Well, last week's talkback went over 200 posts. How many will this week be. Oh, and the second episode will air in its new timeslot tomorrow at 1 AM Eastern. So, that's a little victory for the show so far.
Also, please keep major spoilers out of the threads. That includes hinting at things(For example: "You thought that was good, just wait until..."). Let people watching for the first time experience the events without being spoiled.

Overall, another good episode. Ironic that Suzaku, the very person that refused to fire at Lelouch in the previous episode, ends up actually fighting him by use of the Lancelot unit, although they don't realize it. I also enjoyed Clovis' encounter with Lelouch, and how shocked Clovis seemed when Lelouch explained to him who he is.

Lulu's sudden change of attitude sure is nice. Ego trips for the win, ya?
The maniacal laugh right after Lulu begins to take the advantage was well done. That was good JYB. pravo.
LLOYD!!!What a dork. A sarcastic dork :3 He makes this show amusing.
Suzaku has pretty eyes.
Crispin does an amazing job. Did I mention Suzaku's eyes?
Lulu is basically a tactical genius. Maybe I should learn chess.
hah im such a Shinichiro Tamaki fan. Him and his constant screaming and complaining.
Curse you, family blood lines! ruining the brotherly love. Or lack of love.

Yeah, give it up to JYB to proving us wrong.
He's got the laugh down.
It was truly fantastic
Something Brad Swaile's Light will have to prove to me is good right at the end.
Kirk Thornton's Ogi sounded pretty good, didn't think it we be all that great but it was.
Liam's Lloyd is great and Yuri's Suzaku is on key.
Things are going great for the dub.
I'll post the link to the Episode 3 Preview when Bandai gets it up.

Yeah, that had to have been the best part. And, Clovis is Lelouch's half-older brother? Interesting, very interesting.

Great episode. I'm now really interested to learn more about Lulu. The mecha battles in this episode easily outdoes any Gundam series and are almost on par with EVA. There wasn't too much politics and a lot more character drama. I think I'm really starting to see what all the fuss is about.

Well, it's certainly better than the last episode... but I still feel a sense of apathy when watching. I mean, yeah, he's winning, and now he's fighting, and now he's being smart, and so forth, but I really don't care about what happens. To be honest, other than the completely over-the-top bad guys that are hilarious and fun to watch, I see no real appeal.
But hey, it's on between Death Note and Shin-Chan, so I guess I have no real excuse not to watch it... still, it hasn't risen very high above complete mediocrity to me. Is this really the best it gets?
P.S. - Am I the only one who gets REALLY annoyed by the technobabble whenever a mech is booting up or something? "Vitals low, all thrusters online" while there's weird beeps and quick shots of the various people involved. I find a a lot of anime cliches bearable, but for some reason I really hate that one.

Answer to first question: Absolutely not
Response to P.S.-you aren't alone buddy. I really find that extremely annoying. Yes I can understand that there is a lot that goes into starting up a futuristic machine and I can understand expressing that reality and complexity, but do you really think we have to hear it? Or at least all of it? Like just one or two lines saying its starting up would be fine. I felt the same way with Evangelion.

I don't know if you'll like the show then because while the action gets more intense and there's plenty of character development its essentially the same formula in use. But if your willing to watch go right ahead. That formula being a lot of Lelouch and his plans and how he deals with the unknown.
Response to P.S.-
Blame people like me because I love techno talk when they launch. Thats one of the reasons I love the new Battlestar Galactica, the way they show the raptors launching and all thats involved in that (plus the maintenance).

Very cool.
-This is Sunrise's best-looking, best-moving show in ages. Love the little animation touches like Lelouch twirling the chess piece.
-Lelouch is way cooler than Light (he gets to pilot friggin' mechs! Beat that, Kira!), and he doesn't make me want to punch his lights out every time he opens his mouth. This may be because, to some extent, he actually understands the value of consequences (I refer to his line, "Of course. Real battle is always different..."), and that he goes out of his way to save the "terrorists" when he's threatening Clovis, and makes sure that nothing else is destroyed, or no one else is killed by the Britannians.
-Speaking of which, that scene is a neat little bit of misdirection. You think that he's using the Geass until Clovis says, "There. Are you satisfied?" At which point it's revealed that Lelouch is just holding him at gunpoint.
-Me after Lelouch's reveal at the end of the episode: "Ah, the plot thickens..."
-I am beginning to think that Amy Kincaid, the actress who voices Shirley, either really has a lisp or is being directed to use one in her performance. If it's the latter, I have no idea why. The rest of the dub is awesome, and I continue to smile at actors such as Sam Regal, Liam O'Brien, Crispin Freeman, Peter Spellos, and occasionally Mr. Bosch getting to unleash their inner ham.
I continue to be intrigued by Code Geass.

