I've tried this before, but after being inspired by Kenny McCall's ideas, I've decided to revisit some of the stuff I've posted before, but in greater detail.

Space Kiddettes:

42 years later, the original concept just isn't going to fly in a revival.

What I have in mind is to reboot the Kiddettes as a group of mature, responsible teenagers left to man a mobile space station all by themselves. Capt. Skyhook is more of a menace in this version, more malevolent and threatening.

The plot: Skyhook and his pirates ravage a space station, killing the crew, but unbeknownst to the pirates, 6 teenagers, children of some of the crew, are still alive. The series chronicles the kids' quest for revenge against Skyhook.

The Impossibles:

As I wrote in response to Kenny, the 21st century Impossibles are a trio of 20-something aspiring rockers who have taken part in a secret government experiment, resulting in new versions of Coil Man, Multi-Man, and Fluid Man, but not by those names......

Replica (Multi-Man): This time, "Multi" is a sexy, blonde, female bassist.
Springer (Coil-Man): The drummer.
Fluid is the lead singer-guitarist. The original Impossibles didn't have a drummer.

Dino Boy/Mightor:

A scientist in 2009 stumbles upon the Lost Valley where Tod (Dino Boy) has lived since the 60's. One of the scientist's experiments opens a dimensional warp that brings Mightor and Tog to 21st century Earth, along with Shera & Little Rok. Tod and his bodyguard, Ugg, join forces with Mightor to protect the Lost Valley.

Frankenstein Jr.:

As Kenny postulated, Buzz Conroy is now all grown up, married, and has a daughter following in his footsteps. Frankie has given way to Frankenstein III, a more high-tech robot. Gotta adjust to the times.

Birdman:

What the 1967 series never told us was how archeologist Ray Randall became Birdman. Since the Adult Swim analogue, "Harvey Birdman", has been killed off, the true Birdman can fly again.

We would start with a movie explaining Birdman's origin, leading to the resolution, at long last, of Birdboy's quest to find his father. As it turns out, the father is none other than Birdman himself. We learn that the boy's name is Raymond Randall, Jr.!

40-odd years later, Ray Randall, Sr., long retired from crimefighting, takes on one last archeological expedition, but disappears somewhere in the Andes Mountains. Ray, Jr., who assumed the guise of Birdman some years prior, goes in search of his father, but will run afoul of Dad's old enemies along the way......

Galaxy Trio/Teen Force/Herculoids:

What I'm proposing is reviving the Space Stars. The mistake H-B & NBC made in 1981 was catering to the Jetsons fans and giving Astro his own segment. The Galaxy Trio were a better fit, and this would make up for the snub. Each of these teams would meet and team with Space Ghost.

Shazzan/Arabian Knights:

Another idea that Kenny had was to unite these two series. To set it up, we would have another movie. In this one, Chuck & Nancy, Shazzan's masters in the 1967 series, are finally able to return home after returning the ring to its rightful owner. Time has passed, and the ring has found its way to Prince Turhan, who has regained his throne. Turhan's cousin, Princess Nida, rules alongside him, and the two of them together call on Shazzan, same as Chuck & Nancy did, making Shazzan the Knights' secret weapon.

Micro Ventures:

Amazingly, only 4 episodes of this educational series were produced for the Banana Splits 40 years ago. In the update, it's not about a family doing scientific research for school. Instead, it's a team of scientists (think the film version of "Fantastic Voyage"). Not much difference.

Cattanooga Cats:

With the series' 40th anniversary coming next year, it's time to revisit the band. As I've suggested before, the Cats can be rebooted as a country group, with someone like Sugarland's Jennifer Nettles as the singing voice for Kitty Jo. Cattanooga, after all, is a play on Chattanooga.

The NEW Perils of Penelope Pitstop:

I've gone over this with Kenny. Syl Sneakly (Hooded Claw) died in prison, but he wants to make up for past misdeeds, and bequeaths his costume to Penelope. Given that the original series was set in presumably the Roaring 20's, despite the anachronistic setting of Wacky Races a year earlier, we'll forward the story to the present day. Penelope's granddaughter, also named Penelope, now works for the government. One day, she finds a package in the closet that belonged to her late grandmother, and discovers the slouch hat, mask, and cloak of the Claw.

In this version, Penelope is married, but no children. A few days pass, and Penelope's husband, also a government operative, is killed overseas. Grieving, Penelope takes a leave of absence from her job in Washington. Learning that her husband had been betrayed, leading to his death, Penelope sets out to find her husband's killers and/or betrayer, whichever comes first. Having read her grandmother's memoir and the entries regarding the Hooded Claw, Penelope decides to adopt a costumed identity of her own. There's a new Claw in town. The GOLDEN Claw. Penelope chooses a golden yellow bodysuit with a cowled mask and cape, and as Kenny suggested, the costume can refract light, enabling Penelope to turn invisible when needed.

I've got others, but that's for another time.

Nice!!!

Here's my review on some of them:

Space Kiddettes:

42 years later, the original concept just isn't going to fly in a revival.

The plot: Skyhook and his pirates ravage a space station, killing the crew, but unbeknownst to the pirates, 6 teenagers, children of some of the crew, are still alive. The series chronicles the kids' quest for revenge against Skyhook.

This would work, especially if the modern-day Kiddettes were to range from 14-19 years old, and were pilots and scientists who received training from their parents as to operation of exosuits, ships, and combat techniques in order to take down Captain Skyhook and various other criminals allied with him.

The original Impossibles didn't have a drummer

I happen to agree with Hobbyfan on this one. In fact, these rockers, these new Impossibles, are a family, with Springer and Fluid brothers, and Replica their younger sister. Much later in the series, we could also add two new members: Flame, a beautiful red-haired keyboardist who will become Fluid's new love interest, and Stone, a mysterious saxophonist who is a loner as a result of a tragic event. He is a kind young man who will become a valuable ally to the Impossibles from time to time.

Excellent idea to merge the two shows there, since they're strikingly similar.

Frankenstein Jr.:

As Kenny postulated, Buzz Conroy is now all grown up, married, and has a daughter following in his footsteps. Frankie has given way to Frankenstein III, a more high-tech robot. Gotta adjust to the times.

Yep. the original Frankenstein Jr. robot is in a special case in Dr. Buzz Conroy's lab. And, this series also introduces us to Eliza Conroy's new robot, Lady Frankenstein, who, like her brother, has additional shapechanging and holographic abilities.

Ray, Jr., who assumed the guise of Birdman some years prior, goes in search of his father, but will run afoul of Dad's old enemies along the way......

And that's what killed me about the original series! Good plan. Also, Ray Jr. could come across a young aviatrix who would much later become the new Birdgirl.

Seriously! Astro and the Space Mutts had no business in that series! I see the Galaxy Trio and the Teen Force as related teams working in Black Hole X, with Elektra being the daughter of Vapor Man and Galaxy Girl, and the Trio being the mentors of the Teen Force. the Herculoids and Space Ghost are already in to form the primary nucleus of the Space Stars along with the two teams.

Shazzan/Arabian Knights:

Another idea that Kenny had was to unite these two series. To set it up, we would have another movie. In this one, Chuck & Nancy, Shazzan's masters in the 1967 series, are finally able to return home after returning the ring to its rightful owner. Turhan's cousin, Princess Nida, rules alongside him, and the two of them together call on Shazzan, same as Chuck & Nancy did, making Shazzan the Knights' secret weapon.

'Nuff said!

Agreed. The idea of having Penelope Pitstop have a granddaughter who follows in her footsteps is a good idea. Only this time, to add to that, this Penelope is named Penelope Devlin. The reason for this is, the government agent who was killed, her husband, is a member of the Devlin motorcycle stunt family, that had their own series back in the 1970's. Also, look for the Golden Claw to get a new ally in an old friend: Roxanne Sutton (yes, that Roxy Rocket)! As Hobbyfan postulated to me in the H-B revival thread, Roxy Rocket is reformed and is no longer a "villain." She is now the leader of an all-girl stunt team called the Screaming Valkyries But, there's something that connects these two ladies together, and it dates back to the time of their grandparents, Penelope Pitstop and Dick Dastardly (Roxy's grandfather, whose real name turns out to be Richard Sutton, who once led the Valkyries' predecessors, the Screaming Vultures), and the original Wacky Races, even though they don't even know it!

I've read the fanscript for the Swat Kats, and it's a great read. Which leads me to this concept idea: What if Top Cat, the Cattanooga Cats, and the Swat Kats all lived in Megakat City? Top Cat could be this millionaire that sparks this technological revival of Megakat City with the help of new mayor Calico Briggs and the Swat Kats. And, the Cattanooga Cats would be this country/rock hybrid band that moves to Megakat City to restart their music career, and ends up helping our feline heroes, the Swat Kats, on a mission.

cool you read it :) hm, that would work for a crossover movie perhaps, but imo not for a Swat Kats TV Show...too drasticall changes...they should start where they left off...make the animations smoother, add more effects to it and more details...and add a few new characters in the later parts..and in the beginning pilot show what happened before episode 1 of season 1...

Bullseye!! I was looking at giving this a vibe along the lines of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, but making the space station a mobile one instead of an orbiting one.

Seriously! Astro and the Space Mutts had no business in that series! Actually, it was Gravity Girl, hence her powers. Some reference books do get the name confused.

Kenny:cool:

I am not sure about the Dastardly/Roxy Rocket lineage, especially since Roxy was a DCAU creation. I would venture to guess Penelope married Ernie Devlin (making Todd & Sandy brother & sister-in-law). Todd would be part of the Devlin-Pitstop team as a mechanic/weapons expert, with Sandy helping behind the scenes as an investigator. We would say she went into the insurance business to set that scenario up.

Here's some more:

Devlin:

As Kenny suggested, this generation's Penelope Pitstop would marry one of the brothers (Todd or Ernie). I've chosen Ernie. Todd & Sandy would be added as a support team in the New Perils.

Hong Kong Phooey:

Series turns 35 in 2009, but this time we're giving it a radical makeover.

Start with, of course, a movie, to fill in the backstory of how Penrod Pooch became Hong Kong Phooey. In the new version, Penry is a college graduate with a legit black belt in karate and a degree in police science. No, he won't be a mere janitor this time, kids. Instead, Penry gets a promotion to police detective. Being HKP gets him into places Penry can't go because of procedures. Penry starts a case as himself, and finishes it as Hong Kong Phooey. The domino mask is replaced with a black cowl.

Bear in mind that Posse Impossible, a segment of CB Bears, was spun off from HKP. We'll reintroduce the Posse in the new series, but subbing their western motif with a hip hop look.

One other big change. Remember when Secret Squirrel was relaunched with an all-animal cast 15 years ago (as part of 2 Stupid Dogs)? HKP goes that direction this time, with Rosemary now Penry's girlfriend, and the only one trusted with Penry's dual identity.

Top Cat:

Recall that on Yogi's Treasure Hunt, TC was the one sending Yogi and the gang on their missions. Now, TC is in Washington as a special agent. Old pal Dibble is now chief of police, and has a son who is TC's new boss. Benny, Brain, and the gang will be TC's partners in crimefighting, working undercover.

SWAT Kats:

Seems the series was cut off in midstream. The Tremblays bombed with their later entry, the abysmal Mega Babies, so it's past time for them to come back to the team that made them famous.

Reset the series some 10 years after the final episode. Commander Feral is now Mayor Feral, with Mayor Manx losing a re-election bid. The Kats are now outlaws, forcing Jake & Chance to go into semi-retirement from their alter egos as T-Bone & Razor. Still working out of the police garage, after all this time, the boys have settled down. Chance is married to Feral's daughter, while Jake is engaged to former deputy mayor Callie Briggs, the Kats' #1 fan.

Mayor Feral is nearly assassinated by the Metallicats, only to have a new, masked vigilante appear on the scene to thwart the attempt, using the Kats' old weapons. Naturally, Feral suspects T-Bone & Razor have returned, but little does he know that the truth hits closer to home. Callie decides to run for Mayor herself. Dark Kat and the Pastmaster make an attempt on her, but the Kats finally emerge from retirement and defeat their old foes. Feral tries to arrest them, but Callie reveals that the statute of limitations has long since expired, and the Kats are free to resume their careers. Callie, of course, learned the boys' dual IDs some time ago. So did Felina Feral. Felina is the newest SWAT Kat, working solo and using her husband's technology. To keep it, ah, all in the family, Callie joins the team as well, and as a bonus wins the election.

Discuss.

Here's some more reviews and explanations:

Devlin:

As Kenny suggested, this generation's Penelope Pitstop would marry one of the brothers (Todd or Ernie). I've chosen Ernie. Todd & Sandy would be added as a support team in the New Perils.

It is Ernie Devlin. He was recruited by the CBI by King Faraday after he quit stunt work, and met Penelope Pending (Penelope's mother is named Paulina Perfect, and she married Patrick Pending Jr.). Ernie and Penelope were married in 1991.

Hong Kong Phooey:

Start with, of course, a movie, to fill in the backstory of how Penrod Pooch became Hong Kong Phooey. A radical makeover indeed, and rightly so! Hong Kong Phooey should have been an all-animal (mainly canine and feline) cast when it started in 1974! With the radical makeover of the series for today's audience, I'm going to call the city that Hong Kong Phooey patrols Bloodhound City. It is the neighboring city to Megakat City, home of the Swat Kats. The idea of Penrod becoming a police detective is a good idea, especially with all the police and CSI-type shows out there.

I agree with the Posse Impossible coming into the series, especially with the new hip-hop look. They should be a canine squad of different types of dogs, including two female dogs added to the group: a poodle and a chihuahua, and their main mode of transportation should be lowrider-type cars and if possible, a large sport utility vehicle. Look for the PI's to help HKP from time to time.

Finally, look for Penrod and Rosemary (who will be a collie this time) to become husband and wife in the near future.

Excellent Idea! Also, I would like to have Top Cat, Hong Kong Phooey, and the Swat Kats to work together in different capacities throughout their shows if a ninety-minute Hanna-Barbera animal-action series ever comes to life in the future.

Yeah boy!!! Nuff Said right there. Mayor Calico "Callie" Briggs has a nice ring to it, don't you think? And, Felina Feral-Furlong would look hot in a SWAT Kat uniform next to her husband, only this time, she would be given the call sign of "Catseye."

Very good ideas, now I wonder how to create a plothole for a crossover of Mightor, Birdman and SpaceGhost? Speaking of new spin on old favorites, I digged the archives and I spotted one new spin about Cool McCool
http://forums.toonzone.net/showthread.php?t=194584

As for Hong Kong Phooey, it could be interesting to see an episode when Penry's secret is discovered by Rosemary

and let's imagine new spin on other old favorities from Filmation, Cosgrove-Hall, Canada, etc... like the Groovies Ghoulies, Danger Mouse and all ;)

Just thought of this yesterday. In addition to linking Mightor & Dino Boy together, the scientist I referenced in my synopsis would be one John Butler, thus adding Valley of the Dinosaurs to the mix.

Good Lord, man, you're right!!! The Lost Valley, Valley of the Dinosaurs, it's coming together! Good Detective work, Hobbyfan!

Now, if we can call this team of Dino Man, Ugg, Mightor, Little Rok and
Shera the Heroes of the Lost Valley of the Dinosaurs!

