Ash, Brock and Dawn continue their adventures through the land of Sinnoh, meeting some brand new Pokémon, rivals, and challenges along the way!

Recently:
Dawn’s most recent contest was at the Wallace Cup.
The Wallace Cup attracted not only Dawn and Zoey, but Ash and May to compete as well.
The final match of the Wallace up was Dawn against May.
Dawn was just barely able to defeat May by a point or two, and by doing so gave Dawn her second ribbon.

Another Ash / Paul battle, another draw. Thanks a lot Chimchar.
On another note, it was unfair that Team Rocket got blasted off. They didn't cause any trouble, and the way it is suppose to be, they only get blasted off if they cause trouble.

This was an interesting episode. It was nice hearing the strong emotion that Sarah Notchery put into Ash's voice when he was trying to stop Chimchar's rage. Paul sure can be a mean and ignorant person, and I was glad when Paul finally realized Chimchar's potential and was impressed. It was nice seeing how Ash and Chimchar showed how far Pokemon can progress when you care for them. Hopefully one day, Paul realizes where the true potential of Pokemon comes from.

I'm surprised that you feel that way since Chimchar did feel determination to win during this battle so it wasn't like it just came out of nowhere. Besides that, Chimchar going nuts like that was one of the highlights of the episode. It showed that Chimchar truly does have a lot of potential, but it has a way to go in controlling that power.
Another Ash / Paul battle, another draw. Thanks a lot Chimchar.

I don't think we'll get a clear winner in an Ash vs. Paul battle until the Sinnoh League. While I didn't like how Team Rocket got blasted off either, its part of the gag that they get blasted off even if they don't do anything bad. This wasn't the first time that they blasted off when they weren't doing anything bad.
Anyway, this was a great episode. I just love the conflict between Ash and Paul. I had a feeling that Ash would choose Buizel, along with the obvious choices of Pikachu and Turtwig, for his next battle. Gilgar was so cute and I felt bad for it when it wanted to join in on the battles. Too bad it hasn't had much experience yet. I was surprised that Gligar blowing off like that led them all to Paul. He was his usual jerk self when he was upset with Gligar for interupting their training. I felt bad for Chimchar as it hid away from Paul. This was the first time Chimchar has seen Paul since the Tag Battle arc. I had a feeling that Paul would bring up the Wallace Cup, but I didn't think he would go as far as he did. I mean, he did enter the Tag Battle tournament to power up Chimchar, but I wouldn't say that Ash did the same thing with Buizel. The huge difference was that Ash cared about Buizel and all of his other Pokemon, while Paul was willing to physcially and emotionally hurt poor Chimchar in order to tap into that power.
I did like seeing Team Rocket in this episode. They knew already how mean Paul was to Chimchar and it was nice to see that they knew that it was best to just watch. It would have been hard to put them in something else considering how this episode functioned here.
Paul is definitely the kind of rivial that you just love to hate, or in my case, be seriously upset with him since I don't like the word hate. Anyway, he was being pretty harsh when he was just dismishing what Cynthia said to them before. I was glad to see Chimchar stand up to Paul like that to get him into the battle. I was kind of surprised that Paul called out Gliscor against Gligar. The poor thing looked really nervous, which I could understand considering it was its former leader and being Gligar's evolved form. Despite how Gligar wanted to fight, it went down pretty quickly. Paul was harsh when he mentioned how its the trainer's fault for losing, not the Pokemon. Yeah, that was kind of mean.
I was glad to see Chimchar wanting to go next. I thought that Ash would save it for last, but second worked for me. Ursing was a tough appointnet. Even though Chimchar was putting up a great fight, I think that Secret Power effect really caused Ash and Chimchar a lot of problems. I felt so bad for Chimchar as it saw such a scary image of Ursing. The poor thing looked dramatized again. Paul was so mean when he was questioning if it was Secret Power making Chimchar so nervous. I loved it when Chimchar's Blaze ability started up. That looked completely different from how it was during Paul's match against the first gym leader. It was so much more intense.
It was great to see that Chimchar won with that power, even though I didn't like Paul's comment on how Chimchar's finally awake, but it was far too much for Chimcahr to control. I liked how Ash told Paul to watch out as Chimchar almost hit him since it showed, even more, how much nicer Ash is compared to Paul. As I mentioned earlier, Chimchar really wanted to prove itself to Paul and that determination helped to fuel that fire. I agree that Paul didn't realize Chimchar's true power until now. Paul could never tap into it, but with Ash, his friends and his other Pokemon giving it love and support, Chimchar's power grew even further.
I was touched with how Ash was willing to put himself in danger in order to calm down Chimchar. Even with all of the fire and Chimchar bitting him, he still held on. I was so glad when Chimchar finally calmed down. Even though Paul was still pretty mean to Ash, even after seeing all of that, at least he kind of agreed to another match once Chimchar learns to control that power. I loved how it ended with Ash holding Chimchar like that in a still framed picture.
Overall, it was an awesome episode. I just love the conflict that Paul brings with Ash. He's definitely Ash's best rival in my book. I also loved the focus on Chimchar here since we haven't seen much of it for awhile. Besides that, Chimchar controlling its blaze fire does sound like a great sub-plot for the D/P arc. I have a feeling that Chimchar might not be able to control that power until it evolves. Kind of like how Ash's Snorunt couldn't really use Ice Beam until it evolved. Still, I woudln't mind either way, as long as Chimchar, or one of its evoultions, takes down some of Paul's Pokemon in a Sinnoh League match against Ash. I want that battle even more now after seeing this episode. I'm definitely looking foreword to next week's episode.

