Tomorrow night, episode 17 of Code Geass, also currently on ASV! Wow, hard to believe it's 17 already. Time flies when you're having fun.

Since this is the first review I'm putting it in spoiler tags which I'll remove come Saturday Night.

It's kind of an old cliche really: Two masked men going against each other, both fighting on different sides but with sort of similar ideals. These tales of hero and they're rival are nearly as old as anime themselves and one of the bigger cliches is after awhile eventually one side finds out who the other side is. So really the question wasn't if Lelouche was going to figure out that his best friend was actually one of his worst enemies: it was when. Afterall Lelouche being unmasked by Suzaku wouldn't yield nearly as many (or as long spun) ideas as vice versa. Now everyone knows who Suzaku is as Lelouche finally found a way to beat him as well as that he'd be able to protect Nunnally while he was busy saving Japan. It could of happened a lot later but really Im glad it happened when it did: With how much Suzaku has been interferring as well as how much time he has spent with Lelouche it should of been obvious at one point or another. Now that everyone knows though the game plan is defintley going to change: Afterall if there's anything more maddening then having to kill a prick of a half brother or even having to destroy your own father to make peace, it seems finding out who your best friend really is will drive you the quickest to insanity as shown by Lelouche at the end. For once all the plots of the eps converge (besides the hint of Kaname/Villetta, the later of which dosen't even appear in this one) upon that revlation as well as the Knights getting new mechs and Tohodoh and the four holy swords officaly joining the heroes side. Which made for some pretty good mech combat (I espically like that for once they were able to use coordination to defeat Suzaku before the big reveal anyway) and yeah a fair bit of preaching but interesting preaching nonthless. And though Lelouche lost his white knight seems Eupehmma offically gained hers as well as some courage to actually speak against the crowd. Some pretty interesting stuff. Of course now that he knows Suzaku is his true on the field enemy how will Lelouche reacto seeing him again on and off the battlefield? And just when will Suzaku start realizing his ways of tyring to worm in through the system aren't really going to matter (unless this Eupemina/Suzaku relationship is played for more then some romantical overtones). That's something to try and find out. Overalll though another good ep without any real dull spots and nice use of the mechas in combat after having gone awhile without that. And I'm not talking about the week break either.

Does anyone get turned off by the in-show songs?

Maybe it's just because it's unexpected.

Today's started off cool, like it was going to be a new BGM, then the lyrics broke in and you just go 'ehhhh...' >_>;

Does anyone get turned off by the in-show songs?I looove the song that plays in this episode. Gets me pumped up for the upcoming fight every time I hear it.

Anyway, this is one of my favorite Geass episodes. It's about time one of them figured out they were fighting their best friend. Lelouch's laugh at the end is haunting; not according to plan, eh?

I love Cornelia, but deciding to have Suzaku serve as Todoh's executioner is just cruel.

And Euphie picking Suzaku to be her knight is such a *squee* moment for the SuzaEuphie shipper in me :p

Oh, and Rakshata! Laura Bailey? Took me a moment, but I like it.

Indeed. The similarities between Lelouch and Light Yagami continue.
Both are very cocky when things go according to their strategies, but throw in a variable they can't control, and they both lose it.

Awesome episode. Question, though. What was the name of the insert song they played when Tohdoh got into his Knightmare?

wow, already episode 17. Doesn't feel like it.

Oh how the plot thickens. Lelouch goes a little bit more nutso after seeing Suzaku is his enemy. Way to go for the laugh. I giggled when Suzaku was explaining to Nunally the sound of a frog. Kerokerokerokero Keroro?
Rakshata needs to be a little more lusty sounding in my opinion. Her voice seems too...sweet.

Todoh, however old you may be, you are still sexy regardless. mm mmmm

Agreed. She sounds like a valley girl trying to sound lusty and failing miserably. It could work, but she needs to lower her tone and add a little grit.

Last time: A recurring theme of deaths in the family.

You're gonna carry that weight.

What wins top prize? A fully-armored Britannian soldier standing valiantly over a pile of Eleven corpses?

Euphie and Nunnally need knights.

No more mind-reading freaks with shades, okay?