I think it's time that the lovely Jana of the Jungle be added onto this new group of prehistoric superheroes, since she will come into the Lost Valley much later after being separated from her parents, who were part of John Butler's later expedition there.

Moving forward:

Jana of the Jungle:

Jana turns 30 this year, but as usual, the idiots at CN/Boomerang have ignored her. She's Hanna-Barbera's answer to Sheena, and like the last incarnation of Sheena, we'll make Jana a shapeshifter in this version, with those powers the result of her magic training under native shaman Montaro.

[Yeah, I know. Add one letter to her name and Jana would be too much like a certain spacey Jr. Super Friend from the same period.:p ;) :D ]

As for Kenny's suggestion of adding Jana to the Heroes of the Lost Valley, I'm not so keen on that. Jana was designed for the Tarzan/Sheena/Rima set. I'm figuring DC & H-B lost the license to use Rima after her two appearances on Super Friends the previous season, and while it can't be proven that Jana just happened to be in the developmental stages at that time.....!

P. I.'s United: (tentative title)

This would link together Inch High, Private Eye & the Clue Club.

Inch marks his 35th anniversary this year. Some sources claim that Inch supposedly could alter his size at will, perhaps confusing Inch with the Atom (Justice League). I've come up with an origin that might satisfy everyone....

Some 35 years ago, Hiram Finch, an operative for the Finkerton Detective Agency, volunteered to test an experimental potion that would give him the ability to alter his size at will. Note that the key word here is "experimental". Unfortunately for Finch, after shrinking down to, well one inch tall, or approximately the size of a thimble, he could not grow back to his normal height. Finkerton fired him initially (which of course would become a running gag in the series), but rehired him after Finch solved an important case. Finch changed his name to Inch High to reflect his new status. His niece, Glory, became his secretary, with Gator serving as bodyguard/chauffeur.

15 years later, after nearly being killed by a pit bull, Inch decides to retire. Glory & Gator get married. To replace Inch, Finkerton hires Larry, Pepper, Dottie, & DD---the Clue Club. By this point, all 4 will have graduated from college. Six months later, Finkerton dies of a heart attack, and his son takes over the agency. However, business starts to dry up, and the younger Finkerton closes down the agency. Larry & Dottie, however, suspect something is amiss. So does Inch, who comes out of retirement to help. Turns out the elder Finkerton's fatal heart attack was induced by his son, who wanted to close the agency in order to collect the insurance on his father.

With Finkerton, Jr. behind bars, Inch decides to become a consultant to the now-adult Clue Club.

The Fabulous Phantoms (tentative title):

This one merges 1971's Funky Phantom with 1973's Goober & the Ghost Chasers. Jonathan Muddlemore is interviewed by Ghost Chasers Magazine, and ultimately he & his pet cat Boo help solve a case with the GC. You can imagine the conflict between Boo & Goober.

Samson & Goliath:

Before He-Man & Battlecat, there was this duo, whose 1967 series didn't raise enough ripples at NBC to warrant a 2nd season. Goliath was a dog who turned into a laser-shooting lion. In this reboot, it can be suggested that Samson is in fact descended from his Biblical namesake, though I admit to being at a loss to explain Goliath's shape-&-species changing.

Samson would be part of a new Galactic Guardians team (remember, Galactic Guardians was the sub-title of the Super Powers Team in 1985) with Frankenstein III, Lady Frankenstein, the Impossibles, Golden Claw, Space Ghost, Herculoids, et al.

Zoo Patrol (tentative title):

This unites Atom Ant, Peter Potamus, Touche Turtle, and a new generation Hair Bear Bunch, among others.

Technically, Touche would be H-B's 1st superhero character, as a funny animal swashbuckler, 3 years before Atom Ant. Peter's lone "power", of course, is his Hippo Hurricane Holler. For this generation, there are a few twists.

1. The new Hair Bear Bunch are the sons & daughter of the originals, as Hair, Square, & Bubi would have all eventually found suitable mates.

2. The present-day Touche isn't related by blood to the original, but rather a student of Touche's who adopted the name out of respect & tribute.

3. The new Atom Ant isn't a real ant at all. In truth, this Atom is a female----and human. Atom rescued her and her father when their vehicle collided with a truck containing some radioactive materials. As it turns out, the girl was exposed to the radiation, as was Atom. In delirium, she mumbles Atom's catch phrase (Up & At 'em, Atom Ant!!). The end result is she turns into a female version of Atom, complete with powers. When the danger passes, she changes back to her human form. The original Atom succumbs to the radiation, but now his legacy lives on.

Your observation is astute concerning Jana, since in the 1978 partner series to Godzilla, Jana was raised in the South American jungle. So either of our ideas for the blonde jungle queen would work. Also, the idea of Jana becoming a shapeshifter adds a new wrinkle to her legend. And she's gonna need it, because with the new Serpent Queen being added to a brand-new set of villains for Jana, it's gonna get interesting!

I wonder what would happen if Jana met Jayna in the jungle.....

Interesting Idea, and a good one! With Glory and Gator married, they restart the Clue Club under a new name: Inch High Investigations! In later episodes, look for this high-tech crimefighting team to run into a certain group of young adults and a Great Dane called Mystery Inc.

I'm seeing a three-way series between Mystery Inc., The Fabulous Phantoms, and Inch High Investigations in this one.

Magic, Hobbyfan, Alien Magic!

Samson would be part of a new Galactic Guardians team (remember, Galactic Guardians was the sub-title of the Super Powers Team in 1985) with Frankenstein III, Lady Frankenstein, the Impossibles, Golden Claw, Space Ghost, Herculoids, et al.

We already have the Space Stars, but with the addition of the Earth-based heroes of the H-B Justice Guild, they would become the Galactic Guardians Unlimited, H-B's answer to DC's Justice League Unlimited!

You might as well add a second-generation Magilla Gorilla to the team as well Granted, he would possess incredible superhuman strength. As for the new Atom Ant, her name is Anastasia Peebles, and her father is Anthony Peebles, the son of the pet shop owner whose pet shop Magilla Jr's father resided in before his death. Anastasia is a 16-year-old raven-haired beauty that resembles a Hanna-Barbera version of Sarah Michelle Gellar.

I figured the new Atom to be a redhead, but.....! Magilla, Jr. makes sense, too. Now comes the question of how to link Atom to the Peebles family? I was thinking that Anastasia might be related to someone in the military whom the original Atom has helped in the past.

I will give the Angels and Drak Pack a shot, plus what should be done for Scooby's 40th anniversary. Ditto for Capt. Planet (20th anniversary in 2010).

For Scooby's 40th anniversary I know that Cartoon Network is doing a thrid Scooby live action movie next year but other than that probably not much. Although I am a huge Scooby fan for a long time and I think there should at least be a couple things that I would like to see:

1. Either on CN or Boomerang(most likely Boomerang), have a month long Scooby marathon maybe just on weekends for Boomer Royalty or have a about a two week marathon from the 1st of September through the 13th

2. Have Warner Brothers produce a new Scooby series next year for Cartoon Network, it can still have the gang solving mysteries as usual, but instead of Mystery Inc. solving mysteries involving fake ghosts and monsters, have them investigate the kind of mysteries that the Clue Club and some of the other Hanna-Barbera mystery shows had, that is to say still have some of the classic Scooby Doo style elements but mostly have more traditional mysteries: i.e. the gang trying to catch a bank robber or a diamond smugglers or even embezzlars, I know that the original series had a few of these but you could still do again but without a lot of the fake ghosts and that kind of thing.

3. Have Warner Home Video do with Scooby Doo what many tv shows have done, have every episode of Scooby Doo made including movies from 1969 to the present be made available in a special box set and call it something like "Scooby Doo:The Complete Collection" or something like that and include a few bonus features from previous DVD sets as well.

4 and this could work: The week of September 13 next year have Cartoon Network run a special marathon of the first two seasons of Scooby Doo Where Are You? before the Scooby Doo In The Beginning movie, sort of a tribute to how Scooby got started and maybe include interviews with voices of the characters form the past.

Lastly 5 Have Cartoon Network air a E! True Hollywood Story style two hour special taking a look at Scooby's history, basically show interviews with cast members(voices of the characters), talk about Scooby's history, how he got started, his time on Saturday Mornings, his popularity, that kind of thing.

Hopefully someone at Warner Brothers will take a good look at this and do at least a couple of these things for Scooby's 40th birthday he most certainly deserves it.

If you're talking about Atom Ant, Anthony Peebles was a military scientist himself, specializing in animal-based toxins for military defense. His wife, Natalia Antonov, was a Russian-born scientist who defected to the United States twenty years earlier and became a liaison to the United States Government upon meeting Professor Peebles, and marrying him three years after she defected!

Dr. Antonov was on the verge of creating bioengineered insects that could infiltrate enemy computer systems when agents from the KGB attempted to kidnap her, only to be foiled by the original Atom Ant. In fact, it was one of her ants, Anastasia Antnik, whom Atom Ant met as a villainess before marrying her himself several years later, and for whom her redheaded daughter is named for.

I will give the Angels and Drak Pack a shot, plus what should be done for Scooby's 40th anniversary. Ditto for Capt. Planet (20th anniversary in 2010).

Wait... Movie Time! The way I would do a Captain Planet revival is like this: It has been 15 years since Captain Planet's final battle with the Eco-Villains. And now with all of them in prison, the Planeteers decided to retire Captain Planet to the Earth. Since then, Wheeler and Linka had since gotten married are raising two children while continuing to be environmental advocates in the States. Ma Ti is now a wildlife conservationist and reporter in India, Gi is a marine biologist working out of Japan, and Kwame is a married father of three who is a military officer trying to stop the killing of millions of people in the Congo.

But, as they find out, there is a mysterious new force trying to bring about an ecological Armageddon upon the Earth. His power is 10 times worse than what Zarn could ever think of! Fearing this new villain, Gaia decides to call the original Planeteers out of retirement, only to have Captain Planet and the adult Planeteers taken out by this new villain. Now, with Captain Planet out of commission, the search begins for five new people to rescue the original Planeteers, only to find Maria, Wheeler and Linka's 13-year-old daughter, and the new spirit of Fire; her 12-year-old brother Walter, the new spirit of the Wind; Anissa, Kwame's 11-year-old daughter, the new spirit of the Earth, and two new Planeteers: Toru, a 14-year-old chubby boy from Okinawa who is the new spirit of Water, and Nehru, a 10 year-old boy from Pakistan who possesses the spirit of the Heart.

Together summoned by Gaia, they undertake a mission to enter this dark new world in order to rescue Captain Planet and the Planeteers. But, these new Planeteers have a secret weapon of their own: a new, female Captain Planet called Lady Planet who helps them free the adults and helps her male counterpart defeat this new menace and restore the ecological balance of power upon the Earth for good.

Ah, Stephane. Ruby-Spears is next on our list, since they had a small group of heroic crimefighters in addition to their licensed transplants from other companies.

I can't wait to see that, since NBC attempted to revive Knight Rider with a new spin. Let's imagine if a new Turbo-Teen series will use a Mustang instead of a Trans-Am like Knight Rider ;)

I would call her Mother Earth. Other than that, this works! I too envisioned Wheeler & Linka finally getting married. In fact, IIRC, there is one ep from the 1993 series that had them married in a future time, but we don't see them until the very end, I think.

Now, let's turn our attention to:

Teen Angels:

Captain Caveman is long gone, having been sent back to his own time by a scientist friend of Taffy's. The girls have all grown up, gotten married, and had kids of their own.

Taffy went to Hollywood to become an actress. Brenda & Dee Dee went to college and each majored in police science. Within 10 years time, all three had found their respective Mr. Rights.

Today, Taffy, her acting career having consisted of a small handful of bit parts in movies and commercials, is widowed and living in LA with her daughter, Candice, who happens to be the same age Taffy was when she formed the Teen Angels 31 years ago.

Brenda is married and living in Chicago, where she is a forensic scientist working for the Chicago PD. Her husband is a prominent police detective, and they have 2 kids, aged 17 & 19.

Dee Dee is also in police work, living in NYC. Her first marriage ended when her husband died in the 9/11/01 terrorist attacks. She's since remarried, and all told has 3 kids, the oldest being 16.

The girls get back together every summer, but the 2009 reunion is set for July, after three of the kids graduate from high school. Deidre (Dee Dee's oldest), Tamara (Taffy's daughter), and Bonnie (Brenda's 17 year old daughter) are in NYC with their mothers for a 2 week vacation. Trouble begins when first Taffy, then Brenda, then Dee Dee, disappear within a 3 day period. Bonnie calls her father in Chicago to give him the bad news, asking him to fly in to help with the investigation.

Now, I can't remember which one it was, either Brenda or Dee Dee, who was African-American, because I want to slip in a surprise player into this mix. I'll have to check on that before continuing.

Drak Pack:

Being a vampire has its advantages as well as disadvantages. Drak, Jr., inactive for nearly 30 years (DP was cancelled in 1981), resurfaces in Romania, where his coffin was moved when Drak, Sr. decided to retire. Franky, also inactive, is in Germany. As for the werewolf? Unfortunately, he's not around anymore, as he was killed in action in the early 90's, but not before he caught a lucky break and got married. He left behind a daughter who's just turned 18, and as a result, has inherited her daddy's curse/powers. The she-wolf, able to control her transformations, is able to locate the Draks in Romania, and brings Jr. back to the US, where she reveals her lineage. Franky is brought home, just in time to learn that Dr. Dred has resurfaced as well, resuming his quest for world domination. The Drak Pack, slightly altered, is back, now joined by Laguna (a female Creature from the Black Lagoon).

I'll help you on the Teen Angels question. Brenda was the brunette, Taffy was the blonde, and Dee Dee was African-American.

We're looking at the passing of the torch here, with what could be two generations of Teen Angels joining forces, with Bonnie being the lead, Deidre next up, followed by Tamara. The latter being 15. We could be looking at Dee Dee being related to one of the Superfriends outside of the main DC cast! (my bet's on Black Vulcan)

Also, Candice should be Tamara's twin sister, since they're both the same age as their mother those 31 years earlier. Look for Candi to join her sis Tammi as a member of the new Teen Angels in the near future.

Nice move with the addition of the two new female members to the Drak Pack, which I will call the new wolf-girl Luna, like the moon. Look for a rivalry between the two girls, Luna and Laguna, within the series as they deal with not only their likes and dislikes of each other, but of Dr. Dred and his army of monsters as well. There is a fifth member that should come in much later in the series named Tut. He is a young mummy who can take control of his bandages in normal mode, and transform into an Egyptian warrior upon contact with the sun, much like Mumm-Ra with the Ancient Spirits of Evil in the Thundercats series.

The Drak Pack are among the many teams who will join the Galactic Guardians Unlimited, along with the Teen Angels, in the future.

One more surprise for the Teen Angels: Taffy's late husband was a stage magician who possessed telepathic and telekinetic powers. That revelation is the reason both Candice and Tamara possess each one of their father's abilities.

Because of her late marriage to Jonathan Pierce, the man known as Black Vulcan (as opposed to Jefferson Pierce, the man known as Black Lightning, in the comics), Dee Dee's daughter Deidre does possess electric-based powers, including the ability to travel along electrical lines and fire concentrated bolts of lightning. She can also transfer some of her energy to an electro-staff that she uses with deadly efficiency!

