For a while now, I've had a broadband connection from Virgin Media (formerly ntl). Not perfect but generally ok. However, since May the connection has consistently cut out and more often than not barely lasts 5 minutes. I'm one of many people across the country receiving this crap service and Virgin sees no reason to correct this.

I'm planning to switch ISPs but have no idea who to go with. I'm hoping the over UK members here can help me out.

This is important.

My ISP's Wanadoo, they seem okay. 'Fraid I'm not really an expert on the subject, so I can't really say more than that...

I'm not in the UK, but you may want to look at DSL Reports' UK broadband forum (http://www.dslreports.com/forum/ukbb). Their US forums are really good, so it may be a good place to look for advice.

It's been suggested elsewhere, but I found it of little use. Hence I'm more directly asking the UK members here. I really need their feedback.

I'm ignorant about this, but maybe this place isn't: http://www.ispreview.co.uk/review/top10.php

It's a big site, but if you click on that link and look on the left you'll see ten ISP's that are best reviewed by the users.

I'm afraid I can't be of much help. I've usually had to rely on dorm-room ethernet or shared-house wireless services, so whatever decisions taken in regards to ISPs have always been out of my hands (as far as I know, we use BT in this house, though the connection speeds are hardly stellar). I only know my parents use Orange. Don't use them. They're molly-coddling, amateurish and completely useless.

This is what Britain gets for having a poorly-funded, lacklustre broadband network that trails most of Europe...

I've had two ISPs Hellcat.

1. Bulldog.

A bit stingy with the old download limits but rarely cut out. Overall about 6/10 I'd say.

2. Sky

Ultra cheap if you subscribe to Sky (either free or £5 a month for 40GB download limit/ month or £10 for unlimited). Very very solid. Fast. Haven't had a problem yet. 9/10

My parents have also had:

1. Aol

EXPENSIVE, annoyingly insist on using their own browser.

2. BT Broadband

Constant problems, not that cheap, system-hogging, slow. Not good.

Thank you very much to both of you for your time and courtesy :)