Ah, I love Chimchar and Gligar, they stole the episode. They're my two favorite of Ash's Sinnoh team, with Buizel after them, so I'm glad they're getting some good focus.
Chimchar has the potential to accomplish what Cyndaquil never did, actually give Ash another strong fire starter aside from Charizard. I hope they follow through with it later during the season.

I just had a feeling that something special was going to happen…. That something was Paul. I think Ash is finally is going to leave Paul’s training style alone, at least, that’s what I got out of that argument. I also thought Paul would have given a more sarcastic remark to Ash when Ash told him that Wallace himself told him to enter. Paul said that he just wanted to win the tag battle, but he goal was to increase Chimchar’s strength. Ash on the other hand just entered the Wallace Cup to give Buizel a fine tune, which he did. In the end, this argument didn’t really get them anywhere, so the argument was just for argument sake.
And to start things off, why would you want to win that coin flip? The person who picks second always has the advantage, and Paul took 100% advantage of that. I knew that this first round was going to be quick right from the get go. Gliscor made quick work of Gligar. No surprise. Ash was just asking for that loss right from the start.
But obviously the focus was on Chimchar. I didn’t expect Chimchar to get psyched-out like that so easily. Yeah I know secret power was in effect, but Chimchar seems so much tougher than that. And that Hammer Arm…. OUCH! I thought this match was going to be over then and there. Then, boom, Blaze. I thought this was the highlight of this episode, because now Ash get’s to see Chimchar’s true power first hand. It kind of puts Paul in his place considering that Chimchar was never able to unlock that power under his influence. I have a feeling that Ash is going to try to control that power… just you never know, he could get obsessed with it and he might even resort to Paul’s training style to unlock it again… but that probably won’t happen. It’s most likely going to be a situational thing, and if that is the case, he probably won’t and shouldn’t be able to control it.
Now I did feel that Chimchar going psycho was a bit overboard at first, but it did show that Ash can’t control that power. Unfortunately it delayed the battle long enough for them not to finish it, which I am pretty sore about. I really wanted to see Pikachu and Electabuzz duke it out for some bragging rights. Oh well, maybe next time…
However, some things Paul says are just completely out of context. He told Ash that he was a fool when he said that he would try to control that power, but then said that he would battle him after they were able to control it. Obviously Paul is just being a jerk, but he could spend less time trying to piss Ash off and more time on battling or training or whatever. However, I do agree with Paul that Ash is a fool for thinking he could control that. If Blaze does turn into a situational thing, then they won’t get any chance to practice it or control it.
Yeah, Team Rocket shouldn’t have gotten blasted off. They had nothing to do with this episode. Yes I know it’s a gag, but you’d think that they could give them a break every once in a while when they don’t do anything bad.
For the record, Ash’s record vs. Paul: 0-1-2. This is definitely turning into an epic rivalry. Actually, it already is. ;)

I completely forgot about the coin toss. Man, that's the third time that most useless device in the game has come up. Just weird.
I actually could see Ash controlling Chimchar's true power at some point. Chimchar itself wasn't in full control, obviously, so it isn't like either one of them have a firm grip on that power. Blaze is released once Chimchar takes on too much damage and I seriously and completely doubt that Ash will do a Paul type of training and attack Chimchar in order to release that power. He has seen Paul doing that, as well as the physical and emotional damage Chimchar has received in the process. If they train more together as a team, then I could see Ash being able to control such intense power. Of course, Chimchar's control would also be needed. I don't think that will happen until Chimchar has evolved. It could happen before that, depending on how hard/long Ash trains Chimchar for that reason in his own way, but with some of Ash's other Pokemon, mainly Snorunt comes to mind, don't truly gain control until after evolution. I think that would be the best way for Chimchar to gain control over its power.
As for Team Rocket, they have been blasted off when they were doing something good. The best example I can think of at the moment is the Master Quest episode, Hi Ho Silver, or something like that. Team Rocket attack the old people's children, who are pretending to be a ban of Diglett thieves, and in order to save the Diglett, Ash blasts off Team Rocket yet again. I'm sure that there are other examples before and after that, but nothing else comes to mind.

