I finally remember why this is in my top 3 TV shows. It's the complete anti-sitcom! While it sometimes gets formulaic, it accepts the formula and tries to make the best out of it. We get the standard sitcom plot with the Rollington Acadamy episode, which is airing right now. Billy's at a dinner with his principal, and two people are impersonating his parents. Will it go off without a hitch? The writers accept that this plot is formulaic, and try to make it better...WITH GIANT ALIEN ZOMBIE LOBSTERS!

Edit: We're on the commercial break before Underfist. The marathon should've been longer. 7 hours just isn't enough for us Billy and Mandy obsessors. Ooh, a commercial for Mini Match! THAT GAME SUCKS!

Edit again: Chowder has a cameo on the parade float! I also love the "night without Billy and Mandy" style opening where Irwin is abandoned.

I bet your web will be blue too! -Jeff

Where are all the awesome Billy and Mandy fans? I was hoping we could do a viewing party.

Yeah but that wasn't the part he was working. Let's say he was hunched over and straining one part real hard. So what's the deal, after a long run of Billy and Mandy, this show is gonna launch a spinoff with the most popular side characters of Billy and Mandy or something. I didn't like this show, but I was looking at it from a Billy and Mandy viewpoint. Not sure how to view it if it is an original own show. Can't believe Scar saved them, nope not at all.

Mr. Atoms requested that people write to Cartoon Network if they want to see more “Underfist”, but if you can’t, you should at least use their feedback form in order to let them know how you feel (http://www.cartoonnetwork.com/feedback/index.html); still, the the written word is always more powerful than the typed one.

Woah. Irwin, Hoss, Jeff, Scarr, and Fred Fredburger...on paper, the team seems thrown together, but they actually had good team chemistry together. I too place myself among those hoping for a spin-off series, this has alot of potential.

Though Jacob's review did have one thing right...Mandy as president was very Mary-Sue-esque (and as if she wasn't already enough of a Mary Sue as it was too...)

And this is random, but I wonder if Deidrich Bader is going to use his Hoss voice for Batman in the upcoming "Brave and the Bold" series. That would be cool.

It's time I tried to compose my thoughts...

Underfist was awesome. I can't stress this enough, I really can't. If there's one thing I loved about Billy and Mandy, it was the fact that it didn't let its demographic tell it what to do. Animated children's comedies and animated adult comedies are two distinctly different beasts in terms of writing, and Billy and Mandy didn't give a damn. It was goofy and juvenile some episodes, pop culture laden in others, and even literary in some cases. It really had a little bit of everything.

It also had a nice stable of side characters, which serves as the basis of the Underfist concept. The various characters had such vastly different origins that the show had crafted its own unique fictional universe. This was a show where Cthulu could be a businessman, Pandora could be an angry school girl with a lunch box, and the headless horseman could be just a guy who loved to prank people. None of these characters made it into Underfist, but their very existence lended the original source show the credentials to make a very crazy idea feasible: You can have Billy and Mandy without Billy and Mandy.

Or maybe you can't. There were times where Underfist felt like its own very unique entity, although the BMverse's tropes still sort of oozed their way through. It took just enough to give it the base it needed for fans and familiar viewers to recognize it, but gave such a unique spin that people who wouldn't be familiar could still tune in to a fun show (not to say it didn't rely too much on the Billy and Mandy back drop, which it probably did. But it IS a spin off). Underfist was an interesting mix and match of Billy and Mandy elements with wholey new elements, and it worked. It worked so well.

I guess the main thing about the show is the cast; not even the premise of the show would garner more attention, I'd guess. These characters seem randomly chosen, but have some amazing chemistry. Irwin, yo, serves as one of the most unlikely characters to focus a story on, but he just oozes with brilliance as he eventually comes to terms with being the creature he is. Hoss Delgado is just hilarious, as usual, as the very Chuck Norris/Brock Samson type figure whose only divergence from the stereotype is being a total loser who lives with his mother. Skarr serves as the anti-hero and does it so well, bitterly loathing and ultimately loving the Underfist team (or just the medal he gets as a result). Jeff is almost sickenly sweet, attempting to reconcile his identity as an adult while wanting so desperately to remain the child he wished Billy would see him as. Of course, there's also Fred Fredburger.

