Well, the second half of the Death Note story starts today and its just as polarizing for fans. Just like the second half of Blood+. Watch tomorrow at 1:00 AM Eastern.

Interesting start for the 2nd half of the series. After Light thinks he has nobody else in his way following the death of L, Near and Mello enter the playing field. Somebody outside the task force knowing of L's death really was not something Lighy was expecting. Damn, L and Watari are crafty, even in death. I like how Near and Mello don't get along, and Mello let's his emotions interfere too much with his work.

Mello~~~~!!! <3
His voice is...alright. I'm still not too keen on it only because I don't believe it suits him as it should. Although, I think I'm going to slowly grow to love it. By the end of the episode I already began to enjoy the tone.
Near's voice is very nice. His relationship with Mello is much fun. Too bad gangsta gangsta supah fly blondie doesn't work well with friends. So impulsive.
lol Sayu hit puberty.
Mello and his leather. Gawd. So Pretty. So gay. Such a chocolate loving brat.... who's into bondage. His coat reminds me of Creed from Black Cat. I'd let him kidnap me anyday.
BGM= soooo great.
Misa. You're gross. I hope you aren't sleeping with Light.

you realy think Light couldve managed to not sleep with her these past 4 years?, i think not. Sinse Light said he loved her and wanted to be with her, liying bastard, and all that **** i dont see how he could even get away with it withought leting Misa know hes liying to her.
besides, shes hot
lol Sayu hit puberty.
hehe, it looks like Matsuda hit puberty too, about time
chief: "my little girl will never marry a cop. EVER......."
WTF! the director spilled the beans on the task force, the hell kind of cop is he.

I know he's slept with her. He has to have. She makes a hoe out of herself every episode, expecially later on.
I just hope it's not a daily 'Oh Light come into bed with me I have no cloths on!' affair. She's trashy and Light's still just using her. Mello would make a better female than she already is. He even has the looks for it.

I, so far, thought this was way too fast paced... I don't know, I just don't think this episode has had the same magic as the last few episodes. Hate to say it, but I think I miss L.

Unfourantley, Death Note Abridged not only spoiled Light and Kira being handcuffed together for me, but also the character of Mellow as well. I mean I didn't know he would be related to L, or have the rivarly with Near, but knowing that he had ties to the mafia and would be an important character (why else would he be in the intro) shouldn't of really been spoiled (that goes by people here too who last week sort of spoiled him). Still though besides the episode title itself and the idea we knew it'd be in the future, some very interesting stuff. Hearing about the Death of L, the two proteges split up to handle the Kira case in they're own ways. The younger unemotional puzzler Near forms his own American Government sponsdered task force working sepratley from "L" and the Japanese Task force and manages to deduce Kira killing the director and that the task force is housing the second L as some sort of giant cover up. Meanwhile Mellow in a much more forceful direct way of obtaining the notebook, kidnaps the director and then Sayu (finally along with Light's mom making a reappearence in the story. Only took what like 12 episodes or something) in order to make the trade. And while Papa Yagami's all emotional Light's trying to put the pieces together on who these new players as Ryuki's happy things are getting interesting again. And I'm also glad they've remained interesting and that this time skip didn't put a negative spin on the series (like when we started with Blood+'s time skip). There were also some more comedic moments (guess anything involving Misa) as well as some new fonts used reminding us that Death Note's still the same even though things have changed. Hopefully these changes will make things just as compelling as they were last time but at least we had a very nice start to the new battle with Light vs those who are trying to stop him.

How can anyone think Mello's a girl? He's too....*ahem*....um...look at his shirt. XD
"you two should start living together!" Bad idea, Sayu. One missed anniversary and well, Kira could strike.
......
Misa looks ugly.....and, so does Mello's outfit. Ugh.

This was a pleasant surprise. The plot is moving at a brisk pace without a bogus memory gambit determining where the story is going.
I really enjoy this show when Light isn't in control of the situation.

Something about Mello's voice bugs me. Meh. Near's was perfect.
Funny that Near calls Light "Second L" when he himself looks like an L redesign (plus he's considered the actual successor to L).