Bonnie on the other hand, was born with a debilitating condition that affected her legs. Bonnie was subjected to a mysterious experiment that was conducted by an old friend of her father's named Dr. Amelia "Amy" Zonn (remember her from "Superfriends"), which not only corrected and healed her legs, but it also gave her a combination of superstrength and superspeed, although for limited amounts of time because of her age.

Even though they have these powers, the new Teen Angels mostly rely on their own detective and theatrical skills that they learned from their mothers and Bonnie's father.

That would work. Besides, it was Columbia Pictures who got the right to use the Ghostbusters name from Filmation back in the 80's for the movie. In fact, Kong and Spencer would be the ones recruiting Venkman, Spengler, Stantz, Zeddemore and Melnitz into the Ghostbusters organization. That's in addition to that hot female Ghostbuster Futura. Won't Prime Evil be pissed!

More Hanna-Barbera reimaginings later. Now, let's say hello to H-B's cartoon cousins from Taft City, the heroes of the Ruby-Spears universe! (Taft City is named for Ruby-Spears, and Hanna-Barbera's, former parent company, Taft Broadcasting Entertainment.)

Seaboard City was finally rebuilt years after the Justice League and Justice Guild restored the city to normal. It is since been governed by its six-foot-tall female mayor, Barbara Hanna.

Taft City on the other hand, is much like Green Arrow's Star City, with not many superheroes patrolling it, and a lot of transplants from other cities (or other comic-book and toy-based universes if you may). It is governed by Mayor Hanna's five-foot-tall cousin, Rubella "Ruby" Spears.

Among the main heroes in this continuity are:

Goldie Gold and Action Jack:

I'm going to tell you something right now, I have not seen this series in 25 years since it premiered on ABC. And from my recollections of this series, Goldie Gold was a beautiful Barbie-like investigative reporter who owned her own newspaper, the Gold Street Journal. Action Jack, on the other hand, was an adventurous cameraman who accompanied Goldie on her adventures.

In my update, Goldie Gold is a popular entertainment reporter for her family's television network, GOLD-TV, who sometimes investigates strange sightings of the unknown and unexplained. That's in addition to the many celebrities she comes across on a daily basis. Her fiancee, Jack Acton, is her cameraman and confidante who is also a trained martial artist and adept at firearms, and who accompanies her on all her adventures, like before. Hence the name, Action Jack.

This would be an X-Files/Poltergeist: the Legacy-type series, where Goldie, dressed in various gold-colored outfits, would get involved in stories of the unusual, unknown, and unexplained, and trying to find the truth behind these myths and legends, while dealing with people who are trying to stop her and Jack from exposing the lies and uncovering the truth!

Turbo Teen:

This series from 1984 was inspired by the original Knight Rider series. It featured a teen named Brett Matthews, who was ran off the road and got exposed to chemicals that merged him with his car.

In my version, Brett is still exposed to the chemicals, but he now has the ability to merge with any type of vehicle he comes in contact with, allowing him to transform into that vehicle in the process. This would come in handy as Brett is now a 17-year-old college student who is now working for a clandestine government agency specializing in dealing with spies, saboteurs, drug runners and international terrorists.

The Dark Rider in my version is a former operative of that same organization who was also exposed to an earlier experimental chemical that gave him the same powers as Brett, but it made his mind unstable and made him go rogue in the process. Most of Turbo Teen's adventures deal with the Dark Rider and his network of superpowered agents and low-level henchmen.

Excellent as Mr Burns might said ;)

and as Knight Rider, Brett Matthews might have a narrative intro similar to Michael Knight "...champion the cause of the innocent, the helpless, the powerless, in a world of criminals who operate above the law..." ;)

Ah, yes. Goldie Gold. As I recall, she not only was a reporter for the Gold St. Journal, but also owned the paper. I picture her as a cross between Britt Reid (Green Hornet), Richie Rich, and Lois Lane and/or Honey West. The latter may be before your time, Kenny, I'm not sure. This was the first R-S series not to go past the first season on ABC.

IIRC, Turbo Teen was designed as more of a left-handed satire of Knight Rider.

This is my version:

25 years later, Brett no longer has his powers. He's since been "cured", gotten married, and has two kids. Son Brett, Jr. is a different kind of Turbo Teen. No powers, save for an uncanny telepathic link to any vehicle. To maintain the Knight Rider parody, that telepathic link manifests itself in the car stereo no matter where BJ goes, and has a female voice. To suggest calling the car CATT might get us in trouble with NBC-Universal (which of course owns Knight Rider). We'll think of something.

That and the original plot of the series sounds like a radio drama series done by Seattle area radio producer and former radio talk show host Jim French. The show that I was thinking that is close to your idea is Kincaid The Strange Seeker; basically the plot of that show is Kincaid is a reporter for a cable tv channel called The Investigative Channel or IC who along with his camera person Shelly Mars investigates all kinds of supernatural and paranormal stories as well as unusal stories, it's been on since the late 90's. It's on the Imagination Theater drama series every so often which is on Sirius XM Satellite Radio and also on various radio stations around the USA and Canada, it's pretty good if you want to listen to it; HarryNile.com has more information about it if you want to find out more.

You ain't kidding! I was 11 when I saw this show! And damn, Goldie Gold was hot! Speaking of Honey West, I've caught this Aaron Spelling-produced detective series that starred Anne Francis on TV Land way back in 1998!

We can continue Brett Sr.'s adventures, or go on ahead and introduce Brett Jr. and his own adventures. Chief among Brett Jr.'s cast of characters are his father and his sister, who I will call her Brenda Matthews. She is 15, and will accompany the new Turbo Teen on his adventures.

Hey, I may check that site out though. The plot also reminds me of the original Kolchak: the Night Stalker, starring Darren McGavin, or that remake starring Stuart Townsend.

Here's more, guys.

Mighty Man/Mighty Girl Action-Adventure Show

This title is really a update of the Mighty Man and Yukk series from almost thirty years ago.

In this version, as with Blue Falcon and Sparrow, Brandon Brewster was continuing his crimefighting career. That was until two things happened to him: He married a beautiful soap actress, Brunella Blaire, and had three children, and his longtime dog, Yukk, had long since died.

Now retired and having put away his transformation chamber, Brandon and his wife Brunella are enjoying a more quiet life with their 15-year old sons Brandon Jr. and Brendan, and 14-year-old daughter Brandy. That is, until Brandy Brewster discovered that she possesses the same powers as her father, only this time it is in reverse! As Brandon Brewster could shrink in size to six inches tall, Brandy Brewster can grow in size anywhere from six feet tall to up to sixty feet tall, sometimes with disastrous results!

Finding this out, Brandon decides to train his daughter Brandy in the use of her newfound powers, therefore giving her the alter ego Mighty Girl. And, along with her hunky twin brothers B.J. and Brendan, they deal with a new set of supervillains that have forced their father, Mighty Man, out of retirement for all-new adventures!

The New Adventures of ElectraWoman and DynaGirl

This is a "come out of left field" situation here, as Deidre Hall and Judy Strangis' live-action superheroines from the Krofft Supershow, Electra Woman and Dyna Girl, are thrust into their very first animated series in the Ruby-Spears animated universe, since the characters were originally created by Joseph Ruby and Kenneth Spears for Sid and Marty Krofft thirty-two years ago!

In this update of the shortlived "girl power" series, Lori Heflin is now the publisher of Newsmakers magazine and a widow, since her husband, Frank Heflin, had died in a car accident! She has a 19-year-old daughter, Lorelei, who is a journalism major and gymnastics star at UCLA. Judy Strange, Lori's old partner, married an old college friend of hers, a doctor. She has two twin daughters, June and April, both 17, and a son, August, 16.

One day, Lorelei and her best friend June, a high-school senior and cheerleader, were in the basements of their respective homes when they found their mothers' old costumes in a trunk. Discovering this, they decided to confront their mothers about their superheroic pasts, at which time Lori and Judy decided to tell them about the legend of Electra Woman and Dyna Girl. Inspired by their mothers, Lorelei and June, with the help of June's twin sister April and brother August, create newer versions of the EW and DG costumes with far more advanced technology created by August Strange, including the ElectraKnux, powerful gloves that give off powerful electrical and sonic blasts from each punch, Zero Gravity belts that allow the girls to fly, and the ElectraCloak, a cape that teleports the girls out of any sticky situation.

They're gonna need it, because there's a new generation of some of their mothers' old enemies lurking out there, as well as some brand-new villains who are looking to give this new version of EW and DG a challenge for the 21st century!

Next up: Thundarr the Barbarian, Fangface, and Miss Switch

This one might be a wee bit tricky, since the Kroffts, I think, still own the characters ElectraWoman & DynaGirl. They tried a live-action update about 7 years ago, with Markie Post (ex-Night Court) as ElectraWoman, but never got past the developmental stage. A pilot went unsold and unaired.

However, with the Kroffts sending HR Pufnstuf back to the big screen (according to rumor) and Land of the Lost being reimagined, if you will, with Will Ferrell in a 2009 feature film, they might want to try again with EW & DG. I'll have to do a search to verify if R & S did in fact create the characters, since they were back with Hanna-Barbera at the time (1976), having introduced Dynomutt & Jabberjaw that year after spending the previous 4 with DePatie-Freleng, plus a side stint at 20th Century Fox (Planet of the Apes TV series).

It could be true they created the idea for the series for Krofft Entertainment in between the DFE and 20th Century Fox stints, and their return to the H-B stable. So it is plausible, but tricky because of the Krofft family rights.

More Ruby-Spears fun...

Thundarr the Barbarian

Let's call this update a slight reimagining of the series, since the timeline of the series' opening sequence, 1994, has long since past and it just won't fly here.

One slight change for this update, is that since Thundarr will be celebrating his 30th birthday in 2009, the setting for the opening sequence is the year 2009. A nuclear war (as opposed to a runaway comet in the original series) has caused the cataclysmic destruction of Earth, resulting in various natural disasters all happening at once!

Now it is the year 3009, and the Earth is now a virtual wasteland, with most of the human population replaced by all manner of mutant life and bizarre wizard, witches, and monsters. Among them, three people travel the ravaged countryside on journey to right the wrongs and fight for the innocent: Thundarr, Princess Ariel, and Ookla the Mok.

My idea for Thundarr is the same as the original, but with a far more dangerous Sun Sword that could burn through anything. Princess Ariel is getting a far more sexier makeover, since Ariel's magic is growing stronger, as Ariel finally can control her magical abilities with greater ease. Ookla The Mok still has his growling snarl and superhuman strength, but his speech has improved over time, allowing him to speak some complete sentences at times.

One change I would make is that Thundarr would be getting a female counterpart that will be joining him and his companions on their adventures. Her name is Cynda, and she is a Amazonian barbarian from an old Thundarr episode (don't know the title of the episode, I'll find out later) I'm bringing her in to cause some friction for Princess Ariel. She could also be a love interest for Thundarr.

More stuff later.

The 30th anniversary is 2010. The series premiered in 1980. I should know that. I was a senior in high school. Keeping things in perspective, the opening sequence would be in the year 2024, with the series itself set in 2324. Yes, it's now in the 24th century, not quite in time with Duck Dodgers (who would be active from 2350-onward), but....!

Now it is the year 3009, and the Earth is now a virtual wasteland, with most of the human population replaced by all manner of mutant life and bizarre wizard, witches, and monsters. Kenny:cool:

Romantic tension was teased between Ariel & Thundarr from the jump. In the new version, it would be even more obvious that Ariel has the hots for Thundarr, but the love hasn't yet been reciprocated, as we knew from before.

By the way, IIRC, Miss Switch was adapted from a series of children's books. That's another item to look up, but we might not be able to do anything with her or the Puppy's Adventures.

Kenny E. McCall

Agreed, Hobbyfan. I may not be able to do anything with Miss Switch or any of the licensed characters Ruby-Spears had for cartoons back in the day, but that's why I have backup characters that I could use.

Anyway, here's the next one:

Rickety Rocket and the Rocketeers

This little-known series is so long-forgotten, that I even remember it! It's one of the rare Ruby-Spears gems, and the one that had an all African-American cast of heroes (the original cartoon, that is), after Filmation's Fat Albert, and before WB's Static Shock (which was based on a Milestone Media/DC comic, by the way)!

In my version, it is the middle of the 22nd Century, say about 2175, and race relations on Earth and other planets have cooled down after a multi-planet ethnic war within their own planets which resulted in the deaths of millions of its citizens across the galaxy! But, that's only the beginning of the story!

On Earth, four young and smart black individuals (this time a family of three brothers and a sister) have just lost their parents five years ago after they participated in the last remnants of Earth's race war: 18 year-old Cosmo, his twin sister, 18 year-old Venus, and their 15-year-old brothers Splashdown and Countdown, when they discover a malfunctioning and highly intelligent rocket with transformational abilities.

Now to take a cue from the myriad of giant-robot shows we have or have had on the air in the last 25 years, the siblings decide to transport the rocket to their garage, where they reconstruct and pimp out the rocket with all sorts of technological equipment, resulting in a new and improved version of the former warhead. Suddenly activating itself and transforming into its robot mode, it begins to talk, and Cosmo grants it the name of Ricky the Robot. But, when it changes to its high-speed rocket mode, it becomes the super-fast Rickety Rocket!

And now, with the help of his four companions, Rickety Rocket leaves Earth and travels all across the galaxy, meeting new friends and allies, and fighting all sorts of evil along the way, maybe solving a mystery or two, as they become the galaxy's newest protectors of peace and justice in the 22nd century!

Next: Fangface, and Skysurfer Strike Force!

I checked with at least two online sources, and, yes, Joe Ruby & Ken Spears get a creator's credit for ElectraWoman & DynaGirl. Now it is a question of if they can reacquire the characters from the Kroffts.

That is going to be a very tricky process indeed. But if they can do it, then an animated series based on it would be done by those guys would be possible. Meanwhile, enjoy my take on Rickety Rocket.

Might as well put my old idea here:

A "Teen-Titans" style show with Hanna-Barbera Characters called "The HBs". Consisting of 5 characters,

Secret Squirrel - Leader and Spy
Touche Turtle - Sword master
Ricochet Rabbit - Gun master
Hong Kong Phooey - Kung-fu Master
Atom Ant - Flying and Strength

Unlike "Loonatics Unleashed", The characters will retain their original looks. (Maybe give Secret his '93 "2 Stupid Dogs" look.) And sometimes, Other HB Characters appear and give them a hand. And not somebody predictable like Scooby-Doo or Fred Flintstone, I mean cameos like in "Yogi's Treasure Hunt".
Characters like their past sidekicks (Morocco Mole, Dum Dum, Droop-a-Long) Snooper and Blabber, Yippee Yappee and Yahooey, Even Scooter Rabbit (From the Quick Draw McGraw cartoon of the same name). Sounds like an OK idea.

Fangface marks his 30th anniversary this season. Let's give it a spin.....

Sherman Fangsworth (Fangface) and friends have grown up and split up. Kim & Biff went on to college. Sherm wanted to go, too, but realized that no matter where he'd go, he might not be able to control Fangface's appearances, so he opted to find work. He & Pugs moved to, of all places, Hawaii. We know that in season 2 (part of the Plastic Man show), Sherm's nephew is also a werewolf (Fangpuss).

