I'd heard about that, and was curious about it (saw a bit of the original film when I was a kid, and it scared the heck out of me), but it looks like the sequel is going straight to DVD instead of theaters:

So maybe Genndy T. can now move onto Jack. God, I hope it's going to be rendered in lushly-animated 2D. Kung Fu Panda proved how effective and awesome that style of animation can be on the big screen.

I dunno... while it'd be nice to have Jack back in action, I'm skeptical on the voice of Aku after the passing of Mako. Can anyone "HA. HA. HA." as well as he can?

Just because it's a DVD release doesn't mean Genndy still can't be working on it. Plus I heard he's working on the Astro Boy film too, as well as the [as] show Korgoth of Barbaria, and he's pitching some shows to HBO. So who knows when Jack will happen. But it will happen. Eventually.

Even if it was Genndy simply helped and advised on boarding a few scenes. He didn't create the series nor was he highly involved in it's production. He wouldn't be tied up with the show because he was never entwined in it to begin with.

10 years?? Hardly. The show started in 2001. 10 years ago you would be becoming acquainted with the Powerpuff Girls.

Right. Totally Spies will always be my number 1 show I am sorry but Samurai Jack does not even come close to Totally Spies for me. There's nothing I would want to see more than Totally Spies.

just an update. i emailed frederator films a couple weeks ago for all of us who had our doubts that this was still on. heres their response:

"Nope, Samurai Jack is not dead. Genndy is busy writing, but things in the world of feature films take ten times longer than you'd think.

Thanks for the interest.

Yes, it a Cartoon Network Original. In fact, Samurai Jack is technically a Cartoon Cartoon. Cartoon Network will help promote it, and it will be a theatrical movie.

Samurai Jack wasn't technically a Cartoon Cartoon. It never aired with the Cartoon Cartoon jingle before it.

But most Cartoon Cartoons aired with the jingle before very single airing. I kinda consider Samurai Jack to be a Cartoon Cartoon, but in reality I'm pretty much sure that it's not.

Well, it doesn't have to be produced by the studio itself to be a CNOM movie. It features CN characters and the movie will most likely be owned by CN, and it might even co-produce.

Well, the brief return of 2008 shouldn't be taken into consideration as much as it's actual run should (2001-2004) since 1) the 2008 return gave it only one slot a week, and 2) that slot was unadvertised. And yet still, an episode or two managed to make the top 10 lists for the week. The actual run got good ratings though.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was a limited release theatrical movie, with the DVD coming out right after the theatrical debut.

Ouch, what happened again? Not enough promotion?

Well at least the budget was incredibly low for an animated movie (even South Park's movie had a bigger budget).

Eh, it doesn't exactly say that the movie will be released theatrically. And as TheVileOne pointed out, the Powerpuff Girls movie wasn't particularly a success considering it was released at the height of the series' popularity, and Samurai Jack, while it has plenty of fans, has nothing on the popularity of the Powerpuff Girls.

It wasn't lack of promotion. The movie was very well promoted.

Craig McCracken himself said in an interview (I think with IGN) that the movie failed because there wasn't enough promotion as there should've been. They promoted the heck out of it on Cartoon Network, but nowhere else really. Also, it is true that the movie was released when PPG dropped in popularity. Now if it had been more efficiently promoted and was actually made and released at around 2000, then it probably would've done well.