I've only seen about the first 16 episodes, and I have to say I like it. It's different, you know? It's one of the first animes in a while that have a decently original and sensicle plot.
For once it makes sense that everything is happening in Japan --- then again, the death note just happening to appear in JAPAN is rather weird. Maybe one day, something terrible wont happen in a specific area of japan. ;] we can hope.

Last time: It's Christmas every day for Light Yagami, and he's singing his favorite carol--"No L".
Oh jeez. I've been thinking all this time that Mello was a girl.
This show's already inaccurate. The President in the year 2012 is neither a black man, a woman nor a balding white guy.
Light's grown a little, and his head's as big as ever. ...and Misa's still a flake.

Well I mean, it's been a few years since he was in Wammy's orphanage, and considering Mello is a genius like Near and L, it makes a little sense that he'd have the ability to organize himself as the leader of a large underground gang in such a short amount of time.

Funny how my friend keeps trying to show me that video >_> guys really keep the videos out unless it already HAPPEND..
Now for the episode
I actually like this new L a lot xD instead of sweets he likes to play games and it seems we got three sides now
Team L/N
Team Mellow
And Team Kira
Matsuda having a crush on Light's sister was kind of funny since she was a little to young before the time skip.. and man lots of Misa fan service.. o_o.
And as for Mellow kidnapping Light's sister you no.. I wont be surprised if she died somehow. I always did wonder if Light's sister would ever get involved in one of his problems. Hopefully she does not die though since I think Light's family should at least live through all of this(yet I see the Chief dieing near the end of this series).
But mostly this is a very awesome start and I cant wait to see how this goes. Oh and Ryuk was laughing like a old man for the whole entire episode..
Oh and as for the my thoughts of what might happen well to begin with(please do not reply with spoiler tags or anything this is just what I think might happen): Mellow ends up getting Rem's death note and kills a lot of the main characters like Matsuda and Misa. If this happens then Light is going to be in one bad situation..
Mellow is annoying, Near is cool, interesting start to the second half.

A lot sure happened in this episode. Near and Mellow (must not follow with Y.... must... not follow..... with Ye....) Yellow take over L's position in finding Kira, but in quite different ways. Should make for some interesting moments. To top it off, Light's sister gets kidnapped, which puts him in an a situation as to if he will kill her or not in order to have the second Death Note close by.
Okay... that didn't really sound like a lot, but... it sure did felt like it.

Very good ep tonight. We get more comedy and more plot to the series along with plot twists. I really like the way ryuuk puts a different spin on things. First the whole light thinking he's god while ryuuk telling him he's one to talk and the "happy family" line and also the thinking of how things were getting more "interesting again" with the director being abducted and then later killed by light. He's worse than light in some ways.
But now sayu is being held captive and is to be used as ransom for the notebook. To top it all off light actually is thinking about killing her own sister just so that he doesn't have to give up the book. This guy just keeps getting worse. Hopefully nothing bad happens to sayu, that would fing messed up she dies.
4/5 for tonights ep.

No new names were written in it. There are three books: Ryuk's, Jealous', and now Rem's. The Japanese police have Ryuk's while Misa has Jealous', and Light probably has Rem's, so Ryuk's notebook has gone unused while Light and Misa both write in the other two books.

I kind of liked how Near and Mello seemed to be like two halves of L. Near got the sitting in weird poses and quiet-monotone-genius voice, and Mello got the competitiveness and the need to constantly eat sweets :D
I really hope Light isn't such a bastard as to kill his own sister but at this point nothing he does would surprise me. He'd probably kill her without a second thought if it suited his plans.

Actually, I believe Ryuk said he has his own notebook. He mentioned that he snuck out two notebooks from the shinigami world. So, technically, there are four notebooks in play, though Ryuk has never used his own notebook in the series, and I doubt he will ever need to. I'm not sure how he got a second one, though.
I know he's slept with her. He has to have. She makes a hoe out of herself every episode, expecially later on.

Did anyone else notice how Ryuk said "Guess I'll stay around here then." after seeing Misa in her nightgown? It implied that Ryuk likes to watch Light and Misa have sex. It must be pretty kinky to have a shinigami watch you while you're having sex.