Oh, Fred. I'm saying it right now, Fred was probably the best character in the special. I didn't like Fred in the main series because I felt he was annoying, but here he was just too adorable. I thought the defining moment of the special, the moment it really gained its own distinct identity, was the revelation of Fred's drawing. It was such a blatant title moment; a justification of why the show was called something so incomprehensible as "Underfist.", but what it did was just show the innocence of the character. It's okay to be a kid, and it was that kidlike innocence that brought everyone together to stop, of all things, evil candy. That was the kicker: It's just a fun show, and you have to have fun every now and then. That, I feel, is the essence of Fred Fredburger's character, and I'm kicking myself in the face for it only sinking in now.

To top it all off, the whole thing set itself up as a pilot. There's just no denying that. From gathering the characters together, establishing their relationships to be less grounded in Billy and Mandy and more grounded in Underfist, and to the revelation of Bun Bun's scheme. There's a reason Billy's fear of spiders was included in the bunny's evil; The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy has been wrapped up, and Underfist is now beginning. It's a nice little writing trick to be able to wrap up the plot points of a preceding work while keeping it perfectly in tune with the current story. Even without the fake title cards, the gathering of the Underfist crew at the end of the special just screams further adventures. It's a whole new show, even if I can't decide whether or not it really feels like a Billy and Mandy story. My incoherent thought process is telling me it doesn't, and it works better that way.

Not to say we can't have Billy and Mandy. Mandy's (should have been) surprise reveal as the President of the United States was a delicious treat, and it worked perfectly for her character. The little Anti-Christ has always been a bit of a schemer and a manipulator, and here she seemed to be the Charlie to the Underfist Angels. Billy and Grim as tech support put a smile on my face, because it was just so them. Grim's spot as a support rather than a frontliner (which works so well, since I doubt Grim would ideally put forth the effort) is a nice complement to the Underfist arc taking over the overall story, and Billy being with Grim is probably nothing more than Mandy wanting him out of her hair. But that's so Mandy anyway, so it works well as the small Billy and Mandy moment we're fed to ease the transition from one series to the other.

All in all, I loved it. This must become a series. If it does, I guarentee it'll become one of my favorite Cartoon Network shows ever. I just...adored it. CN, please, greenlight more Underfist in some form or another. I'll take anything.

Well time for my thoughts on this special.

Underfist was indeed very good and I mean very good. The plot was very well done and I liked how Irwin was actually the hero of the story for once and not getting completely beaten up like he does most of the time. General Scarr fighting the chocolate men because they went on his garden was hilarious, Fred fred burger actually being less annoying was awesome, and Hoss proves to be one of the best characters that Billy and Mandy had.

What I find really great about this whole special is that the maker of the series really did well with it. I mean when you write down on paper about making a special of Irwin, Hoss, Jeff the spider, Scarr, and Fred Fred Burger teaming up it just seems a bit werid to animate and make great without re using a bunch of jokes but it was completely the opposite it ended up being hilarious.

My favorite part probably had to be just the huge battle with Hoss fighting all the chocolate men. I would of probably loved this special a bit more without Mandy, Billy, and Grim helping out but I suppose them not helping out would be a bit strange. Oh and another favorite part of mine in this had to be when the evil rabbit explained he was behind Billy being scared of spiders, him being the monster that was scaring Hoss when he was a kid to a adult, and cutting off Fred Fred Burgers...tusks? o_O

So yeah I give this special a 9/10 it was not perfect but it was a very enjoyable spin off. Oh and Dracula is right.. getting a penny is the worst thing you can get on Halloween!

There better be a series or a sequel to this..

I don't know about Mary Sue esque but it did feel kind of unnecessary. Like it was only there in order to give Billy, Mandy and Grim some more screen time since really anyone could of been the president or the background team behind Underfist since really the characterization of the three mains didn't really have an impact on the special. (Even Bily could of been replaced. He still could of come out as the super secret weapon but have it say developed by.. I don't know Puddin or something). Besides I thought the president of B&M's world was some Lincoln knockoff? When did that change anyway? Just for this special? B&M does sort of care for it's continuity (even if it does disregard it often) and I don't see them normally doing that kind of thing. Luckily it didn't impact on the plot too much but it was still noticable even if in truth it's something that could of been skipped and not impacted the story that much.

Maxwell Atoms obviously does love Halloween, though his efforts on capturing it's spirits haven't really been the best of Billy and Mandy's run.

The first is "Grim Or Gregory" a 2002 6 minute short (back when the show was Grim and Evil) mixing Grim with some little kid named Gregory that not even Maxwell attempts is one of they're better efforts.

