Anyone remember this show? It was a (really) short-lived series based on the Amazing Stories segment.
Someone really should put this on DVD. given the fact that Brad Bird created the character, and he has recently become famous for Incredibles, Iron Giant and Ratatouille, you think some company would release it on DVD, and put 'from the Creator of the Incredibles/etc!' on it to get sales.

I saw a few episodes of Family Dog (I guess it would have to be a few, since that was all that aired!), it was "meh", overall. The series wasn't as entertaining as the Amazing Stories episode that it was based on. Unless they could get Brad Bird to do commentary for it, I wouldn't need nor want to purchase a DVD of Family Dog.
Also, they probably wouldn't be able to say "From the director of The Incredibles and Ratatouille!" on a Family Dog DVD because both of those afformentioned features were Disney/Pixar and FD was produced by Amblin Entertainment.

Well The Critic is owned by Sony and aired on ABC and it mentions on the DVD set 'from a writer of The Simpsons!'

Attempting to link the Family Dog series to the likes of The Iron Giant and The Incredibles could possibly help sales, but it would also be setting buyers up for a letdown, IMO. The series just wasn't very good. (Again JMPO.)

It's been a few years since I saw this show, but I remember that the son of the family looked uncannily like Chucky.

Steven Spielberg and Tim Burton were executive producers on the show. They have said that the network (or was it studio  ) were a pain to deal with so hence why the show didn't end up as good as the Amazing Stories segment.

I do recall the episode that aired on AMazing Stories was pretty funny but after it became a series, it flew like "Thelma and Louise"......

Another thing that contributed to the show's downhill quality is the fact that Brad Bird was not involved in the show at all. He was busy on other things, if I recall right.

Yea, it was more of a Steven Spielberg and Tim Burton cartoon. But...like I said earlier the network was getting in the way. Thats the main reason it failed.

I just did a quick credit review of the Amazing Stories "Family Dog". I would give Brad Bird the primary credit for this production. He is credited as a character voice, director, writer, and animation producer. This is great little cartoon. The TV series (I have 2 examples).......pretty bad. No charm at all.
Enough said.

Hm. I loved the show back when it aired. I was so pissed when it got cancelled.
Of course, I was about 8 or so then, so I dont know if I'd still like it now.
