This is the talkback thread for CN Upfront 2008: Toon and Live-Action Movies Slated for Sunday Nights (http://news.toonzone.net/article.php?ID=22726).

More Live Action? At least it's movies.

I thought the Sunday movie block was dead, but I guess it was only on hiatus for a little while. Hopefully the quality of the movies improves outside this list and isn't too heavy with the live-action.

There's plenty of cartoon movies CN could air if they chose to. I don't like the fact that they'll be mixing live action in, as well, but I think this may be a pretty nice move for the network. Keeps Sundays interesting.

*sigh* I really wish they would pick up better movies, animated and live-action. None of the movies on that list really interest me that much.

Well Monster House is pretty good IMO... but yeah.

Pretty sure we've already seen what this Sunday night movie packaging will look like. It's in some thread around here somewhere.

At least they're planning to air more movies that got a theatrical release. Lately, it seems like they've been airing nothin' but DTV crap.
They should be more like the Cartoon Theatre on CN Japan. More variety.

Didn't the US have Cartoon Theatre before the revamp? I think we got some Theatrical movies, though I'm not sure.

But yeah I hope we do get regular movie instead of DTV.

I wish that CARTOON Network would just stop with the live action movies already. What is them airing Cheaper by the Dozen supposed to prove anyway? I'm not going to get off on a rant here, but I don't see why Turner/Time Warner can't premiere the live action films on TBS and TNT and keep CN all about the animated films. If CN is going to show a movie starring Steve martin, they could at least something from when he was funny.

Not to mention most live action movies that go on CN have already been run to death on TBS.

I'm surprised they didn't mention anything about Dr. Strange, Superman Doomsday, or Justice League The New Frontier.

I'm not.

I was pretty sure they got Dr. Strange last year but now I'm starting to doubt even that.

More live action. Good God does it ever end.

You should know by now that live-action is here to stay.

Anyway, I like the idea of making Sunday nights for movies. I always thought that Sundays should be used to premiere movies, and I guess the CN schedulers agree. Otherwise, Sundays would only be known for the marathons that CN does for their shows.

As for the live-action thing, well, its here to stay. If you don't like it, don't watch when it comes on.

I don't. Most of the movies on CN I've either already seen or don't care to see, anyway. I saw Monster House. That wasn't bad.

Dear goodness do I miss those days of Cartoon Theatre. Oh well.

Aside from Monster House, none of the movies sound too interesting to me. I've seen Cheeper By the Dozen before and while it isn't that bad of a movie, it is completely weird how it would be shown on CN, especially since its been on TBS before. Now that I've finished my mini-rant, I do hope that this leads CN to air more theatrical movies in the future. I personally wouldn't mind seeing something like TMNT on CN on a Sunday night.

The obvious complaint aside, why did they have to choose the worst animated movies from the past few years? Seriously, Hoodwinked? The only worthwhile animated movie there is Monster House, and even that's a fairly boring movie. Gods forbid they ever air that mess Doogal...

Yeah, not going to be looking forward to this "new" movie block. At least it's on Sunday nights, where I can simply ignore its existence, like far too much of CN nowadays...

And we didn't even have to resort to live action. Man, I miss those days.

Monster House? Oh no! My baby niece goes crazy for that movie and she won't let anyone turn from it once it's on.

I wonder if Cartoon Network has movies other than these to show that would exactly make me want to watch Sunday Night movies. Come on, I'd like to see those animated movie on the list (never watched/never finished watching them), but I would also like to see some more successful films. And what about some Sunday movie wraparounds? :anime:

I'm going to say this until it sinks in: what part of Cartoon Network did these executive mouth-breathers not understand?

Still, at least this solves the mystery of 'Why haven't Hoodwinked and The Ant Bully aired on cable?'.

Not interested in any of the titles that they promised. They should do a Miyazaki movie marathon instead..... I've never really liked ANY movie that CN has shown though, so that streak will continue it seems.

A Miyazaki movie marathon every Sunday?

Makes no sense. He has 10 films he worked as a director on, and airing all of them back to back will be 17 hours of programming (with no commercials). That takes a away an hour from Adult Swim. With commercials, it would be 24 hours. Something like that every Sunday would be stupid.

You know, I'm a bit surprised that TMNT isn't on there. I mean, there was a press release a few weeks back that said Turner had gotten airing rights for both it and Ant Bully, but only the latter is on this.

Also, Hoodwinked? Open Season? Those are some of the worst CGI movies ever put in theaters, but at least they're not live-action. And thank god they didn't get Doogal.

I'm guessing TMNT will come later. I'm sure TBS and/or TNT want to air it first before CN can.

That and the Upfront only mentioned a couple movies.

You're going to have a rough few months. After the other movies bomb in the ratings, thats all you'll see on this block.

I don't think CN could be able to buy the rights to it from Paramount, but if they can, than yes, we'll get Transformers on CN.

Well the thing is, seeing as how CN promoted the live action film last year, don't see why not to them airing the movie itself.

I mean they showed Shia LaBeuof introduing a sneak peak of the film.
