New Venture Brothers Right Now On The Fix And Sunday Night On Adult Swim at 11:30PM. It's the Third Season Finale And Note That Season 4 Is Projected To Start Around Next Year in the fall (aka 3rd Quarter 2009) so hopefully only a year or so wait from this one. here's the synopsis for it.
SYNOPSIS:
"Heads will fly as the explosive conclusion of the Venture Brothers two part season finale finds Brock and the Venture family on the run from the law, The Monarch, Sgt Hatred and the entire OSI! Only bald inguenity and an unlikley ally can possibly save they're necks from the deadly noose tightening around the Venture Compound, but they stand to loose so much more when they learn the hard way that you can't go home again.
REVIEW:
The Ending Of This One Isn't A "Get They're Clothes" or a "Monarch I'm" kind of shocker and I kind of think that the last season finale did a better job of balancing all the characters out (then again there are more characters here that can easily get lost in the mess) but this was a still a top season finale. I was confused at first why OSI was breathing down the Assassins down Brock's throat but the twist at the end really did make sense: turns out that the assassins were sent by Moltov as a way for her to elimnate the compettion for her Black Hearts squadron (humorously including Gathers) to be the top assasin dogs. Pretty clever and makes sense that despite the OSI's code of secrey and rules that they wouldn't just want to off Brock because he quit like that. I also like how Brock tried playing The Monarch and General Trester's troops against each other in a highlty combative battle. Very good stuff there, espically with the inclusion of the clone army and Hank coming more up to terms with his man ness (none of the lucky shots like what happened in season two finale but trying to inspire people is nice character development for him as Dean still tries to whimper into kiddom. makes more sense for him to only show his stuff uninentonally when compared to Hank if you think about it) and The Monarch's super suit going out of control and the ending shocker where Brock quits and 24 dies. (After what happened with how The gentleman was brought back I really don't see them killing off 24 for good. I see him disappearing for awhile leaving a greieven more serious 21 until 24 comes back in some uh... I can't explain way now but I'm sure the creators will). Lots of good lines too: "What is this? Bad cop and retarded cop?" The Monarch and the henchmen trying to interrogtate H.E.L.P.e.R and Mrs. Dr Playing the "hot cop", the Mr. Clean esque guy killing everyone, Brock commenting on Moltov's normal attire, the Monarch showing up as Trester's troops to take Brock down, everyone meeting at the compound, Sgt Hatred still wanting to die and then bucking up and the whole "you only live once" quote to Hank. I don't know just where season 4 will go but I'm sure somewhere pretty interesting espically with Brock out of the picture of the Ventures, The black Hearts ready to move out, and 24 seemingly dead (Hey I ain't trusting the team of killing anyone off until we see them die specifically onscreen. No car explosions or anything like that).
Well that's it. Enjoy Everyone!

I have to say part 2 was not what I was expecting at all. I thought Part 1 was one of the best episodes ever. I think I will watch it again tonght, and post further comments after more people have seen it.

Must agree. Didn't expect any of this at all.
Monarch's power suit was hilarious as hell and poor, poor 24.

So if I predict someone dies, they just quit their job.
Wow, that was graphic, for something that didn't have blood in it (oh wait, the butterfly troops bled).
And for a show that's not really funny, I will give it to them that they can still be interesting to watch, and if that fails,
just damn weird.

Oh, those poor, poor clones!
How could they do that to those poor clones? What did they expect them to do?
And is anyone starting to feel some sympathy for the monarch's henchmen?
Especially.........
24!!!! NOOOOO!!!!!
...that's what you get for acting so cocky toward #1.

A little underwhelming, but so was the season 2 finallie. It was right on par with season 2, complete with an ultimate battle.
gotta love that the built up all that Phantom Limb stuff this season for nothing currently..

24 dead? Impossible! Shinanagins has been declared!
What was the point of building up all this Guild and villain stuff? It didn't seem to go any where.
I'll have to watch this again, maybe there is something I missed.

