I was just reading up that there were 3 lots of shorts produced. Where these actually broadcast as part of any of the Super Friends series or just shown individually?
How would they be released on DVD, would they be part of a series or seperate?

The shorts, first made for 'The All New Superfriends Hour' were later revived in the early 80's as their own show, shown both on ABC and in syndication, and featured pretty much the entire SF crew.
They'd be their own release, as there were about 60(?) shorts produced before the Legendary Superpowers Show season, so I'm guessing that we'd get two volume releases if and when WB ever decides to release them.

This seems to be questionable because of "Return of the Phantoms".
Three of Superman's villians from the Phantom Zone escaped from a sapcecraft. The spacecreaft has a time machine and they used the time machine to stop Superman when he was Superboy.
Time Warner is still fighting for the "Superboy" name.
The Superfriends shorts aired after The World's Greatest Superfriends.

I would really like to see these released. There were a lot of great guest stars that hadn't been featured in years included in these shorts. Rima, Hawkgirl, & even the Leigon Of Doom made appearances.

A little history & clarification.
The All-New Super Friends Hour (1977-8) has already had one volume released, with volume 2 due soon.
When the series was changed to Challenge of the Super Friends the next year, it was still a 1 hour show, something a lot of people tend to forget, including so-called historians like Jeff Lenberg. "Return of the Phantoms" comes from that period.
The shorts from 1980-3 were part of the Superman-Batman Adventures cable package that Time Warner released in the mid-90's, shown first on USA, and later picked up by Cartoon Network/Boomerang. T-W edited them to pieces for time. I'd hope they allow for full restoration before a DVD release.

Actually, the prequel to that episode, Terror from the Phantom Zone, came from that period.

Thanks everyone for those bits of info, much appreciated. So its only the 80s shorts were likely to be waiting on it seems.

Agreed- those early 1980's Superfriends shorts should be fully restored to their original ABC-TV broadcasts, before they're released on DVD. At the same time, I would also like to see all episodes of the original 1973 hour-long series and The World's Greatest Superfriends, from 1979, also released on DVD. BTW, I've already ordered online The All-New Superfriends Hour, Season 1, Volume 2 on DVD, so I should be expecting delivery, sometime, next month. The DVDs are family classics and is still a collector's item.
