Thanks to the success of Total Drama Island on CN, we have another show from the same creators. Called 6Teen, it aired on Nick a couple years back, but it was treated badly, which the show being shuffled around a lot and lots of edits. Now, the show will be given a second chance when the series makes its debut next month. For now, we have a special Halloween special that's 60 minutes long. It aired on Teletoon back in 2005, and now it'll make its CN debut tonight on the Har Har Tharsday block. Here is the synopsis:
Jude and his friends are attacked by zombies, who quickly spread the infection (whose original host is unknown) by inflicting superficial flesh wounds.

Cartoon network already has 6teen and plan to give it a weekday run next month. There is a topic about it on the first page of this board.
And yeah Cartoon network is hoping the special gets good ratings.

If CN airs this completely unaltered, I'll take back everything I've said about them and I'll forgive them for every single mistake they've made in the past.
If anything, watch the show for the intro. One of the best theme songs ever.

Is it me, or does the guy with the hat have the same VA as Chris from TDI?
Edit: Jave http://forums.toonzone.net/images/ranks/stat_club.gif, I think you're right
It's official. 6teen on CN is a nice, unbutchered TV-PG. :D

Lots of TDI VAs being shared. There's Gwen's voice, too.

Is the whole cast all appeared on TDI? I am pretty sure some of them did, since it is from the same creators.
I say this about the Halloween special, I will give this show a chance, but the Halloween special is similar to South Park's first Halloween special Pink Eye.

The purple-haired girl's VA didn't. The rest sound familiar.

This special is okay, but Pink Eye is way better if you want to compare zombie themed halloween specials.. They don't have the wacky funny halloween costomes like Hitler, Raggedy Andy, or the Triller parody like Pink Eye did.
Anyone else agree with me this is very much like the first South Park Halloween episode?

Wow, not a whole lot of positive reviews so far. I was expecting something more...positive. :sweat:I’ve just never been a fan of the way teenagers are portrayed in these types of shows, animated or otherwise. “Total Drama Island” may rely on the same clichés and stereotypes, but it’s a parody and it often pokes fun at itself. “6teen”, on the other hand, just doesn’t have anything that makes me overlooks its core concept. I watched several episodes of the series back when it was airing on Nick and I never found myself entertained.

I enjoyed the show back on Nickelodeon, and was disappointed, though not surprised, that it wasn't really given much of a chance. I am surprised to see it back again, though I guess with Total Drama Island doing well for Cartoon Network, it shouldn't be all that surprising that Cartoon Network might be interested with another show from the same people.
The funniest part had to be Coach Halder basically digging a knife into Jen over the pimple. That was just so hilarious and cruel... then again, Coach Halder was never the most pleasant person to be around, anyway.
Pretty close to that: the way Jen and Nikki convinced Caitlin that her now-zombie boyfriend wouldn't have become a zombie if he cared about her. Caitlin, you're so simple.
Starr is always funny. Sorta' like a spaced-out version of Jude.
I don't remember which clone's name was which, but I tend to remember the darker-haired one being a little less stupid than the other two, which seemed to be the case today as well, seemingly less oblivious to the whole zombie situation than the other two. And not being the one who actually wanted to be bitten.
Chef Hatchet from Total Drama Island seems to have Ron's same odd neck. Wonder if they were both in the same war ;)?
And you guys were honestly expecting an episode where every main character gets killed to be "for real"?
I saw it coming from a mile away. Didn't think it could reasonably end any other way.

I kind of was too. I didn't even see the whole special, but I thought that it was pretty good. Good enough to make me watch the series on a regular-like basis.
While the edited about the gay line was obviously bad, I would have been completely shocked if CN kept it in due to a lot of angry soccer moms having too much time on their hands and opinions on homosexuality that I personally wouldn't agree with. Anyway, it wasn't that horrible, at least not horrible enough to ruin the special for me.
And you guys were honestly expecting an episode where every main character gets killed to be "for real"?
I only saw like the first half-hour of the special and I already had a good guess that it was just a dream. Not only because of the whole zombie attacking the mall thing, but the fact that all of the important side-characters were getting infected was a pretty darn good sign that it was all a dream episode. Still, I'll see the rest of the special on Saturday for the heck of it. If nothing else, the special did remind me of some of the fun aspects of watching 6Teens. Plus, the theme song is extremely catchy.