Dude, I was totally expecting to hear the Imperial March when I saw the clones doing their thing. 24, man I hope it isn't true:crying:! Sgt. Hatred, never liked him and I was hoping the boys would get revenge for that little incident. But I was proven wrong and I was glad too:anime:! As for Brock, well I'm sure he won't be out of the picture for long so that's a relief! One things for sure, I don't know how they are going to resolve all of these events in the fourth season and I am as happy as hell that we won't have to wait two years to find out, so yay!!!!:D :D :D :D :anime: :anime: :anime: :anime:

Wow, this is weird. In the last two episodes this show has gone from simply being my favorite comedy to being in the running for my favorite action/adventure show, and I say this as an unrepentant anime fan. Under the cloak of satire, the creators have really managed to ramp up the action quotient almost to the point where the show has become what it initially parodied. It's still a warped, cynical black comedy, yes, but I really felt that kid-watching-saturday-morning-cartoons thrill with both of these episodes. I'm kind of shocked. When did they manage to sneak peanut butter in my chocolate?

And thus VBS3 comes to a close.
H.E.L.P.er.'s interrogation is classic Monarch.
"Paranoid delusions"..."oral fixation"..."arrested development"..."crybaby"..."Stockholm syndrome"...explains a lot. :P
Dr. Mrs. M is good.
Hank still remembers "Dawn" from season two's Love-Bheits?
"Look what you did! Now you don't get to go on the murder crusade!"
Love the music during the fight between the henchmen and the OSI.
More of Sgt. Self-hatred.
And they say buckling up saves lives.
How does Hank know about the--oooooh, Viva los Muertos. I remember now.
Venture Bros. Episode 39: Attack of the Clones.
The Monarch in his panoply--.

For a second there, I didn't think they would pull off another big battle at the end of the episode... then the Butterflies, OSI soldiers, and Venture brother clones attacked each other. Comapred to the first part it was a little underwhelming, but it was still good in the humor department. Hank's pansy years line about Dean's heart attack was hilarious, and Monarch's delay because he was putting on an unmovable suit which resulted in several graphic clone deaths was great. And man, 24 sure screwed up big time with the seatbelt...
Overall, it was a nice season. It started off a bit weak, but it got back into its groove as the episodes went on.

I'm not willing to believe 24 is gone for good, not yet.
Using the "March of the Wooden Soldiers" theme as the Hank and Dean clones marched in was perfect - unfortunately, they weren't as durable as wooden soldiers ...
The Monarch's battle armor likely wasn't built by Stark Industries. And of course Brock took his f---ing car - as if the Monarch could have stopped him after puking all over himself.
Not sure who's the bigger b-tch - Dr. Girlfriend for manipulating H.E.L.P.er, or Molotov for using Brock to wipe out OSI. Heck, maybe it's Hunter, he's a woman now.
And Sgt. Hatred needs help. (And a job.) Badly.
See you in 2009.

Alas 24, How well we knew ye...
For he was but a Rose in the butterfly suit. He was the man who was never really clueless, but always the one who seemed indestructible. He was a man who put 21's life into perspective...and above all... he was the most.... Human... Human for a guy in a butterfly costume..
No fond farewells...No goodbyes. Au Revoir 24... you shall be missed.
R.I.P. Henchman 24 1969-2008. For he truly was ... human...Even though he dressed as a man in a butterfly outfit.
As for Season 4? Well What can we say... Now we know the rest... of the story... But let's face it... 24's demise was not in vain. For now we all know that OSI didn't want to kill Sampson.. but then why hire assassins? Why not do it themselves..
At least now, 24 is free...free to float with the rest of the henchmen who went before him... including Speedy...
Good bye 24... it's the end of 21's world as we know it, and he feels fine..
or is it??????
Edited Note: After talking with a good artist friend of mine, he just pointed out perhaps the biggest thing that makes you wonder..
Is 24 Really Dead?
Or maybe.. he faked his own death!
Case in Point.. In the scene where Dr. Girlfriend gets up out of the chair, we see a close up of the detonator that went to the Bomb on H.E.L.P.E.R's back left in the chair as Mrs Monarch goes out to tend to her husband.. So then the next question that comes up is this.. Who pushed the button? Not the Monarch or Dr. Girlfriend, or even anyone else.. so ergo, 24 must have switched places with another person then pressed the button himself..
So that guy getting blown up in the next to final scene ISN'T 24! 24 had to have detonated the device himself! Ergo, then who was that Nameless flaming head we see? It can't be 24... so ergo, 24 is alive.. but somewhere in hiding..
so Let the speculating begin..