Wee, I <3 the White Knight.
The dub continues to be pretty good. I'm still not loving Shirley or Kallen, but everyone else sounds good. Liam's Lloyd is fabulous. Completely spot on and over the top like he should be. Yuri's Suzaku is perfect and JYB really let loose on a laugh this episode that sold me. I thought he sounded good before but that really put me over the edge.
I love the scene where Suzaku wakes up to Lloyd and Cecil and within the span of a few moments becomes a Knightmare pilot (wee, suiting up scene ;)). And the Lancelot is badass. His launch is awesome and I lol'd at it knocking Lloyd over. Speaking of Lloyd, I've always thought the way he references Suzaku as a piece of equipment to fit into the Lancelot is... interesting. Definitely shows his mindset compared to most people
And dun dun dun, Lelouch made it all the way through to Clovis and reveals that he is royalty and was assumed dead. It's crazy to think that Lelouch went from playing chess a few hours earlier to holding Clovis at gunpoint.

Okay. Really likeing this. Can't wait for next week's episode. The designs parallel a few older animes (somewhat of X, the white/black parallel between the guy piloting Lancelot and Lelouce if that's how his name is spelled).

I liked how he (I'm just gonna call him Lulu for the sake of being simple) used his experience with chess to fight against all those forces and win. Even as he was losing, he managed to single-handedly sneak onto that base and force a retreat. Nice episode, though, I'm gonna have to watch more.

Also note, the codes Lelouch (hes name is LELOUCH) uses for the terrorists are based off chess pieces. P = Pawn, N = kNight, B = Bishop, etc. Of course, Q1 = Queen which happens to be Kallen (the hot redhead); the most powerful piece on the board. :anime:
I love how when Viletta (that female pilot) shot at lulu, that he didn't even flinch. Thats just pure badass. :D

I've been hearing a lot about this show lately, so I tuned in tonight. I'm a little impressed by the quality of the animation and the expert dubbing, but I've become very off-put by robot anime in recent years. Since I missed the first episode I don't quite get the characters and the story, but I'll keep watching for a few more weeks before making a final decision to stick with the show for the long haul.
One thing in particular that looks promising; The pacing of the story is quite fast compared to most anime. It seemed we sped through two or three episodes' worth of plot in just 30 minutes. That says to me the time I spend watching the show will be rewarding, as opposed to Witch Hunter Robin or DBZ.

Oh my god, THIS IS NOT A CLAMP SHOW! They only did the character designs. The story and everything else is pure sunrise. (Sorry for that out burst but I've been repeating that several times.)
Also, Witch Hunter Robin (while I did like it) is one of the slowest animes ever. Code Geass is VERY much faster.

All of Britannia's best soldiers are busy elsewhere on the planet right now. The ones guarding Area 11 are on citizen suppression duty, and not necessarily that good.
Further more, it is hinted that Clovis isn't that good a commander, as such he likely gave flawed orders that Lulu could exploit. Being given command because of birthright doesn't mean you are any good at it.
(And of course, there is the fact that Lulu cheated by obtaining their communications. Britannia troops might be better trained, but their location and orders were leaked.)

Considering the Lancelot pretty much kicked him around and forced Lelouch to flee, I wouldn't call him an "expert" at piloting or anything resembling one.
As for why he does know how to use a Knightmare Frame in the first place...would be a bit of a spoiler, and a rather too early one at that.

It's going to take a few episodes for me get to used to the dub voices. If I remember correctly, Lelouch's Japanese's voice was much deeper.
Amazing how one mere Knightmare Frame is able to take out all those others without even getting a scratch.
And thanks to Suzaku deciding to save that falling woman and child, Lelouch is able to get away.
I get that Lelouch has the Geass and all, but you'd think that Clovis's place would be much more guarded.
It'll probably take a few episodes until I get into this anime. These past two episodes have been interesting, but they haven't exactly caught my eye.

ok, since this came up a few times, and I have NEVER seen the show, there seems to be a line everyone missed. When dude (suzuki or something:p ) was given the lancelot, something was mentioned about highest scores in mech training or something. So I would ASSUME that they are taught that in school (where he was just a few hours before all this happened).
I want to apologize to all those I got upset at last week for the (very) minor spoilage that Suzaku lives, since they cover that right away in this eppy. just tired of being spoiled i guess.
onto the rest of the episode, love the pacing, since you feel that alot is actually getting accomplished, unlike Bleach or DBZ (other series' that I like, btw)
The animation frame rate is absolutely marvelous, reminds me of the better animated eps of E7. Never was a big fan of recycled scenes and shortcuts used in anime. very refreshing.
Not an expert on voices, but the Ichigo-ness is still desturbing. I know alot of VA's are in alot of anime's, but I usually don't pick them up right away.
Storywise, very interesting use of cliche's, will continue to watch for more interesting stuff.

you missed nothing, its a first episode after all, so its usualy one of the least amazing episodes and everything of importance that happened is either recaped in episode 2 or shown in flashbacks later.
this applies to almost every anime.
example S-Cry-Ed, i started watching from episode 3 (on of the best episodes i think) and in one short semi-flashback everything you need to know about the frist 2 episodes were told. its when kazuma is going like "how could i have lost so easily" it quickly showed him loosing to Ryuho, and by the end of the ep you knew the whole premise of the show. I watched the first 2 episodes later on and it turned out they were beyond boring.