L's emotions and bond of 'friendship' with Light played a role in leading him to his demise. As much as L didn't trust Light, he still allowed himself to feel the warmth of a relationship [platonic] which gave Light an upper hand.

ok, this week they put dates up, so it is easier to comprehend the time skip and when everything happens. Not sure about all this like and dislike of Mellow and Near, SINCE I HAVE NEVER READ/SAW the series before.
please people, contain yourselves a little.
Did like how Light has his back to the wall, this time with two protege's coming at him, and he has no clue. It seems to me Light has grudgingly given into Misa the same way a "god" would help a devoted follower. I am sure that she knows that she isn't the "light" in Light's world, but she is just pleased to be of use to him and for him to acknowlegde it. Not even going there with the whole sleeping with each other bit (if you couldn't tell by the outfit, then you need glasses worse than I do).
I also found it amusing that after portraying the "America is Bad" vibe in most anime, DN is doing a second take and not making us seem so bad (FBI gets taken out by Kira first, now Near using USA as a base of operations against Kira).
Can't wait for Light to start being smart again, as he is making dumb mistake after dumb mistake again (killing the director and considering his sister just tips off people as to where and who he is.)
now as for the rest......
Mello and his leather. Gawd. So Pretty. So gay. Such a chocolate loving brat.... who's into bondage. His coat reminds me of Creed from Black Cat. I'd let him kidnap me anyday.
Hands drool bib to Sam he was saving from a few eppys ago.....

I'll have to check the manga again when I get the chance, though that may be what's different so far.

Hmm, well, for a second half it started off quickly enough with this episode. Near looks to be a formidable replacement for L, though the orange top is lame. He says Near should replace L and that he's going to go live his own life, and apparently all he can think of is pursuing the Kira case after all except against Near. Perhaps he will be dealt with before long and then it can come down to Light vs. Near.
I don't know when it started, but this second OP is one of the worst I've ever seen. Horrible noise combined with all the freaky imagery, bleh. The first one suited the show much better.

While I find Mello intriguing and even likable I find myself gravitating toward Near more. He has a lot of L's qualities though I can't say I like his voice too well. It lacks edge and calculation and just seems too feminine. They may as well have just gave him a five year old's voice given how ill suited it already is.
As for the distasteful changes as a whole I can look over them

An interesting start to the second half.
I wonder what relation Near and the other two people he was with have to L. Why was that message sent to them? I have so many questions… but that’s what makes this show so great.
Before this episode, it seemed like Light was the bad guy with good intensions and L was the protagonist. But now Light seems cool and not all that bad anymore. After all, he is only killing criminals.
5/5
So several years later-
Misa is still a skank.
L's successor, a chocolate loving terrorist and a little kid with an affinity for toys.
The USA- when your country can't hack it.
Misa is STILL a skank.
So apparently all the years of deluding people has made Light sloppy. Now does he kill his sister or not?
Misa = skank.

I read this comment and just remembered watching this. Don't worry(no spoilers)
Oh yeah...Light said he may have to kill Sayu....if he does consider him the biggest bastard in existance. Other peeps is one thing...but flesh and blood is another.

I don’t think he will kill Syau. Since they didn’t tell the cops, if Kira kills Syau, then that narrows down the possibilities of who could be Kira down to the six men involved in the Kira investigation.

And with only 9 episodes left? I would not be surprised that this would happen.. but then again if Light does kill Syau that just makes himself evil and ruin his whole thing for justice.

So all the stuff at the end of last episode was actually before the time-skip. Okay, so it makes a bit more sense...
It's going to be hard to top the Kira-L rivalry, but at least the Near-Mello rivalry already has the hate part down.
And Misa apparently wants some lovin'. Her eyes maybe on Kira, but all the others' eyes are on her... and what little she has on.
Oh, and speaking of growing up... Sayu gets a few years closer to being legal, and the poor girl gets kidnapped. Here's a case where not being the eye candy is a detriment to a female's life.
"Abduction": 3.5/5.

Sayu's nineteen, actually.
