the "filler" is better than the canon. The Soul Society crammed over a dozen forgetable characters into your head before they decided to tie up the storyline. The Bounts crammed you with a handful of characters that had something to do with the current storyline and let them interact with the current cast.

And finally, the "Anime Myth" goes to the belief that Cartoon Network/Adult Swim is the best place to watch anime. After taking anime off the channel and restricting the content online, other companies like Funimation and Viz are putting out more content for free to its fans. Bandai has also shown they have no problem bringing good shows to other networks. Don't be surprised if anime is gone from Adult Swim/Jetstream/CN/AS.com within the next year.

So, it couldn't be classified for worst episode? Lame. :sad: Seriously, for next year, if a special was complete crap, it should be in the running for worst episode (and only for worst episode) regardless over whether or not it failed to meet the criteria to be nominated for the other categories.
