This is the talkback thread for CN Upfront 2008: "Clone Wars" to Anchor Friday Action Bloc (http://news.toonzone.net/article.php?ID=22716).
Biggest "Duh!" news of the day, but CN makes it officially official with the Upfront presentation.

I didn't know there was such thing as a Bloc. :D

A new bloc huh? Ever since they moved the comedy premieres to Thursday night I figured they were considering making Friday their action premiere night.
But the only question that matters now is... what about Toonami and Saturday night?

There's three possibilities, I think:
1. Toonami's toast and everything is being moved to Fridays.
2. The above, except the Toonami name is being ported to the Friday block.
3. Toonami's going to get all the anime and this block is going to get all the NA material.
Edit: As for the actual announcement, it's not surprising, but I hope it's good. I don't like that it's writing the entire Star Wars books and comics out of continuity, though. I really enjoy that universe but it definitely looks like GL's going to wreck the Expanded Universe.

I could live with 3 but 2 would be best.
The the problem with 3 is... Naruto is the only reliable anime. But if they aren't willing to air Naruto on that new Friday bloc (for whatever reason) then they may end up keeping Toonami around as is...
But just imagine if this new block is Toonami.
07:00 - Transformers: Animated
07:30 - The Secret Saturdays
08:00 - Ben 10: Alien Force
08:30 - Batman: The Brave and the Bold
09:00 - Star Wars: The Clone Wars
09:30 - Naruto
10:00 - Naruto
10:30 - One Piece
Quite a Friday night and hopefully they still pick up Spider-Man to air on it.

Even though I am looking foward to this, I am worried about Toonami fate now. I hope option 3 is something CN considers.

We need one less Naruto episode and an episode of Moribito to tack on after One Piece and it would be set, I think. Spider-Man would be highly likely to kick off the block after Transformers needs to take a break.
So in theory Friday nights could become killer.

That's if Moribito is actually coming to Toonami.
Unless they're willing to skip some episodes they may as well keep airing two episodes of Naruto a week. Double Naruto will only last until the end of year if they keep it up. That... or we wait even longer to get through that stupid filler.

I think Naruto will probably be down to one a week before long. It's been known for a while that the dubbers are not keeping up with the double premieres. CN's going to catch up before long and we'll have to go back to one a week.
Right now, though, there's absolutely nothing to go on for acquired properties other than Clone Wars. We have to remember that Storm Hawks came as a surprise last year in itself, so there's a good chance we'll get absolutely nothing else announced, not even a reaffirming of Bakugan and Naruto.

Darn it, I wanted Spectacular Spider-Man to be announced so badly.
At this point, is there any chance in hell for that show? CN probably doesn't have it if they haven't announced it along with Brave and the Bold, and Nicktoons probably doesn't have it if they didn't announce it along with Wolverine and the X-Men. And we all know 4Kids won't give a crap about it. So what's left?
I was also hoping for something definitive on Toonami, but no go. I'm okay with either the idea of Toonami being the Friday block, OR with it being for acquisitions exclusively, but darn it, if it's the latter, they'd better be willing to front some more risky acquisitions - Time Jam, Black Cat, Aquarion, those sorts of things.

I guess Fried Dynamite must be dying. Why else would they create a new Friday Night Action block? My guess is Toonami will live on, but I wouldn't be surprised to see the other Saturday AM shows move to Toonami or Toonami move to Saturday AM all together. Blue Dragon and Bakugan are already there, and with Ben 10 Alien Force leaving to Friday night and Robotboy having a smaller season, then there are two spots open for Naruto and One Piece present.

I'm guess the Friday Action Bloc is for American action cartoons, and Toonami is anime action cartons, if it stays around.

I don't think they'll be willing to play something as violent as Naruto on Saturday mornings more than a few times a year. But reguardless of that the idea of moving Naruto and OP to Saturday morning sickens me more than the idea of moving Pokemon and Bakugan to Saturday night. But if those shows did move, one might hope they'd air earlier than 10PM.

I probably was one of the few who didn't think "Clone Wars" was going to air on Toonami. As nice it would have been to see that, I don't think it would have happened. Maybe Toonami will get the reruns for the show.