We pick up the story nearly 30 years after the gang's final adventure. Kim is married with 2 kids. Biff's been married twice, divorced twice, trying to forge a career as a freelance writer for a magazine. After spending 5 years in Hawaii, Pugs & Sherm returned to the mainland, taking gigs as freelance investigators. However, As Fangface, Sherm was killed around 20 years ago battling a phony werewolf who'd framed him for a series of crimes. The faux wolf was caught, but Sherm had paid the ultimate price. His nephew is the new Fangface, but doesn't have an interest in eating Pugs like his uncle did. Instead, Fangface II is a little more mature and intelligent, something we could never say about Sherm.

Nuff said right there. In fact, this new Fangface possesses a greater degree of superhuman strength and speed, unlike his uncle. In this version Pugs joins Fangface II along with Kim's two kids, who are named Kara and Kevin, in all-new adventures. In addition to the high degree of intelligence and maturity in werewolf mode, he is also capable of complete speech, similar to that of Beast from the X-Men comic book series. Also, look for Kim and her husband to join their children and the former Fangpuss in those same all-new adventures as well, since her husband is a specialist on lycanthropy, and will help the new Fangface on certain cases.

Skysurfer Strike Force:

The youngest of the classic Ruby-Spears cartoon shows (premiered in 1996), I see this series as a two-hour movie which finally solves the mystery behind Adam Hollister's frame-up and death, but not before something happens that will be the death knell for Cybron and his empire.

You notice how Cerina, Cybron's beautiful daughter, has staying away from her father's battles. Well, She's been plotting her own coup against her father, and Cerina has been uploading secret documents about Adam Hollister's frame-up and death, as well as a flaw in the cyborg brain that the Skysurfers could use to defeat Cybron to Skysurfer One, unbeknownst to Cybron himself!

The information from Cerina allows the Skysurfers: Skysurfer One, Crazy Stunts, Sliced Ice, Air Enforcer, and Soar Loser, to launch one final assault on Cybron's secret bases around the world, resulting in the deaths of many of Cybron's Bio-Borg lieutenants and their soldiers. But as Cybron finally finds out who betrayed him, he is brutally murdered by Lazerette, his only female Bio-Borg, but not before he sees his betrayer - his own daughter, who has created her own group of deadly female Bio-Borgs hell bent on helping her achieve what her father couldn't do: taking over the world!

Now, the Skysurfer Strike Force has a even more dangerous villainess to deal with in Cerina, who has become Lady Cybron! And with her more advanced Femborgs on the loose, the Skysurfers find themselves facing a menace that is next to impossible to defeat, as they must deal with Cerina, her new right-hand Bio-Borg Lazerette, and their new Bio-Femborgs, who have now possessed advanced Skysurfing abilities in addition to far more deadlier weaponry!

Having never seen Skysurfer, I was not sure if it was an original series or something based on a toy line, which was still trendy at the time.

Skysurfer Strike Force was an original series. I don't think they made a toyline for it.

Next up folks: The Heroes of the Rankin-Bass/Telepictures Universe. So aptly named because the action cartoons in this group made between 1984-1989 were developed by Arthur Rankin and Jules Bass for WB's Lorimar-Telepictures unit.

And now: The Rankin-Bass/Telepictures Superhero Universe.

Okay folks. Remember all those Christmas specials that animators Arthur Rankin, Jr. and Jules Bass used to do waaayyy back in the late 60's-mid 70's, and that sickeningly sweet Burl Ives music? Well folks, that represented the very first Rankin-Bass generation of cartoons.

But, as every cartoon fan and historian should know, the mid to late 80's brought about an upgrade in the toonage that came from Rankin-Bass and its eventual partners, Lorimar Telepictures (now part of Warner Brothers), hence the six cartoons being featured here. The first three I will be concentrating on were part of an anthology series that will be turning 22 years old in 2009. It was called the Comic Strip!

Now, if I was to bring back this shortlived gem of a series to the airwaves, I would have the TigerSharks portion of the show removed from the CS roster, since it needs to be its own show so it can join its action-cartoon siblings ThunderCats and Silverhawks as an independent series! Here is the new revamped roster for the Comic Strip as follows:

Camp Mini-Mon: This series from 1987 was one of the initial cartoons of the Comic Strip, about a group of monster kids who attend a summer camp for ghouls and goblins. The way I would revamp this series is more in the lines of X-Men and Drak Pack by making the principal cast: Dracky, Franky, Wolfie, Gill, Mummo, Blanko, Winnifred and Melvin all teenagers, and the camp becoming a training center for the next generation of ghosts, ghouls, goblins, monsters and magical creatures of all kinds. But this time, Caulfield, the talking crow, is actually running the school. Kind of like what Winx Club and many other fantasy based shows are doing right now.

Street Frogs: This part of the Comic Strip aired the same year that the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles premiered on TV, and tried to hone in on the craze! But with the musical numbers on the show in addition to the action, it resembled a cross between Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids, and Jem and the Holograms with a dash of Turtles thrown in for good measure! So, that's what I'll do to them in the update: make Big Max, Moose the Loose, Spider, Honey Love and Dr. Slick a crimefighting amphibian hip-hop group, much like the human Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kids, or Josie and the Pussycats used to do back in the Hanna-Barbera days of the 1970's.

Karate Kat: I don't know what Arthur and Jules were smoking when they made this segment, but it must have been some good stuff because this feline-themed series was a direct successor to H-B's Hong Kong Phooey to a certain extent. The way that I would revamp this crack-up of a series is that it would take a more darker and serious tone, starting with the death of Big Mama and Karate Kat finally inheriting the Klaws Detective Agency. But that's not before she pulls a big shocker on the feline hero! I'll get back to you on that later, but it will affect KK and his friends in their new adventures against Big Papa and his goons.

Seeing as I hardly, if at all, watched Comic Strip, this is open to much interpretation. Ted Wolf, you'll recall, created the Thundercats, who supposedly are in for a revival after DC/Wildstorm produced a series of miniseries & 1-shots earlier this decade, including a memorable crossover with, of all things, Battle of the Planets. Don't know if Wolf also had a hand in the Silverhawks. I'll let you take care of this, Ken.

Damn Straight. Ted Wolf did create ThunderCats. but don't worry, I'll deal with SilverHawks since I got the Volume One DVD already. So get ready for a thorough discussion on those partly metal - partly real cyborgs later in the thread.

And Now... ThunderCats - The Next Generation

Look guys, ThunderCats is about to turn 25 in 2010, and despite the excellent ending to the series, where New Thundera was finally restored after a cataclysmic event, I think that the series itself would benefit from new adventures set between New Thundera and Third Earth.

It's twenty years after the final episode of the series. Lion-O has become a far more endearing and beloved Lord of the Thundercats, even to the point that he has become King of New Thundera, with his fellow Thundercats, who have become part of a new Council of Omens on the planet. But the peace that has come to New Thundera all these years is about to come to an end, as the Ancient Spirits of Evil have returned to unleash a dangerous new dark evil upon the planet, the likes of which the original ThunderCats have never seen since they dealt with Mumm-Ra throughout the entire series as a powerful group of elemental warlords make their move on the ThunderCats and the New Thunderians.

But, even as the Lion-O-led Council of Omens prepares to fight off these elemental demons, WilyKat and WilyKit have become full-grown ThunderCats, as they begin to start up a new generation of ThunderCats to take up the fight should the original Cats fall! Among Kit and Kat's new recruits are:

Lynxana - A beautiful young New Thunderian who probably hails from the same clan as Lynx-O, she is a fierce warrior and highly skilled martial artist who studied under Lynx-O prior to her recruitment to the new Thundercats team. Her principal weapon is the sai, which she uses with deadly precision. Her look is similar to that of Marvel's Elektra to a certain extent.

Pantera - In the interim between the old series and this new version, Panthro got busy with a beautiful warrior woman from his own clan. the result was a young daughter named Pantera. She is a wet-behind-the ears cub who's always trying to measure up to her parents, especially her father whom she idolizes! But, her reckless actions at times not only could endanger her own person, but her family and the other ThunderCats as well. She, like her father, is a talented designer and her principal weapon is a three-section staff.

Cru-Gar - Resembling a huge cougar, he is the tallest and strongest new ThunderCat at seven feet tall. A gentle giant, he's always working alongside his mentors Panthro and Ben-Gali in the workshop building new vehicles for the various denizens of New Thundera and the ThunderCats as well. His principal weapon is a giant battleaxe. I consider him to be the Paul Bunyan of the new group.

Spots - Strangely enough, this spotted leopard belongs to a family that is directly connected to Cheetara's clan (being that leopards and cheetahs have similar traits). The most promising of the new crew, Spots is usually seen with his mentor Cheetara learning how to run at superhuman speed. Spots has a special ability that is most useful in battle: He can split himself into multiple copies at will in addition to his speed! His principal weapon is a collapsible bladed scythe.

Minx and Manx - Not to be confused with the Jem character of the same name, Minx and her brother Manx are the first musicians to ever become ThunderCats. Resembling a Siamese/Manx hybrid, Minx is a flirtatious beauty who has a mad-on for Wily Kat, sometimes to the point of obsession, while her brother Manx's romantic feelings toward WilyKit are more genuine, since they met each other a year before he became a member of the new team. But these twins are not only talented musicians, they are quick-thinking fighters whose skills in the art of stealth and cunning rival that of the former ThunderKittens themselves. Also, they have a psychic rapport with each other that is similar to the SilverHawks' Steelwill and Steelheart. Minx's weapon is the crossbow, while Manx's weapon is a gauntlet that shoots explosive shurikens at enemies.

This is only part one of my ThunderCats revamp. There is more in my write-up, but for the sake of turning this into a long post, I'll do part two later.

Next: ThunderCats, Part Two.

Let's move back to Hanna-Barbera.

2009 marks the 40th anniversaries for the following:

Cattanooga Cats
Scooby-Doo
Dastardly & Muttley
Perils of Penelope Pitstop

The morons at CN/Boomerang won't bother commissioning movies or specials to mark the occasions. We've already gone over probable revival scenarios for the Cats, Penelope, and the Vulture Squadron. With a live-action Scooby prequel earmarked for CN later this year, that's no real means to mark the 40th anniversary. An animated miniseries is needed here.

The story begins 4 years after the conclusion of the What's New series (I think we can all forget Shaggy & Scooby-Doo Get a Clue!).

The city of Coolsville is getting a major facelift, and for good reason. Two of its most famous and prominent citizens, Mystery Inc. co-founders Daphne Blake & Fred Jones, are finally getting married. Not only is the whole town invited, but invitations have gone out to some special guests, including Goober & the Ghost Chasers and the Clue Club. Josie & the Pussycats are on a world tour and can't make it (since WB doesn't have the license to use them), so the Hex Girls will be providing the music at the reception. Unsurprisingly, Velma is the maid of honor, and Norville "Shaggy" Rogers is the best man. Scooby-Doo? He's kind of busy with a family reunion, as cousins Scooby-Dum & Scooby-Dee are in town, along with nephew Scrappy.

Now, last we saw Scrappy, he'd turned evil and tried to gain revenge on his uncle and his former friends (in the first live-action movie). 7 years later, Scrappy is out of prison, and has seemingly reformed, returning to Yucca Flats to start his own detective agency.

With a week before the wedding, strange events begin to take place. One by one, Daphne, Velma, Shaggy, & Fred all disappear. Scrappy, who'd arrived some 10 days before the wedding, is immediately considered a suspect, since he might still want revenge. After Fred & Shaggy vanish, Scrappy is arrested by the town sheriff. Scooby bails him out. It's up to them, and fellow canine sleuths Woofer, Whimper, Goober, & Buford, to find the rest of the team. Determined to prove his innocence, Scrappy begins searching for clues. Demonstrating that even dogs know how to use computers, Scrappy searches the internet to see about some of the MI team's old enemies (pre-2002, that is). Finding that most of them are either retired, or at the very worst, dead, Scrappy rules them out as suspects. Meanwhile, the Clue Club and friends pick up the investigation. Without Scooby & Mystery Inc., Dottie points out, none of them would've gone into the PI business.

At the same time, two old enemies, Mr. Hyde & the Creeper, resurface, but are behaving rather irregularly. A 3rd foe, the Gator Ghoul, pops up just 3 days before the scheduled wedding, also exhibiting uncharacteristic behavior. Scrappy & Dottie have joined forces, and both realize that with the original people behind these villains not around, someone else is either trying to spoil the wedding, or playing a very elaborate prank. Two can play that game.

The next night, Scrappy encounters the Gator Ghoul, and leads it on a merry chase to the Coolsville Amusement Park. Coincidentally, Hyde & Creeper have also been using the park as a hideout. Ghoul falls into a trap constructed by Scrappy & Dottie, and is unmasked as............Daphne. Fred & Shaggy were Hyde & Creeper, respectively, while Velma remained in the manager's office of the abandoned amusement park, long since closed. The MI team had their suspicions about Scrappy, and wanted to test him. It also gave Fred, Daph, & Shaggy a chance to see "how the other half lives", wearing the costumes of their old enemies. Scrappy knew the park was abandoned, as he'd passed by on the way into the city. He & Dottie did the research, and determined that no one had been kidnapped. The MI team, it turns out, had used their savings to buy the park, planning to re-open it the following spring.

Scrappy is cleared of the kidnapping charges, and hailed once more as a hero. Fred admits that he, Daphne, Shaggy, & Velma had pooled their resources to buy the park after learning it'd been closed some years back. Scrappy has proven himself to be a capable detective after all, and the reigns of Mystery Inc have been passed to him, with Uncle Scooby as a partner. The Scrappy Agency in Yucca Flats is closed, with Scrappy moving east. Meanwhile, the wedding goes off without a hitch, as Fred & Daphne tie the knot at last.

As a long time Scooby fan the idea's kind of interesting but here's what I would have done:

Many other show have tried this gimmick so maybe it could work with Scooby, first off the whole Scrappy thing in the live action movie with him being evil, purely the writers of the movie, I watched Scooby and Scrappy on Boomerang this weekend(and I will most of the rest of the weekends this month) and after much thought he's basically not evil but just a little bit eager, in the later episodes though he did prove himself to be a good detective.

Here's my mini-series idea: A few days before the wedding the gang gets called off to investigate another mystery, but they get stuck somewhere or trapped somewhere, the day of the wedding comes with all the gang's family in town plus Vincent Van Ghoul(remember him?), Flim Flam(from the 13 Ghosts), and all of Scooby's relatives are also in town plus Scrappy Doo as well to see the big event.

However, everyone at the wedding realizes that the bride and groom have not arrived yet or Shaggy, Velma and Scooby.

Also invited are as the other person mentioned Goober and the Ghost Chasers, Speed Buggy, Captain Caveman and the Teen Angels, the Clue Club and several other H-B teenage sleuth teams, all of the teen sleuths plus Scrappy realizing that the gang is missing head out in search of them, they eventually find them and the gang hops in the Mystery Machine after solving the mystery and heads back for the wedding, and they get there just in time.

Fred and Daphne finally get married and(how's this for a plot twist) decide to keep Mystery Inc. together but in a limited capacity.

Basically the gang still gets together to solve mysteries every so osften but mostly Fred and Daphne are solving mysteries by themselves as husband and wife detectives(kinda the old tv show Hart to Hart or anyother tv or radio show that has husband and wife detectives, I can't really think of any). That's my idea for a min-series, any thoughts?