No offense to anyone who likes Team Rocket but after appearing over 400 or so times in some sort of criminal act (usually involving snatching his Pikachu or some other Pokemon) I really don't think TR should be given the benefit of the doubt anymore. Espically since last time they did actually "steal" a Pokemon and get away with it even if it's one of the few victories the team ever had. Really I'm sure if we were Ash by this point we'd try blasting them any time they showed up nearby. That's what I would do anyway since it's kind of what they deserve for always spying and plotting something anyway.
I'm pretty sure that Ash will get control of Chimchar's power when it evolves later on in the series before the Diamond and Pearl Final contests. I really hope they don't try and pull another Charizard where after Chimchar evolves he becomes totally uncontrolable. We're past the age where Ash can't handle Pokemon's evolved forms so really the problem should be just getting it to activate more manually without it needing to be hurt anymore or something. That'd be a big surprise to show off to Paul: Chimchar's full power taking out the last of his Pokemon in some form. I'm hoping that's something we'll see in like 100+ episodes from now (since it will take at least that long to get to the Next Tournament probably).

i hope that this doesn't turn into "every time Chimchar is on the ropes or loosing, his hidden mega super power will suddenly kick in and make him unbeatable" kind of thing.

It probably won't happen every time. The special thing about this time was that Chimchar was facing Paul, his ex-trainer. That gave Chimchar the extra edge to unlock Blaze.
Now the thing about controling the power that I wanted to get at was that I believe that the only way to control that power is to practice it. but If Chimchar is only going to unlock this power once every 50 epiosdes or so, then that gives Ash a limited opprutinuty to practice controling that power. That's why I think he would fail. Lack of practice.
Now, if Chimchar evolves, I think he will have an easier time controling the power, but wouldn't the power just be that much more powerful and harder to control. It would just go in a circle and Ash would be back to not being able to control it.
Well, that's my theory on it anyways.

I seriously doubt that Chimchar will become uncontrolable when it evolves. Charizard was the only Pokemon Ash ever had that did that and I don't think that would work with Chimchar. It worked with Charizard since Ash was a total rookie back then and make a lot of mistakes. Considering the fact that he had no problem controlling Sepctile, his second fully evolved starter, he has so much more experience now as a trainer that he woudln't make those rookie mistakes and that Chimchar is much happier with Ash than it even was with Paul, the writers would be making a horrible mistake if they pulled a Charizard here. I'm definitely hoping that Chimchar takes out some of Paul's Pokemon in the tournament, which will be awhile since most fans think D/P will take longer than Johto.
i hope that this doesn't turn into "every time Chimchar is on the ropes or loosing, his hidden mega super power will suddenly kick in and make him unbeatable" kind of thing.
Yeah, I also don't think that will happen. Since Chimchar was facing Paul, there was more of a emotional desire to beat him in order to prove its strength. We've seen Chimchar unlock Blaze before and it wasn't nearly as powerful as this was. I still picture Paul's first Sinnoh gym battle and all Blaze did for Chimchar was cause a light red to glow over it and it still ended up losing anyway. While it was intense and awesome to see how powerful Chimchar was here, it would get kind of old to see that happening every time it was losing.
Now the thing about controling the power that I wanted to get at was that I believe that the only way to control that power is to practice it. but If Chimchar is only going to unlock this power once every 50 epiosdes or so, then that gives Ash a limited opprutinuty to practice controling that power. I see what you're saying, but I don't think that it works like that. Chimchar's true power is more of a reflection of its emotions, at least from what we saw in this episode. If Ash and Chimchar trained together to strengthen its attacks and have a control over its emotions, I think that they would have a good shot at controlling that power. If they practice for like regular battles, then that would help them with this. While you do have a point that the power would become stronger when/if Chimchar evolves, Chimchar itself will be stronger and would have a better sense of control than in its previous form I would imagine. It honestly would be a shame, and wasted potential if you ask me, that after showing us how insanely strong Chimchar can be, Ash never can control that power. Chimchar could be like his second strongest fire type, I don't think it would be better than Charizard, but I would like to see Chimchar being able to handle its special power someday.

Alright, that makes a lot of sence. Ash might not try to control the power directly through experience, but rather indirectly by getting a control of Chimchar's emotions. I never thought of that and I'm glad you pointed that out. I think this way actually gives Ash a chance to control Blaze. And I'm sure once he does, Paul will then have his work cut out for him.