Actually, most everyone around here figured CN would find somewhere other than Toonami to air the Star Wars golden goose but a lot of us were also hoping that they'd give Toonami the opportunity but with this new block I don't think Toonami will even get the reruns (if Toonami even exists by then). But it's still a possibility the new Friday block is Toonami. That would be the best case scenario for the franchise.

Maybe, although I think CN would have said Toonami at the Upfront today instead of some "fantasy, action-adventure block on Fridays."

Yeah... That and no mention of Naruto (one of their top rated action shows) airing on this new block points things towards "not Toonami" territory. But I hope they change their mind on that with some... persuasion. This is the block Jeff Harris asked for, it's just not called Toonami.
As for Toonami itself... We can only guess what will become of it if this new block is not Toonami.
Hmm... I wonder if this new block would play Guardians of Luna or Time Jam. That would be cool. But I think it will mostly be original productions asside from Batman and Clone Wars (which are both acquisitions).

Well that's a relief, I guess. With all the rumours and speculation I wouldn't have been at all surprised if Clone Wars appeared on another animation channel.
Here's hoping Toonami isn't dead.

(*crosses fingers*) Let's hope this is true. Fried Dynamite was the worst thing CN has ever done, and if they really are going to kill it off...well, good riddance!
I guess all my angry complaint letters to CN and all the Fried Dynamite-bashing I've done on several message boards around the Web might have made an impression on CN after all...:p
Now if only they re-hired Tara Sands from the old 2005-06 Fridays to host one of these new blocks (the proposed Thursday comedy one, perhaps?), I just might actually forgive them for the suckage they've put us through this past year...

I guess it's time to pimp some schedule.
07:00 - Transformers: Animated (new) - maybe?
07:30 - Storm Hawks (new) - maybe?
08:00 - The Secret Saturdays (new)
08:30 - Ben 10: Alien Force (new)
09:00 - Star Wars: The Clone Wars (new)
09:30 - Batman: The Brave and the Bold (new)
10:00 - Samurai Jack
10:30 - Star Wars: The Clone Wars (encore) - you know they'll do it
Spider-Man can replace TF or Storm Hawks when either run out of episodes. Assuming CN picks up Spider-Man that is.
Saturday mornings get encores of Secret Saturdays and Transformers along with new Pokemon, Bakugan, Chop Socky Chooks (unless that one is only a season) and whatever else.
Saturday nights get Blue Dragon, Naruto, One Piece and Moribito... maybe. But definently Naruto.

Good news. I have some stuff to say about Toonami but I'll leave it to the Toonami forum.

Everything moves to CN since Kids WB would not be around anymore. :crying:
I wish that the new block on Fridays would bring more unusual programming and variety of toons to CN. I wonder what will happen to Toonami?

Tim the Slipperman,
How does your "Death to Fried Dynamite" signature exclude YOU from being reported?

Tim the Slipperman,
How does your "Death to Fried Dynamite" signature exclude YOU from being reported?
For one thing, it's wishing "death" upon a programming block on the channel, not any actual person involved with the block. If, say, I happened to have said "Death to Blake Michael" or something of the sort, I'd understand that being a reportable action because many would take that as a threat against an actual person, i.e. Blake. (Just using him as an example.)
Secondly, I've seen people say far worse stuff about Tara and Fridays '05-'07 on this board without getting rebuked.
If you prefer me to tone down my sig to, say, 'Get Rid of Fried Dynamite', just say the word and I'll do so. But I just want to let CN know that I'm just extremely angry with them for having done away with Tara and the previous Friday block she'd hosted, especially as they've replaced it with something far more inferior and pointless (in my opinion; DaftPunkFan nee Toon Overlord and some other people here might disagree...)
(P.S. - If you think I'm being a bit harsh on CN and Fried Dynamite here, I'd sure hate to see what you think of the things I've said about them on other boards such as the G4TV forum, Am I Annoying's Annoyatorium, etc.)

Sorry for going off topic but G4's forums are basically spammer forums. It's quite shocking seeing as how G4 is a popular network, you'd think they'd have more mods there.
Back on topic, this action block seems cool, I can't wait. Star Wars: The Clone Wars rule!
