What do you think are the best superhero (no marvel or dcau) cartoons, and what do you think are the worst? For best i'd have to go with space ghost and birdman. Yeah, they did use limited animation at times, but the cartoons still hold up today, and alex toth's designs were excellent. As for the worst, thats kind of harder. Ive heard nothing but bad things about super president, but that may just be due to the ridiculous premise. Would silverhawks and/or tigersharks count? If so, i'll go with those, they basically ripped off thundercats but with little to none of the entertainment value.

Dude, that was as much as satire as anything else. File that with Capt. Nice in the 60s, if ya will.

Best non-Marvel/DC?
That's kind of hard. From the 60's to the early 80's, action cartoons were devoid of character and/or plot development. Everything was done in a matter of minutes. Look away, and the next thing ya know, it was over.
That having been said, I will reach into the mid-70's, and the creme de la creme of the period, Tarzan, Lord of the Jungle. Filmation did a 1st class job. Disney's Legend of Tarzan, while it added Jane, also overstepped its bounds by allowing the animals to talk, something Filmation didn't do.
My top 5:
1. Tarzan ('76)
2. Thundarr the Barbarian
3. Legend of Tarzan
4. Herculoids
5. Birdman
Honorable mention: Mightor, Space Ghost, and the rest of the H-B line from 1966-68.
The worst? How about MTV's mishandling of The Maxx in 1994? It was supposed to be coupled with The Head on Oddities, but Sam Kieth held out, I suppose, and when Maxx finally debuted, it was Marvel Superheroes all over again, as they used actual scenes from the comics. And you thought MTV fumbled with Spider-Man nearly 10 years later.

Personally I wasn't too keen on Birdman. I saw it first when I got the joint dvd set with Scooby Doo, and I didn't rate it.
I haven't watched this for year but I remember enjoying Super Dave in my youth. Oh and of course there is the greatness of Earthworm Jim. Can I count those?
