Is there any difference between the episode in the morning and the episode in the evening? Do they edit out stuff (like violence) in the morning episodes?

Viz only gives CN one edit as far as I know... So no there is no difference the same show that airs at 9AM encores at 10PM during Toonami.

Sheesh... Shu and Jiro are annoyingly like Naruto and Sasuke. As soon as Jiro said "revenge" I just rolled my eyes.

In any case, the rivalry is mostly on Shu's side, because Jiro is literally better than Shu is...in everything. Thing is, there is some truth to it because Jiro doesn't understand why someone who's dumber than dirt (Shu) would have the Blue Dragon as his shadow, and why Shu is even along on this quest (which is to protect the village, despite Shu only thinking he chose to go).

Anyway, I think I've figured it out. While this show will defintely have character and story devlopment, this show is nonetheless (at IMO) a partial parody of the Blue Dragon video game (I say "partial" because of the development potential). Anime Shu exibits virtually every stereotype associated with the "dumber than dirt" protagonist (including but not limited to trying to be something he's not because he's just a "scared little puppy" whose bark is worse than his bite). I will admit to never playing the game (which I never intend to), but even I can imagine that in the game Shu can control his shadow powers right from the start (once the player is given that ability, if that applies), whereas anime Shu can't control them because he actually doesn't know how which itself is because it's beyond his comprehension...along with everything else. I personally wouldn't be surprised if it took about half the series to finally learn how to use his powers properly, and the other half for him to finally "get a clue".

Anyway, don't get the wrong idea. I'm not "hating on" this show. I'm still going to watch it because of teh aforementioned development potential. I just don't like how Pierrot decided to portray Shu in this show (essentially a non-dimensional character stereotype, which admittedly, I don't think he will be for long). That's really the only problem I have with this show (referring to the show itself, and not necessarily the English translation...)

Also, I know that some statements might seem contradictory. I said that it might take Shu the entire series for him to "get it", yet I also say he won't be this way for long. The former is actually part of what I believe to be the show's ongoing gag regarding Shu's "dumber than dirt" personality (i.e., it only seems that it will take all 51 episodes for Shu to get a clue). In truth, it's more likely for the latter to happen.

Oh yeah. There IS only one edit. TOON doesn't do that anymore.

The first episode had a scene cut out during the Toonami airing that wasn't cut during the original premiere.

Meh...this was a pretty basic training episode. The battle was somewhat entertaining...but other then that, the episode felt pretty generic.

Now... why would they cut something during Toonami that was in it before? Curious... but what was cut?

- The guard attacking Kluke is changed, so we don't see the butt of the gun, connecting.

Additional Note to the Above: The scene in question above was further edited on the Toonami rebroadcast, to remove the entire scene. Thanks to Beefy to pointing it out.

Yeah.. Editing an edited scene.

It's the same promo they've been using so far. The only difference is at the end the announcer says, "check out Blue Dragon in Toonami at 10:00."

I can ho9nestly say the Minotaur is already my favorite character. He's always complaining whenever he's summoned, but the jokes he delivers are pretty funny, and he has a realistic point with all his comments.

I wonder if we'll actually see what Nene did to Jiro's village later.

Hmmm, I guess Zola's really cool scene in the last episode isn't a fluke: This anime actually DOSEN'T buy into the whole "let's give time for our opponent to charge his super attack" thing. Instead the whole exercise for training here that Jiro only gets at the end of his battle with Doisk (who with his broad shoulder pads and long hair and being the first real villian our team has to face is kind of like the Blue Dragon version of Raditz thinking about it) is that you can't power up super attacks unless you have a good opening. So he learned to fake one, get an opening on Roisk's defense and then use it to finish things off. That's actually pretty unique really. Though in truth large portions of this episode wasn't. I guess it's the whole rivarly thing in general, but really Jiro's coming off a lot like Sasuke: pushing with Jiro on everything on whose the top but retaining a cool, "holier then thou attiude; being motivated on his quest for revenge to continue training so hard; being at a higher level then our hero though no match for the main protagainst true inner power, and the like. Oh well, at least they're training scenes (well at least Shu's reason for having to carry everything, "let me guess: you meant to do that" and Shu actually steadily imporoving over the course of the ep) were pretty good. We also get more of everyone's reason for being on this quest as well as the first real battle and Shu actually being able to get his dragon out thanks to Kluke threathening him. (Really why dosen't she try frying pan the guy for ruining her meal though if she's going to get all Chi Chi when she should be getting all Bulma... okay fine I won't refrence DBZ anymore, for this review anyway). So as our heroes progress next time around looks like some more shadow battles which will hopefully lead to some more good battles and decent interactions.

I wasn't too impressed with the training exercises. I'm surprised that Zola didn't give Shu any information about how to control his shadow once it was released. I guess she didn't figure that he would actually be able to do it yet, though.

The best part of the episode was Jiro's battles with Zola and then a real enemy (sorry, forgot his name). It was nice to see once again that combatants are not going to stand idly by while their opponents power up for a super-attack. I liked the strategy in these battles.

I'm on the fence right now with this show. I like some of the action and artwork but the story is already feeling a little too familiar. I could be wrong, of course, but unless the story gets a little more interesting, I'm not sure that I will continue watching. It's not a bad show but I'm starting to feel like it's a waste of time watching it because I've seen this before.

Guys, I'll get the edit list up in a bit. I was just being a bit lazy, and forgot I had to regrab the episode.

Also, I don't look forward to giving a comparison for episode 4's episode...

I didn't know this show started airing, only caught it since I was going to catch the new season of Pokemon. So far it was an alright episode, I can see myself liking this show.