Interesting ideas, as far as an all-star mystery, but the main two things:

The evil Scrappy was fake: so if this would pick up on the live action movie, (which is not considered canonical, BTW), then it would be him getting cleared of that; which is what I always hoped would happen in the third live action movie (before they decided to set it in the past)

And absolutely:
NO FRED AND DAPHNE MARRIAGE!!
That too was a non-canonical joke, beginning with the Bravo spoof, and though it did creep into some of the movies afterward, this should not ever be taken seriously. THAT to me would ruin the show forever! (much worse than anything Scrappy did!) I liked the how because it didn't have gooey romance or jealousy like the Josie and Funky Phantom gangs did. If part of the appeal of the show to boys (including those who may identify with Shaggy) was seeing the attractive Daphne, then you wouldn't want to make her belong to Fred. Likewise, Plasticman was ruined for me by wedding him to Penny.

Your first point of the evil Scrappy being fake is basically what I said in my previous post; as for your second point no Fred and Daphne marriage, you've got to be kidding.

Scooby has been around for 40 years now(officially 40 in September) and there has been numerous Scooby series and movies, heck some tv shows cartoon and live-action alike are good even though two of the main characters are married, take some of H-B's most succesful shows: The Flintstones and The Jetsons, there are married couples in those shows and they are still successful and popular after over 40 years of both being on the air; or how about a succesful live-action show that some Scooby elements like Bewitched, the main characters(Darrin and Samantha) were married and that show ran for 8 years and is still poular in reruns.

As I have said before I am a huge Scooby fan and have been only since 1995 or 1996 so i'm one of the younger Scooby fans on here.

I think having Fred and Daphne would be great for the Scooby franchise, it would be a new chapter in the franchise's history and it could open up all kinds of new oppritunities for the show and the characters, Fred and Daphne could be like Hart to Hart or Nick and Nora Charles of the old movies and radio series, or any other tv or radio show with a married couple as detectives; you could do this and you could have Shaggy, Velma and Scooby join them on various adventures.

Or you could have Fred and Daphne married plus have Shaggy, Scooby and Velma still solving mysteries all the time, heck you could even have the gang solving regular mysteries only with no ghosts and monsters kind of like having the gang graduating into a different class of detectives like the Clue Club; solving cases like bank robberies, art thefts, things like that.

To get an example of cases that they could solve, check out the Harry Nile radio series produced by Jim French a Seattle area radio producer and former talk show host, some of his cases would be right up Scooby and friends alley in terms of non-ghost and monster based mysteries.

Overall, I think my idea and hobbyfan's ideas are pretty good, basically the characters have been around for 40 years and I think it's time for this to happen, anybody who doesn't think this, well that's your opinion.

Yes, other series worked with people being married, but what I was saying was that it would mess up the group dynamic in Scooby. They were friends, and none were more tied to another than anyone else (except perhaps Shaggy and Scooby, and even that was not played up as much in the beginning). That just sounds like such a distraction, and it would take all the focus off of Scooby. (At least Scrappy kept the attention on Scooby, because he was always praising him or trying to get him to be brave). Sorry, but Scooby was just not about this. again, it was just a joke used in a few stories. I believe it even began fading away as time went on, in the later DTV's, WNSD, and totally absent in GAC.

As for the evil Scrappy being fake; I meant in the actual story, it would be revealed to be fake.

Ah, I see what you were going for; true the gang have pretty much always been friends and I suppose this would mess up the group dynamic.

However, I still think the gang could start solving more Clue Club style cases that is to say cases/mysteries where the fake ghosts and monsters angle could till be there but not as prevelant to the story.

I actually thought about this, if you took out the fake ghosts and monsters angle out of some of the original episodes like the first one and some of the SDWAY episodes, then it would be more like Clue Club style or regular mysteries.

Let's just say the original idea of Scooby was changed just a little to make the mysteries more like the Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew books or tv show(incidentally that show is on the Retro Television Network which our cable system gets and some of the cases on that show could be one that Scooby and friends could solve), I think if that was the case the show would still be popular, it would still feature the regular characters and it could still be somewhat comedic but you could fit more of a mystery type show into it.

You might be thinking of something like Mr. & Mrs. North, which was a radio/TV precursor to Hart to Hart, for example. Maybe we can meld our ideas together. We'll soon see if Kenny weighs in on this.

Thank You hobbyfan, I couldn't for the life of me think of the name of that series. BTW, check out my other posts in this thread, especially about Scooby and friends solving Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew type mysteries.

Hobbyfan, this is getting interesting. Now a question for you.

Could the Cattanooga Cats exist as a musical group in the Swat Kats continuity, since they can visit Megakat City at any time?

Let me weigh in on this myself: The idea of Fred and Daphne getting married is an interesting idea. In fact, it would breathe new life into the Scooby franchise. This idea would also strengthen the Mysteries Incorporated franchise, since Velma would take over in a capacity similar to Horatio Caine from CSI: Miami, as not only will they deal with the standard fake ghost situations, but with Scooby and Shaggy graduating into the field of crime scene investigation and criminology alongside Velma, while Fred and Daphne would become globetrotting detectives with a side gig as hosts of their own Unsolved Mysteries-type TV series. And with the money that Norville Rogers inherited, Mysteries Inc. would be international, allowing them work with many of the mystery-based crimefighters of the Hanna-Barbera universe.

Ah, I see what you were going for; true the gang have pretty much always been friends and I suppose this would mess up the group dynamic. The idea of changing the ghosts like that I have no problem with. Like it keeps changing format (hence, the 7 minute comedy shorts of the Scrappy era, and the last, GAC series) because the phony ghosts format does get worn after a while. so some of those ideas, such as Nancy Drew or clue Club would probably be good, because it would still be mystery, yet it would be different. I always said, Scrappy might have been good in Dottie's role, as someone who is left behind to mind the data or whatever, but then always ends up getting involved later on. To pair them together in an allstar story as one of you suggested would actually make a lot of sense.

Kenny:cool: They really woundn't have to be married to do that. Just like they were often the team in splitups without being married. (And this is the source of all the "romance' jokes, though there were other splitup arrangements, especially as time went on). So those would just be new assignments for them.

Kenny that is a very good idea, I wholeheartedly would support that idea. Plus this is exactly the type of thing that I have brought up, having Shaggy and Scooby work with Velma and having Fred and Daphne going out on their own. Plus the gang could get back together every once in a while to solve some cases, as for the Shaggy angle; I assume your talking about the Scooby Doo Get A Clue, I don't know if I would go with that angle per say, I would still have Mystery Inc. going international and working with the mystery based crimefighters of Hanna-Barbera, but I would probably have Daphne using her wealth instead of Shaggy because if it was Daphne that would be closer to the canon of Scooby Doo then Shaggy. I myself don't really count the Scooby Doo get a clue or the first live-action movie as canonical, I do count WNSD because it was set in modern times and PNSD because it was sort of a flashback series if you will. But good ideas nonetheless.

Well, the notion of Shaggy's family as rich didn't start with GAC, but actually goes way back to the Comedy Movies, when they and the Globetrotters visited Shaggy's uncle who owned a huge mansion. In a similar vein, another uncle owned a castle he had moved from Scotland in the Camelot episode.

Very astute points, guys. It could work both ways, with Daphne using her family's money to produce the show, and supply the traveling expenses for her and Fred's globetrotting adventures, and Shaggy using his monetary inheritance, in addition to the pimped out Mystery Machine and the high-tech mansion/crime lab, to restart Mysteries Inc. as an arm of the Coolsville Police Deparment.

There is room for the undercover musical group division of Mysteries Inc., called Mysteries Five, as Fred, Daphne, Velma, Scooby and Shaggy could pose as this musical act to help crimefighting bands such as Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kids and the Hex Girls deal with supernatural and non-supernatural threats within the music industry (even the Cattanooga Cats, the Impossibles and Jabberjaw could come in for an adventure or two with Scooby and Co.).

The way I'd set it up is to relocate Daph & Fred to NYC, which would be the national base for the rebooted Mystery Inc.. Shaggy & Scooby stay in Coolsville. Scrappy returns to Yucca Flats to tie his agency in with MI. Jabberjaw & his band are set in the future, so they won't be part of the mix, although that didn't stop Jabber from being part of Laff-A-Lympics and Yogi's Space Race. As for Velma? She too relocates to NYC, moving her bookstore (remember that from Zombie Island?) to Greenwich Village. 10 years ago, Cartoon Network experimented with "cybercomics", comic books published on the channel's website. One such item featured the Wonder Twins, and to this day I've regretted never printing this out.

This is what I remember. Jayna took up aerobics, and even had her own studio. Zan was into new age remedies. The civilian identities created in the comics were gone. As explained in the story, Gleek moved to Hollywood to do some stunt work. Jayna was now sporting glasses, taking her cue from Clark Kent (aka Superman). The sibs are appearing on some talk show when the interview is interrupted by a robot spoiling for a fight. Turns out said robot is operated by one Marvin White & Wonder Dog, jealous of the Twins' successes. Wendy Harris is now a tabloid magazine reporter, but gets left in the lurch after the fight's over when Marv, realizing his error, leaves with the Twins.

Now, let's pick up the story. We learn that a certain Gotham City millionaire helped Jayna with the finances needed to start her business. I don't need to tell you who that might be, do I?;) :p :D

Zan is finding out that all this new age stuff isn't working, but he & Marvin have something in common (both are pretty good with mechanics), so they open a garage, which comes in pretty handy. With Superman away on so many out-of-town cases, Metropolis still needs a little super-help, so the boys decide to open their own detective agency on the side. Jayna factors in as covert ops, doing recon in her various animal/insect forms. Gradually, there's an attraction between Marv and Jayna. Meanwhile, Wendy is in NYC, but looking for work when her tabloid show is cancelled. She eventually moves to Gotham, where her uncle Harvey used to be a detective. She enrolls at the GCPD academy, hoping to make amends for some poor career decisions.

Six months pass. Rumors circulate of the Twins coming out of retirement, which gets the attention of a certain Metropolis newspaper. Jimmy Olsen lands an "exclusive" interview. No sign of Marvin, and with good reason. He's at the Daily Planet, hoping to speak to his uncle Perry about some advertising for his garage. Perry, however, is out of town at a convention, and Marv is told to wait until he returns. He leaves the Planet building and sees a police cruiser and an ambulance speeding by. Marv hops in his car and decides to follow. The trail leads back to Marvin's apartment, where he finds Wonder Dog----dead. Someone had tried to break into the apartment, but tripped the burglar alarm. Wonder responded and engaged the burglar, but was shot three times. The burglar left without taking anything.

After learning of Wonder's death, the Twins take the case, despite Marvin's insistence on handling it himself. Jayna briefly assumes Wonder's form to try to comfort her new boyfriend, but he brushes her off. Marv checks the security cameras and finds out the would-be thief is just a kid, not more than maybe 16-17. Four days later, Marv, working alone, responds to a police call on his scanner about a thief holed up at the Metropolis Youth Center. Turns out to be the same kid, nervous and shaking, even as he's using a gun to hold the police at bay. The youth takes aim at Marvin, and that prompts a doberman (Jayna, natch) to intercept, disarming the thief. The boy was on drugs, and needed money to feed his habit. He gets sent off to drug rehab before going to prison.

Realizing that Jayna risked her neck to save his, Marv gets up the courage, and, on Valentine's Day (naturally), proposes to her. Where that goes from there is.....to be continued.

Wow! I had heard of some comic where Marvin became a bad guy (It was first mentioned to me in the aftermath of the whole Scrappy-becomes-bad-guy fisaco from the live movie), but I never realized it went that far! Marvin and Jayna; LOL! Her and her brother's bantering was enough; what would those two be like together, as Marvin often talked bigger than Zan, but could not act upon it at all, like at least Zan could to some extent. So then do they pair Wendy with Zan? Since I always liked Wendy and Marvin better; yet the Wonder Twins made more sense as Superfriends; like how about combining them, essentially? Like perhaps the twins could take them to Exxor and they can receive the same powers as well.

I had always said that Captain Mystery should have just been Marvin in disguise. They were not even all that different in appearance.

There was never a follow-up to the cybercomic from 10 years ago, so I had to come up with something.

Things to understand. In the comics, Zan & Jayna were given civilian identities, passed off as exchange students from somewhere near Switzerland. To effect the disguise, Jayna would take on the form of a blonde female. All Zan had to do was spray on some blond hair dye, and fix his hair to hide the points in his ears. From the few "solo" stories they had in the comics, both had classmates romantically involved with them. I'm working on that part of the equation, and contemplating whether or not Jayna would marry Marvin, or dump him for Jimmy Olsen or someone else.

FWIW, in Super Friends (1st series) 28, Jimmy guest-starred and actually was the one to KO Felix Faust, the villain du jour. In order to revert to his normal self from a werewolf, he needed a girl to kiss him. Guess who got the honor? Yup, Jayna. In those days, continuity wasn't as important as it is now. If it was, maybe we'd have seen Jayna out on a date with Jimmy or even with Robin (Dick Grayson), before Starfire ever entered the DCU. Larry Hama (GI Joe, among others) wrote the cybercomic, BTW.

Speaking of Hanna-Barbera musical bands, the previous post on the Impossibles has given me an idea for voice talent:

Springer - Nick Jonas
Fluid - Joe Jonas
Stone - Kevin Jonas
Replica - Vanessa Hudgens
Flame - Ashley Tisdale

Now, I understand that they are currently Disney talent, but if they ever leave the Disney stable and decide to branch out on their own, then they would be perfect for the new Impossibles.

Since this would now be a five-person team/band, let's meet the two new members:

Stone, or Stone Man, is a large, burly, and superstrong fellow with a heart of gold. He has the power to change into a stone golem that can grow in size. When normal, he is the sax player in the band.

Flame, or Flame Girl, is a beautiful redhead whose power, the ability to transmutate into living flame and fly among many heat-based powers, is the female opposite of Fluid, who happens to be her boyfriend and one who possesses the same abilities, but with water. She is the keyboardist/keytarist and vocalist of the band who is always in competition with Replica, who is the lead vocalist and Fluid's sister.

1. The point about Daphne using her family's money to produce the show could work, in fact I brought that up in a previous post

2. Shaggy using his inheritance, that kind of gets close to the Get A Clue thing, although it could work out like this: let's say another one of his uncles passes away and he leaves everything to Shaggy(I was thinking the one who was featured in the camelot episode), so that might work.

3. I don't know about that one, plus you probably couldn't have Jabberjaw and his friends visit them because that show was suppose to be set in 2076 and it's 2009, although you could have them time travel or something along those lines and visit them in 2076.

True, and vey good ideas hobbyfan, maybe since Fred and Daph are in NYC now this coule be a jumping off point for a "New" Scooby Comedy Movies, partly because a lot of stars work in NYC or you could use some of NYC's favorite athletes(remember that a couple real life atheletes appeared on WNSD: Mike Piazza and Brett Hull, you could some one from the Yankees like Derek Jeter in this case), who knows. Plus you could expand on the idea of Fred and Daph doing the TV show and meeting various news reporters and having them help out on a few cases(Tom Brokaw, Brian Williams, Katie Couric, etc..).

