Shin Chan
Bader’s Henchman: I have news Lord Bader.
Ham: It’s Master.
Henchman: Lord is the correct title, Porker!
Ham: Yeah, who cares? Master Bader is funnier. Don’t you know that crap he’s wearing is a full body pleasure suit? He said if I did good, he’d hook me up with one!

Bleach
Byakuya: You wanted to know why I would allow Rukia to be executed. Criminals must be brought to justice. Once their punishment is decided, it must be carried out. That is the rule of the law.
Ichigo: You honor the law even over the life of your own sister?
Byakuya: Sympathy towards a relative. What could be more pointless?
Ichigo: How can you say that?!
Byakuya: Feelings and emotions have no value compared to the law. Luckily I’ve never been burdened by such useless sentiments. The Kuchiki clan is one of the four great noble families. We’re duty-bound to serve as examples for all Soul Reapers. How can we enforce our laws if we ourselves are not willing to obey them?
Ichigo: I’m sorry. I still can’t understand. I swear, even if I were in your position, I would fight the law! I would fight until I ended your stupid law!
Byakuya: Hm? *Now I see. I was never his true enemy. What this child was fighting against since the very beginning was the law of the Soul Society.* Ichigo Kurosaki, because of your free spirit and reckless abandon, you have broken my sword. You have my word: I will pursue Rukia no more. You have won.
Ichigo: AAAAAAHHHHHHHHH! I can just…just barely stand up. Everything’s spinning around…
CLONK!!!
Orihime: Oh, I’m sorry Ichigo! I didn’t mean to sneak up on you like that! And I’m sorry I have such a hard head! I was just trying to catch you!

Death Note
L: Everyone! The shiniga—:eek:
*L collapses and is caught by Light.*
Matsuda: Ryuzaki! What’s wrong?!
L: :eek:
Light: :evil::evil::evil::evil::evil::evil::evil::evil:
L: :yawn:
L's fans...: :crying::crying::crying::crying::crying:
...and Light's haters: :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

Cowboy Bebop
Vicious: The leadership of the Red Dragons has now changed hands. From this time forward, my power is the only power.

Next week's gonna be verrrrrrry interesting for Bleach. I think I've already got the line picked for it, and for CB's finale.

Death Note: 386,000
Bleach: 378,000

The yo-yoing continues. Interesting that DN beat out Bleach (is that the week it first moved to 1:00am?).

Interesting...they swap Bleach and Death Note's time slots, and Death Note outdoes Bleach for the 1st time. Maybe there's something about that timeslot (I think SNL ends about that time)?

I also continue to laugh at the utterly pathetic failure of AS comedy on Saturdays, despite the fact that they're promoting THAT and not the anime which is consistently outperforming it.

I guess this would be the place to ask.
Does anyone have a scene cap of the card that aired Saturday night?
The one about the dire situation of anime on AS and asking for advice about which shows to run.

The only thing apparently not sucking about not sucking Saturdays are the anime premiers.

And Death Note?! How the hell did that happen? Death Note's been anti-ratings on a level not seen since Paranoia Agent for most of its run.

You know it could be that most people didn't know about Death Note moving to the 1AM slot last week. Yeah AS adveritsed it in the "next week on Adult Swim" but otherwise they didn't and who knows how many people caught that? So they could of just tuned in at 1AM thinking they were seeing Bleach but instead caught Death Note or something. I say only look for solid prove of DN outdoing Bleach if it does it again next week when they would know surley which show airs when.

That's the same thing they did for the premiere. No ads, people assumed they'd see the exciting conclusion of Byakuga vs. Renji, then BOOM! Kid writing in notebook. TV's snapped off.

You know... Adult Swim's Saturday ratings are too erratic. It's like people just randomly turn on the channel without paying attention to whats on.

Which would mean that Death Note would have gotten a lower rating.

I would say in general Friday night and Saturday nights are the nights that people are most likely not to be home. In addition they're weak TV nights as is. So it's not like Sunday or weekdays where people are likely to be home and as a result plan their evenings around tv watching.

There's a reason broadcast networks pretty much abandon Friday night and Saturday night.

I guess people don't hate "kid writing in a notebook" as much as you love to assume. It appears that the timeslot swap helped it out. I'm guessing maybe it has to do with SNL's audience tuning in after SNL ends at 1am. Maybe that's why it's ratings have been bad all along - it's had to compete with SNL and never had a chance to build an audience. Bleach, on the other hand, has had that chance for a long time now, and now that it does have an audience it was able to maintain it's ratings even though it was put up against SNL. That's really the only explanation I can think of.

The other thing is, the people tuning in after SNL caught probably the best episode of Death Note so far (although it also probably spoiled the whole thing for them). If it wasn't so late in the series it might actually be able to go from here and build a solid audience.

SNL has never been a factor. Its median audience is in the mid 40s and its 18-34 audience is pretty weak. Maybe if it was 20 years ago we'd have a threat.

It's possible 1AM does better than 12:30AM. It depends on how late people stay out I suppose. That could be the main reason why things fluxuate so much on Saturday. There's always the dedicated few watching week in and week out but the casual audience deciding to stay in for the night can make all the difference.

I really think targeting 9-14 until 12AM or even 1AM would work better on Saturday and Friday night. The 18+ just isn't reliable for those nights and they never will be. But to start AS later on Saturday means to either move their anime to CN (which isn't likely even in these troubled times) or push the anime premieres even later into the night and I don't really want to see that happen either.

However... if they were to run Toonami until 12AM then run the ASA premieres right after, that might work. The 11PM hour is not strong enough with 18+ even when premeires are there. Likewise on Friday CN could run programing until Midnight then air Shin Chan right after. It keeps the anime unfortunately late but it'd be no worse off than it is now.

Maybe they saw the kick ass death metal opening and decided to stick around.

It'd be nice if the show aired on weekdays. Then people could catch up that way. I seem to recall that most of the anime tended to get better ratings on weekdays. But, now that anime is off of weekdays, it's pretty hard for it to develop a large audience. Not that it was ever easy for it to build an audience in the first place...

In relative or general terms? Weak ratings for NBC might be pretty good for AS.

Weak as in for-real weak. Just like how Leno and Letterman have never been much hinderance to AS. Conan is the only significant late night competitor on the big four.

Cowboy Bebop.

There aren't many anime quite like it. It's withstood the test of time, and still never gets old.

EDIT: I know that Real Folks Blues only plays after "Blue" as an error, but for some reason it does really kinda finish off the mood of things quite well.