I first saw a few bits of 6Teen on Nickelodeon, but never paid it close attention until seeing it again later (on, erm, other sources). Bought the DVDs of the show's first season release while on a previous trip to Canada, and seen the original "Dude of the Dead" special.
Yeah, I dislike dubbing over "gay" with the lame-sounding (and crudely-dubbed-sounding) "famous", but guess unless it's Adult Swim (and juvenile-y treated there), the mention of gays isn't allowed on CN. Guess it's different for Canada's Teletoon (6Teen's original network).
While I can see why they probably wanted the Halloween-ish themed special "Dude" to kick off 6Teen, would think airing the pilot/early epiosdes would be more appropriate an introduction (especially with the various references to different plot points in "Dude"), though "Dude" does also show almost all the major and supporting characters (albeit in zombie form)...
Finally, apparently 6Teen's home timeslot is mid-afternoons... wonder how well it'll fare there (or what it's up against)...

Haha, good one.
I was going to watch this because Jave said the theme song was good. I decided not to because AP classes are more important right now. But I guess 6Teen wasn't met as positively as TDI was. Neat art style, but the writing didn't really grab me. It was kinda of like TDI but more reality-bound, which is not a good thing in this case.

Just saw this. It was exactly what I expected it to be. It's not bad nor good. It's just kinda there. It didn't spark my interest at all, though it reminded me a good deal of TDI, though with less fart jokes, but that's because Owen's not in this. Anyways, watching this special reminded me of how much the common society of teenage youths nowadays rely on superficial stuff like malls and constant communication and oh, coffee.

During the Fortune Teller Baba saga our heroes had to fight five various underworldy type creatures (if it were shorter it'd be good for a Halloween special airing actually if you know CN aired old cartoons nowadays) including a ghost "reliatve" of Goku, a vampire, a mummy, the devil and the Invisible Man. You'd think with a character based on the devil they'd have the most problems but it was the invisible man that gave the Funimation Editting team the most difficulty. You see since he can't be seen the guy fighting him (Yamcha) couldn't really defeat him, until Krillin came up with a plan: bringing together the young teenage Bulma and pervetic Master Roshi, she had Bulma position herself in front of Roshi and expose her boobs. This gave Roshi a massive nosebleed so he literally bleeded all over the Invisible man so Yamcha could defeat him.
... No way were you seeing that on Toonami back when this first aired (2002) or... I don't even know if CN or even AS could get away with the full scene nowadays. Maybe with the boobs pixilated you could get away with on AS but not on CN. So obviously they had to change this scene around. Master Roshi was taken so he could have his can of "tomato juice" spray all over the invisible man (reusing a frame of animation of a beer can opening from a Dragon Ball movie) in order for him to be seen to defeat him. The reason Bulma was grabbed was never explained and it was by far the trickiest and one of the most talked about of all of Dragonball's edits. Back more on this show and it's set of edits though.

Odd, because all the various zombie attacks and hot sauce saving the day really screams reality based. Yeah I know it's a dream but really I don't think you should base the reality of a shown on it's Halloween episode, espically when it's just a dream episode. Who knows maybe they're all more wacky in non dreams (though probably not) but I'd watch a regular ep before seeing if it's reality based. Yeah you can judge quality in one ep but just like how you can't judge the SImpsons Universe based on a Treehouse of horror ep don't judge the 6teen universe based on "Dude Of The Living Dead".
I immediately noticed the edit and could guess what it originally was, but honestly I wouldn't have expected anything different. CN doesn't want the soccer moms on it's arse.
You know thinking about it when I said subtle in another pose I should of clarifed that there's still some subtley needed in getting something passed censors. Like how Owen can make various comments about being attracted to and wanting to kiss guys (though not mean it) In TDI since it dosnen't mention the g-word. In truth that's just a thing that isn't allowed to pass even as PG non adult slang in any form.
I really can't judge the show since the most I saw of it was most of this special but looks like one of those I'd need to see a lot to get the characters name's down pat (since I don't remember... well any main characters name at all) and see if I really like the sense of humor. The guy quoting Star Wars was kind of funny (espically lightsabering the zombies at the end. Kind of sad though when you have Clone Wars on CN you have a show that has more lightsaber action then it usually has heh heh) and I did like the slacker guy's moment of glory until the just a dream ending. Then again in this case people turned into zombies seemed to have no way of turning back so guess you couldn't just end the show on that note. I'll try giving this more of a chance in it's regular form before judging it but it's defintley weaker then TDI though I can see some potential in it.

The initial reaction to TDI in its premiere talkback was very similar--lukewarm. Keep in mind that this special Halloween episode is part of the second season of 6teen, after the main characters (and various supporting characters) had been established during Season 1. The interactions between the characters are what makes this show so great to me. I hope most people will watch the first two weeks of eps or so and then decide if they want to keep watching. Again, it's not as edgy as TDI but pretty well written.
MARK MY WORDS--I predict someone at some point will complain that "they're always at the mall". Duh...that's the point...