I suppose, although I wonder what Shaggy and Scooby would do if thy came back to visit them? On that same subject I thought about doing a fan fic a while back with a different ending to the movie. My version still had Crystal and Amber leaving at the end but with a twist; which is this at some point before the gang faced off with the crew from the SALF station, Crystal and Amber give Shaggy and Scooby two Peace Sign Medallions similar to the ones they wear, after Crystal is trapped under the drill, she gives Shaggy and Scooby instructions and Shaggy and Scooby use their medallions to transform into male versions of the alien species that Crystal and Amber are. Hopefully everyone will know what i'm talking about in terms of the movie plot.

Josie is an Archie Comics character. H-B only had the license, and Universal, which made the movie, was the last licensee. Warners, of course, now has the rights to Jabberjaw.

Developmental prototypes of final characters...
I don't know how that works, and if they were copyrighted. You figure the final production characters were what would be copyrighted, but on the other hand, you think they would prevent someone from copying the prototypes and making a competing series from them. If anyone has any of the books or sites that has pictures of the characters, look and see if any of them have copyrights. I know the old model sheets of WB cartoons had them.

I think That this show would be better set in 2012 to tie in with the ancient cultures end of the cakander, you could then add the aspect of their gods being aliens rleased from suspended animation as some of the villains from week to week
I got the information on this from the filmography listed on the Ruby-Spears official website.

Jem: The Next Generation - Over 20 or 25 years later,Don't know about the other characters, haven't thought that through. But I think if things continued the way they were, this could happen. Rio and Jerrica get married have a daughter named after Jerrica's mother Jacqui. Rio still doesn't know Jem's true identiy. One day Jacqui accidently finds out her mother's secret, and confronts her about it and she admits the truth. Jacqui convinces her to allow to follow in foot steps and forms her alto ego Jes, the mysterous daughter to the mysterious Jem. And forms her own bands with the children of the other Holograms.

What we have here basicly in the Pachico family, is exactly what we have with the Long family in American Dragon: Jake Long. I don't know if you familar with this show, it is more recent show that was on Disney Channel. The main character has a secret life that has to do with magic, his mother, sister and the entire material side of his family knows about it, but his father doesn't He is forced to keep this secret from his dad till the last episode when he finally finds out. And it is all because his mother is too scared to tell the truth (sound familar), and he is pushed into the corner.

If Jerrica continues on this path, than she will pass some undo pressure and burdon to her children, just like Susan Long did to her kids.

Zoombie, let me help you out on Jem: the Next Generation.

Since you set this new series in 2010, Jerrica Benton is now Jerrica Pacheco, having been married to Rio Pacheco. She has two girls, Jacqui Lynn and Jessica. You will also notice that I changed Jacqui Lynn Pacheco's stage name from Jes to Jewel in your quote since it made sense. Jacqui is 19 and Jessica is 17. both have purple and pink hair.

Kimber Benton is now Kimber Harrison, having married Sean Harrison. They have a boy, Jack Emmett, named after both his grandparents Jacqui and Emmett, and a girl, Emily Jacqueline. Jack is the drummer in Jewel's band. Jack is 18 and Emily is 15. Both have red and black hair.

Aja Lin is now Aja Phillips, having married Craig Phillips. This marriage is one of the strongest of this series, primarily because it is the one that links the Holograms together with the Misfits and the Bluebloods via Craig's sister Mary (Stormer). They have three children: Britta Michelle, 17, Jonathan Craig, 17, and Chynna Blue, 14. All three have different shades of blue hair and together form the family band Perfect Blue.

Shana Elmsford is now Shana Julian, having married film director Anthony Julian. It is the strongest marriage of the series. They have two children: Antonio James, 18, and Cynthia Shana, 14. Cyndi, as she's called, is the guitarist in Jewel's band. Both have black hair.

Carmen Allonso was the last one to be married, as she finally got together with Luis Geraldo. They are now living in Mexico with their three children: Elisa, 14; Carlos, 13; and Rio Luis, 11. All of them are musically talented.

Now for the Misfit children:

Phyllis Gabor is now Phyllis Danson, having married Glenn Danson after a long absence and courtship. They run the now-successful Danson Music Group, which emcompasses Misfits Music and Stormer Sound (formerly Stingers Sound). They have four children, twin boys Glenn Harvey and Phillip Glenn, 17, and twin girls Patricia Alice and Mary Phylicia, 15.

Mary Phillips is in a committed relationship with fellow Misfit Roxanne Pelligrini. They had adopted a little girl named Arielle, who is now 16.

Sheila Burns is now Sheila Dominus. She married a jazz saxophonist named John "Domino" Dominus, who was killed in action three years after she found out that John was the superhero Night Man. She has one son, John Eric, 13.

Constance Montgomery was even lucky in love herself when she married a young actor named Billy Moorehead and had a 12 year old son, Darrin Robert, and a 10-year-old daughter, Samantha Agnes. They live in Indianapolis, not too far from Mulberry, Indiana.*

(*see the Bewitched connection within the names?)

Eric Raymond was killed in a car crash in 1998

And the Stingers, they're still together, having married nobody.

Once again you help me with my one weak point in creativity, that is naming character.

Points I want to add, Jacqui / Jewel has a boyfriend (Speaking of which, I would like to see Jessie together with either Glenn Harvey or Phillip Glenn, I love the idea of the children of old enemies being a couple) , and just to prove she is not like her mother, he knows her true idenity. Which is kind of rebellious in her own way.

And I have an episode idea, in Jacqui and Synergy, go back in time to the 80's, and which she plans to make sure Rio finds out Jem true idenity. Similar to AD:JL episode "Hero Of The Hourglass". I guess it would be a crossover with the original series, and she will probably run into Eric Raymond, who Jacqui never heard of and has no idea he is a family enemy, will try to take advantage of her goal.

Another episode I thought, MH1 (a play on VH1, since VTV was a play on MTV, switch the letters around) wants to do a televised Guitar Hero competition between the Holograms and Misfits. Will they all the members agree to reunite? If so, can Pizzazz and the rest of the Misfits resist the erge to cheat?

I have the antogonist band for the show, called The Radicals, it is four piece multy gender band, not related to anyone from original series, there are two guys and two girls in the band, they think the children of the Holograms, the Misfits, and the other bands from the original series, are just lucky to be able to get breaks because of their parents, they are like Misfits in they have no respect for the past, they refer to the Holograms and Misfits as the gessers of rock, as well as their talent lets them get away with being jerks. They came from rough beginnings, and didn't have the fortunite upbringing that Jewel and the others had, and because of that they have a false sense of entitlement and justification in cheating, which they think it is just evening the odds. The lead singer and leader is male is a cross between Riot and Pizzazz. He is arrogant and has sense of superiority, but also full of bitterness. He will flirt with Jewel at times, but doesn't let his attraction to her effect his desire to prove his superiority. They are signed to Danson Music Group, because as I prevously said their talent lets them get away with their disrescpetful attitude.

That gives me an idea for the Radicals. The lead singer, Ramrod, is Christopher Marx. He is named for Jem writer Christy Marx. The guitarist, Rumble, is Francesca Welker. She is named for legendary voice actor Frank Welker. And Ruckus and Rash, Linden Dangcil and Paulina Dini, are named for actress Linda Dangcil and Jem (and Batman: the Animated Series) writer Paul Dini. They're the drummer and keyboardist of the Radicals.

Jessica Marlene Pacheco should be with Phillip Danson. To be sarcastic about it, Jessie's mother is named Jerrica, and Phillip's mother is named Phyllis, aka Pizzazz. So it makes sense. Plus, it'll call for some great misadventures in future episodes.

I will call Jacqui's boyfriend Eugene McMullen. He is a dreamy guy reminiscent of Heath Ledger, but he has his own secret, for he is the son of Destro and the Baroness, two of COBRA's most dangerous characters from Jem's brother series, G.I. Joe! It is one of the reasons that he knows Jacqui's secret life because Jacqui knows his, and it makes for some interesting adventures when Destro and the Baroness make special appearances in the series as the heads of a military conglomerate looking to find out the secret of the new Synergy computer.

Great ideas. The Radicals attitude towards the old bands, as well as the other bands, that is more of the lead singer Christopher Marx attitude, and they follow whatever he says or thinks. I got the idea of the name of the band The Radicals from a wrestling gang called The Radiculz. Iroinic that you named the leader Christopher, as the leader of the Radiculz was Chris Beniot, the same first name.

Also one of the girls in the Radicals, I guess it could be Rumble (Francesca) is in love with Ramrod, which causes her to have an extra personal distain for Jewel.

As for the MH1 (Music Hits One) operation, a much older Lindsey Pierce is now the head of the VTV networks, which include MH1. Lindsey has a 15-year old son, Landon Pierce, from a one-night stand who was killed two years after he was born.

In this new Jem continuity, the Transformers are heavily involved in all the gang's adventures as Cybertronian technology has made strides in the way the people of Earth cope with life. It also gives me some ideas on bringing in new Autobots who will become the vehicles for Jewel and the Illusions, and some upgrades to Synergy that will allow her to change from holographic computer to robot.

The Radicals on the other hand, will have some new stuff of their own, as Galvatron creates a group of Headmaster Decepticons that will help Ramrod and the band deal with the Illusions in their adventures.

Also, look for another band, a new version of Cold Slither called the Burning Rattlers, led by Zartan's 19-year-old Gothic daughter Zanya, who will play a big part in the Radicals' career as Zanya finds herself attracted to Ruckus, leading to an alliance between the Radicals and Rattlers as they discover Destro's new operation and look to form an alliance with him to ruin the relationship between his son Eugene and Jem's daughter Jewel.

And now for the series that brought Jem into the limelight:

Super Saturday/Sunday:

This anthology series from 1984-1986 was a showcase of a whole bunch of cartoons from the Hasbro family, including Bigfoot, Robotix and of course, Jem.

Now, if I was to redo that whole series, Transformers, G.I. Joe and Jem are out of the question since they had or have their own series already. But, TF and Jem have their own spinoff shows that connect to each other in this new SS series!

Also, the show will follow the lead of the 1988-1989 series Marvel Action Universe (which was 90 minutes in length) by expanding the show to two full hours every weekend and renaming the series Hasbro Action Theatre, hosted by Peter Cullen and Susan Blu. Among the shows on HAT will be:

Transformers: Challenge of the Micromasters: In this new junior-league TF series featuring the world's smallest Transformers, former Starlight Girl BaNee O'Carolyn and her father Martin are in for a world of adventure when the father-daughter duo discover a mysterious race of human-sized Transformers called the Micromasters, who are composed of male GoBots and female MiniCons, living under their home! Expect cast members from both Jem and the original G1 TF series to appear in this new series! (Saturday segment)

Ashley and the Starlights: As I mentioned in the Jem thread, this is the series that they should have did instead of Maxie's World! Ashley Larsen is back in this Jem spinoff that focuses on the lives of Ashley and the Starlight Girls, as they deal with school, young love, topical issues, and a friendly rivalry with the kids from Haven House, all done from a kid's point of view. Plus, it is the first modern Jem spinoff to interconnect with a Transformers spinoff, so expect appearances from not only BaNee, but her Micromaster friends as well in this series! (Saturday segment)

Visionaries: Knights of the Magical Light: This series from 1987 will be reshown with all 16 episodes intact. But after that, get ready for a whole new series of episodes, as Galadria and Virulina become the powerful leaders of both the revamped Spectral Knights and Darkling Lords, and a whole new group of warriors and wizards join the originals in all-new adventures! (Sunday segment)

Darci: Supermodel: For the first time ever, the late 1970's Kenner fashion doll gets her own mother(bleep)ing series set in the fashion and modeling industry! More of a sister series to Jem than a spinoff, it focuses on Jerrica Benton's cousin, a young fashion model named Darci Benton, and her friends Erica, Dana, and you guessed it, Regine, as Countess Du Voisen's young protege is spun off into this series dealing with the lives and loves of these young models in 1980's Los Angeles in this new series! (Sunday segment)

Rom the Spaceknight: Also for the first time ever, Hasbro (and Marvel's) cyborg adventurer, Rom the Spaceknight, finally gets his own series about a young warrior from Galador who must adjust to life on Earth while fighting the threat of the Dire Wraiths and other Marvel and Hasbro villains. Expect appearances from everybody in both the Hasbro and Marvel Universes in this new series! (Saturday segment)

The New Warriors: Speaking of Marvel, a joint production of Marvel Animation and Hasbro Entertainment, Marvel's answer to DC's Teen Titans, the New Warriors, finally get their own series for the first time ever as Night Thrasher, Marvel Boy, Speedball, Namorita, Firestar, Darkhawk and Rage star in this adaptation of the hit Marvel comic! (Sunday segment)

Finally, two new fourth-segment series premiere on HAT, as The Great Space Coaster (Saturday) returns with all the original puppet characters joining forces with a brand new generation of characters and live-action hosts in all-new seegments, and a brand-new game show based on the mystery board game Clue (Sunday) debuts as contestants try to solve a different mystery presented to them by the animated versions of the game's characters to win prizes!

So there you have it! It's my idea, so deal with it!

1. In order to make some of the above work, you have to reintroduce the Visionaries, Darci, and the Go-Bots. The Visionaries' series lasted just 1 season due to poor toy sales and the fact that some stations buried the series in poor time slots. Since Darci & the Go-Bots are originally from other companies that Hasbro purchased in the interim (Kenner & Tonka, respectively), market research would be an absolute requirement, and in the case of the Go-Bots, I don't think they'll ever return, since they were originally Tonka's--and Hanna-Barbera's--answer to the Transformers.

2. Rom was originally made by Remco or Coleco, I forget which, so it may not be Hasbro property. His comics run far outstripped his existence on store shelves, I know that much.

3. The Great Space Coaster was a weekday series in the 80's, and had a fairly good run. I'd keep it weekdays.

Good luck selling the Hasbro suits on uniting Jem & the Transformers.

Rom was a Parker Brothers toy. So Hasbro owns the property

The GoBots are part of the Transformers family now, so they can be easily reimagined as a race of Transformers from the Cybertronian moon of Paradron. Hence the gender-specific introduction of the GoBots, who are male, and the MiniCons, who are female.

The way I reimagine Visionaries is that Galadria and Virulina are powerful sorceresses who commanded powerful armies of warriors who are armed with powerful animal totems, much the way Leoric and Darkstorm led those teams of Spectral Knights and Darkling Lords in the original series. Also, in this reimagining of the series, Galadria and Virulina are sisters who rule different parts of the planet Prysmos after the death of their father, the wizard king Merklynn.

And, I don't mind the market research being done to bring back some of the older toylines that Hasbro acquired after merging the other companies into the Hasbro Toy Group. But back then, it would have been a nightmare to bring the TF's and GoBots together into one series since as you stated, GoBots (cartoon) was Hanna-Barbera, and Transformers was Sunbow/Marvel. Darci and Jem was another problem altogether for Hasbro and Kenner did not come together until the mid to late 1990's!

Kenny

I love your Hasbro Action Theatre showcase. Hasbro really had a toyline of great shows, though a lot of that is credited to Sunbow and the others they contracted to do their shows.

Hasbro in the west and the Toei in the east, are argueably have the toy line shows.

Speaking of Jem, I have a Jem here on the Storyboard message board titled "Creation And Evolution Of Mischief", it also on fanfiction.net under the same title, using my pen name nyc2dragon.

And now it's time to finish the story.......

