Ok, the Bronx is a boro, and forms the northern part of New York City. Bronx in itself is a city. Then you have Co-op city which is located inside the Bronx. Is it common to have cities in cities? Is their a name for this?

They aren't legally cities, they are just neighborhoods that are titled as such.
