I missed the season premiere, so I'll catch it. If I like it, I'll tune in. Otherwise, I'm pretty much done with Alien Force. From what I've seen so far, it's a waste of a really good concept.

This seems a lot like when in Ben 10, Ben and Kevin had to work together to get a space ship.

Yeah I know. But they did allie with the Highbreads last episode, and earlier with the Forever Knights. Teaming up with villains for a day, is something they do on this show.

I hope they do that next season with Charmcaster. I want to see Gwen and Charmcaster be forced to team up. I want to see a great magic fight to end all magic fights, but I also want to see a tag team of magic.

If tonights episode of Secret Saturdays proves anything, antagonist can be helpful to the good guys, while still maintaining an edge. Even the most evilest of villains can be good for a day, and still have their edge. Even Slade helped the Titans defeat Trigon, and he still maintained a pressence of evil.

I was actually referring to keeping her interesting, since the writers have a slight problem with that.

I know what you mean?

On the subject of Charmcaster, I was thinking the other day, she would warrent a background episode, in which a lot of it is flashbacks to her past. It might be interesting, defentely more interesting than the villains from Bleach that got background episode.

But if they did that, they have to do one for Kevin first.

Me too. But there's no if about it, Dwayne McDuffie already confirmed she and good ol' Uncle Hex are turning up in the third season. Sadly, the choice of best original series villain by many, Ghostfreak, doesn't seem to be reappearing at all. Ah well, you can't have everything...

Now I am enjoying this one...Ben is back to his usual 10 year old persona...not stoic and boring as he normally is. He's being helpful, but Highbreed only view it as an annoyance.

I doubt Max is really dead.

Anyway, as Ben said, despite their differences, they would have to work together to escape that dimension/planet. When they get back, their short-lived alliance is over.

He's A Highbreed. There are several. The one who was partially responsible for Grandpa Max's death got blown up along with Max. And the Highbreed leader hasn't been seen since the first episode.

In any case, I felt somewhat sorry for the Highbreed guy here. The warped superiority complex of the Highbreed was too strong for him to break and he would apparently rather die than exist "infected" in the universe. Just goes to show you that superiority complexes aren't good for anyone, even the ones who have them.

There are more than one Highbreed.

The ending was kind of sad but funny. The Highbreed is too good to live. I disagree with Ben about fully understanding aliens because of the Omnitrix. Turning into an ailien for a few minutes, is not the same as being an alien and living in that alien form.

This was probably my favorite Alien Force episode, besides paradox. A nice look into the High Breed that we really needed since this show has began. What is their purpose, what do they want and so on. at least now things are a little clearer, they are or claim to be the first face and believe they are superior to all other races.

Ben was annoying, he was acting like a boy scout the whole time talking about how we should all be friends and crap like that. 15 year old Ben is still boring even if he is a little better then he was in season one. I am liking the amount of control ben has over the Omnitrix now.

I liked the Highbreed that came with Ben more then Ben himself. They had interesting contrast in personality that made this episode work.

Oh I don't think this is the same Highbreed, they all look the same, just like all DN aliens look the same. Eventhough we have only seen one at a time that is clearly not the only on earth.

I think this was a subtle "very special racism episode" that most cartoons do at some point. The Highbreed are obviously Nazi-influenced, as most of his commentary on humans and other lower species could have been lifted right from a Hitler rally.

...or the Daleks, the original Space Nazis.

Anyway, two suns and a sandy planet. Star Wars reference anyone?

Not that I didn't like this episode, it was surprisingly good. The theme and the ending reminded me of a Doctor Who episode where Rose meets a dalek for the first time.

Unless Doctor Who began in 1978 than I am afraid the Principality of Zeon beats them out.

When I first heard this plot I partially groaned. The whole "the hero and villian are forced to team up in order to work together and actually come to a mutual sort of understanding with each other" cliche had been worked so many times before it was kind of sickening really. As in I feel I might be sickened seeing a full fledge regular cartoon try using that old gem again. This one didn't turn out to be that bad though. Probably because it's just how the Highbreed changed: Yeah he obviously grew to feel something for Ben but he still has his old believes in the strength of the Highbreed beign the best species and everything else being vermin. He just feels that because he has changed and grew to actually care for something to a point that he can't even understand he deserves to die in exile which is actually a bit deeper. Obviously it didn't change his whole philosphy but it still changed him which is a good twist on the cliche. I also did like how Ben did try bonding with it at first jsut out of survival and then eventually tried being it's friend even though that obviously was pretty much doomed to failure. Still this wasn't really the best episode. In truth the whole bonding even for a 30 minute show did seem to go by a bit too fast and there wasn't really any sort of interesting battle or moments in here at all. Yeah the aliens got to spread they're wings out a bit more then normal with DIALOGUE but not with actual interesting attacks (besides Big Chill and the highbreed destroying that one villian and even then sort of eh). This was still a pretty cliche plot (and the predictable cliche of Gwen and Kevin only appearing at the beginning and end) but it did a decent job of running through the material and not giving us a clcihe ending so that's something I guess.

You do know that Azmuth created the Omnitrix for that purpose right? So that the user could understand what the other species were experiencing. Basically Ben is pretty much using the Omnitrix like it was intended to.

I don't get what people are saying about the 'original' Ben being back, he isn't. This Ben is the same Ben from AF season one, he's older and wiser, he's in control.

The AF Ben from season 1 was boring and dull. He was hardly any fun like he was in the original series and the only time he was funny or entertaining was when he is one of his alien forms. However, since season 2 started he seem to gotten his fun side back to his human form. You can see it in this episode. So yeah season 2 AF Ben >>>>> Season 1 AF Ben.

This episode is a step up from Season 1, but we'll see how long they can keep it that way.

The story for this was good, but as always the writing was lacking, though not as much as in Season 1. One thing I wish is that all of the Highbreeds didn't look and sound the same, that way we'd know which Highbreed was which. Ben still seemed bland to me in this episode. I know Ben has matured, but he's still a teenagers. The majority of teenagers make mistakes and lose their head. Ben's good samaritan "I help anyone who needs it" attitude is a bit lacking in the personality department. I loved the ending to this episode though. Even after aiding and being aided by one who he considers inferior, Ryni is a tragic hero and commits the ultimate sacrifice out of pride for his own race.

This episode could've been better on the action part, I'd like to see more no-talk all fight action like in Samurai Jack in both this and The Secret Saturdays. They need to be action shows, not dialogue shows with some played down action. But the ending at least has made me decide to watch continue watching this show. But it still needs major improvement. One episode isn't enough.

Well, as zoombie pointed out earlier on, the original series Ben had problems in his characterization too. Far too often, his humor was used for jerkassness, usually against Gwen (Gwen shared the same problem naturally.) It's all about finding a balance, not too bland but not too out of control, and hopefully Ben and Gwen can find it by season's end.

I felt like it was an overall good episode, much better than what I was expecting. The Highbreed's sort of strike me as a sort off Nazi esque supremacist's, with that whole "More Genetically Advanced Beings". A good episode, I'm glad I was able to watch it.