Marvin has popped the question to Jayna, who of course is overwhelmed by it all. Just before she can say yes, however, Marv's police scanner picks up a "211 in progress" (robbery). Zan collects his sister so they can catch the crooks....

Jimmy Olsen finally gets his exclusive interview with Zan & Jayna. They've pretty much settled into retirement, taking the occasional case here & there, and there really isn't much more to it than that.

A few days later, the burglar alarm at Exorobics (Jayna's aerobics studio) goes off. The twins & Marvin investigate and find that the studio's been trashed and tagged with graffiti by some vandals. A number of other businesses in the neighborhood have similarly been wrecked in recent days. Police detective Anthony McDaniel has been assigned to the case, and when he sets eyes on Jayna, it's love at first sight. However, the affection is not returned immediately. Marv, after all, is still Jayna's boyfriend (not yet fiance), and isn't too keen on the officer having designs on his lady, but keeps his opinion to himself.

Wendy Harris re-enters the picture, having decided to follow in her uncle Harvey's footsteps and become a PI herself. She joins her old friends at the studio, and around the same time, a young man in his early 20's shows up, claiming to represent a "fledgling insurance agency" just opening in the area. Jayna politely tells him she already has insurance on the building, and thanks him for his interest. Wendy takes her aside after the man leaves and suggests that maybe the insurance agency is a front for some sort of scam, like a protection racket.

"I thought that went out way before Zan & I came to Earth", Jayna says.

The girls talk to some of the neighbors, and find that the young man has showed up right after their shops had been vandalized, making the same sales pitch. Curiously, Anthony McDaniel hasn't returned to follow up on the case. Instead, he has Marvin brought in for questioning. Marv, however, isn't biting. He can see right through McDaniel's motivation.

Later that same night, three young men return to Exorobics, with orders to "finish the job", armed with molotov cocktails. They enter the building, only to find Metropolis PD's Major Crimes Unit waiting for them. The "insurance agent" is the group's leader, and Wendy's suspicions are proven correct. Turns out the boys were working for an eccentric billionaire who wanted the property on the block to build a parking garage and a condo. Anthony McDaniel gets the courage to ask Jayna for a date, but she turns him down. She peels off one of her gloves to reveal-----an engagement ring. She & Marvin are finally going to be married.

BTW, it turns out McDaniel, working undercover, was part of the gang, and left an anonymous tip for Wendy and the Twins.

10 years later, Marv & Jayna are the proud parents of their own set of Wonder Twins, while Zan has reconnected with a high school sweetheart, and may yet follow his sister down the aisle. That, of course, is for another time.

I got the information on this from the filmography listed on the Ruby-Spears official website.

Kenny:cool:

Cynda appeared in what ended up being the series' finale, "Prophecy of Peril", which was meant to be a pilot for a spinoff series that never got past that point. Cynda and two others wound up in the 20th century on a model's runway at the end of the episode.

Dude, I don't even want to think about the concept for that spinoff series (let's see, a bunch of Amazon warrior women who become models?)! Thank God that it did not materialize as a series!

Anyway, I have a great reboot of the Skatebirds that I will be doing on Wednesday, so watch for it.

There were three of them that ended up in the 20th century, circa 1981, when "Prophecy of Peril" first aired. Cynda might've also appeared in a 1st season episode about the Amazons, but I can't remember the title. Have to look it up.

Skatebirds was CBS & H-B's attempt to reboot the Banana Splits in 1977. It laid a big egg. We've already covered the Wonder Wheels portion of the show (the driver's name is Willie, not Buddy as I mistakenly surmised). Taking a crack at the 'Birds themselves would be worth doing, as long as we convert them to animated form.

Let's turn our attention to DePatie-Freleng for a moment.

Super President: The original series has been maligned as one of the worst of all time and was part of the class of 1967.

The plot to the series had a sitting President (James Norcross), who fought crime as the masked Super President. Implausible by today's standards, of course, but NBC was starving for a piece of the superhero pie. Hanna-Barbera supplied them with Birdman & Young Samson, while DFE had served up the satirical Super 6 a year earlier. Consequently, only one season of original episodes were made for each series.

How would the show be reimagined today? We start by changing the title. "Super President" just won't do now, especially considering all the haterizing toward the US in various parts of the world.

No, what we would do is unite the Super 6 with the former Super President.

We'll start with Norcross. Since "Super President" ended its run after 1 year (1968), Norcross ran for re-election and lost. At first, Norcross settled into relative retirement, and went on a two year tour across the world with his wife (who apparently wasn't seen in the series). Upon his return, Norcross returned to action, now known as Major Freedom, complete with a new costume, helping the then-current President fend off an assassination attempt.

A few years later, a scandal in Washington forces Norcross to leave the city, and Major Freedom soon resurfaces in Philadelphia (where Norcross is originally from). Better to distance himself from any possible ties to the scandal (and there aren't any). Anyway, Major Freedom remains active until the mid-80's, when Norcross succumbs to a heart attack.

24 years later, current President Brandon Barrett is the target of an assassination attempt, but is rescued by a masked man in a familiar red & white uniform. Yes, the name is still Major Freedom, but the powers are different. In fact, this Major isn't a shapechanger, as Norcross was. Rather, he has no powers, sort of like Captain America or Batman. Instead, this Major, a world class athlete, is Brandon's twin brother, Brady, who's always been there for Brandon whenever he needed help.

A few days later, in a top secret meeting at the White House, President Barrett authorizes the formation of a super-team that will aid Major Freedom in safeguarding the country, as well as the free world.

Next time, in part 2, we'll reboot the Super Six.

We've already covered the Wonder Wheels portion of the show (the driver's name is Willie, not Buddy as I mistakenly surmised). Taking a crack at the 'Birds themselves would be worth doing, as long as we convert them to animated form.

It did lay a big ass egg Hobbyfan. Right now, I think that CBS should have stayed away from the Banana Splits formula and went original. At least in this reboot, it takes its cue from both the Swat Kats and Road Rovers (who were cats and dogs), but this time with crimefighting birds who double as members of an anthropomorphic roller-derby team from Skylark City. Among the Skatebirds are the following:

Satchel - Satchel is the leader of the Skatebirds and one of the top jammers on the team. A pelican, his large mouth has been known to store all sorts of food and equipment at times, including some of his friend Scooter's inventions for the team. A capable leader, Satchel is always finding ways to get himself and his crew out of any situation.

Knock-Knock - Knock-Knock is the blocker of the team, and for good reason: He is a super-fast woodpecker whose beak is worse than his bite, for his beak can peck through anything from normal wood to super-hard steel. Knock-Knock is also the practical joker of the group, and his pranks sometimes backfire on him.

Scooter - Scooter is the enforcer of the team, its brainiac and muscle. a large, 300-pound emperor penguin, Scooter designs all of the Skatebirds' weaponry and equipment for their missions. He has also been known to lift up to two tons at certain intervals. Scooter also has a younger sister named Penelope, who is often called Penny, whom Scooter is often protective of, making him the emotional center of the team.

Also in this 2009 update, two new characters will be added to the team. They are:

Songbird - The female jammer of the team and Scooter's girlfriend, she's the hot chick of the Skatebirds. a yellow canary, she is also a nightclub singer when she's not with the team as well as the team's martial arts expert. Naturally, she was born with high-pitched scream that can disorient her foes, similar to that of her DC Universe human counterpart, Black Canary. She is also in a rivalry with her fellow teammate...

Ruby Red - The female blocker of the team and the sassiest of the two girls. Ruby Red is a red cardinal who has a crush on Knock-Knock, since she always laughs at his practical jokes. She is also the daredevil of the group, whose reckless stunts sometimes put the entire team in danger. This would sometimes lead to her being grilled by Scooter, or worse, team owner Cassius Crow and his daughter Raven.

Of course, there are various other teams that the Skatebirds face in the roller derby arena. But, there is one character they are dedicated to stopping:

Scat Cat: Scat Cat is the owner of the nightclub that Songbird performs at, the Cat's Paw Club! The Cat's Paw is a seedy dive that is a front for a much larger criminal operation outside of Skylark City. Scat Cat's operations are so bad, that it has brought in people from as far as neighboring Bloodhound City (home of Hong Kong Phooey) and Megakat City (home of the Swat Kats) to put an end to his shenanigans. He is also the owner of the Feline Furries roller-derby team, the main rivals of the Skatebirds.

So there you go, my treatment for the new Skatebirds animated series. Hope you like it. And if Hobbyfan wants to add anything else to this treatment, he is free to do so.

In the words of Wayne & Garth, "I'm not worthy!" :D :D :D :D With Roller Derby becoming popular again in some parts of the country, including my neck of the woods, this would be perfect. I got to tell you, I've seen a lot of roller derby matches on TV, and even though I've seen a little bit of the Skatebirds series as a five-year-old, the Skatebirds as a roller-derby team actually makes sense today.

Anyway, team owner Cassius J. Crow was once a U.S. Marshal serving in Cartoon City before retiring to his native Skylark City and founding the team. He also shares a history with Mumbly Jr. in the fact that Crow was his commanding officer years ago, so Crow meeting his son in an episode would have been interesting.

Other allies of the Skatebirds include sports reporter Magdalena Pye. a magpie, she is one tough reporter who isn't afraid to get the dirt on Scat Cat and his operation in Skylark City. Flamingo Pink is another female skater who sometimes helps the team on difficult missions since she is a computer expert who works alongside Scooter. And there's Wings Falconer. A peregrine falcon, he is the Skatebirds' coach. He was a former Skatebird who was the most popular player on the team before an injury forced him into retirement. He sometimes ropes Knock-Knock into some of his most outlandish get-rich-quick schemes at times, but an all around good guy at heart.

I'm going to try to reboot the Road Rovers next. My scenario is that Swat Kats, Road Rovers, Skatebirds and the Zoo Patrol are a new generation of animal superhero teams who represent the fourth generation of Hanna Barbera's funny-animal characters, much the way Tiny Toon Adventures, Animaniacs, Pinky and the Brain, and the much later Loonatics Unleashed represented the next evolution of the Warner Brothers Looney Tunes characters

The Super Six:

Last time, we revamped Super President completely, changing him to Major Freedom. Now, it's time for a makeover of the Super Six, which preceded Super President to the air by 1 year.

I have learned that there was to be a Super Stretch, predating Filmation's African-American hero of the same name by 11 years, but he was taken out before Super Six launched. Anyway........

Capt. Zammo: In the new version, he is Helmut Zammler, now a UN ambassador to the US from Germany.

Super Scuba: Former Navy SEAL Warren Jefferson still wants to serve his country, and is now part of an elite covert ops team (which is what the new Super Six will be).

Granite Man in this version is Elementro, and there is a link to the 1967 Super President in that Elementro is Grant Norcross, son of James (Super President) Norcross, who has inherited his dad's shape-changing powers.

Magnetic Man: Former stuntman Walter Magnusson, who emigrated from Sweden, does in fact have magnetic powers.

Elevator Man: Big game hunter Elliott Jeffries was granted the power to grow to as much as 50 feet tall by an African shaman some 20 years ago.

Super Bwoing wasn't a true member of the Six, but in this version, aspiring singer-songwriter Neal Bauman, the quintessential 98 pound weakling, is actually an excellent marksman who was denied entry into the military because of his being so thin and frail-looking.

As noted last time, the Six will answer to President Brandon Barrett, with Major Freedom (Brady Barrett) as their field leader. There are no plans to add female members to the team just yet.

Now, if Major Freedom and the Super Six were relaunched as a series, it would be under the Marvel Animation banner, since DePatie-Freleng Enterprises became Marvel Productions Limited in 1981.

Also, that would Marvel Comics an excuse to bring Major Freedom and the Six into the Marvel Universe!

Damn Straight! Plus Captain America would already be running the Avengers by the time he came back! But, thank God for the Marvel Multiverse! At least, Marvel would try to relaunch that horrible Heroes Reborn universe that they had in 1996.

At least there, Major Freedom would have a better life as that world's hero, now that Cap, Iron Man, the Fantastic Four and the Avengers have left that world and returned to the 616 universe!

Okay folks, Hobbyfan's segment on Depatie-Freleng's Super President has given me a chance to concentrate on the heroes of one of the most popular companies of the 1960's through the 1980's - Filmation Associates!

The first group of heroes that will get a serious 2009 revamp are none other than the Space Sentinels! Originally produced by Filmation and aired on both CBS and NBC from 1978-1981, the series originally featured Astraea, an African-American shapeshifter; the Greek god Hercules, and the Roman god Mercury. But in my update, characters from the original Tarzan and the Super 7 (sans Tarzan)will join Astraea as members of the new team.

Astraea - Astraea is a young African-American woman from Earth whose real name is Astrid Moon. In this version, she was born with telepathic and telekinetic abilities, as opposed to the shapechanging powers from the original Space Sentinels series. She is the leader of the team and the one who brings the new team together when an evil menace named Morpheus threatens Earth and the galaxy!

Manta and Moray - I'm keeping the husband-and-wife angle of the orignal series, but I'm making a slight change in that Manta and Moray are from Mu, which is now a water-based planet as opposed to an ancient undersea city in the original series. Manta is a humanoid manta ray who possesses great strength and speed underwater in addition to limited flight out of the water and telepathic abilities. Moray is a humanoid moray eel with electric-based powers and underwater powers similar to her husband.

Superstretch and Microwoman - In this version, Christopher and Christina Cross are a twin brother and sister duo from Earth who grew up with Astrid/Astraea as children. Now scientists, Chris, a former basketball star, still has the ability to stretch his body to great lengths and altering his body to the point where he can change into different objects or people. Christina, on the other hand, was a former dancer who can shrink herself to microscopic size or grow to gigantic size depending on the situation.

Web Woman - The inspiration, strangely enough, for Marvel's Spider-Woman. Like in the original Web Woman segment, Kelly Webster is a young college student who received strange psionic powers after rescuing an alien being when his ship crashed. Chief among these powers is the ability to telekinetically "spin" psionic webs and fire force blasts.

Super Samurai - Toshi is a carryover from the Freedom Force series. A 16-year-old boy from Japan, he possesses a mystical armor that gives him great superhuman strength, speed, and flight capabilities, as well as wielding an ancient mystical sword with destructive properties!

These new Space Sentinels have banded together to stop the machinations of a dangerously powerful villain named Morpheus.

Morpheus - Like in the original series, Morpheus possessed the powers of the Space Sentinels, but in this version, instead of subjecting himself to the same experiment that later empowered Astraea, He was born with those powers! Also, there's a strange twist to this origin, for as the team will find out, the villainous Morpheus is actually Astraea's older brother, who went completely mad with power upon augumenting his abilities years ago!

I know legal problems caused by both Marvel and DC Comics (because of similarities to their own characters) prevented these Filmation characters from continuing in new adventures, but it would still be fun to see this revamped team of Space Sentinels in an animated series!

And now, as to the Freedom Force...

When did CBS pick up Space/Young Sentinels for reruns, Ken? As I recall, it aired for 1 season on NBC, with the name change in mid-season from Young to Space Sentinels.

I do agree with the idea of banding together the remnants (Filmation originals) of the Super 7, since Mercury & Hercules can be said to have moved on to the Freedom Force, although the characters in Sentinels & Freedom Force might not be the same.

Well actually, CBS had Freedom Force in 1978, while NBC had Young Sentinels in 1980.