We ask that you let Euphie ANSWER QUESTIONS ASKED OF HER!

Suzu's beheading Todou?! Doesn't he have enough on his plate right now?

Would you like me to shoot you now, before your execution date?

You know Bosch is really growing into his role. I'm liking him a lot.

(anyone realized that Michelle Ruff is doing three shows? Bleach, Geass and Gurren Lagaan?)

(Come to think of it so is Bosch)

So Suzaku's going to kill Todoh? Considering who the voices are, that's kind of........alluding to something.

They changed one line that I know of.

The part when Leloush asks Nunnally if she is found of Suzaku. She originally said "I love him", in this version it is "I adore him". I guess they didn't trust us not to take that out of contex.

He could either shoot him here and now or wait till he gets home.

They quit before they had a chance?

And Lancelot comes charging in.

Don't pick the one with the pompous windbag on it!

And everyone's cell phone goes off at once.

The mask comes off. And Lulu's in for a shock.

"Again, don't you think I know the Empire sucks?"

The Zero you have dialed is not in service at this time. Please make sure you have dialed correctly.

Lulu luluses it.

So much for Nunnally's babysitter.

JYB had nice delivery on Lelouch's "You must take responsibility for your miracle!" line. Todoh vs. Suzaku was also good stuff, in terms of both fighting and words.

Instead of Suzaku becoming Nunnally's knight, his actions have made him Euphemia's. Time and again, whenever things seem to be going perfect for Lelouch, a new problem brings him down to Earth again.

Seriously the way this series is going I do not see a happy ending for Lelouch just from that creepy laugh of his.

With only 9 more episodes until the second part this is going to be interesting.

This is combined with the fact that Kallen and Ohgi heard every bit of that "maniacal laughter".

So, how come they didn't hear him talk about Nunnally? He obviously had communication with the other knights since he was giving them orders before. I never understand how communication works in these mecha shows.

Lelouch's speech to Todoh was fantastic. One of the reasons I love Code Geass is Lelouch's speeches. That and the great mini battle that happened right after.

He was thinking that. His lips didn't move.

I wonder who Euphemia would have picked as the painting winner. Probably would have picked the first painting she saw. Poor Euphie.

A-HA! I KNEW I RECOGNIZED BLIND/LAME LITTLE SISTER'S VOICE SOMEWHERE! It turns out she played the cannonball girl in that Rurouni Kenshin filler I was watching earlier this week... well, now that annoyance is out of my head.

And this whole time Lelouch hasn't known Suzaku is piloting the other mech!?

...where have I been? Then again, I didn't watch episodes 5-13...

Thanks to a power outage last night I had to use ASV for the first time to watch this episode...

Sure got pretty intense during the second half, and even with Suzaku at a disadvantage, he was still doing a pretty good job fighting four people at the same time. Wonder what Lelouch will do now that he knows who the pilot of the (K?)nightmare is.

I wonder how Lelouch is going to deal with the cold truth that his friend is also his enemy. The laughter at the end isn't exactly a good omen, but I'm almost certain that he'll find a way to overcome his emotions (I hope it's not by abandoning them, though). Kallen seemed pretty shaken up too, but since she wasn't the one who was cackling like a deranged maniac I think she'll get over it.

I like the insert song, but it was kind of hard to hear over the explosions and the screeching tires. Oh well.

Overall, I liked the episode. Euphemia choosing Suzaku was totally unsurprising but still nice.

Johnny confirmed this weekend that Troy Baker plays a certain character that'll appear later...or has appeared in the opening but has yet to make an official appearance. :D

Speaking of Johnny, damn, he practically made Lelouch his own now. I really like it. Sort of makes me wish he redubbed the first 12 or so episodes, but he's doing great.

Oh, yeah, Laura Bailey does Rakshata.

well, this was a very interesting eppy. Lulu finding out about Suzaku was classic, and something that was actually more suprising than Suzaku being made a Knight for Euphemia. Still, the recruitment of the "Holy Swords" was very nicely done. Can't wait to see the interaction between Lulu, Suzaku, and Kallen (She HAS to notice if Lulu is acting strangely or not.)
