Well, we are getting near the end of the show, but that doesn't mean things stop being interesting. Also, the show will be airing tomorrow in its new timeslot of 12:30 AM Eastern. That's good news for DN fans.

I liked how Light is still trying to play the role of L, while working with Near. I felt it was a strong moment when Light had to choose whether or not to kill his own sister, which was a hard decision for him to make. I was glad he chose not to, though.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
She's so effin annoying. Is it wrong I loved it when he yelled like that? Somebody needed to. I totally feel his pain.

I love the BGM that starts when Mello gets on the phone with papa Yagami. Silly FBI. He's apart of the mafia. He can do what ever he wants. Shoot missiles, blow up helicopters. He can even steal your laundry, AND your chocolate.

Brilliant scene of Light leaning back in the chair after loosing the notebook. Defeat sure is bitter. Shoulda killed Sayu, Light. She's only a minor character anyways.

Poor Misa. She was better off with Higuchi.

You'd think the US would be able to track a missile. If not then NORAD is pretty worthless.

This episode should be quite a thriler. Kira's only optinion seems to be to kill Syau... but this is Death Note, so anything goes.

not realy, most missiles like that go out of the earths apmosphere and then re-enter the earth to land at the target location, they cant track that, its too fast too.

If Light didn't care to kill his best friend I doubt he'll care to kill his sister considering he had no problem offing the investigation team...led by his own pappy. Light would only spare Sayu because it would benefit him or he figured he could use it to his advantage.

L was never Light's best friend. Light was just acting like a friend to keep L off his game and it worked perfectly.

Something like this could more or less be taken in many ways but L was a rival to Light, yes. Maybe deep down Light also felt like this friend but either way, he and L were 'close'.

Crud, I feel more for her. This evil guy has been using her for years and she still believes it's true love. When you think about what they probably do in the bedroom and how he's only in it to pleasure himself and would rather kill her....it makes me sick.

It's hilarious how absurd most of the second half of the episode became, yet, I was still glued to the screen wanting to know what happens next. It was also funny how, for Near and Mellow, it's more about beating each other than it is to capture Kira in the name of justice.

I wonder how Near and L used to interact with each other, that would be a weird sight. They'd both be squatting awkwardly in their chairs staring vacantly at each other with those big, haunted eyes in silence...I bet they had some fun parties!

In unrelated news, I felt so bad for Misa the way Light was treating her. I mean yeah she's a clueless, sometimes-annoying ditz but she doesn't deserve to get yelled at like that by a 'loved one'. And when he slapped the drink out of her hand, that was just harsh! Poor Misa :crying:

What was with that bit at the end? Ryuk's book is actually stolen from another Shinigami? Is that what he said?

Yes, it was mentioned about 30 episodes or so ago that Ryuk snuck two notebooks out of the shinigami world. He dropped one which Light found, and he keeps the other one on him, but he's never used it in the series. I was actually wondering where Ryuk got his other notebook from. I'm glad they finally explained it.

By the way, is it just me, or does this new shinigami(Shido, was it?) sound like Jason from Home Movies.

I'm glad that Papa Yagami chose his own daughter instead of the Death Note. It may have been a hard decision, but I think that he chose the right one.

And Light decides not to kill his own sister after all. He's still an evil bastard.

You'd think that Misa would get a clue by now and dump Light. Sure he may be the one who killed her parents' killer, but he also shown time again and again that he doesn't care about her and is just willing to use her. But apparently not. If she hasn't learned by now, she'll never learn.

I also want to know how a gang can get their hands on a missile. Either way, that gang is amazingly well funded.

Err, wow, watching all those members of the SPK die like that. Makes you think twice about wanting to catch Kira.

(edited by me for no reason other than to find my train of thought)

ok, this episode became real silly with the whole underground based stocked with getaway missiles. Yea, L's tower was a bit of a reach, except that it "could" happen, but would have needed at least a couple of years before hand to be built, but a MISSILE??? you would think that would raise red flags in whatever country they had this underground base (not sure if it was america or not).

As for Misa and Light, I would feel bad for Misa, except that she already knows this arrangement. remember, she has given her life to Light, even saying that she expected him to kill her, and that she would do anything for him just to be near him. for her, just having Light acknowledge her validates her. Sad, yes, but remember, her devotion to Light has not only endured all the confinement and near torture from L, but also the memory loss when she gave up her notebook. Short of daily beatings, I don't think Misa will fault Light for any of his actions. That, and not the killings, are what make her so deranged.

I knew that Light wouldn’t be able to kill his own sister.

It seemed like he had a good plan, but Mello was one step ahead of him every step of the way.

Oh, and about the infinite pages in the death note, I guess that’s true because when Light opened the small piece on the watch, Higuchi’s name was gone and he could write on it again. So I guess the name disappear after a certain period of time.

How can Near say that he doesn’t have a photograph of Mello, I thought he had one in the last episode?

This was Light's first mistake and helped L determine where Kira lives.

Light didn't actually get outsmarted, though. Mello doesn't really strike me as smarter than Light or L, but he makes up for it by being significantly more ruthless and direct than L was willing to be. For example, when the evidence point to Light and Misa not being Kira, L let them go (though under surveillance) even though he was still certain they were connected to Kira somehow. If Mello had been in L's position, he probably would have either killed Light and Misa or kept them locked up forever, even if he couldn't prove his suspicions.

Say what you will about Mellow and being emotional and sort of androgyonous (and I guess being ruthless) and enjoying snacking on super hard candy bars, but he gets his plans done. After hijacking Sayu and then an airplane and making sure no one can follow the Chief too closley and setting up a system of getting the Death Note and then having one his assocites test it out on one of they're useless members, Mellow actually gets the book. And Light's pretty much helpless to do anything. Not due to his more humane side about not wanting to kill Sayu, but his mastermind jerky side reasoning that would just make him suspcious. Between that and yelling a lot at Misa Light sure is probably pissing off all the feminists with his attidue toward women. Oh well, at least with Near's side about all gone (though Near isn't since his name is protected and I guess Mellow wants him alive anyway) that means he may not be as much of a threat, for like an ep or two. Wonder what Mellow's next move should be. Hopefully a bit more believable then the plane hijackings and missle decoys and everything. Eh still in addition to Light losing we also get a glimpse of another Shinigami, this one actually going to interact with the human world. (Way back I thought in episode 9 there would be one that wasn't Rem but turns out I misinterrepted that. Here though we deinfltye know what's coming). Okay so that makes two Shinigami, two L wannabees with vastly different ways of doing something, two "Kiras" and probably more then two reasons to tune into the next Death Note episode.

Great episode.

I figure Mello used his intellect to set up the desert base with the missile. Either it's an abandoned base (not unheard of in the USA) or somehow Mello blackmailed someone to gain control of an active one. The former being more believable but the latter would make it easier to believe that they could get their hands on a missile. Either way, it's not that unbelievable given the rest of the story (Death Note, Shinigami, etc).

I can't figure Light in this episode, though. He obviously seemed concerned about killing his sister which doesn't fit his character. Even when he finally decides against it because he reasons that only the police could know about the kidnapping, it sounded like rationalizing by Light to me. He was looking for an excuse not to kill his sister.
