My new microphone doesn't work!

I just bought a new recording microphone and it doesn't work jack squat! It's Logitch USB Desktop mic for my Gateway computer, and have tried everything to get it to work. Sound Recorder won't pick anything up. I've checked the audio levels, made sure everything is turned on, everything in the troubleshooting manual. Nothing. I need some help. Thanks.

Have you tried plugging it somewhere else? That's a dead-on way to knowing if it's your computer or the mike.

I've tried the two front Tower USB ports, and one in the back. Nothing.

It was probably one of the things your troubleshooting manual suggested, but did you check the box underneath the microphone slider in your system's Recording Control window?

I have the same problem. My mic won't work on my pc, but when I plug it into my step-dad's pc, it works just fine. I wonder if this has anything to do with my computer being Vista...:shrug:

It's Vista. I recently tried to get a mic working on a Vista computer. It does not happen.

Mic's in general hate Vista.

Get yourself a classic plug mic. USB plugs combined with Vista are nothing but trouble, as Vista has such a protective system that it won't let you use anything without excessive tweaking in the config.

Unless your hardware is busted, classic mics work no matter what. I have four different mics, and tried them in three different computers, all with Vista. They all work without trouble.

I got my mic to work, but t only functions on the Movie Maker. It doesn't work at all on the Sound Recorder.
