Now it's been like 15 years since I've seen this cartoon, and I'm not even sure of the name.

From what I can remember, it was a color short (assumably from the mid-late 1930's) about a boy who had a BB gun and eventually shot a bird. All of the bird's friends flew down and held a very somber funeral on the spot, and the boy was so heartbroken that he decided that he'd never use the gun (or perhaps any gun) again, and the bird revealed that it was alright after all, flying away with its friends.

I don't know if it was a "Color Classic" from Fleischer or a Harman/Ising short. Does anyone remember its name and where it came from? Or did I just dream this?

I think it must be this Fleischer cartoon (http://www.archive.org/details/A_Song_Of_The_Birds_1935)

Ah, yes - a Fleischer classic! It's a shame how underappreciated the Fleischer stuff still is...