OK, I'm probably going to make myself look really stupid here, but:
Did they ever reveal if Sgt. Hatred's wife was actually planning to leave him, or was that just his own paranoid speculation? I sat through the whole episode and I don't recall them ever concluding that.
peterg14
08-25-2008, 08:50 AM
Well, they never really said it, but it was implied in the last episode where Hatred got the text on his big phone that said "We need to talk". Dr. Mrs. The Monarch said that "We need to talk" is buttering up for a break up.
Ah, 24, or should I say Gary. You always stood out from the other henchmen while looking exactly the same. Say hi to Speedy for me...if your really dead. I STILL BELIEVE IN YOU 24/GARY/RAY ROMANO! And does all those dead clones mean that Hank and Dean are on their last lives? I mean if they die again, they die for good and there's no coming back in clones since their all dead.
Interesting note, I thought I saw Triana and Kim in the Black Hearts thing, but I could have wrong.

I gotta say I was underwhelmed by this one. In fact, I've been disappointed by this entire season. Where did all the funny go? Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the continuity nods and the multi-season story arcs but the show seems to have sacrificed a lot of the comedy to push these aspects. It really doesn't even feel like a comedy at this point, I'd say it's more of dramedy action toon. That's a novel concept but I think I would've prefered if the series featured more eps like "Dr. Qumyn Medicine Woman" that aren't so continuity heavy.

Good bye 24... it's the end of 21's world as we know it, and he feels fine..Actually, it might be the beginning of 21's new life.
At the beginning of season 2 if VB, while the monarch was in jail, 21 and 24, outside of costume, were talking to each other and 21 was talking about dropping the henchmen job, going pro and becoming villians.
With the death of 24 might actually spurn 21 to go pro and become is own villian. Given 21's knowledge and survivablity as a henchman, that might be fun to watch.

So, am I the only one who thinks the Monarch's "Death's Head Panoply" was a slight ref/parody of Xanatos's armor? I was thinking Iron Man at first, and then the wings popped out. Not to mention, it has several design similarities.

another good possibility Paul is that 24 might not be dead but rather "On the Lam" as it were, After all maybe he got tired of doing his job and after his little stint with Dr. Killenger, maybe he wanted to team up with a real villian Namely Dr. Killenger.
Also since Brock quit per se, it would be ironic if 24 and Brock somehow encounter each other in of all places, the strip club Brock frequents. Of course since Hunter Gathers is there as well, well I have to say that maybe it's Hunter who's trying to off Brock here.
Also if you look at the end, I could have sworn that if Not Kim and Treanna had joined the Black Hearts, then if you look closely you have 3 women who look vaguely like Sam, Clover, and Alex, out of Totally Spies in that one final scene where Molatov is toasting the formation of the Blackhearts..(I mean here's where a screen cap is usually best done.
But that's my thoughts on 24's so called Demise. and who knows? maybe the Moppets were pushing the buttons...

I think it's a Last Starfighter parody, given the "spinning and shooting in random directions," deal.
Good finale. WAY better than Season 2's in that it didn't require reading a wikipedia entry to appreciate it. Season 3 as a whole could have used maybe a few less episodes that sacrificed comedy for backstory, but for the most part, enjoyable.