I might be willing to watch more episodes if people can tell me, in all seriousness, that the series stands on its own two feet and doesn’t rely on the same teenage garbage issues that have been used in numerous other shows. I mean, a lot of the dialogue about Jen’s zit in “Dude Of The Living Dead” annoyed the hell out of me; it wasn’t funny and I would have respected the series more it were made into a non issue. However, most shows like these only have the characters care about appearances and relationships, which I loathe. I only saw a handful of episodes on Nick, but I can’t say that I remember the series handling itself with class.

I mean, even though the zit thing was rather minor and most episodes have stuff like that (which are hardly the focus of the episodes), chances are you are going to be fixated way too much in those aspects and not going to judge the series in fair and balanced way.
6Teen has a very likable cast of characters and at what truly stands out is the humor, which I've always thought is handled rather well. But if stereotypes honestly prevent you from watching something to the point of loathness, then skip this. The show clearly can stand on its own two feet, but that's because of the characters and humor style you saw in this episode (minus all the "it was just a dream" thing).

Sorry if I'm a bit late to post. I've got a lot to say on this big episode!:D
Here are my comments:
1. I loved how the Penalty Box manger was able to handle Jude's "insanely spicy" chicken!:p :D
2. Jonesy, getting a job at the lingerie shop just to see women change through a peephole?! That guy needs therapy!:p
3. Wyatt not noticing that his co-workers were zombies was weird.
4. I liked how that zombie got scared of Jude's spicy chicken!:D
5. I was so glad when Wyatt & Jude got to Jonesy in time when that zombie attacked him!
6. I liked how Jen defended herself when the Penalty Box manager became a zombie and attacked her!:D
7. I felt sorry for Caitlin when her date became a zombie.:( I AM glad that she was a little "air-heady" to notice it!:) I DID like how she made him act like a puppy with that movie candy.:anime: Although, it wasn't smart of her to un-tape his mouth to alert the other zombies!!!
8. Seeing them wait for that elevator while the zombies approached was very nail-biting! :ack:
9. Things sure got worse when the power went out, especially when the Khaki Barn clones started to zombify when they were all in that storage room! :ack:
10. It was gory to see the security guard sacrifice himself so Jonesy, Nikki, & Wyatt could get to the breaker room! :(
11. I loved how Jen used that zombie arm to slap some sense into Caitlin to get over losing her date!:p
12. It was hilarious to see the zombie get scared of Jen's huge zit!!!:p :D
13. I absolutely loved Jude's confidence speech to everyone!:D I'm also glad they used the air-vents to escape!:D Plus, I loved when Jude was able to save Starr as well!:D

9. Things sure got worse when the power went out, especially when the Khaki Barn clones started to zombify when they were all in that storage room! :ack:
I didn't see that.

What I meant was when the 3 Khaki Barn girls decided to foolishly go into the Albatross & Finch store and one of them got scratched.
Then, when they were all in the store room, one turned into a zombie and bit the other 2. It took them a while to zombify but it happened.
I hope that cleared things up.

It was nice to see 6teen again, and hear the rockin' theme song again... but the first half hour was meh at best. Surprisingly, even with all the biting and the shocking yet not too surprising Jonesy getting a job at a lingerie store didn't do much to excite me. But when you got to the frightening parts and some strangely enjoyable odd-time comedy, this turned out alright. I actually thought the funniest part was Caitlyn continuing to cling onto her boyfriend's zombie arm - I remember her being my least favorite character (you know, because of the whole 'blonde' thing) - but she pretty much saved this special with that one running bit. That, and whichever one of the 'Clones' that wanted to be bit because she didn't want to be left out of being cool and undead. I do have to admit I wasn't even thinking this was a dream sequence until close to when things started going horribly wrong near the end.
I kinda agree, though, that it's kinda hard to get a grasp of these characters if you've never seen the show before. You could probably guess a little based on this special about certain characters... but not enough to make a good impression. I remember the show working better in a-plot/b-plot situational episodic comedy. I also have to wonder, even though this came before "Total Drama Island"... has the two years away from "6teen" enough to make me believe I've moved on to other better shows and I'm not willing to look back?
I'm probably going to be along with all the newbies watching the first week carefully, wondering if I can fall in love with "6teen" again. But not a good special to start on, by any means...
"Dude of the Living Dead": 3/5.

I’ve just never been a fan of the way teenagers are portrayed in these types of shows, animated or otherwise.
Amen. I also hate the way they treat nerds and unpopular kids (in this case, "Darth") like they are the scum of the earth, whose sole purpose is to be laughed at. I just can't watch 6teen, because it's obviously aimed at people who like watching reality shows on MTV or can't tell the difference between musically talented artists and generic corporate crap artists.
