View Full Version : [AS] Vs the detour?

I was wondering how [Adult Swim] stacks up against Teletoons detour. In my opinion the worst Detour originals are crap compared to the worst [AS] originals, but the good ones are slightly better. The average show on the detour is slightly worse in my opinion(tripping the rift? Fail.).
I do like the Detours treatment of anime, completely uncut, no bleeps, no edits, no pixels. Exactly the same as western acquisitions. Not to mention those anime have some advertisment, even though they're old movies instead of new series for the most part.
You're opinions?

Teletoon Detour never incorporated anime.

There's no anime on the Detour... Most of Adult Swim anime air on YTV's Bionix.
As for comedies, the Detour originals are not all crap *cough*Life's a Zoo*cough*. :p
The Detour has lots of show that already aired on Adult Swim, Futurama, American Dad, Robot Chicken (which they air 6 times a night ) and almost all of the Adult Swim originals.
The Detour has movies on week-end... However it's mostly live-action crap.

Uh, yes there is, they just did Akira like, two weeks ago. I also know they've played the armatige and appleseed movies on occasion.

Yeah that show is so hilariously crass and over the top :anime:
Personally I actually like Tripping The Rift. Even S.O.B. grows on ya.
I certainly find them all better than ATHF -.-

Akira is actually one of their most heavily replayed movies. They've shown it, what, five or six times now? You'd think that after that kind of success, they'd try showing at least ONE TV series.
The only real problem with The Detour is its original programming. They'll be airing a whole bunch of new pilots in the spring, although none of them look very interesting judging by the descriptions which had been given before. I'm still hoping that they'll have one outstanding hit, though. It can happen.

I could actually see them picking up anime, hey they helped make the spider riders adaptation(and bakugan, but I'll ignore that).

Angora Napkin ( http://angoranapkin.blogspot.com/ ) looks pretty fun.

I heard in a podcast available on Fatkat Animation's blog that Teletoon doesn't want to air anime on The Detour because they think it would not work well airing next to Robot Chicken or Tripping the Rift.
At least AS doesn't air paid programming.

Themn someone needs to tell them there's more to anime than their serious movies. I can see several comedic anime on the detour working if given the chance.

Perhaps! I haven't read the comic though, so I'll reserve judgment for now. But yeah, all the information we have on the pilots are from a press release that's probably taken massive liberties in its descriptions. So there's still a chance some of these shows might stand out.
Although I think we can safely say that Space Knights (http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=xCERJ_ul_58) will not be such a series.

Well, they could've gone for Shin-Chan, but it seems they passed on it. So now it's just rotting in the void of CTVglobemedia's ditched acquisitions.

Teletoon just doesn't have enough time left to actually air anime on the Detour. You know that per its CRTC mandate a certain % of their air time has to be dedicated to Canadian content. Since Teletoon has a limited % of air time left for foreign show they usually 'spend' it all on American cartoons (stupid boring CN shows mostly ><) and anime for the kids like Bakugan.
They have no % left for adult anime most of the time.
On an unrelated note I wish they'd air Rick & Steve on more than just one day a week... its made by Cuppa Coffee! That's CanCon so they can air it as much as they want...sheesh.