We've been seeing this trend for a while now, as it has steadily built up over the last two seasons. Part 1 of this finale was pretty great, IMO, and it balanced a dramatic story with comedic elements. Part 2...not so much. Things were much more random, not in a funny way but in a plain out-of-nowhere way. The "death" of 24--real or not--came so far out of left field and left us hanging so quickly it killed what little integrity this story arc had left.
I do appreciate, at the very end, we are finally given the true reason for all of this insane destruction, but it comes too little, too late. So what if Molotov is starting a new assassin group? I don't actually care. Is this a serious enough plot development that we devoted two and a half episodes to building it up? Was it worth all of this insanity? Why didn't she just ask the bounty hunters to go after each other instead, and then finish off the survivor?
With another season coming, I'm still anxious to see where things go from here. But I'm hoping beyond hope that the writers come off their drama kick soon and give us more comedic one-shots. That's what Venture Bros. excels at. Not drama. Sorry, but that's just how I feel.

Overall, season 3 felt different from past Venture Bros. seasons. At first it felt like it was finding its way with the fundamental change being the Monarch no longer able to 'arch' Dr. Venture. Then, the writers felt it was good to fill up alot of the background on the characters and I can't say that that was a bad thing... but the whole season just felt like an entirely different animal, so to speak.
When I look back on it, I really don't see why Molotov would have to mess up Brock's life so much or why that Hunter Gathers guy/girl would stab his protoge' in the back. Just seemed like a waste of the few 'positives' in Brock Sampson's life. I mean, imagine being in Brock's head... what equal peers are left that he can now trust???
And then they go and kill 24? The hell you say!!!?
But the biggest overall problem I got with season 3 is ----> the Monarch. Talk about getting away with anything and everything this pompous psycho can think of. He flagrantly violates Guild rules to suit his purposes, and was it me, but he finally slides from being a likable villian to becoming the arrogant, evil ***hole you wouldn't mind seeing get killed off?

Yea, not how i predicted the season to end either.
I guess its kinda nice that Phantom Limb didnt return at the end, like how i predicted it to be. This completely not how i saw this season ending, really good.
So looks like brock will go freelance next season, and probably take out Mol's Black Hearts group, or might join them, who knows.
So it going to be a long year or year and a half before we see the new season, and im not even sure how that will take off.
Some reason, i think 24 "might" come back in some way, like a Robo-24. Hammer really made the fanbase sad when we saw how 24 died.

I haven't had a chance to comment on this yet. Here are my random thoughts:
1. the interrogation session with Dr. Venture & Brock was brutal!
2. I enjoyed the "March of the Wooden Soldiers" part with those clones.:D
3. I kinda felt sorry for the robot when it blew up Dr. Monarch's car.:(
4. Molotov and the Black Assassins were ultra-hot!!!:D I hope we get to see more of them in next year's season 4.:D
Not a bad way to end the season. The first part was more action-packed, IMO.
Well, since season 4 won't be until next year, this'll give me a chance to check out the first 2 seasons on DVD that I bought a while ago.
I can't wait to check the Christmas special! It should be wild!:)

But I will say the fans of 24 will revolt and there will be another uprising..(Hey if the Kim Possible fans gave Kim her senior year graduation, complete with changes, then I say the 24 fans revolt and demand 24 back..else the show will hit the toilet and there won't be a Season 5!)
After all it would be nice to see even "The Ghost of 24" return to lead 21 down the road to destruction, by making him turn evil and hench someone...(Scooby Doo, where are you when we need you?)
But yep.. the fans are gonna revolt!

Hey, All!
My name is Kevin Karstens, Im a net cartoonist/animator for a living...and I was completely disheartened to witness the recent apparent demise of Henchman 24.
So much so, that I thought it would be fun to do an animatic w/ sound showing how he actually loved...all is well, until Brock runs into him, unexpectedly.
Here's what I have so far, with a link to some storyboard art and the work in progress animatic...opinions appreciated, let me know what you think so far...
