Just heard about the Earthquake. :(

It was pretty scary. I was at work when it happened and the entire building shook like crazy! And cell phones didn't work for about a half hour (so my co-workers and I had to take turns calling our families on the land-line). :(

Governor Terminator just did a press conference and, thank goodness, it looks like no one was killed and injuries were minimal.
However, I am getting tired of the constant coverage of the quake on the news. Instead of reporting on the important facts (how many injuries, which businesses/schools are closed, which cities were effected the most, etc.) the local news stations keep pulling people off the street to tell their "I WAS _______ WHEN IT HAPPENED!!" stories. Really, nobody freakin' cares if Jane Doe of Pomona was getting a manicure when the earthquake hit. :p

Felt it all the way here in San Diego, I've even heard that tremors were felt all the way east in Vegas.

Hah, I know what you mean, there are still a lot of news coverage on insignificant news like that, and it was 6 hours ago already. Although I do hope those without power and have gas leaks (Riverside?) would have things back to normal soon.

Glad you guys are okay.

I heard through the grapevine that Chino was the epicenter, not Riverside (my boss lives in Riverside, and his neighborhood is okay).

And as much as I complain about the stupid local news; I laughed when I saw the story about the tourists getting pissed off because Disney Land shut down a bunch of their rides after the quake. :p

I was talking about the gas leak, but I guess that was somewhere else.

And now I feel bad about those Disney Cast Members! I know of a couple of them and they already get yelled at by guests when fireworks are delayed/cancelled. And having rides shut down, I can only picture angry parents demanding refunds :rolleyes2:

Yeah. I feel sorry for the Disney Land employees who have to explain to the stupid, angry parents that its not a good idea to run Space Mountain during a major earthquake.

^I second what he said. I've never had to go through an earthquake (at least I hope I never have to) but I can't imagine it being any less than horrible.

Yeah I read that on the news this morning, like 5.7-5.8 and apparently it was felt from Vegas to LA and San Diago.

Being an Arkansas resident, I don't live in the LA area right now; however, I did experience my first felt earthquake this morning (currently in Orange County right now). I was in bed during the time. I may have felt two tremors. During the first one, I thought I was just simply waking up from a bad dream, and I didn't care. The second time, I asked myself, "did I just witness an earthquake?" I was not scared or anything, but I wanted to turn on the TV to check and see if it really happened. There was something that said "breaking news" on the screen, and indeed, a 5.4 magnitude (originally said to be a 5.8) hit just outside of Chino Hills in San Bernardino County. I was thinking, "whoa, I did feel something." We noticed that a few plastic bottles fell to the floor. That was pretty much it, though. Now I can say that I've been through one. It was, uh...interesting! :p

Thank God nothing too bad happened.

I'm actually going there in two weeks, and I don't think we British are getting any coverage at all!

Perhaps you aren’t getting much coverage overseas because no serious damage has been done. We’re just getting much info on the quake because there hasn’t been one in that magnitude in the area for a long time.

Our poor model in class is from the East coast and had never been through a Cali quake. She was pretty freaked out by it.

Could this have been merely a tremor of the "Big One" to come?

http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/07/29/earthquake.ca/

There's a 99% chance of southern California experiencing a magnitude 6.7 or greater earthquake in the next 30 years.

Perhaps this is a sign that the big breaking point is nearing?

I wouldn't worry about it. People have been predicting "The Big One" for years. And those predictions always come out right after a big earthquake (after the Northridge quake, I couldn't watch the news because all the doomsday talk scared me!!). :o