Now, the revamped Freedom Force is the same, with Isis still leading the team and retaining her mortal identity of Dr. Andrea Thomas, who is now a professor of mythological studies at an upstate college. Hercules still has his strength, Mercury still has his speed, Sinbad still has his sword-wielding skills, and Merlin still has magic, but with a twist, each of these heroes has embedded themselves within a member of Dr. Thomas' class!

Anyway, the next one's gonna be easy, because the students of Hero High are going to get a revamp!

Hero High:

This funky superhero cartoon segment from The Kid Superpower Hour with Shazam! was a hit with me and a lot of other fans back in 1981, so I was wondering, what would a 2009-2010 update of this endearing series would be like? Then I saw the movie Sky High recently, which borrowed some from Hero High and other series, and here's what I came up with:

It has been almost thirty years since the misadventures of the original Hero High class, and many of them have went off in different directions. Some of them got married, became superheroes for real, or supervillains. Some became regular people and got jobs, had children and some died. Now, the next generation of superheroes have arrived at the new Hero High Academy! They are:

Surfrider - Chance Perlman is the son of Captain California and Glorious Gal. At 15 years old, he is primed to follow in his parents' footsteps as a hero. But his cocky attitude and experimentation with illegal drugs could threaten his burgeoning superhero career and his life! He rides a much more advanced version of his father's flying surfboard and carries a wrist launcher on his right arm.

Vaingloria - Rebecca Perlman is Chance's older sister and the daughter of the aforementioned heroes. She is a superstrong female who also possesses a blinding smile like her father Captain California, but can focus her laser-like flash in deadlier ways. Becky's very protective of her brother, and fears that her brother's drug abuse could destroy both him and their family if not stopped!

Miss Magix - Melissa Fields is the 14-year old daughter of Misty Magic (who now goes by her full name, Mysteria Fields), who is now the principal of Hero High Academy. Missy is a confident young girl who is still learning the ropes when it comes to magic. But one day with her mom's help, she will become as good as her mother, even without sitting in the lotus position!

Fahrenheit and Celsuis - Sonny and Stormy Weathers are the twin children of Weatherman, who died when they were ten years old. Sonny, as his name implies, has a jovial personality and can exhibit heat-based abilities. Stormy, as her name implies, has a uncontrollable temper and can generate violent winds and cause giant storms.

Mod Rocker - Donald Vance is a young musician who followed the career of Punk Rock after he left Hero High for a music career years ago. When he was killed in a car accident two years ago, Donald found his guitar and modified it. But can this 16-year-old cut it as a hero?

Dirty Trix - Bellatrix Ruthless is the daughter of Rex Ruthless and Dirty Trixie (whose real first name happens to be Beatrix). And with Rex being the new headmaster of Hero High Academy, Trix's actions towards her classmates and her unhealthy relationship with Bratgirl is starting to concern her parents, who were once villains but don't want their daughter to follow in their footsteps.

Bratgirl - Billie Jo Bratton is the daughter of Bratman, and the youngest of seven children, all of them superpowered and each one with a different power! Billie's power is similar to her father's, whose tantrums create tremors that can destroy buildings and the ground! Billie, who is 13, is in a relationship with best friend Bellatrix Ruthless that is starting to worry Headmaster Rex Ruthless and his wife Beatrix.

I see this update as a chance to meet the next generation of young superheroes, this time as an animated drama worthy of say, Beverly Hills 90210 or Gossip Girl. There are many more unrelated characters in the series, but that's for another time.

Actually, the Sentinels came out in 1977, replaced by Archie the next year.

These little blue guys haven't been in the US (aside from Boomerang) since (EDIT) 1991, so they're about due for a revamp.

Behold: the synopsis.

The story is after that wacky final season, where a group of Smurfs TRAVEL THROUGH TIME. Everything's more or less back to smurfy for several years. It centers around the character with the most potential: Baby Smurf. Obviously, he grows up; into a young Smurf named Selfy. He's a smurfy Smurf, but doesn't share his belongings as freely as other Smurfs. He's very polite about it--rarely is he angry with his fellow Smurfs long.
Some time passes. Gargamel--now a really old wizard--enacts yet another plot on the Smurfs, having somehow located the Village(plot point!). Papa Smurf is hurt, and Grouchy dies--to the horror of the other Smurfs. Gargamel takes Grouchy's dead body away to his hut, cackling that he'll be back. Angry and brokenhearted(Grouchy was one of the few close friends Selfy had(there was an ep where the Village's resident crank bonded with the, well, baby....), Selfy--with late help from Wild Smurf--heads to the hut.
Back home, Gargamel eats Grouchy. After eating, the sorcerer turns to his spellbook, etching an alchemy circle on his table. He dances with glee--as a pile of gold materializes like magic! (Now--finally--we know why the Garg wanted to eat the Smurfs all these years: he just wanted to be a state alchemist! (end FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST joke)) Sensing Selfy's anger and shock, Wild drags him forcibly back to Smurf Village.

The Smurfs hold council, with Grandpa Smurf acting in Papa Smurf's stead. They toss around different ideas--literally, as Selfy sullenly hands Grandpa his favorite smurfysack on request.
As the others talk, Selfy calms himself. An awful, unsmurfy idea came to his mind, but he tries to think like Papa would in such a crisis--the last thing Selfy wanted was to act out of blind anger(which he now admitted to himself was what could have killed him). Reason and calm notwithstanding, the idea would not go away--while he was willing to forgive Gargamel, he couldn't let the wizard continue predating on the Smurfs in his Village.
The smurfysack lands back in Selfy's hands. He suggests the idea: kill Gargamel before he can strike again. (dun-dun-DUN...!) Reluctantly, the Smurfs agree to kill Gargamel; they set a fatal trap for the wizard: a pit of sharp wooden stakes. Gargamel, tricked into the pit, dies. Selfy, grim, tosses in the gold before he and his fellow Smurfs bury Gargamel.
Yet this...is only the beginning.

Years later:
Smurf Village has returned to a semblance of normalcy. Selfy left the village to make his own way in the world. He journeys around the world(Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia and the Americas(where he runs into the Paw Paw Bears), meeting many unique Smurfs in various villages. However, shortly after Selfy leaves a village, a shadowy army invades--abducting the village's smurf inhabitants.
The Aztlan Smurf village chief(aware of this disturbing trend) contacts Papa Smurf; as his villagers had noted Selfy from a distance and didn't want TYPHOID SMURF at their village. The Aztlan village shaman astral-projects himself to Selfy(and simultaneously to Papa and his own chief in secret); he basically explains to Selfy that he's not wanted. Dejected, Selfy leaves Aztlan.
During his travels, Selfy had noted increasing hostility in every Smurf village he visited; privately he wonders if he just wasn't smurfy. He had always been different from the other smurfs back home, and he was the one who had pushed for Gargamel's death(violence was not a smurf-like solution). Selfy settles in a cavern, opting to shun the world.

There's a backstory that drives the plot of this story; it could be a movie or TV special event: Call it...The Legendary Twelve and the Seven Gifts of Schickelgruber.

Twelve smurflings were born to Smurf Village: Curious Smurf, Hungry Smurf, Trailblazer Smurf, Mimic Smurf, Prudent Smurf, Domini Smurf, Valiant Smurf, Shaman Smurf, Bazaar Smurf, Jolly Smurf, Shrug Smurf and Red Smurf. Seven of these Smurfs accepted the Gifts of Schickelgruber--actually seven physical tokens of the Seven Deadly Sins; the twelve young smurfs had located the Gifts during a big and dangerous adventure.

Belt of Gula: The wearer can eat and digest ANYTHING while wearing this belt. Hungry owns this Gift.
Coat of Luxuria: A fur-lined coat that keeps the wearer comfortable in any climate, and shields the wearer from danger. Trailblazer puts this Gift to good use.
Mirror of Invidia: A wish-granting djinni lives in this mirror to grant the owner's every wish. The djinni's weak, though, and steals the wished-for item/quality from someone else. Mimic, a very honest smurf, doesn't like his Gift.
Sceptre of Superbia: A gem-encrusted sceptre which imbues the bearer with god-like power--if it absorbs a prohibitively huge amount of alchemic energy (which, to BORROW RUTHLESSLY from Witch Hunter Robin, is called "orbo"). Domini, who owns this Gift, has already used this Gift once. (That is not a good thing.)
Glove of Avaritia: The wearer of this glove has the Midas touch; turning whatever is touched into gold. Bazaar likes this Gift a lot; but is very careful about shaking hands, bathing, and eating.
Plume of Acedia: This feather can (depending on how it's used) grant its user super-speed, slow time, and create massive gusts of wind. Shrug, an apathetic cuss of a hermit, uses this Gift a great deal to simplify his day.
Cross of Ira: This deceptively simple wooden cross pendant is simply wood from THE CROSS bound together with wire forged from the Lance of Longinus, the spear used to pierce The Figure on THE CROSS' side. It acts on the unchecked anger in the wearer's heart; in a sense, this Gift is literally the wearer's cross to bear. Red, the most dependable and responsible smurf; has a foul-yet-carefully kept temper: he discovered this the hard way, as it cost him his whole Smurf Village due to the schemes of a wicked, unsmurfy smurf. (This particular character is a smurf we already know.)
The Gifts are capable of good or evil, depending on each one's user; in addition to each Gift's individual drawback, none of the Gifts can be destroyed or removed by the owner once received.

The Twelve go their separate ways, each finding his place in the world. In Red's case, he became the new head of Smurf Village at the insistence of the aging Papa Smurf, who itched to retire. (Now the astute 80s cartoon fan should know who Red is. ;))
This first Village was wiped out due to a dirty trick by an unsmurfy smurf--and Red's temper. Red lived alone in an empty Village for centuries, until one blue moon-lit night, when the One Hundred Miracles(the bulk of the smurf Villagers we know and love) were born. (OK, I'm bludgeoning you with "who Red is" at this point....)

Meanwhile: (short version) One of these twelve smurfs becomes the villain of the story.

In the middle of all this is a rare Smurf child, a type only born in one blue moon every 1,000 years: a "natural-born" Smurfette. Usually, Smurfettes are homonculi created by humans to suss out the locations of Villages (Gargamel is NOT a creative thinker by a long shot...). The last "natural Smurfette" to be born is now Nanny Smurf. The newest one, who lives with Mayor Smurf as his daughter(she was born in Bazaar's home) is a young smurfette named Moonbeam; she's the apple of the Mayor's eye.
Moonbeam is missing; she was last spotted outside Smurfburg, wanting to learn more about this "smurfy paradise".

= = =
Any more? (I'm aware that this is kinda long.... :D)

Kenny

Hobbyfan, the Hero High revamp is up, but here's some more on the Freedom Force revamp:

We now know that Isis has retained her mortal identity of Dr. Andrea Thomas, professor of mythological studies and archaelogy at Fawcett College. Now, here are the four individual students from her class that will become members of the new Freedom Force:

Henry Robert Cullen - Henry "Hank" Cullen is a 19-year-old sophomore football star at Fawcett College who is obsessed with the legend of the Greek God Hercules (or Heracles). Quite the ladies man, he possesses the heroic qualities of the titular god. One day, as a result of rescuing a neighbor from a fire the day before, he was given a mystical Greek medallion with a picture of Hercules on it. upon touching the medallion, he transforms into Hercules himself, who possesses superhuman strength, speed, stamina and resistance to injury.

Mark Curtis Rhee - Mark Rhee is a Korean-American 20-year-old track star who works for a delivery service when not taking classes for his education degree. One day during a robbery at a local bank, he found himself catching up to the robbers, knocking them out in the process! Upon returning home, he found a medallion of the Roman god Mercury, which upon wearing it, transformed him into the Roman messenger god. As Mercury, he possess superhuman speed.

Sinbad Ranjin Qamar - 19-year-old Sinbad Qamar is an exchange student from Saudi Arabia whose family heritage dates back to ancient Persia (now Iran). A political activist, expert fencer, and comic-book geek, he recently found a mystical sword that transforms him into the legendary adventurer and sailor Sinbad, to which this Sinbad is a descendant of. As the heroic Sinbad, he has the ability to control the elements and focus them into destructive blasts through his magical sword. He is also the one that built a high-tech watercraft than take his friends anywhere in the world at a moment's notice to respond to the various threats that the Freedom Force will deal with!

Merlin Arthur Weatherly - 19-year-old Merlin Weatherly is a chemistry major at Fawcett College who is a descendant of both the legendary King Arthur Pendragon and Merlin the Magician, to which his full name implies. a comic-book geek like his friend Sinbad, he is also interested in magic. This is a fact that comes from his family's magical side (his mother is named Morgana, a professional stage magician). One day in his large manor home, his mother Morgana gave him his own magical cape for his 18th birthday, unaware that his cape transformed him into a modern-day version of his Arthurian ancestor on his mother's side! Chief among Merlin's powers are the abilities of levitation, invisibility, shapeshifting, flight and teleportation. The cape also transforms into a flying carpet that can transport him and the other FF members whenever Sinbad's ship is not available.

To balance out the team, two new members of the Freedom Force will be added:

Diana and Vanessa Solis - Puerto Rican twin sisters Diana and Vanessa Solis are both psychology majors at Fawcett College who are as different as night and day! Diana is an athletic beauty who is more outgoing and physically tougher than her sister, while Vanessa is a real flirt who is more interested in those of the opposite sex! Mysteriously presented with mystical rings, Diana was transformed into a version of the Greek goddess of the hunt, Artemis, while Vanessa was transformed into a version of the Roman goddess of love, Venus. Artemis is a mistress of all different forms of weaponry and martial arts, while Venus has the power to control the inhibitions of any person, causing them to either fall in love with her or any other person that comes in contact with the affected subject. In their civilian lives, Diana is always trying her best to keep her twin sister out of trouble. At least she has a thing for Hank Cullen, even though their alter egos are brother and sister!

So there you go! even though they will face the various mythological warriors, creatures, sorcerers and sorceresses, and mortal enemies of the world who threaten the human race in the process, I think that this team offers a racially-diverse mix of characters that will provide some much-needed tension in this new revamped series idea.

And, thanks for the date clarification on the Young Sentinels, Hobbyfan.

These little blue guys haven't been in the US since the 1980s, so they're about due for a revamp.

Snipped the fan-fic to save bandwidth. Smurfs aired on NBC from 1981-91, and have been in syndication much of the time since. Currently airing on Boomerang Thursday-Sunday at 6:30 pm (ET). There has been talk of a new Smurfs movie, but there really isn't anything to be done with them that I can think of.

Long story short, Anubis, old son, is you've been watching too many horror movies.

1. "Daughter". I'm a woman.

2. Wow. Ten years. Too bad I don't get Boomerang where I live.

3. Where'd you get the horror movie vibe? The Seven Deadly Sins as magical talismans?

Oh, my bad. Didn't know you were a woman. It was the part with Gargamel eating Grouchy Smurf. The timing being a coincidence with the release of the movie "Jennifer's Body", whose titular character is a demon-possessed female cannibal. And, yeah, you could say using the 7 Deadly Sins as talismans qualifies as a horror plot device. I'll say it's a decent story. Maybe you could have that post mirrored onto the Story Board if you ask the moderators for assistance? Not sure how the hardcore Smurf fans might take it, though.

In time, Boomerang might be like its sister network Cartoon Network, and be available everywhere as an alternative to CN.