He's a soldier and, as a result, had training. (Plus, you know, he's just awesome :p). But Lelouch is orchestrating this battle in his own Knightmare Frame and, as a student, it seems odd at first impression that he can pilot one fairly competently. Piloting a military mech isn't exactly something you're going to find in a prep school's curriculum.

Clovis redirected much of his guard to the front lines to which Lelouch called the move extremely stupid. Lelouch was counting on Clovis to make that move based on playing him in the past and it was the real reason for the battle. The fact that the battle itself was lost wasn't that important and was mostly redirection. In chess, the only piece that really matters is the king. He used Clovis' mistake to get to place him into checkmate :)

Exactly, hence while retreating from "the white knight" Lelouch said in paraphrase:
I concede you the tactical victory however.....
Suzaku winning the battle meant nothing since he failed to protect the Leader (king).

I think that Suzaku is going to turn out to be one of those justice freaks. He was shot by the officer of a secret force. I guess you could call them spooks and so their actions don't really reflect on the Brittanians as a whole. Plus, I don't think he's at all aware of the slaughter that went on while he was asleep.
I wonder how this show's ratings are and what the general buzz among anime viewers is? I'm thankful that it is on Adult Swim and uncensored(?) but I wonder if 1am is too late of a time slot for it to be a true ratings success. I'd like to be able to watch this show without it going on hiatus :)

This dub is borderline "not worth watching". I think I'd rather wait for Bandai's sets are watch it again with real subtitles because so far the only voice I like is Llyod's. The rest range from decent, mediocre or awful. Some VAs are very ill-suited for the roles they are in and while I believe actors should be allowed to broaden their range... I want the voices to sound natural and fit the image that talking most of all. If a dub can't accomplish that then I'd rather watch the show again in Japanese. But I do want to support this awesome show so buying the sets may be the option I take... or I'll stream the rest of the episodes on AS video despite my dislike of the dub thus far.
Lelouch comes off like Light. Terminally bored and using his talent for something greater, but with a selfish goal. Only while Light had murder as a hobby in the hope of frightening humanity into peace, Lelouch is an armchair general who likes moving pieces and watching them squirm. And like Light, their calucations missed something, L and the Gundam that ripped through his pieces, respectively.

Lelouch is an armchair generalLelouch is anything but an armchair general. He leads his troops from the front many times. Its true he has always has a bodyguard protecting him, aka Kallen, but he puts himself in danger often.
Take this episode for example. He did personally help kallen out with that ambush near the train and then Kallen returned the favor.
I'll say this, light kills people without them knowing who killed them. Lelouch has no problem getting in his enemies' faces as he displays at the end of the episode by confronting Clovis personally.
Lelouch learn one lesson well this episode. That he can't rely on untrained troops to win battles.

In anime world, driver's licenses pertain to mechs, not cars.
Or close enough to an excuse anyways that I wasn't bothered that he knew how to pilot one.

Okay seriously people, you are STILL giving COde Geass spoilers in your comments (well those who saw it anyway). Seriously how come you guys keep spoiling it so much. Early episode spoiling... fever or something?

Nope. I mean it Couldn't have anything to do with that girl who gave him the mysterious powers to you know order people around just by looking at them or anything you know. (Seriously after you have someone with THAT weirdo power it's kind of hard to go around questioning they're combat skills. I don't know if that's where Lelouche got his but it's the answer I'm going with anyway).
Maybe It's just me, but in some ways Lelouche is kind of like Light. Kid gets mysterious powers and uses them to fight injustice in an at best moraly gray area of killing people and using anything he can to survive, and moving the pawns along like they were chess pieces. For Lelouche though it's more about trying to get back at Britanna for having imprisioned them and wanting to help out the rebels some I guess in his own fairly condesending way. So after getting some info on the situation, he takes command of the rebels in a pretty impressive flow of stategy that takes out all the forces around (though Crispin Freeman and Megan Hollingstead... I mean whoever those two voice in this show's characters are still around though unable to do anything. Seriously there's still too many people here for me to try and figure out all the names for). Luckily the genius Britallian Scientist has got a powerful white super armor that driven by Suzkau makes short work of the Rebels mechs and forces Lelouche to switch stragies. Now he's at the prince's hosue and is telling him they're apparently brothers or something like that. As if this show couldn't get weird enough. Still though the actual action of the suits driving around was pretty cool and I did like Lelouche's strategy so at least the fighting here is good. Maybe once I understand everything else it will be enjoyable but this still seems like one of those shows that shouldn't hit the ground running with so many characters and should dial back who gets focus and development on.

You know. I find it odd that the protaginist who is fighting the antagounist is that the antagoniust is working for the enemy. While the protaginist is working for the enemy. Wierd!

Lelouch is an armchair general who likes moving pieces and watching them squirm. And like Light, their calucations missed something, L and the Gundam that ripped through his pieces, respectively.
I don't get that impression, Beat. In the first episode, when he first played the noble in the chess game and te first piece that he moved was the king. Lelouch said something memorable about his play style when the noble scoffed at him. At the end of this episode, he chose to confront the "king"
directly. He could have just as easily used geass on one of his soldiers or had one of the Elevens do it.