Then there was Billy and Mandy's first ever 30 minute special the Halloween Spooktaular of 2003 featuring the Jack O Lantern Pumpkin. It still carried too much of the original season's flaws though and it's overlong Irwin torturing never really felt right to me.

This is actually attempt number three, and this one does a few interesting things: First off it's actually a 70 Minute long movie, falling between Wrath Of The Spider Queen and Boogey Adventure length. Second it dosen't star our Grim Heroes who do make a few cameos throughout the film but the focus is on the secondary group of characters who make up Underfist which is pretty cool, espically since this movie actually bothers trying to develop they're characters. Jeff tries being more mature, Skarr actually gets to help save the day, Hoss learns to work in a team and get over his fear/anger at ALL monsters and Irwin finally gets to manifest his vampire/mummy powers in some pretty cool ways (the whole twisting the arm off the giant candy monster is probably one of Irwin's best moments on the show besides saving Mandy in the Boogey Special). And Fred... well apparently he created the team but he's pretty much the same elephant goofball. And though there are some pretty good jokes (like the whole split screen that Hoss was trying to hide in, the two candie flunkies asking how come they didn't get transformed, the candy weapon being Billy eating the chocolate warrior, or some of underfist's banter iwth each other) this didn't come off as a spectacular special. Really with the different animation style it should of situated itself differently away from B&M. Perhaps have been more action packed instead of trying to jumble on more action and still have all the B&M style jokes in it. It really wasn't too succesful a mix. I could see the team wanting to stray away from the formula more but being restricted by still wanting to fit within the universe they had built. Though there probably won't be another special I'd think next time around (in like the .000001% there is more) Underfist needs to focus more on action and characters then weird random humor to seperate itself from it's series style. Not too bad a special though but despite his love for Hallloween Max still hasn't slammed a special out of it yet. Oh well at least this was a much better B&M then that Wrath Of the Spiderqueen special which I still have a big distaste for.

Marvin Tikvah

Well, the special as a whole was pretty good, aside from a lull in the middle caused by the build-up towards the team. Still, the title cards at the end makes me hopeful that this'll be picked up by CN.

I like the individual charater development the secondary characters got, especially Delgado and Skarr. Both of them showed off some incredible badassness by massacring those chocalate bars at the beginning.

I've always been a fan of Irwin, and I love the focus he got here. His heroic moments are always hilarously great.

I didn't care much for Jeff or Fred Fredburger, mainly because they just felt like filler spots in the team. Jeff had a much better focus in Wrath of the Spider Queen, and I just can't like Fred Fredburger beyond his first appearance.

Was the evil bunny voiced by Meatwad's VA? He definitely sounded the same as him.

I much enjoyed this insane little ride.:D I was skeptical at first when I found out who the stars were but it turned out much better than I was expecting. From Hoss and Skarr bringing the candy beatdown to Fred Fredburger coming up with the team and it's by-laws(I'm still surprised with that:eek: :D ) to Irwin showing what he's made of, it was all good fun.
I'm deffinately looking forward to the next special and/or series that stems from this, particullarly since we still need a crab-thing to make the team exactly like Fred's drawing and an excuse to get that song at the end be turned into a full fledged Opening theme song.:D :D

BEST. ENDING. CREDITS. EVER.

I love the special. The Underfist team was hilarious. Not dull moment in this one. I really hope Cartoon Network does turn the special into a series. They could air it on Har Har Tharday.

10/10

Man...I only got to watch bits and pieces of yesterday's premiere and I slept in and missed the encore today, and I have to go to sleep early because there's school tomorrow so I won't be able to catch the night encore...
But what I saw was amazing. I loved the animation and I loved the theme song too. Every character was good and nothing feeled forced to me. The character designs and the facial expressions were altered but I found myself liking them a lot. I don't know if it's taboo to say this or not, but I think I liked Underfist more than I liked the original series.

I love the revelations of how the marshmellow bunny ruined the lives of everyone! Plus, look at all the sequel possibilities in the credits! Underfist Teaches Traffic Safety is a must-see. Plus, I see why action and comedy were blended so well. Maxwell Atoms himself did the storyboard, which is rare. He also did it alone, which is even more rare!

That must've been the reason why the facial expressions were so good, because he did them by himself. Shows how extremely talented he is, this was too awesome, and I haven't even seen the whole thing yet!

Already done.:D

Did you send a letter or feedback??

