Does anyone know if any cartoons made for tv have made it to the public domain yet? All i know of is the 70s filmation show "wacky and packy". Were those three stooges cartoons made for tv or aired in theatres? If its the former than they would qualify as well.

I believe that The New 3 Stooges was originally on TV in syndication. I can remember them being shown on one of the local kid's shows in Memphis.

While WB used them, I'm pretty sure that the Max Fleischer Superman cartoons from the 1940s are public domain as well. And probably any cartoons on those dollar dvds like such as some particular Looney Tunes.

While I was researching this a few minutes ago, I came across a website that should help you.
The Public Domain Movie Database (http://%22http://pdmdb.org/content.asp?contenttype=PDMDB) has a list of movies, TV shows, film shorts, etc. that have all fallen into public domain.
I found it of use myself, and I hope it answers your question.

Yeah, 'The New 3 Stooges' I'm pretty sure are public domain while 'The Robonic Stooges' are HB's.
I'm not sure if any other syndicated shows would under public domain, at least not any of the *popular* ones.

I tried clicking on the link, but all I got was an error message.

The obscure filmation cartoon Fraidy Cat is in the public Domain (or a few episodes), I've seen some PD DVDs and Videos, I'm pretty sure I saw Crusader Rabbit on a PD video.

I have heard a lot of Filmation material did not have its copyrights registered/renewed...can anyone confirm this or provide specifics?
Rhino released a couple VHS tapes of the original Ward/Anderson Crusader Rabbit series years ago, but ran into some legal trouble because of a deal years ago which resulted in 20th Century-Fox (successor of Metromedia) owning the character (at least, I believe that's right). Not sure about the copyright status of the cartoons themselves, but those tapes were pulled. If the DVD you saw was released by East/West, I wouldn't be so sure that the material is necessarily, actually, legitimately public domain.

As I'm looking at the box of my only Crusader Rabbit VHS video, I see that I purchased it in Nov. 1993. It's a Rhino Home Video with a 1991 copyright date by Rhino Records, Inc. It is also copyrighted 1949 by Television Arts Productions, Inc.
Nothing of signifigance. Just some junk information.