Does Irwin's monster form remind anyone else of Mumm Ra from Thundercats ?

Saw the rerun today. Man, was this special awesome. Character development isn't something I'd expect from Billy and Mandy, but here just about everyone except the usual star trio recieved great development. Irwin is the focus of course, but there's also Hoss getting over his prejudices, Jeff dealing with what it means to grow up, Skarr having to warm up to the notion of being part of a hero team, and Fred Fredburger being the one who created the team and, as Harlan_Phoenix said, strangely somewhat binds them all together.

Mention should also be made for the villain's second-in-command, Mindy. Normally she's extremely one-dimensional and thus I didn't expect much from her here. But surprisingly, she actually broke down at the end and showed genuine remorse for what she had done. And even before that, she actually made a damn good villain, more than I thought she would anyway, especially with that evil rock song. Really, I actually found myself liking Mindy here, something I've never done before. Just another example of why Underfist is great I suppose.

God, that special was absolutely amazing. I enjoyed every second of it. Probably the best time I've had watching CN in a long, long time.

Bravo Mr. Atoms. Bravo.

Eh..it was okay. I'm glad Irwin got a chance to shine but really didn't care for the rest of the team. Hoss is great in small doses but his schtick gets old quickly. Same thing with Jeff and Scar. They're great guest stars but I'm not sure if I would tune in regularly just to see them. As for Fred Fredberger, the less said the better. I never could understand his appeal.

If they are going to start spotlighting B&M guest stars & semi-regulars then can we get Dracula spin-off please? Also wouldn't mind seeing more of Puddin' and Eris.

This was just brilliant. A very funny special, awesome battles and I did love all the characters. I hope they do make this into a series, I'm sure it would make higher ratings than the orginal series :D

I liked this. It was pretty funny:

Jeff: Hey, Fred, check it out! Eating blue jellybeans makes my webs turn blue! (squirt squirt)

Fred: HAHAHA YES!

Jeff: Look, I'm a lawn sprinkler! (squirt squirt squirt squirt)

The characters did look a bit different - did a new animation company produce this special? But just the same, it had the same nihilistic, irreverent humor "Billy and Mandy" was known for, even though B & M themselves were barely in it. But Irwin, Jeff, Fred, Scar and Hoss carried the show pretty well, and their personalities meshed nicely. And it was cool to see Irwin reveal his dark side. It's the sort of thing that would have to be handled carefully, though: he'd need to be the geeky, goodhearted, timid nerd most of the time, and only manifest his powers under extreme duress, or else he'd just be a clone of the Incredible Hulk. The movie did have unmistakeable elements of The Incredibles in it, especially the ending, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. I give this a 9/10.

It's funny, I just watched the first five minutes or so and I saw the parade float, but I was busy looking at Billy's dad and forgot to search for Chowder. -_-. Hopefully the special will air again, because I have school tomorrow and my parents are forcing me to sleep, so I can't watch the rest.

This movie was awesome, I saw it when it first aired and now I'm watching it again. The first thing i did when i finished seeing it was look for a forum discussing it and it lead me here :) Anyway, This was the best billy and mandy special by far. I especially like the references in it which I'm sure everyone knows, But i wanna know if i missed some? heres what i saw

1.Billy Dressed has dexter

2.The 13 wish school from a ''billy and mandy'' Episode

3.Hoss using a halo sword

4.Scar dressed has ''Freddy Krueger''

Anyway like i said before, I loved this movie and i hope it does become a series, I would watch it every day.

Also anyone else think Fred Fredburger Looks WAAYYY different than he does in the show?

Reading Atoms' blog entry from a few posts back it doesn't seem like a series is likely. In fact, I wouldn't even hold my breath for another special. I think this one is all we're probably getting.

Also anyone else think Fred Fredburger Looks WAAYYY different than he does in the show?Of course. The re-design was intentional.

And the creator of the show was bothered by the spoilers in that review? Wow.

I was out and unable to catch this movie and I'm sorry I didnt, it looks as if everyone here thought it was very enjoyable. I will have to look for a replay and check it out. I will be looking for that Chowder cameo, even though I am not a very big fan of the show.

I watched this special last night, and I thought it was hilarious! Fred Fredburger looked quite different than he did in Billy and Mandy. Irwin's "costume" gave me a great laugh as well. I really wouldn't mind seeing a sequel or even a series come out of this.

Well, he rarely visits the channel, so he may not know about all the new shows (and TV-14 movies) CN airs.
